You're right.I think Bucky's "whole new chapter" speech is a bunch of caca. What new chapter? They are wrapping things up now and I don''t think they have the energy or desire to break a newbie in at this point.I know I sure wouldn't.And I don't think anyone would be particularly interested in joining their band just b/c everyone knows their time is limited and that Stevie is a REAL tough act to follow IMO.

i don't know that they initially planned to wrap things up.... LB certainly seems to have more energy than people half his age, and Christine doesn't seem that far behind. but i think if they want to stay in their rumours 5 incarnation they are forced to wrap up since SN is not willing to be creative with them.

i have no doubt that anyone who would join the band instead of SN would get lots of hate from chiffs, and if it's someone that's not well known they may have a really hard time... i mean, just read this thread!

if it would be someone more popular than Stevie, than i guess they would become somewhat of a supergroup.

Lindsey seems dead set on recording after the tour though so maybe that's with or without Stevie.

This is Stevie's legacy too. Do you really think she won't be on the last studio record? With all the work she has done to keep this band relevant. She will be there.

it was not supposed to be their last studio record... and still doesn't have to be.

she doesn't have to be on their next one since she clearly doesn't want to. she can wait till they get to the last one and probably they'd let her be there.

^^ i couldn't agree more, and this will be there last album folks.. All 5 members are healthy now, & health wise things could be different in 5 or so years down the track.. Their not going to let this opportunity slip by now that Christine is back, and have already worked on some new songs with Lindsey etc..

I don't think it has to be somebody more popular than Stevie, per se, but it would have to be somebody with an independent mainstream identity, so that she wouldn't be expected to be Stevie II. Like when Sammy took over for David Lee.

but it will be.

they can't drag this sh&t out forever, and I don't think they want to.

I just have this feeling that part of the conversation with Chris rejoining was about her saying yes, that she was bored in the country blah blah but also that she felt she didn't want to have any regrets, that she wanted to give it one more good go before it was too late. As I say, this is just my own opinion based on nothing in particular. And I imagine Lindsey and Mick saying yes, let's do it, let's do one more big go round, we'll make an album and a tour and finish this whole thing nicely. Remember in the SYW doc when LB is talking to John about the DR album and then of course a tour and he says how it'll be a helluva 4 or 5 year run? I think that's what they had in mind with Chris' return. We'll do an album and that'll eat up a year and then we'll go into rehearsals for a month or two and then we'll go on the road and it'll start for so many dates and we'll probably end up adding more and adding countries and be on the road for a couple of years in total….

And you figure if they had indeed spent 2014 on an album and then hit the road for 2015-2016 and recorded a bunch of it then worked on editing and overdubbing the dvd and putting that out and all…. that 4-5 year run would take them til 2019 or so. By 2019 Chris would be 76, Mick 72, John 74, Stevie 71 and Lindsey 70. They'd go out with full pockets and a nice legacy. From there Lindsey can spend his remaining days doing solo stuff, working with Chris, whatever, and Stevie can do all her last solo stuff. I mean, I just don't see them touring when Chris is 80, you know??

But Stevie is the fly in the ointment. If she wants a lengthy hiatus from the band, like even a couple of years let alone the magical 3 years, wtf will the others (besides LB) do during that time? Drift off and come back in 3 years, which will be 2018 at least…and then, at the time they had thought they'd be winding down for good, they'll be expecting to gear up for an album and mega tour?? If they wait til 2018 even a 3 or 4 year run of making album and then touring will take them into 2021….now you've got Chris at 78, John 76, Mick 74……come on. No way.

I dont get the 4 or 5 year album/tour thing. I think LB with JM had other things encompassed within 4/5 years.
The current tour started in October and once Australia/NZ is done it'll be October/November. This whole massive tour is only a year or slightly more. If they'd spent 2015 working on an album then they'd have had the album out and tour wrapped up by the middle of 2016. It wouldnt be them directly editing a DVD. Other people would do thet I'm sure and would take little/no time. They wouldnt have needed to go to 2019. By 2019 they could have had 3 albums out if Stevie Nicks just got her sh*t together.
If they knocked an album out by the end of this year they could do a tour in mid-2016 and then a last album in 2016/17.

