The next tour could be really boring. Mike Campbell is a great guitarist but he isn't the most dynamic of people. Lindsey owns the stage... he brings all the energy to a Fleetwood Mac show- really gives it his all.

Here we go!! the blame game is flaring up again , we do not know the facts!! i just find some of these comments laughable, get a life you cant blame the same person every single time when something goes pear shaped in this band.. If this is even true the sh$t really hit the fan this time, so obviously Christine, Mick and John agreed and had no problem firing LB..

Anyway IF TRUE, its sad to think LB will no longer be apart of FM.

honey, it's always Stevie's fault.
there's no fun for anyone on this board unless they're bitching about Stevie and all the ways she's wronged Lindsey and the band

{and you KNOW i'm all about Stevie, but if she had anything remotely to do with this, she's dead to me...coz that would be well and truly pathetic}

Heartbreakers fans are saying Mike Campbell is wasting his time with FM. Let’s be honest: John, Stevie and Christine are ghosts on stage. They don’t move. Lindsey brings all the energy on stage. Mike Campbell doesn’t sing so they will have to hire another singer. As always with Lindsey. I hope this new singer is as half as energetic as Lindsey because they will need to keep a two and a half hour show alive.

During solo shows, Stevie is able to keep the crowd enchanted by the intensity of her vocals, hand movements, moving back and forth from the microphone (sometimes tilting it) and the occasional twirl or kick, not to mention shawl antics, rocking on the tambourine, and the Gold Dust Woman bit. It may sound silly, but it works in tandem with the passion of the songs; that's the most important thing. There are ways for her to entertain.

Christine does tend to fade with her soft vocals behind the piano, though, even at the Buckingham McVie shows. The idea of some new guy dominating a good chunk of the show sickens me. Again, it's especially appalling because of the "farewell tour" aspect.

Perhaps this won't happen, though. Even if there's trouble, perhaps things will be mended. I pray that's the case.

We don't know anything right now, not really. I trust Billy Burnette about Lindsey's potential ouster, but I find this photographer guy to be a bit of a blowhard, and he's the one that's given us "details" about the alleged drama.

(IF TRUE)
I totally see why Billy leaked this information. He is scorned for not being called to fill in. He already knows the songs and has a history with the band. Mike Campbell smells of Stevie throwing her weight around. Mike is a great guitarist but is completely different than Lindsey. I just really cant get my head around this. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, the tour was ALREADY delayed because Stevie was out on the road. She extended her solo tour 3 times. Not blaming her because it allowed Lindsey and Christine to tour too. What's a few months more wait for the golden oldies show. I just wonder if they are obligated to go or face breach of contract or something. I just cant imagine replacing Lindsey because he wants to do a few solo shows. Its really insane. I would prefer they not tour at all without Lindsey. It would be a Stevie solo act with Mick on drums. How dare they treat Lindsey like this. Why not bring Sheryl Crow in to sing Lindsey's parts too. The tour can be billed "Fleetwood Mac featuring Stevie Nicks and friends"

How to sidestep a question 101:

Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie are about to release an album as a duo. It seems like it started as a Fleetwood Mac album, but you chose not to participate.
I've been on the road [solo] since last September, so I don't understand their premise. Christine was gone [from Fleetwood Mac] for 16 years and came back, did a massive tour, and then it's like, "Now I'm just gonna go back to London and sit in my castle for two years"? She wanted to keep working. I will be back with them at the end of the year for, I think, another tour. I just needed my two years off. Until then, I wish them the best in whatever they do.

Do you want to make a new record with them?
I don't think we'll do another record. If the music business were different, I might feel different. I don't think there's any reason to spend a year and an amazing amount of money on a record that, even if it has great things, isn't going to sell. What we do is go on the road, do a ton of shows and make lots of money. We have a lot of fun. Making a record isn't all that much fun.

"My solo career is truly the reason why Fleetwood Mac is still together because I get bored easily,"

and...I'm the only person allowed to have a solo career in this band, apparently.

My hope is...

1) Billy was sitting on relatively old news.
2) There were discussions about further delaying a tour and Mick tentatively entered negotiations with Mike Campbell in order to force Lindsey's hand (Mick tends to play these sort of mind games with band members).
3) Lindsey's hand had indeed been forced and he caved in (sadly for him completely shelving the release of his new album).
4) The Heartbreakers' photographer chap started blabbing via social media still believing Mike to be joining Fleetwood Mac.
5) Billy saw this and thought it fair game to also comment himself, not realising things had subsequently changed.
6) Everything is all good again and we'll start hearing concrete news about their tour plans soon- with all 5 involved.

He was fired for being a jerk at the Musicare awards!! I believe this is from a good source..

There was a big argument between SN and LB, Stevie gave Mick an ultimatum either her or Lindsey, Mick chose Stevie.. Mick is hunting for a lead vocal/ guitarist, and Mike Campbell is in..

I dont know who the insiders are but 6 or 7 have confirmed this to be true, but remained anonymous ..

The only post I'm seeing is;

Mark Campbell: Well, however it turns out, I wish the best for all parties involved. I've been wondering if someone out there was going to snap Mike up. It wouldn't surprise me at all, if someone does whether it's FM or someone else.
Hold fast mateys. All will be revealed at the proper time.

