Billy was vibrant. (Go ahead and hate me, but that's how I felt at the time.) No hate. I liked Billy, too. He had sort of a goofy, kid-brother personality onstage. He was accessible (artistically) and musical. It wasn't until he did his Q&A at the Penguin that I got a little disgusted. In that Q&A, Billy was dismissive and kind of snotty to us fans. By contrast, Rick was delightful and polite in his Q&A.
This whole Fleetwood HouseBreakers Cover Band is so lame. I mean it's just lame. Cash grab, all stars, cover band central. I don't care about the mixing problems, or Stevie singing off key. This whole thing is just lame. Like bib lettuce. It just lays there and does its job.

To me, Stevie has become the dead weight in this band. Her voice is barely tolerable to me anymore. It is just a drone.
It's the weirdest thing hearing her praised for her singing today. I think either my hearing isn't good or everyone else's hearing isn't good. I posted to a private board that, back in 1982, she sounded like a bellowing steer (a good thing). Today, she sounds like a braying mule (a bad thing).
I remember how disappointed I was during the final leg of the 1990 tour and the entire 1991 solo tour that Stevie had none of her signature vibrato (which always made her sound so alluring and passionate). In 1994 on her solo tour, she got her vibrato back, and how happy I was! I had been out of the Nicks fan community for many years, but that tour pulled me back in by sending me to the classifieds of Goldmine and Rolling Stone to look for tapes.
The worst days of the 1991 tour were GOLDEN compared with the way she sounds these days—on everything except Landslide because she somehow still manages to sing Landslide beautifully.

I'll pitch in money to help you! :wavey:
I never had an ounce of animosity towards Neil Finn, until Sugar Mick arrived. Now I just can't stand the sight or sound of Finn, because of SM shoving him down my throat every chance he/she can. Not sure, but once SM is no longer posting, maybe I will start to like NF??
And SM never did answer my question about whether they are a member of fan sites for NF/CH/SE. ;)
I’m not joking. I am willing to hear a price.
It is lunacy to say Lindsey can’t harmonize. BN was literally all about the harmonizing. And I get goosebumps from harmonizing and chord changes on songs I hate. Those Finn harmonies were blah—no “spine-chilling” sounds there, a curious phrase (usually referring to horror films) which I also saw repeated on Facebook. Sugar Mouse is legion.

I've seen posts Sugar Mouse does on various news articles on the comments section. All over the place. In one "it" claimed very few fans weren't happy with the line-up changes in regards to FM fans. And all about Neil Neil Neil.

The band praised Lindsey and Stevie's harmonizing with Christine from the outset as a big virtue of hiring the two.
If you're looking for a relatively recent example, he harmonized with Stevie beautifully on "Say Goodbye":

Such incredible intensity in the way they are singing that to each other. So much power.
Sorry Stevie, pointing and squinting your eyes at Neil during "The Chain" isn't going to have the same effect.

Seriously, that was a ****ing awesome performance! I've shed tears over that one. Even more poignant now.

Seriously! People rag on SnL for being fake on stage, but there were real moments like that one, and even when they were doing it for the fans at least the lyrics always had real meaning to them. They could always draw upon that meaning to find the passion to pour into their singing.
There is no such thing as a "Neil and Stevie dynamic" and yet there she goes... desperately trying to act as if he shares even a modicum of history with her by singing at him. Pathetic. And I can understand why Neil might have a hard time singing passionately when he's performing a song that doesn't relate to him in any way.

I'm sure the long list of YouTube videos that are forthcoming from this
Nixwood Mac tour will be truly puke worthy showcasing a FAKE Neil and Stevie connection. BLAH!
Guys, I just went back to watch that awful Chain video again to contrast it (I know, masochistic)...
And they've fixed the sound! You can hear John's bass now and I think Stevie's voice a bit better (although that might be my speakers)... I guess they added overdubs or remixed, something like that, and re-uploaded? Saved over the old file?
Check it out if you're curious! The bass solo is quite audible.

Still inferior of course, but I guess they realized they needed to do something to try to make it sound better.
Definitely hearing John's bass line loud and clear. Sounds good.

