Thirty Day Stevie Nicks Challenge

This has been circulating around Tumblr. Someone messaged me and asked me to post it on the Ledge, and I thought it was a good idea! Credit goes to Marissa (LikeAWillow) for writing the questions.

There are thirty questions, and I'll post one a day for the next month. Anyone who wants to participate can answer that question on that day, and the next day, we'll move on to the next question. I love Stevie related surveys but I hate reading so many answers at one time! This solves that problem, and we can also have more in-depth conversations about each question.

QUESTION #1: The song that drew you in. You always remember your first!

QUESTION #1:

“Silver Springs.” I heard it for the first time when The Dance came out when I was five years old. It changed everything for me… I was moved to tears and had no idea why. When I found out Stevie wrote all of her songs herself, I wrote my first “song” on a crappy little ukelele. That eventually morphed into poetry. I owe “Silver Springs” for many reasons, one being that it helped me discover my love for writing. That moment also confirmed that I’d be a Stevie fan for life. A close runner-up would be "Rhiannon" which had a similar affect on me.

1. "Over My Head" The song was pretty, poppy and rocky with deep female voices-Chris and Stevie.
2. Dreams- So beautiful- that vocal from a female was so awesome back then.

Question #1:

Seven Wonders.

I was a child of MTV. This song arose when I was beginning to understand what music was all about. It was the first song that stuck in my head with a visual intact. At the time, I didn't know who she (the band) was, but I knew I loved the song and that there was something about her that would draw me in later during my teen years. I always contribute this song as my first taste of Stevie, with Silver Springs being the big bite.

Oddly enough it was silver springs for me too but 25 years earlier I had heard all the songs from the first fleetwood Mac and rumours album but it was when a local radio station here in phoenix started playing the bside silver springs I was officially hooked. I kept calling the station repeatedly to play it Then tusk followed and I was really HOOKED!!!

Nice idea, daniellaaarisen! Edge of Seventeen and Rhiannon. My brother and I always used to sing along to that on the School of Rock soundtrack when we were little, hahaha. He thought the line "white-winged dove" was "one winged girl" :p. I just love the sheer power and emotion of her voice on that song, and that's what drew me in. And Rhiannon was the song that I always skipped to on my dad's copy of the 1988 greatest hits CD when I was younger (before I listened to any other Mac/Stevie material).

The song that began my obsession with FM/Stevie music was the live version of Blue Letter by Buckingham Nicks. I just love the harmonies, and "staaaaay another night!" is my all time favorite part of any song, I think.

Wow, those are my 2 songs too, also in that order! I was a freshman in college though when The Dance came out, but Silver Springs was all over the radio and I loved it! Then when I bought The Dance, I was like "Oh wow, I know a lot of these songs and I never knew who sang them." The Dance version of Rhiannon is still my very favorite version and I remember during that time I used to play it on repeat for hours because it was so fitting for my mood a lot of the time that year. Once I started listening to all the songs Stevie wrote, I couldn't believe I had finally found someone whose music spoke to me the way her's does and felt like there was someone who could understand all the same feelings I've had. I was hooked forever.

I've been working my way through on my tumblr, but good idea bringing it here, Danielle. There are a lot of great questions (thanks to Marissa).

For me, it was all Gold Dust Woman. And even now, after several hundred plays too many, that song remains Stevie's essence concentrated into 5:02.

I grew up always liking Stevie and Fleetwood Mac, but the song/performance that made me go "wow" was Silver Springs, when i saw it performed during The Dance in 1997.

Then I REALLY got hooked in when i saw Stevie live at the House of Blues in LA in 1999. It was captivating and I've been under her spell ever since.

Couldn't agree more. I think no song captures who Stevie is as an artist more than "Gold Dust Woman" does... maybe "Rhiannon."

.Gypsy. When I was a little kid I used to sneak out from my bedroom walk down the hallway and peek into the living room for the late night music videos would be showing. From the opening sequence where she spins around in the inside of the crystal ball, to the end bit where she's singing in the rain And wondering through the enchanted forest To the top of the cliff, I was just captivated even as a little kid I thought that she was just magical. I kept looking for more videos hoping the magic lady as I called her would show up, and she continued to, and never disappointed always beautiful and all flowy singing about something that you know she really feels... my heart is warmed that in the year 2011 that same visual and voice showed up about 2 weeks ago in the new video. I love "the magic lady" and always will:angel::thumbsup:

Ahhh, you guys are doing my challenge? Awesome! I haven't started it myself yet, but I felt a few weeks ago that the lack of one on Tumblr needed to be rectified :)

my experience EXACTLY! Gypsy was magic to me. I remember going with my mother to visit my father who was working out of town. We went by bus and I was wearing some radio earphones and I remember my mom kept bumping my shoulder because I could not help but sing when Gypsy came on the radio. The video remains one of my favorite all time videos.

Question #1:

Bella Donna

My 7th grade homeroom teacher brought in some of his cds to play during class. I was browsing through them and found one that said Stevie Nicks Bella Donna. Up until that point, I was unaware that Stevie had a solo career. I told my teacher that I had just recently gotten into Fleetwood Mac and he told me I could go ahead and have the cd.

It sat in my desk cabinet for a couple of months before I decided to put it in one night. From the second I heard Stevie sing the words "my bella donna," I was hooked. Roughly 9 years later and that song is still one of my all-time favorites.

Morgana 08-30-2011 10:27 PM

Definitely Rhiannon!:nod: There was something about her even back in the day, 1975, that drew you to her. All the boys wanted to date Stevie and all the girls wanted to be Stevie! The way Stevie has sung Rhiannon throughout the years has been interesting, it's like Rhiannon has grown old w/ her.

I'm a, "Rhiannon" addict.

Thanks Danielle....this is going to be fun!