If you can be fired from Fleetwood Mac for being a jerk wouldn’t they all be fired by now? At the minimum the band would only consist of the McVie’s and they’ve both had their moments too!

No, that was the message FuzzyPlum. Right, he doesn't sound completely like he has the information, but he treats it seriously ("Well, however it turns out, I wish the best...") and the last sentence ("All will be revealed...") makes it all sound to me like "There's something going on but now we must await the proper confirmation".
Then, someone says something like "FM fans will give him a warm welcome.", and he has liked the comment.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers was the best live rock and roll band out there until Tom's untimely passing. Mike Campbell will be a shot of adrenaline for Fleetwood Mac. Like I said we might even get new music. If this is true then I am definitely intrigued to see what they bring to the table.

I think a lot of MC fans are picking up on comments made by FM fans. Those FM fans are picking up on comments made by the MC fans. All comments seem to stem from one or two people. Hence there's a bit of a feedback loop.

I read somebody suggest Lindsey tour with The Heartbreakers. That would actually make more sense. At least he can lead a band (vocally).

Because you've committed to the loony bin, like the rest of us.

But seriously, because we have invested so much personally in the band over the years, they're a part of who we are now. We think about them every day like they're somehow our family! So that's why you'll have fans who want to know everything - even the gossip - and fans who can't bear to read anything until the official word comes out. Both are perfectly acceptable.

The thoughts that goes through my mind if this is all true (and I have to admit my earlier gung-ho dismissal of it has taken a bit of a knock) are:

Would it still be Fleetwood Mac?

Yes, of course. Silly question.

Would I buy an album/and or new songs (you never know...) by a new iteration?

Yes, I've bought them all, I'm not stopping now, even if it's not up to much.

Would I go and see them live?

Almost certainly not.

I tend to think that there's truth to these rumors. We all know that Stevie and Lindsey fight (see Rolling Stone article from 2014), maybe it was just too much this time.

WHAT I AM HOPING: Mick and Stevie cool down for a few weeks and really think about what a Lindsey-less Fleetwood Mac would mean. This would be a HORRIFIC way to end, especially with all 5 still in the fold and willing to tour.

Like everyone else, this has broken my heart.

I wonder if any of them realize they dont necessarily have 3, 5, or 10 years to let the dust settle. It's not 1987 or even 2007 anymore. The sad reality is, if all of this is true I bet there will be regrets and it could be too late to ever get the train back on the rails.

I want to have faith that maybe they let things cool off, all of these alleged arrangements could be proactive in the event Lindsey refuses to sign on the line. Maybe they told him he has until a specific date to opt in or opt out or come to an agreement.

I still cant help but think of how on board Mick was with the Sheryl Crow incident on tbe BBC doc. He was still convinced it could of been an interesting chapter.

When the creativity stops and a band stops making music... almost everyone is replaceable to a certain extent. Its a sad situation for Mick or Stevie to say to the fans....we will play you the golden oldies with any guitarist. It really shows the extent they know things are over. One last tour? Oh lets just get a guitarist and do this already.
Why the fuss. Being in a band is more than just touring. Its about being a creative member.
Just imagine when Stevie kept extending her tour the band replaced her with Bekka to start their world tour.

Yeah... I did. But f****g hell I never took the idea seriously. Finn was at Micks place a couple of weeks ago. Fleetwood Mac with Mike Campbell and Neil Finn. No, No, No, No, No. Arrrrrgggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh. They're officially a joke.

I feel very sorry for Neil Finn. He is a very good songwriter. "Fall At Your Feet" is better than anything the Macsters have done since Tango. The thought that he would be forced to do karaoke to Never Going Back Again and GYOW makes me sick. Is he going to snuggle Stevie when he strums on Landslide?

All this makes me want to retch. I am beyond disgusted.

Shortly after Variety confirmed that Lindsey Buckingham had left the band, Fleetwood Mac announced plans to tour this Fall with two new members: Mike Campbell (longtime lead guitarist for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers) and Neil Finn (Crowded House frontman), will be joining the Mac for their upcoming tour with final dates being confirmed shortly.

“Fleetwood Mac has always been about an amazing collection of songs that are performed with a unique blend of talents,” Mick Fleetwood said. “We jammed with Mike and Neil and the chemistry really worked and let the band realize that this is the right combination to go forward with in Fleetwood Mac style. We know we have something new, yet it’s got the unmistakable Mac sound.”

“We are thrilled to welcome the musical talents of the caliber of Mike Campbell and Neil Finn into the Mac family. With Mike and Neil, we’ll be performing all the hits that the fans love, plus we’ll be surprising our audiences with some tracks from our historic catalogue of songs,” said the group collectively. “Fleetwood Mac has always been a creative evolution. We look forward to honoring that spirit on this upcoming tour.”

Fleetwood Mac was founded by Peter Green in 1967 and was named after Mick Fleetwood and John McVie. After Peter Green left in 1969, Fleetwood and McVie remained as original members, and the band has since featured a cast of brilliant talents. Most notably, Christine McVie joined the band in 1970, with Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joining in 1974.

The statement concludes: “Lindsey Buckingham will not be performing with the band on this tour. The band wishes Lindsey all the best.”