Do you really think that she was trying to pretend something or to fool anyone? She had a big smile on her face for most of the song so it hardly seems realistic that she was attempting to act out some kind of on-stage drama, as she would have with Lindsey. To me, it looked a lot more like she was being playful in order to loosen up a new band member in their first public performance.
Although, when they cut to a wide shot of the band, it looks even slightly more like she's actually pointing at Christine.
Of course, people have their beliefs about what happened within Fleetwood Mac, and so there are those who will interpret anything that happens on stage as SN gloating or being otherwise terrible in some way.
For the record, I thought it was a pretty lame performance overall, with the exception of a couple of notes in Mike Campbell's guitar solo.

Maybe you should not post while you're drinking.

Huh. I wish we had the original to compare to because I don't see or hear anything different than I did the day of the performance.
she was cranking her music and the beat was loud and annoying in the next room-- like she said, it's like when a car pulls up next to you and all you hear is the thumping of the bass. So she put on more mellow pop kinda music but he told Karen to tell her to turn that down too.
Yes, he was ticked off about the cover story and yes in this band that would be enough to complain about how loud her music was.
Why is that so hard for people to comprehend??
Do they not know this band??
She was playing the music as she was getting ready (hair makeup etc) for the show. She listens to music to get herself pumped up. The reporter was allowed to be there observing. That's how a lot of interviews are done. The reporter follows the subject around as they do what they do. Then at other points they sit quietly and talk. These stories are not done in just one appointment. smh
In fact, Mick came into Stevie's dressing room to have her makeup person do his stage makeup. The reporter was in Stevie's dressing room and other than a cursory "hello" Mick did not otherwise acknowledge or talk to the reporter because he too was peeved that she was doing a cover story about HERSELF and not the band. So he was boycotting giving the reporter any usable quotes from him which would make it seem like he was supporting the cover story.
she/ her management could easily have said "this is a band tour and Stevie would prefer to promote the band" but of course did NOT. That kind of thing is why she felt she could get LB fired.
You don't know that. And that's far from the only thing in this post that's an unsubstantiated assertion. You do not know Fleetwood Mac or its members personally.
lol not that one! the one from May 2018 on Sirius, with the audio of the new band interview and then comments about the interviewer and another RS writer around it.
Why is that "lol"? Do you have a link? I don't remember seeing or hearing about this interview at all. I will do a search though, and share it if I find it.
apparently people get off being intentionally obtuse. read the damn article.
It also seems that people get off here on being generally outraged or irritated about one thing or another.
I will wrap up this post now, before I find myself doing the same thing.

The kind of stuff she's doing at 2:29-2:47, for instance, looks very much like that whole "act out the drama" bit she's always done with Lindsey.

Thanks for your diplomacy.
I want to also mention that I do not personally have any beliefs about what happened within Fleetwood Mac. I plainly do not know or pretend to know or subscribe to any one or anyone's theory nor do I have any theories of my own. I wonder and I suspect about all different ones but I have none that I am interested in defending or backing up or justifying.
The only theory I subscribe to is "I don't know." I think that engaging with this new incarnation of FM is more enjoyable that way. Then, I'm just observing, and not feeling upset about a person on the stage who I think is a villain.
Of course, that's just me and my interpretation of how to go about it. Here again, I don't know.

I think (or assume) that seconhandhandchain is certainly aware, like most of us, that Lindsey has always made a point of sprucing up live recordings in post-editing (eg The Dance), so that's not the point.
The point is that the replacement of the video was clumsy and amateur, particularly after hearing the producer rave about how much effort "the machine" made pre and post performance.
And yes, that kind of clumsy move would likely never have happened with Lindsey around. He would have thrown his guitar at the wall before he condoned that original joke of a mix.

The fact that it took them a few days to fix it makes me wonder if overdubbing was involved; they shouldn't have needed backlash to figure out the mix was crap. John's big bass solo was practically inaudible!

If I didn't know the song, I wouldn't know John's bass-line was there, or he was doing something special, save for the fact the band was actually looking over at him, and IIR (because I can't watch it again) Christine actually walked over to him. I don't recall ever seeing them do that before.