But no...it's all just going to fizzle out.

They'd never add another singer now. If Stevie doesn't participate they'll just do a foursome or quietly disband.

That said
Thinking of women of a suitable age bracket...

Tori Amos (sure, they don't need another pianist but her kooky personality would add so much fun to the band)
Annie Lennox (a bit bland for my liking, but if Stevie wants to go off and work with Dave then maybe AL could join FM edit: and I bet she could belt out a half-decent Rhiannon)
Wendy James (no particular reason except I had a crush on her when I was 15)

well, I'd disagree with you respectfully on this point. FM spends a long time overdubbing and sweetening the music and vocals on any dvd they put out (a huge chunk of The Dance is overdubs and tweaks). It almost becomes like recording another album in some ways. FM never puts out truly live, raw recordings and never will. It's not in their nature. So someone might edit the video, but Lindsey and whomever will be running the whole audio mixing and fixing and that takes months with these people.

I do totally agree with you, sadly, that it will fizzle. :(

That said, I don't want any replacements for anyone. Just put out the album as a foursome and tour as a foursome, if it comes to that. No new people at this stage of the game. They could find 2 Stevie songs to add to the setlist to pay homage to her, like they did when Christine was gone and that can be the end of it. No new singer. Then Stevie can return in a couple of years and they can get "reunion" publicity for the umpteenth time.

I don't think you can equate it to recording an album. The Dance came out just three months after it was recorded (to coincide with the start of the tour). Yes there was a fair bit of over-dubbing but most of the time-consuming work was done by Elliott Scheiner, surely.

well, he can't sing or play. so the band members have to be available to come in and re-sing vocals, dub vocals, or play additional instrumental pieces. that's the kind of thing I meant that is similar to making an album, i.e. band members have to be there and go to the studio, some outside person can't do that, they can just be at the controls of the recording/mixing.

when Elliott was giving Lindsey one of those music legend or whatever it was awards few years ago, he said he and Lindsey were doing all the work together on the Dance, and how much he learned from Lindsey during that time.

that said, in 2012 Lindsey released what was practically a straight-out soundboard recording of one of his live OMS shows, about a month after it was recorded, while he was in the middle of the ongoing tour. so i suspect he may have evolved into maybe a more hands-off, raw, with less overdubbing approach since the Dance.

love ya elle, and might agree re: LB solo, but I still remain skeptical the band as the band would really go this route.:distress: (I didn't see evidence of that on DR) Maybe it's just Stevie, I dunno. I just have lost a lot of hope they'll do anything but same old same old. :sorry:

yeah i really don't expect them to put out a DVD of this tour; Richard seems to be convinced they will but i see little evidence of that intention. but who knows, maybe they surprise us. and he does talk to Lindsey, so maybe it's not just pure speculation on RD's part.

and agree with you that solo tour is different; i think in one of the interviews when that live OMS came out LB said he originally considered making available recording after each show like some bands do, but ended up doing this instead.

None of those women have been in a band like Fleetwood Mac. Annie Lennox comes the closest, and would be an amazingly empathetic figure in that she understands what it's like working with an ex. The reason this is a problem that solo artists don't understand the challenges of being in a band. I think Fleetwood Mac has already seen this with the issues they had with Dave Mason. Even when he was in Traffic, Dave was never really a part of the band, so he never really learned the art of being in a band. There are challenges and compromises that solo/duo artists don't really have to deal with.

But the point would be just to find someone to sing Stevie's songs, wouldn't it?
That's a good question. I would hope that adding another woman to the band would be so they would continue for a few more years, both on stage and in the studio, which means they would need her to be a contributing member of the band. This is the only reason I could see to bring in new blood.

