I definitely see shades of my mother in yours. My guess is she's an expert bluffer, just like mine. My mom LOVES to threaten, but when it comes to truly aggressive action (like your mother is threatening), my mom never went through with it. I doubt your mother has the energy to take her tirade to a courtroom, and I don't even know her. Even if she did, a judge would likely toss it (take this info from someone who now works in this line of business).

So here's a really personal question: is your mother an addict? Mine is a prescription drug addict these days, and I believe that's part of what fuels much of her craziness and lack of coherent memory. She was a coke (I so just typed another word... ) addict through most of my childhood. So she just graduated from one addiction to another. My Dad and I have begged her to seek counseling for so many years because of her anger & addiction issues, but that just makes her even crazier when we suggest that. My only course of action the past couple of years has been to throw up a giant and very unforgiving barricade and keep her behind it. It's not what I'd prefer, but it keeps my life peaceful.

My mom is funny this way -- she does a lot of bluffing but every once in a while, she pulls something absolutely ridiculous. For example, when I was 17, I went to Walgreens in my car before emptying the dishwasher. She had asked me to do it 5 minutes before but I decided to run to grab my prescription first. I come home to two cops parked outside my house.... she told them that I had stolen the car.

She's not addicted to a substance, no. She drinks her fair share of wine but between my two parents, she is definitely NOT the alcoholic one. She is, however, addicted to money and beauty, and I think those obsessions ruined her.

I agree with everyone else -- she probably can't do all that much in court. I just really don't want that added stress on my sister and father. I'm going to call her tomorrow and figure it out...

You are very welcome. Like others, I'm here to listen anytime and I mean it. Let's definitely make sure we can sit and talk when you are out here in a few weeks. And not just about this. You make me miss being your age!!!

In the meantime, I hope that your mom comes to her senses and just lets you be. The age that you are at you should be having the time of your life, not dealing with the remnants of your parent's own emotional baggage. Your mom just isn't in a good place and her way to cope is to try to bring you down with her. Chances are her lashing out at you has more to do with her being insanely jealous at the success you are in life at your early adult age than with any actual hardship she's having.

Anyway, like I said before chin up and just try to be the bigger person, even though she's the parent. I'm glad to hear that you have been able to process and deal with a lot of this already and you will find the means, strength and support to get past this. You know where you draw your inspiration and courage to move forward, so make sure you tap into that too!!

Congrats girl! Funny u say that you got your license cuz I just made some conditioner for my hair! 2 eggs, honey and mayo! I smell like a sammich but my hair looks great! Lol!
