Rock a Little and The Other Side of the Mirror were my first introduction to my favorite artist. Both albums had heavy airplay on the radio and MTV. You remember when MTV played video's or am I dating myself? It's not my favorite, but Talk to Me was the first song that launched me into my obsession. I immediately began my studies into the Art and History of Stevie Nicks and the Mac. After all these years, Moonlight(LFTM), Gold Dust Women, How Still My Love, Twisted, Storms and Sara are the songs that define her depth to me. She has revealed her soul to us time and time again through her lyrics. The purity of her words are the soundtrack to my deepest, darkest emotions. She is therapy. Ahh...just to even think of the money I wasted on my shrink, pressing play to any Stevie Nick/Fleetwood Mac album offers me more of the inner peace I constantly search for. Thanks Mama...

GOLD DUST WOMAN

It was the year 1977 and Rumours was in full flight. My older sister just graduated high school, and that album was a pivitol soundtrack of her generation. My parents were away, and she was having a big house party (the drinking age then was 18).

The standard sound system of that era was either the radio or a record player. The was a record player at the top of the stairs blaring down into the living room. I remember sitting at the bottom of the stairs, observing the party-goers, listening to the Rumours album. When I heard the eerie wails at the end of Gold Dust Woman ecohoing down the stair well, I was completely mystified. That night I became a life-long, obessive fan of Fleetwood Mac.

Default my first post!

Hi everyone...have been reading this forum for years and finally decided to join. My first song was silver springs from dance. I heard it on the radio and did not know who sang it but knew I loved it. Then finally my dad turned on the dance on mtv and said sit down and watch. All of a sudden stevie came on and sang this song...been hooked ever since. Gold Dust Woman from this show really sealed the deal.

Awesome story -- I love how specific moments can form a lifelong bond with Stevie's music! Thanks for sharing.

Rhiannon was the first but I was so young I didn't know who Stevie was. Stand Back is the first one where I connected Stevie Nicks being the same singer in Fleetwood Mac who sang Rhiannon. So both of those songs I credit for reeling me in.

Gypsy. It wasn't until years later that I found out songs I'd heard in my childhood such as Dreams and Rhiannon were Fleetwood Mac. But all I knew was that this beautiful blond woman dancing through the ages in this incredible video held me captivated. Every since that song came out I would stop and listen any time Stevie was there.

Nightbird, heard it in a convenience store when I was young and didn't know it was Stevie. Thought the song was different and wanted to hear more.

For me, it was Edge of Seventeen.
I remember in 1983 (I was 3 at the time) my mom and I went to a record store in the mall and she said she wanted to get a Stevie Nicks album and so she bought Bella Donna.I had heard her songs before that with FM but didn't realize who sang them until years later. My mom said she liked SDMHA, and later, she use to play the song Bella Donna alot.It wasn't until I first heard EoS that I got hooked.I remember the sound of the guitar keeping time and then Stevie started singing. It was as if she was saying "Well! Let ME tell YOU a story!" And she really belt it out with so much passion that I thought to myself "Man...this chick can rock!" As the years went on, my mom would pull that record out every now and then and I started to appreciate the other songs and they took on new meanings at different times in my life.

Great stories!

Gold Dust Woman, for me. 'Rock on, ancient queen' thrilled me and is my Stevie's mantra, her mission, her creative DNA, and there's none better.

I played Rumours to death when I was at high school. I had a white vinyl edition (which I still have) and you can clearly see by all the muck in the grooves which were my favourite tracks!

Trouble In Shangri-La. I bought the album based on the fact that I was really into Sheryl Crow, and had seen Stevie's name all over the liner notes for Sheryl's 'C'mon, C'mon' album. In addition, I was also aware that Stevie had also recorded 'It's Only Love' too. At this point I had no idea about her having been in Fleetwood Mac, although I knew some of their classics despite being unaware of who was in the band.

I bought the 'Trouble In Shangri-La' album, got it home, put it in the CD player and pressed play. Right from the opening bars, I knew I loved this crazy, epic, rambling song. I didn't love anything else on the CD straight away, but quickly got into it, particularly, the first four songs.

What a great idea!

Question One:

When I was about 9 or so, my mom came home with the 1988 Greatest Hits album (on tape, ). Initially, I was drawn to Christine, because her songs were catchy and upbeat. So "Little Lies" was my favorite.

When I started paying more attention to Stevie, "Rhiannon" and "Gypsy" were what captivated me.

Not a song; rather the cover of Buckingham/Nicks, which a then thirteen year old boy could really appreciate.