I posted this in the “after the Ellen performance, we need a reminder” thread too but it also applies to this discussion. Hard evidence that you can’t say that Christine and Stevie can’t carry a show or bring excitement like Lindsey. And it isn’t a video from the 70’s, 80s or even Dance era, it’s from her very last tour.
So like Many others have also said, you can’t even come close to getting a full idea of what this band will look/sound like from their performance on Ellen.

For me this is the exact same scenario.Except my speakers are good ones (Bose). I heard his bass line perfectly fine the day it was posted. I really enjoyed Mike Campbell's guitar playing throughout The Chain. But I'm with most of you in saying that Neil Finn doesn't work within Fleetwood Mac. I never want to see either of these videos ever again. I rewatched only after Nancy said they were remixed but I didn't really hear a difference. The Chain should be dropped from the set. It's such a slap in the face to all us fans cause not only did the Rumours 4 break the chain, they SEVERED it for life. If they think they can fire Lindsey and we are just going to roll over like dogs then they better bring forth a band that is BETTER than the one they had and frankly that is quite impossible. And Christine and Stevie should be more animated than ever before. These folks have a new band to sell and IMO it was a total flop. And I WANTED them to be good!

Well, maybe if she's doing (or trying to do) her act with Neil instead of Lindsey is because it's pretty much the same for her, because after all it's just a performance for her. Maybe not for Lindsey, but she's proving the guy in front of her doesn't matter, as long as she can do her act. Pretty cynical, and totally predictable coming from her.

“Good people take a stand” is rather sanctimonious.
I’ve held off on saying much since Lindsey’s departure, but boiling it down to ‘good’ people/‘bad’ people and making the circumstances seem so black and white is pretty simplistic.
I am really sad Lindsey has gone. I am not a fan of the new lineup, and especially not of Stevie or Mick. However, in my view there is fault on Lindsey’s side, too, and allusions to that fault filtered out in one or two articles around the time of his departure. I don’t want to be accused of defamation so I’m not going to write more than that.

I should have been clearer. I think those who believe Lindsey was wronged should not give Christine a pass while slamming Stevie and Mick. I personally don’t know if Lindsey was wronged or not so I have no opinion about Christine.
If it’s true that Lindsey was fired for no good reason, then a wrong occurred. And I should have said the good/right thing to do is to take a stand. Not wait until after the tour is over.

Christine’s nearly 2 decade exile from the world really seems to have fundamentally altered her psyche. She emerged as this seemingly meek, humble person. Whereas before she was a pretty formidable character who pitied no fools. Part of this is most certainly age... she’s on the downhill to 80 now. But I think something else was at work during her time away, too. It wasn’t just an ugly divorce, fear of flying, etc that kept her away from the world for so long. I think she may have had some sort of breakdown. Ken Caillat certainly thought she was well on that road when he wrote his book.
Whatever the case, do I think Chris could have shut down all the events of this year? Old Christine could have, yes. But the power structure in the band is so very different now... the band is clearly not a democracy anymore, nor has Mick been the boss for decades. And in the end, what Stevie wants in the 21st century, Stevie gets. It also appears Lindsey’s firing & replacement took place entirely behind Christine’s back. Could Chris have simply chosen to walk away from this ridiculous charade? Possibly- but I’m guessing she’s avoiding isolation again at all costs.
So am I giving both of the McVie’s a free pass on everything? Kinda. They are the oldest & by far the most frail members of the band. Not to mention we still don’t really know what’s going on with John’s health, and if Christine may be keeping the peace in the band simply to stand with him. We simply don’t know. What we do know is Stevie’s ax to grind with Lindsey has degraded and that Mick will do absolutely anything to keep Stevie happy, the money flowing, and the band playing. So in the end, assigning blame isn’t being emotional or vindictive, it’s simply a matter of deduction.

Christine got into a bit of trouble after ITM. She fell down the steps and hurt her back. She was allegedly drinking and taking her pain meds. She eventually got help and woke up. God bless her.

I’m sorry, but Stevie Nicks’ voice is just so monotone. She’s got no emotion, no range. I have no knock on Mike or Neil. Just doing a job. And how does one expect him to sing Lindsey’s parts in The Chain??? Of course he’s gonna try and deliver just like the album. Who really thinks he would start off doing his own version?

