Thumbs up Sws

I agree whole heartedly with your assessment. The higher tone doesn't bother me and the guitar is great..

He has a very beautiful tone when he choses to use it. And the guitars are of course sublime, as is the production. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous.

You know, that was my initial feel too. But I listened to it on a proper stereoset with a good headphone, and I was touched in a way I only experienced before with Shut Us Down. On my laptop the voice sounds like a chipmunk on marihuana, but on a good stereo I actually hear the feel of his voice and the track gets depth and emotional value. I needed two days of listening but now I agree with louie : gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous.

Hmmm. I've only been on my computer to hear it. I'll refrain from a rush to judgment. Surrounded by boxes, it's hard for me to get to a stereo right now, but I will put on my Bose headphones tonight and listen that way.

This isn't discouraging though, because I think musically (if not vocally) SWS sounds better than it did live and it was my least favorite of the songs. So, if it's the worse thing on the album, that's actually a compliment.

i guess i should refrain from commenting since i only heard it on the laptop too... but sorry - i like lindsey's current voice, not his young voice and not his voice on helium or sped up. i want his normal human voice, not changed by technology. so while i get that people who either don't know the sound of his normal voice say this is gorgeous, or that people who hear good production and understand good sound say this is nicely done and as a whole sounds good when listened to using a good stereo, i can't see any amount of great equipment will make me like his voice on this.

yes. i agree. stars was my least favorite, but this was next to last (although mostly b/c of ta-ta-tas). i liked 3 rockers and the end of time much better.

You know what was stunning? I listened to it with great equipment and I heard his own voice, not the production. He sings it with an incredible controled emotion. Ofcourse the effects are there, but his own voice comes through in a very, very pretty way. Trust me, this is a grower.

People do sing differently when recording then they do live. Most can't keep singing at a certain level night after night after night. In a very short time their voice would be shredded and would have to cancel shows. Lindsey is one of those, you can hear hints of his old self on the albums of late and especially in SWS. Yes, maybe it's him changing it in the studio... he has the technology to do so. But I don't think that's the case.

I see what you're saying, but to me it sounds like a superior version. 25% more fiber.

I think it's a better song than TPT. TPT was more of a sound piece than a composition. SWS has more to it lyrically and has a bit more variation in the guitar and melody. I don't know which I prefer (I really like TPT) but I really like both of them.

To me it's very different... the melody is much better, catchier and the chorus doesn't sound as if he all of a sudden yelling at you. Just because both songs contain nothing more than him on acoustic guitar shouldn't mean they sound alike.

i like your characterization - SWS is a song, TPT a sound piece. imo TPT should have been recorded w/o any words, just that swirling guitar. i understand the message conveyed in TPT chorus but it's grating - like he was lazy to really work it out.

SWS is a pretty little song, and would be even prettier if he left out those ta-ta-tas and sang the whole song in a gentle way, not just the most of it. for me, SWS is still number 5 out of 6 new songs we've heard (and i hope he releases IOOT soon). but i do enjoy seeing all the good press snippets and retweets free SWS download seems to be getting from various little indie sites...

I finally just listened to this all the way through. Ehh...it was alright. Not crazy about the vocal or the whispers at the end. But this is all from just one listen.

I don't think I can wait another 2 months till the album release!