This Fleetwood Mac drama is driving me crazy.
One of the comments on TMZ says:

I don't think I can take "The Fleetwood Mac Grandparent Drama Tour"

I feel like it's a nightmare. Emotionally, it's a replay of 1987. (What was the name of that movie where the person kept waking up and reliving the day over and over?) Next year, we'll get a Greatest Hits CD with a couple of lame new songs on it and an orange blossom on the cover, followed by a full album produced by a heavy metal guy with a tin ear, followed by a world tour with several of the members on steroids and putting on weight. The band will go out with a slow-motion explosion and a wing nut, probably playing the second-tier stage at the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl.

Love really is dangerous!

So,
- Obviously he's been fired, he hasn't left the band.
- The statement is beyond ridiculous. Something new? Creative evolution? To honor it, we'll play... what? a couple of pre-B/N songs?. Ridiculous, and sounds sad.

The only possible positive that I can remotely think of is some kind of Finn/Christine new musical collaboration. That could actually be interesting. I don't know much about Mike Campbell. I didn't care for Freedom
much from BTM, which he co-wrote with Stevie.

The wording of

Lindsey Buckingham will not be performing with the band on this tour. The band wishes Lindsey all the best

Seems the Mike thing was to appease Stevie and get someone she would like. She always wanted to be a Heartbreaker.

And they hired this other guy Neil to sing the Lindsey parts. Lets face it. Lindsey has lost most his range. Basically they are pulling a 1987 all over again. And that was a Bigly impressive and successful tour. Only that time they had a HOT hit album to tour and back up. This time it literally is another Greatest Hits Oldies Overpriced Discont County Fair tour. :-/

I can't even say I'm disheartened or sad. It's more like a gnawing rage inside me that these people care so little for their fans, and think so little of us that they believe they can spin this in a positive light.

Quick little “what if”

What if this was. “#MeToo” phenomena related thing?

Think about it. It’s well known that Stevie blamed LB for forcing her to take her clothes off for Buckingham Nicks and that he Put Hands on her Neck in 1987. And who knows what else. I’m sure she blames him for sexually taking advantage of her or some kind of assault in 1997 after leading her on and not marrying her. And in her mind I bet she seems him trying to tell her what tense to use as being oppressive and asserting being a Man over her SOOO helpless woman-ness. I bet that Stevie, ever never able to let things go OR accept ANY blame for her poor life choices or terrible taste in men orFORGIVE the man that helped her achieve her success, who puts up with her BS year after year.....

.... I bet she pulled out that MeToo card on Mick and played it for all it’s worth “Kick out Linsdey or I’m gonnna MeToo the heck out of him and RUIN Fleetwood Mac”. I can totally see the selfish Miss Havishan princess Old Bag do it.

I don't understand the creativity part if you are adding new members and offering no new music. They should have billed those "Classic" East/West concerts as Fleetwood Mac's final shows and leave the legacy intact. I didn't care much for them bringing Hary Styles on stage with them either.
At this point I can't imagine there will be new music, nor do I care. The return of Christine should have been billed as a reunion and farewell tour, and they could all pursue solo endeavours and John McVie could rest, sail, retire or simply enjoy life.

Still in a state of shock all the rumors were true. So very sad.

Ha! High praise, indeed.

I hate to make this all about ME, ME, ME, but I guess I'll take a page out of Stevie's book and do it anyway. What really upsets me is that this more than likely has killed any chance for BuckVie part 2. I had to miss out on seeing them at the very last minute due to a family emergency. But I comforted myself with the knowledge that Lindsey and Chris were speaking so positively about the future and other projects down the line. Now that's all dashed.

Assuming this is all due to money and pettiness, do they really expect to be on their deathbeds, thinking about everything they've accomplished in life, and sit peacefully with the knowledge that the chain was purposefully and pathetically broken during what's most likely their final years together? Apparently so, and that's sad.

Breaking News: Fleetwood Mac Fires Lindsey Buckingham

Fleetwood Mac has fired Lindsey Buckingham after a disagreement over the band's upcoming tour, Rolling Stone has confirmed. The band announced Monday that Mike Campbell of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and Neil Finn of Crowded House will replace him.

RELATED

'Silver Springs': Inside Fleetwood Mac's Great Lost Breakup Anthem
News of Buckingham's departure initially broke when former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Billy Burnette shared an April 4th tweet that has since been deleted, saying: "Breaking news: Lindsey Buckingham is out but I'm not in." Rolling Stone has confirmed Buckingham's departure, though no specific tour dates have been announced.

Fleetwood Mac issued a collective statement about the news, saying: "We are thrilled to welcome the musical talents of the caliber of Mike Campbell and Neil Finn into the Mac family. With Mike and Neil, we’ll be performing all the hits that the fans love, plus we’ll be surprising our audiences with some tracks from our historic catalogue of songs. Fleetwood Mac has always been a creative evolution. We look forward to honoring that spirit on this upcoming tour."

Mick Fleetwood added, "Fleetwood Mac has always been about an amazing collection of songs that are performed with a unique blend of talents ... We jammed with Mike and Neil and the chemistry really worked and let the band realize that this is the right combination to go forward with in Fleetwood Mac style. We know we have something new, yet it’s got the unmistakable Mac sound."

Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac in 1974 along with Stevie Nicks. He wrote and sang many of their most memorable songs, including "Go Your Own Way," "Tusk" and "Second Hand News." He left in 1987 shortly before the Tango On The Night tour (where he was replaced by Billy Burnette) and rejoined in 1996 for The Dance reunion tour. He remained active on the road with them for the next two decades. They last played full sets at Classic East and Classics West in July of last year, through they did play a brief set in January at the pre-Grammy MusiCares concert in their honor. The set ended, fittingly enough, with "Go Your Own Way."

In August of last year, Mick Fleetwood spoke to Rolling Stone about the band's next tour. "I was in Italy recently and met Stevie out there," he said. "She said to me, 'Let's sit down and really listen to some stuff that sort of almost got forgotten.' So I know she's already thinking she wants to do some things we haven't done in years. I always think that Stevie and Lindsey should do a Buckingham Nicks song in the set. And have Christine do a blues song. I hope it certainly won't be the same show as we did before. We always played nearly three hours, and we cut it back a little bit for the wear and tear, but we do over two hours. And when you got three singers, which is, like, three bands, really, to get that perfect set, it's a trip."

Chiffonhead though I am, I totally get where Lindsey is coming from. Stevie bleated on for years about wanting Christine back, then Christine came back and Stevie still wouldn't work with them - instead insisting on promoting and touring a (pointless) album of reworked old demo's. Lindsey, by the sound of things, was totally down with doing NEW music with all 5 members, but Stevie wouldn't. And I guess Mick being Mick knows that the money is in touring and nostalgia so he'll go with that.

When I saw the news, I just thought "oh brother, this again!". They really need to call it a day. But soldier on they will insist on.

I'm intrigued to see if they pull some unusual setlist material out of the bag.

It's a little sad to see so many people having complete meldowns and throwing out their collections, selling their CD's etc. The music will never be gone and whatever line up changes happen, nobody can ever damage that legacy. There are people who thought Fleetwood Mac died in 1975, remember. And then again in 1987. But here we all are, still talking about them and still listening to those timeless songs.

I don't understand the creativity part if you are adding new members and offering no new music.

They're banking on none of us questioning this or any of their other faulty logic. Just show up, money in hand, ready to part with every last dime! That's all they want at this point.

I go along with the gnawing rage. But I also do feel very disheartened and very, very sad.

Give me a week or two and I reckon I'll move on from rage and start feeling the sadness. Sigh. This band has broken my heart too many times.

I doubt he will complain. With the $$$$$$$ he’s about to make touring with them. Even if it’s only a small percentage of what LB would have been paid I bet it’s a ton more than what Crowded House ended up making in their final concerts. He’s graduating from a county Fair to.... county fair in arenas. Haha

Fair enough. But I wonder if he'll think it's worth it in the end if things turn sour on the road. These are not easy people he's decided to team up with.

Two words: Stevie Nicks

She killed Fleetwood Mac. She refused to participate in recording ONE LAST great album with these 5 members. Then she pushed out and brought in one of her favorite guitarists to do the final tour with.

Its so wrong

Just a theory, but I don't think Stevie can really write songs anymore without help. I mean, her last new material was on In Your Dreams but take away the songs that were reworked old demo's, EVERYTHING that was new was a co-write. Meaning the last thing she actually wrote new was for Say You Will in 2002, over a decade ago. Dave Stewart made IYD happen and 24KG was all old songs.

Whereas Lindsey's creativity seems to be steadier. Perhaps not as prolific as Stevie's was back in the day, but consistent enough to release solid material every few years.

Bring on the Lindsey solo albums. I am mad that he has wasted the better part of the last 7 years since SWS in 2011. At least we got Buckingham/McVie in that time, but most of the rest of it seemed to be punctuated simply by Lindsey in the press saying he hoped they could do an album. All that lost time for diddly squat.

Please, please, please Lindsey! Make up for lost time!

I am really disappointed in Christine. Since she rejoined the band, it seemed that her chemistry with the band was primarily chemistry with Lindsey. The BuckVie album and tour proved that, in my opinion. Why would she even want to stay in a version of Fleetwood Mac that doesn't include Lindsey? She doesn't have a musical history with either of the new guys, does she (the way Stevie does)?

The only good thing that could come of this is if Christine thinks it over and leaves the band too, and joins Lindsey for another BuckVie album and tour.

As much as I love Christine, I will not buy a ticket to see this new Fleetwood Mac configuration.

This is my secret hope. If she follows him out the door, they can make more music together (what a novel concept, making music!) And this time, it doesn't have to start from a failed attempt to rally the troops. It can be theirs from the ground up. I wouldn't even want Mick and John involved with it. Completely separate from Fleetwood Mac, and let BuckVie truly be it's own thing.

It probably won't happen, but I'll let the dream be my coping mechanism for now.

I wasn't a fan 1987 when Lindsey left and they brought in Billy and Rick (I was three years old). I wasn't aware of the band in 1994 when Dave and Bekka joined the fold. My problem is that as a band, Fleetwood Mac still had plenty of time to put out new material regardless of who was in the band. Time is limited now and adding two new people to the fold is just outrageous to me.

I'm not naive to think that bringing back Billy, Rick, Bekka, Dave Weston or any of the other former members is going to bring in huge money with a new album and tour. I feel, as a die hard and dedicated fan that adding new members at this point in the band is just wrong.

I can't put into the words how sad and devastated I am. Fleetwood Mac has been a major part of my life for the past 20 years. Without the band, I wouldn't be who I am today. I probably shouldn't feel this way but I do.