If she had, it no doubt would've changed the trajectory this band has been on for the past decade.

Also, she enjoys being in the band with them. It’s possible to have more than one thought at once on things like this. She can be mad at what happened and that it happened behind her back but still want to be in the band and be excited about the upcoming tour.

Agreed. She said herself she’s looking forward to touring with them, so have to assume she’s got some level of comfort as to where things are.
I couldn't even watch this sh*tshow till a few days ago. Picture me sitting on the couch clutching my inhaler before I pressed play on the remote. This performance was a real adjective test. Dull, boring, uninspired, sad, flat, listless, lifeless, anemic, lethargic. It felt so incredibly sad to me. Sad but with some other emotion I can't describe.
One of my favorite books is Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. There's a part where the narrator is listening to comments from friends about how quickly his son is growing and the passage of time---"Suddenly the feeling of the tomb comes on". This sentence is exactly how I felt watching Ellen:(

I wonder if this board could make a separate category for people to post in? How about "People who hate Fleetwood Mac?" That way, all the people who hate FM could post how much they hate FM there. And the people who like FM and their music could post here, on what is a FM fan board. Don't get me wrong, I believe in free speech, it just gets old to see posts by people who hate FM on a FM fan board. By providing a separate board for the people who hate the band, including one of the moderators, everybody would be happy.
You forgot the category for the people that hate everything. They're here too.

One thing that has not been mentioned yet is Ellen's comments. She mentioned at least 3 times "They sound so good" "Boy they really sound good" "Don't you agree, they really sounded good"
Maybe because I am trained in statement analysis but it seems Ellen is providing cover to the band as if everyone expected the band to sound bad with new members?
Lots of bands perform on Ellen. Does she say 3 times after they perform how good they sound and then ask the audience the same thing?
I am probably in the minority again but I just thought that was strange. Its just sad that the band needs a prop up from Ellen because of new members :(
That was my assessment of it as well.

For the record, I thought it was a pretty lame performance overall, with the exception of a couple of notes in Mike Campbell's guitar solo.
The mix was soo off. I thought they sounded fine aside from that. The vibe was a little tense/awkward but I attribute that to the newness/nervousness of the situation. I certainly wouldn't let this performance dissuade me from buying tickets. If you have a tv show that features musical performances than please for the love of God hire someone who can make them sound good. The real sneak peak will come this weekend with the iHeart Radio show which we know no one here is going to watch ;). We'll really get an idea of where the band is at musically now.

I will just say that the latest Rumour is that Fleetwood Mac was going to get caught up in some sort of Les Moonves type of situation and leave it at that. If that actually turned out to be the case you'd be able to hear a f*cking pin drop around here. Again we have no idea what really happened.

Oh yeah, that was one of my favorite renditions of "Gypsy" as well. Played as only Lindsey can, and Stevie sang it beautifully. This was a benefit for the Arizona Heart Institute, if I remember correctly. A passion of Stevie's Father, Jess Nicks. I'm not sure of the time period, but I want to say it was around the mid 90s(The Dance). It was special that Lindsey dedicated his time playing for Stevie, Jess, and the AHI. I wish things would have "ended" on more of this kind of note than what has transpired as of late.

Funny thing is, since I was actually in attendance for this show I have no memory of this being performed there. The year was 2000 and already long before that I was bored sheetless with the same live arrangements that I had heard a thousand times before, not just in concert but on all the bootlegs or past live videos or whatever. Even Leather and Lace was the same ole same ole. I went to this show with a friend and during most of it my friend made lamb sounds as SN sang her stuff which we could see in the faces of the people sitting around us, seemed very offensive to them. But we didn't care. It was a way to convey our boredom and make it fun for ourselves. This acoustic version of Gypsy is such a refreshing change from the band versions though.

Thanks for the clarification. I knew it was close to a time when I think Stevie and Lindsey had actually buried the hatchet with each other.
You know, that's just it. As much as we have had listen to the same songs over and over again for decades now, with virtually nothing new coming from FM, it would be nice if they could do different arrangements of those songs. That's why this version was a breath of fresh air with a splash of creativity thrown in.
