JTIS... i found out my brother bought my sister a new laptop, and bought my mother a $1000 pair of earrings for Christmas. Now in all honesty, I don't need anything from him and I think that's great he can spend his money as such (and also that he's flying to mom's house from Sweden to be with them). But an ever so small part of me can't help but be just a tiny bit curious as to why he said he wasn't sending me a gift for Christmas because he didn't have the money. My brother and I have a great bond, so when I heard that I just went

My response to my brother: Maybe if you weren't buying insane gifts for said family members you could come visit me in NZ seeing as how we've not seen each other in...oh... 3 years!

Are you kidding? Other than abortion, there is no bigger obsession amongst the religious reich. The 2004 reelection of GWB was pretty much a referendum on gay civil rights amongst the ignorant masses in the Bible Belt. Last time I checked, there have been no efforts to demonize/persecute people who lie, back talk to their parents or wear poly/cotton blends. Again, 100% pure bulls**t.

Quote:
It's in the New Testament too. If one cares to look, for example:
Romans 1 : 27, 28
[I]Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman,
burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing
what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their
error which was due.
For one thing, this is 100% pure fiction in my opinion. Secondly, just humoring the utter inanity of this tome for a nanosecond, at face value, this could be interpreted a gazillion different ways. There are many kinds of "lust." It could be a bro-mance type of lust. Or the kind of lust associated with jealousy or envy. To me, men who are obsessed with Sunday football seem filled with a kind of "lust" for the football players (while abandoning their wives for the moment). Why is it automatically assumed that they're boning one another? And what is the biblical "natural use of the woman" anyway? Is the "natural use" of a woman purely about fornicating? What about the woman's maternal instinct? What about the feminine traits associated with an appreciation for art and culture? In the context of this chapter of the bible, it makes no sense for Paul to be going "blah blah blah blah gay sex bad blah blah blah." The chapter is about questioning faith in God and not following his word. Period. And if you read onto the rest of Chapter 1 of Romans...

Quote:
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
...he holds all kinds of other stuff in equal death-worthy regard. Yet, I don't see Christians placing referendums against tabloids, Wall Street and Mark Zuckerberg on the ballot.

Quote:
And on winning over admirers on the Ledge, at least those
who read this will know that I will tell the truth on these most
serious matters even if it hurts me here.
The "truth" here is that you really need to keep your inflammatory, hateful, sadly misinformed opinions to yourself.

Oh, BTW, Romans 2:1: "you who judge practice the same things."

Brandon, maybe he really is sending you a gift but wants it to be a complete suprise. Well, hopefully. It would feel aweful to me if my bro bragged about spending so much on other family members and then said I'd get nothing. I hope you really do get something nice from him.

BTW, I love your new sig.

Well my sister told me this info, not from my brother's mouth. He hasn't sent me a gift the last 2 years prior... and that's okay. I don't want to sound ungrateful ... I'd much rather him come visit me than send me a gift. So now his ass can't tell me he doesn't have the $$

In my humble opinion, unless you are Melania Trump, there is no reason someone should be spending $1000 on a pair of earrings. It's a sad misappropriation of money. Accordingly, I would truly believe him when he says he has no money to buy you a gift- he's probably that lacking in fiscal management skills. Don't get me wrong- nice gifts are great to give... if you can comfortably afford them. I suspect your mother could care less about the earrings; she's probably much more excited about him flying home for Christmas.

My family is entering year #4, of NO Christmas presents!

It was the best thing we ever did!!!! Just bring a dish, and a bottle of wine, and THAT'S ENOUGH!

Seriously though, not having to deal with buying all those crappy $15 gifts, that nobody wants anyway, was the best thing we ever did!

You are dead-on. My mother doesn't need anything from him and I'm certain she didn't ask for such a gift. Ahh, my sweet brother. God love 'im.

JTIS...

That I had an hour long conversation with my dad at work and it pretty much consisted of him telling me I'm fat...saying how I let myself go and what not...It all started out about how I told him a freind from hair school applied at the same 2 salons I did and got both jobs...and one i never heard back from...and he was like "is she tall? is she skinny? is she pretty?" and I was like "yea...but i cant help it that I'm short...and average looking and not skinny with big boobs" then he started rambling on about how I'm pretty much fat...and yes I know being 5'2'' and the weight that I am isnt healthy...but i seriously dont look fat at ALL!!! Sure my stomach got a little bigger and my face is a lil rounder...but its not that noticeable...and it really pissed me off...I didnt tell him tho because if I did I would have started crying...so I held it in and was quiet pretty much the whole time...We ended the conversation on a "good note" but then I started thinking about everything he said and it started eating at me inside so I called Ashley's mom(shes like my 2nd mom lol) and I vented to her and started bawling my eyes out..saying I try and loose weight but its not that easy and keeping track of what I eat isnt easy either but I try...and she said hes an asshole and I should distance myself from him a little bit and when he asks where Ive been just tell him that out last conversation made me angry and uncomfortable