Some parting thoughts from me. I actually didn't listen to Fleetwood Mac much at all between 1987 and 1997. It was just too painful. Sadly, it is 1987 all over again and this band doesn't have another decade to heal the wounds this time. I will still pull out Fleetwood Mac, Rumours and Tusk from time to time but it is going to be a long time before I do so. I will not be checking out the new lineup when the live videos start showing up on YouTube. I have great respect for Mike Campbell and Neil Finn as musicians but they will never be in my Fleetwood Mac. As for Mick, John, Christine, and Stevie. We're done. Have fun counting your money. You have taken a lot of enjoyment out of your music for me with this decision.

IMHO mike Campbell would be a great addition, but neil finn !?!?!?!?!

I don't like the way it has reached this point

But remember Fleetwood Mac was around before Stevie and LB

What i do hope for in this new line up is

New Songs
Older material ( 60's)

So i will see what set list they come up with.
If there are several different songs, then yes i would buy a ticket

This definitely does not end my hope for a new album. That already happened when it became apparent Stevie is never going to agree to record with the band again. The things you cite as positive developments I see the opposite way. the EP and BM albums happened because Stevie wouldn't allow them to be a full album and a FM album, respectively. Of course, it is still Fleetwood Mac. But we're not obliged to like every Fleetwood Mac that could ever exist. Maybe contractual obligations have forced four, or maybe eight hands here. If Fleetwood Mac#14 were to record something I shall buy it and I might even like it. But to think that a reasonable accommodation could not be made with Lindsey when there were ample opportunities for new music with him on board is going to be hard to understand.

Lol the drama on this board is ridiculous. None of us actually know what went down in reality, we’re all just speculating. And considering Stevie still wanted Lindsey in the band after he chased her up and down the street and slapped her across a car hood, then I’m sure whatever caused this has got to be more than some insignificant perceived slight or mild argument. He clearly did or said something bad enough to make the other 4 members of his band want to tour without him. They’ve toured without him before, just like they’ve toured without Stevie and without Chris. The band existed before 3/5 of the Rumours era line up and will exist without them as well. It’s not going to affect ticket sales with casual fans, 80% of them only come to hear Stevie sing Dreams & Landslide anyway and they couldn’t care less who plays the instruments behind her.
So ridiculous to see grown adults talking about how they’re throwing away their favorite band’s CDs and insulting their members before even knowing the real story. It’s a band. Grow up.

They've been holding him back creatively for years.

Not being able to call BuckVie a "Fleetwood Mac" record probably pissed him off, with Stevie seemingly holding the cards to the name.

And then Mick probably pushed this massive money grabbing tour on them. If Lindsey is taking a stand against that, and he wanted to do a proper album, good for him. He's right.

Very interesting to see what demand is like for the tickets now. I only went to see them because Christine had come back and it was the 5. I wouldn't go if Lindsey wasn't there - he's so integral.

It's such a shame they can't all agree in their last years on this planet. We've missed out on so much potential music because of it. But then, that's always been the Fleetwood Mac way...

So many bad decisions, missed opportunities, so little new product over all those years...

What a farce. And the worst thing is that it's not even that surprising really. This band was never going to hold hands and stroll off into a golden sunset, with all the drama left behind. It wouldn't even surprise me that much if Stevie rediscovers her creative muse, and we suddenly get a new 'official' Fleetwood Mac album (as opposed to the real one we got last year).

But, to coin a phrase, that's all for me. I like Crowded House a bit, but Neil Finn singing Lindsey's songs? I feel sorry for him.

What a waste of all that energy we invested in the band, checking The Ledge for news, hoping for new music or a tour from the 5. I wonder if they will know how we feel about this? Will they even care?

By this line of reasoning we should have never liked this band to begin with, they've all had very dark spots in their lives especially Lindsey.
Or I should't like any movie by Woody Allen, Roman Polanski, Clint Eastwood, William Friedkin and others but I do.

It's abundantly clear they know and don't care, otherwise they would have found a way to keep Lindsey in the fold. They are expecting the casual fan to lap it up and buy their tickets, and I bet for better or worse they will.

By this line of reasoning we should have never liked this band to begin with, they've all had very dark sot in their lives especially Lindsey.
Or I should't like any movie by Woody Allen, Clint Eastwood, William Friedkin and others but I do.
I shouldn't love authors like Gabriele D'Annunzio, Jean Paul Sartre or Georges Simenon but they're among my favourite authors.
You don't have to love or even agree with the author to like the opera.

Nah, this is different. Of course, none of them have ever been the nicest of characters but we never witnessed that first hand. It was always inferred through what other people said. To watch this all unfold is different- it really has hit home for me. I now truly resent them. If they did make any new music that would probably be even more hurtful than anything knowing what Lindsey has endured over the past five years.

I'm not saying that, my point is that I don't think this formation should be ruled out a priori without even giving it a try first. How can you already say you won't like it?

We have been through all of this before in 1987. After Behind the Mask it became abundantly clear that it was Lindsey and no one else who was responsible for the sound that brought the Mac commercial success. Burnette and Vito were good musicians, but they did not have Lindsey's vision. Crowded House does not sound like Rumours era Fleetwood Mac, and neither do the Heartbreakers.

While the common assumption of the end game makes sense and is quite believable the part that just doesn’t sit well is that Chris is still on board. I just don’t see a scenario where she is ok with this.