To me, it would be better to go with a no name than to replace her with a singer with her own catalog of hits that would have to be shoehorned in.
If that's the case, just bring back Bekka Bramlett. But, I think that bringing in somebody just to fill in for Stevie is the type of lounge act move Lindsey really detests. What they need is somebody who has some hits that could be shoehorned in (so that the distinction between the new girl and Stevie can be made), somebody who could cover a couple of Stevie's songs, and somebody who could contribute new material.

For me, it's the Sammy Hagar rule. David Lee Roth was the face and voice of Van Halen. They replaced him with Sammy Hagar, and that version of the band went on to sell 46 million albums. Sammy was a well known commodity when he joined, and people were willing to buy into it. They did some DLR songs, some Sammy solo songs, and new songs on those tours, and fans enjoyed it. By contrast, Gary Cherone had a #1 hit with Extreme, but it was "More Than Words" which was hardly a Van Halen-esq song. Not like "There's Only One Way To Rock" or "I Can't Drive 55."

I still maintain Susanna Hoffs is the perfect choice.

1. There would be no expectation for her to be Stevie #2. She was the face of a band that sold 23 million albums. She sang lead vocals on seven of eight of their Top 40 singles, co-wrote the band’s only # 1 single (Eternal Flame), and had a solo song in the Top 40. Hoffs could join Fleetwood Mac and just be herself.

2. She’s in a band that has multiple lead vocalists. The fact she was made to be the star of that band is ultimately what split the band up. Susanna was the one who fought the hardest to get the band back together. She learned the value of being in such a band, and now understands the challenges and compromises that being in such a band entails, as well as the value of being humble. She's NOT a diva, and that's exactly what Fleetwood Mac needs at this point.

3. Musically, she’d be a perfect fit. She’s in a band that uses lush harmonies throughout their music. Her voice is reminiscent of a younger Stevie Nicks, while Christine’s voice has a similar range and timbre to Debbie Peterson’s. She would be able to come into the band and instinctively fit in.

4. She’s a contemporary of Fleetwood Mac. The Bangles had their greatest success between 1986-1990, which is the same timeframe that Fleetwood Mac had the last of their mainstream success with new material. Susanna’s only nine years younger than Lindsey. She wouldn’t seem terribly out of place in Fleetwood Mac.

5. She still has sex appeal. She’s as gorgeous a woman as Lindsey is a man, but especially so considering their ages (56 and 65, respectively). There could be a chemistry there well worth exploring. Bringing somebody in who's of a different generation would be creepy, especially if there was a bit of a flirtation (that whole "chemistry" thing) on stage.

Hmmm. I thought that only want to #2. What's weird about looking at the charts from that era is that there were songs that were more popular on MTV than on radio. For example, "If She Knew What She Wants" only went to #29, while "Walking Down Your Streets" went to #11, but the former always seemed to be much more popular.

Not to mention "Second Hand News" (although the Sweet-Hoffs version featured Lindsey on guitar).

What I'd like to see is a "Monday" encore set:
Monday Morning
Manic Monday
Monday Monday (another Sweet-Hoffs cover)

I love The Bangles and Manic Monday "Walk Like an Egyptian" and other tunes.I just love the 1980's.

I dont know what the future holds for our favorite band .I dont have a crystal ball that works anymore.LOL.I never got them updated.

I doubt the band will dump Stevie or she sings my favorite Johnny Paycheck tune"Take This Job And Shove It" to Mick and the band this late in the game.

Don't kill me guys .LOL .I like to see Sheryl Crow do a stint with them as rumoured years ago.She could add some country twang to the band and appear on the Grand Ole Opry like Charlie Daniels Band on tonight's show.

BTW Charlie still sounds great and his band was on fire on tonight's show.

Well they had an album with no Lindsey, it went Gold. They had an album with no Chris, it went Gold. They could probably do an album with no Stevie and it could go Gold.

I just don't see it happening. I think there'll be an album with all five of them, but on Stevie's timeline (ie, after she re-releases 24KG with additional tracks and tours to promote it).