So now I feel horrible about myself =(

If it's any comfort at all, they MEAN well. Really, and sometimes it can be a great motivator(which was what happened in my case). I had let myself go for years. While I'm 5"10", I'm actually pretty small boned().....really though....everyone thought for years, that I was a pretty big guy.....ANYWAY, 4+ years ago, I was up to 215, and my aunt(who pretty much says whatever is on her mind) just told me how fat I was getting, and that I really needed to do something about it.

Did it hurt my feelings? Absolutely.

But did I do something about it? Absolutely. Her telling me how fat I had gotten, WAS the motivation that I needed, to put my life back in order. SERIOUSLY. She WAS rude for saying it, but I've thanked her 100 times!!!

I lost 80 lbs, and have kept all but 10, off. But more than just the weight....really....the weight loss gave me a new lease on life!!! I had given up on life, and love....it was over for me...and now, I've seriously become the best ME that I've ever been(NO, not because of the weight, but what the weight represented to me.....just giving up, not caring what I looked like, etc....). I have a new lease on life, and life is sweet now(50 times sweeter than it was before, because I now have the gift of HOPE).

Anyway, I was only trying to impart what his statements might have been shooting for...motivation.

I'll bet that all it would take would be for you to say "Dad, kiss my a$s, this conversation is over" just one time, and he'd never bring up the subject again.

I'm really not sure what you expect from me after you quote scripture attacking my relationship as "shameful, unnatural, and debased." Reminds me of my sister-in-law, who sent me an e-mail informing that I am "what the Bible calls a sodomite" (her exact words). She and I are no longer on speaking terms, suffice it to say.

But oh, it's all said out of Christian "love," of course. Well, I'm not in need of that kind of "love," so I'm gonna give it right back to you and send you on your merry way.
iamnotafraid, you know I like you a lot. I can't sit here and read that crap though. I spent my entire secondary education at a Catholic School being taught that my sexuality and some of my feminist beliefs were wrong, sinful etc etc. For a child to be indoctrinated like that, I feel, is more sinful than anything written in the Bible.

The sole reason I won't tell my family (when I should be able to, just as my sister can say "ooh mum meet my new boyfriend, he's lovely!") is because of the things my grandma has been taught, from the Bible. If anyone turned out to be untrustworthy and told her, I'd never see her again. She'd disown me. My own Grandmother. I'm not putting myself through that. But it's not her that I blame because I know she's a loving, caring person who hates the thought of upsetting her grandchildren. I blame religion.

There should be another definition of love. "I love you but only because I want to "make you better"".

I have just the opposite issue with my brother. I've tried to make a great bond with him for years but he's vvery distant and as for giftas... forget it! Not that I need them, I;d much rather he actually bother to visit us ovet the Christmas period (unlike Sweden/NZ it doesn't involve a lot of travelling) but no - he just stays resolutely silent until he needs something... oh well.

I hope so too... and I'm also enjoying admiring the wizard's Christmas balls. Sorry.. I went for the childish gag.

Things like this always mean more. I love getting and giving gifts but yeah, I'm sure a visit would be far more appreciated.

ButterCookie, you know the feeling is mutual. And to tell you
the truth there are many things that I don't agree with the Catholic
Church about.

If I could have a phone conversation with you (I know we can't
because of the cost) I think you would at the very least understand
that my heart is not full of hate or judgement like some others seem
to think.

I can tell you that it's hard to take over and over again people putting
down Christian beliefs or groups that are called or considered right
wing etc... The original post was what I responded to. I didn't like
the way Jesus was mentioned. That is the reason I posted what I
did. Not one person jumps in on the bullying from the left.

I hope you'll still consider me a friend. And I wish the same from
the others.

One last thing, could you explain your last two sentences? I didn't
understand your exact meaning.

It's too bad that your dad is implying that only 'Tall, skinny, and pretty girls deserve jobs'! You've posted lots of pictures of your work. It's really good and that is what salons should be concerned with.

Parents should be the ones to build their child up, not tear them down. I've read many of your posts over the years. I can say that you are a very good, caring person and that your dad should be very happy to have a daughter like you!!

Don't let him get you down. You deserve better than the treatment he is giving you!