This leads me to believe that LB ppd his album tour as a way to double down on a new album. Offered everything he had in any combination. His enjoyment from BuckVie convinced him a full band album was needed for the band to be of value to him. He doubled down and said he wouldn’t tour again without an album, he stood his ground and left Mick with no choice. He said we are moving on with the tour with no album, if you can’t do that we’ll replace you. I can’t think of any other situation that Chris would’ve stayed for. Nothing else makes sense when considering the Chris factor.

This discussion is getting beyond a joke now.

AT the end of the day, LB has been fired/walked away.

We do not know the real reasons.

LB is not the only member of Fleetwood Mac

Fleetwood Mac were around before and as long as MF & JM decide to carry on.
FM has been through numerous line up changes and im sure they will survive

Just as they did when peter green, danny kirwin, bob welsh, christine et all left.

Whilst i may not agree with this, bands do change

Well, this is a bit dramatic.
We haven't actually witness anything firsthand, it's all due to the perceived closeness given by the social media while in truth everything it's much more secondarily inferred than it's ever been, and we'll never know what truly happened until maybe someone in the band's circle decides to write a tell-all many years from now.
I highly doubt "what Lindsey has endured over the past five years" is really worse than anything that happened in the band's past.

As for the posters above who have been mocking my decision to ditch my Fleetwood Mac CD's, it's precisely because I am an adult and I can make my own decisions on what music I want to listen to and can ditch a band that doesn't care about its fans. It's the chiffon contingent who need to cling to their twirling, shawl-draped icon whatever happens.

Ok....I'm officially shocked. What a disappointment. It's a shame, really.

Exactly why it happened, and all the details of what occured, we will probably never know. But I'm pretty sure that before this decision was made Mick had ALL of the other members agreement. To solely blame Stevie for this unfortunate event is ludicrous.

I plan to still see them, for what it's worth.

Maybe he wanted a bigger cut of the take for this tour and they said no. Maybe he wanted them, as someone here suggested, to have the band create an album around his latest solo efforts and they said no. Whatever. I am actually curious to see where things go now with FM. Maybe we WILL get a new album after all. This breathes new life into the band, IMO.

To be fair, reading through all the comments on this thread as well as social media and news comment boards there seem to be a lot of Stevie Nicks fans that are really, really p!ssed off at the moment. Probably unfair to lump all 'chiffon contingent' in together.

Why saying he wouldn't tour without an album at this point when he knows there's very little chance and on top of that he's also occupied with his solo career at the moment?
My guess is that he's taking his time off like Stevie did before him but in his case they didn't want to postpone the tour and couldn't say that "this was never meant to be a FM tour" and decided to formally fire him, while they'll eventually reunite and this formation is a temporary solution to fill the void.

While I agree wholeheartedly that this is really really wrong on a couple levels, how am I the only one so far who is kind of excited about this? Remember M Campbell and all of the heartbreakers ate huge fans of the pre BN era of Fleetwood Mac. As a huge fan of both Fleetwood mac and the heartbreakers I am really looking forward to seeing this line up. Plus now Lindsey will release his solo album and be touring behind it at the same time. It’s a win win. Where are all the real “Fleetwood Mac” fans out there who aren’t just rumours 5 fans?

Honestly I feel stevie should be the one out of the band and touring with mike Campbell and this neil dude in a Tom Petty tribute band but this works too. Lindsey gets to be creative and we will get a VERY different Fleetwood Mac tour this year.

Well, I'll be at a show this go round. The silver lining here is more Christine songs. I can't imagine there will be many 'Neil Finn sings Lindsey songs' moments. GYOW and MM or SHN are definitely getting played, but can they expect someone to want to take on ISA? That would ring pretty damn hollow to me. I hope that Christine has a good enough voice for the tour to pull off some more songs. I'll always be a Stevie fan. If this ouster falls on her and Mick, that's crappy, but the show goes on. The music is what matters most to me and I'll take what I can get. Again, who's to say another album from the 5 of them would've been worth it? Even Frankentstein-ing BuckVie and 24K wasn't entirely satisfying. Lindsey is now free to make all the solo material he wants...and I guess that's a good thing for the people that want that.

I am a real Fleetwood Mac fan. The Bob Welch era is just as good as the Rumours line up. The Mac treated Bob horrible in his last years too. It makes me mad too.
I am against a Stevie controlled Mac tour with bringing her solo favorites.

Stevie refuses to record with Fleetwood mac but she does not get fired. The double standard is pretty obscene.

How sad and shameful. You’d think a group of folks in their 60’s and 70’s could get it together enough to either grit their teeth and get through a tour or make a collective decision to call it a day. Either action would have shown respect for their fans.

This doesn’t surprise me though because FM hasn’t been a band for 30+ years.

I could maybe buy the argument that FM has always had done different iterations etc., but this isn’t a case of the band wanted to take a different musical turn, it’s simply they grabbed two musicians who were available so they could make some coins.

I don’t know why anyone would spend their money on this farce. It just gives positive reinforcement to bulls@it behavior.

This man we all adore created the sound of Fleetwood Mac he is the architect of the whole sonic landscape that makes up the hits that they want to keep singing. I'm a huge Neil Finn and Mike Campbell fan but I just cant stomach this. He is also the musical director of the band, i'm imaging Neale and Brett go with him?

For those of you who don't see this being Stevie's fault get a grip, it's 80% her fault and so transparent in the fact with Mike Campbell being the replacement.

Mick can quite rightly go **** himself, Lindsey has kept this band relevant for close to 20 years. They would be playing on his goddamn roof top if it wasn't for Lindsey.

All Lindsey wanted was what we wanted. NEW MUSIC! Stevie gets to holdback this band any time she wants. Lindsey asks and he is fired!!! FIRED!!!!

So is this beef between Lindsey and Mick? Mick has dollar signs in his eyes? Really, Mick should not be making the decisions for this band. He has the least amount of clout besides John. So the relationship that Christine and Lindsey had is just in the dumps? She couldn't stand up for him and say no tour without Lindsey? Why wouldn't Stevie stand up and say the same thing? At this point they are just too old to be adding other people. I love love Mike Campbell and would go see them just for him. As far this this other guy singing Lindsey's songs? Just plain weird. Hello all---

Wow. I'm not sure how this is a win for fans of any of the three performers/bands involved. Maybe it is...?

I'm trying to wrap my head around why this is a good thing for Neil Finn. Maybe they agreed to let him sell his solo and side projects in the merch booth? He just released a very good, if somber, solo album last year, and he reportedly has a duo album with his son Liam already in the can. Even if Mick played on some of his unreleased material a year or two ago and they bonded, I just don't see this working out. Presumably, it's a short-term thing...?

For what it's worth, I think Neil and Christine would work REALLY well together. Neil is a very underrated guitarist (though he's no Lindsey, but then who is?), and he's a talented keyboardist, too. His voice is still quite good, but his true talent is songwriting. He is an exceptional writer. I'm not sure how that helps anyone involved, though.

Mike Campbell makes a little more sense due to the overlapping relationships and the fact that he and his former band were quite influenced by Peter Green and FM.

Mike joining FM works well. He can handle the extended jams and bluesy bits. I assume Neil is being brought in mainly for male backing vocals.

Please, please, please Mike. Don't make Neil sing Lindsey songs. That would be sad on both sides of the fence. Now, I could totally hear Neil dueting with Christine on "World Turning" or leading "Oh Well," which might actually be a little fun to hear. But please, no "Go Your Own Way."

From Neil's Twitter feed:

Snow warnings for parts of the country, the mystery of Stonehenge solved and yes I’ve joined Fleetwood Mac

["The country" being the north island of New Zealand in the summertime, of course.]

Okay, that's clever. For those who don't recognize Neil's name, FM is getting a super-talented guy---but also very different from LB---who also happens to be a smart, easy-going fellow with a sense of humor.

They should pack it in. I can't imagine the tickets will sell anywhere close to the same levels as before. When LB left in 1987, at least Stevie was still near the peak of her fame and they had a hit album to promote when they hit the road. I had to give away my ticket for that tour because I discovered my SAT was first thing the next morning. But I still bought one.

But what's the draw now? It seems like they've really milked the market with two back-to-back tours from 2013 to 2015 and then Stevie solo from 2016 to 2017. The Christine-is-back factor is no longer fresh.

Unless they are completely contractually bound to go through with this, it just seems kind of pointless. What's the real future with this lineup? I'm sure Crowded House has lots of nice material and is better known overseas, but for most of us in the U.S. that can even remember, it was essentially a two-hit wonder in '86-'87.

I think they should just stay home and send out holograms of themselves from 1977. Sheryl Crow can open.

If I remember Mick's book in the late 80's correctly, he made it explicitly clear that Lindsey was fired, because Lindsey seemed to want to give the impression he left on his own accord, so Mick contradicted him. I may be wrong, but that's the impression I have had all these years.

Imagine the new vistas that can open for Fleetwood Mac now that Lindsey is gone. They can play When I See You Again, with gurgling! The sixteen minute version of Sara! An 8 minute rendition of Rhiannon with the icon on the piano going plonk-plonk-plonk! Gypsy also on the piano! Landslide dedicated to everybody on earth except him! No Questions Asked! Gold Dust Woman with 20 minutes of dancing! I am enjoying this tour already.

And Neil Finn is going in for this?!

One of the comments on TMZ says:

I don't think I can take "The Fleetwood Mac Grandparent Drama Tour"

Emotionally, it's a replay of 1987. (What was the name of that movie where the person kept waking up and reliving the day over and over?) Next year, we'll get a Greatest Hits CD with a couple of lame new songs on it and an orange blossom on the cover, followed by a full album produced by a heavy metal guy with a tin ear, followed by a world tour with several of the members on steroids and putting on weight. The band will go out with a slow-motion explosion and a wing nut, probably playing the second-tier stage at the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl.

Love really is dangerous!

THIS IS THE FUNNIEST SH*T I'VE READ IN THIS ENTIRE THREAD!:laugh::laugh:

Personally I know I wont like it because I just don't like them anymore. You just have to treat people better than that. Lindsey deserved better. Its hard to like music by people that just aren't very nice.

Exactly! If Lindsey has left on his own terms, like in 1987, I'll be fine with it. But what they did to him (alll of them) is disgusting.

And it's more disgusting that they want us to believe the story that he left.

Oh, I wouldn't be surprised either. She didn't want to work with Lindsey. Period.

I'm DISGUSTED by all four of them, but Stevie and Mick in particular. They're all greedy old douches.

Not to mention the opportunity she now has to talk for half an hour to sing a three minute song and do a costume change every five minutes without anyone to challenge her.

She can't tell a story without naming Lindsey. He was part of her life for the past 53 years. So, I don't know how she's gonna do it now.

Lindsey: I want to push the start of the tour back a bit so I've got time to promote my solo album.
Mick: No, you cant do that. We gotta tour.
Lindsey: But we waited and waited for Stevie to make an album when we were ready to go and do Fleetwood Mac stuff.
Mick: No, you cant. We gotta tour.
Lindsey: But we waited for Stevie when she went on tour.
Mick: We gotta tour.
Lindsey: But we waited on Stevie when she kept extending her tour.
Stevie: I can't stand him. Mick, its either Lindsey or me. You choose.
Mick: Lindsey, your fired.

Yeah, pretty much. :D

And we have a winner for the biggest moron here. “Grasp the context of what is going on”? A bunch of old aged white dudes and getting wound up and abusive at a woman who is almost 70 because someone was fired from a band. Sands of Tiem are certainly running out for you my friend. Now go sink another beer and scratch the Stevie tracks off your vinyl.

Seriously though I don't know how much Chris was involved in this. After Buckingham revived her musical chops she now cuts him dead like this? I may be wrong, but I have always suspected that the country English lady facade concealed something more steely. Sad to say Welch was probably more right about her than we wanted to think.

Sadly I am beginning to suspect the story about the band being unable to work around Lindsey's solo album is just that, a cover story, and the real reason is something so petty and childish that it would embarrass everybody if it ever leaked

Stevie: Mick, Lindsey told Lily to p!ss off. I didn't like his tone. Get rid of him.

Mick: Lindsey, you're fired.

:lol::lol::lol::lol:
seriously. they are so childish. you know petty sh!t is why this happened.

I am primarily a Stevie fan and I am absolutely not excited. In fact, I am outraged and disgusted. The magic of Fleetwood Mac is GONE without all 5 members of the Rumours lineup present. I waited years for Christine to return, and now this. I'm sorry to say, but the remaining 4 have made a HUGE mistake by agreeing to tour WITHOUT Buckingham! Do they need to be reminded of the blandness and mediocrity of Burnett/Vito/Bramlett/Mason? That's exactly what this will be. No one can effectively replace Buckingham in this band.

I'm afraid that I agree. As my favorite member, I've done my best to forgive her keeping Bob out of the hof. This is too much though. I'm over them all!

As another post said, screw it! Why don't we just go ahead and add Sheryl Crow and Vanessa Carlton to the lineup? We can sit in the audience and wonder why the hell we came. For that matter, let's call Billy Burnett while we're at it. Since we've paving the road to d-list hell, why not go for the full effect!

Screw the four of them. That they'd do this at this stage of the game is beyond reproach. They're going to go out on a Farewell Tour with two new guitar players to replace the one member of the band who gave life to their live shows for decades. Give me a f***ing break. And to boot, they plan to play their hits and some old forgotten tunes? OHHHHHH Mike Campbell is going to play Oh Well. Well then that makes it an obvious choice.

They're only going to do live shows, no new music. Well, Lindsey is the live Fleetwood Mac show. He has been for 20 years. It's appalling that they'd even consider going on AT THIS POINT without him. It's not the same as Peter leaving, it's not the same as Bob leaving, and it's not the same as Lindsey leaving in 1987. They've spent the last 22 years selling Fleetwood Mac as the Rumours 5.

Stevie finally got what she wanted. Recognition that she IS Fleetwood Mac. Now she can bloviate about her f***ing stupid songs and her dumba** shawls endlessly without anyone there to reign her in. She can bring back Stand Back and any other of her solo work without challenge.

Mick as per usual whores himself out for the biggest buck (though I suspect this backfires there ultimately). And the McVie's...wow. Christine comes back to do one tour where it was clear her voice and playing weren't what they once were, record an album with Lindsey, does that tour, and now do a farewell band tour with hired hands? Good job Chris. Well played. They're basically Journey now...a cover band.

Casual fans should probably hold off on buying tickets long after this tour is announced. There is alot of backlash all over social media and most if not all in support of Lindsey. I wouldn't even be surprised if this thing ends up getting canceled. If it moves forward, even after the public and die-hard fans not warming to the new members and the firing of Lindsey I'd expect they will follow the 87-90 route and add an opening act and reduce ticket prices significantly if they seriously plan to sell out arenas without all 5 of the Rumours era band.

I think most of us are still in a state of shock, but this band was never short on drama. Will be interesting how this all plays out this year. For now I am just disgusted and not thinking to clearly. Hope I wake up tomorrow and this was all a nightmare.

They should have returned with Jeremy Spencer who remains at peak prodigiousness and artistry.

Unlike most on here, I actually would have been excited by Chris Isaak whose albums are, I think, the most beautifully produced American albums.

And, yes, Harry Styles would have been so wild and crazy a notion that I would have checked it out just for the Harold & Maude factor (also he has quasi come out as bisexual so...)

But these two are not an appealing pair.

They bring no drama, history or sex appeal.

PS - Lindsey needs to release his album yesterday

Mick is under the assumption they still have fans left to listen.