Not that this is relevant to the Stevie/FM thread, but "If She Knew What She Wants" was a jam and my fave Bangles single. Carry on.

It's relevant to me!:wavey: I love the Bangles, and that song -- a classic! Susanna Hoffs is very cool. Her cover albums with Matthew Sweet are wonderful.

OK, now back to the velvet underground, and the gypsies that we love.

Sheryl went country because her rock records no longer sold

Yea.She's more into country now which is great.

I would love to see FM on country radio with her and beat the crap out of these young so called country artists off the charts.

Since Stevie's and the Mac's rock tunes are in the same boat as Sheryl's .Maybe they should of tried it years ago.

They did. It was called "Time."

And, really, the factors that Stevie warned her about are still there, and would probably be amplified if the band didn't have to deal with Stevie's solo career anymore.

Yes but it did not get anywhere then .With Bekka It probably get some airplay on todays country radio.

Oops. I forgot radio is discriminated over older artists or bands unless they pair up with a current artist.

Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett come to mind.

Except she's never been in a band AND the issues that prevented her from joining in 2009 still exist. Being in a band, especially one like Fleetwood Mac, is very different from being a solo artist. There are challenges and compromises that she's never had to deal with.

Why does it have to be a girl??? For years CM was the only one. Why not bring in another male guitar player? Could ask Peter Frampton if he wants to tour with them. He has been in a band before and has a bunch of songs that would fit the FM set list or how about Joe Walsh? He's been in big bands and had his share of solo hits not to mention it would add to the whole dysfunctional FM thing ( now there would be 3 ex boyfriends on stage) and after dealing with the Eagles do you think any FM soap opera would phase him? LB might enjoy having another guy to jam with on stage. Peter or Joe would give LB a run for the money.

Sheryl always had some country influences. Just because she made a country album doesn't mean she has somehow transformed herself into a full-on country artist. There are now more pop influences in country music than ever before, and vice verse. I don't think Sheryl's country album sold any better or worse than her other albums.

Fleetwood Mac has lots of country influences in some of their music. Entertaining the prospect that Fleetwood Mac's next/last album could be a country album, how would that be? Just referencing all the stereotypical topics/images: small towns, truck stops, country roads, farms, chickens and hen houses, mama in the kitchen, daddy working hard to make living, etc...? I just don't see that happening, especially not now.

Stevie has the potential to make a great country album. Her early influence was country music, and it's very evident in many of the songs she has written. She's like a rock and roll Dolly.

I just don't get how Stevie could actually leave. She has always talked about how she would "never leave the band." She has also talked at length in the past about how Christine was her best friend and how she would love to have her back, and then when she came back- how nice it was to have her best friend back. Why would she leave now and not be involved. It doesn't make sense. She'd be doing exactly what she has always said she wouldn't do......and why she attacked Lindsey when he said he was leaving. I could be wrong, but I hope not.:distress:

If Stevie is truly set against a new FM record it could be because either she is unwilling to devote another 2 or 3 years to FM or it's about LB and his wanting to have HER songs be the way HE thinks they should be and will argue the point to no end...If Stevie wants creative control of her songs why not let her have it? If Stevie wants to bring Dave and or Waddy into the fold for a few songs why not let her??? If it would make her happy and get the record out why not? Yes it would change the chemistry slightly for a few songs (but not as much as replacing Stevie would) but the "FIVE" would remain intact and could then "cash cow tour" all they want.

Except that Lindsey has gone on record as saying he'd rather have somebody else produce the band at this point, and even brought in Mitchell Froom as sort of a peace offering.

If Stevie wants creative control of her songs why not let her have it?
Lindsey's already offered that, so that's not really a valid reason anymore.

If Stevie wants to bring Dave and or Waddy into the fold for a few songs why not let her???
I haven't seen anything to suggest that Lindsey or any of the others would object to Dave producing Stevie's songs. I don't see Waddy coming into the fold, though.

"I" don't have any issue with diff producers on diff songs but I know that's something they seem to be touchy about in terms of it coming across as an "uneven album", "2 solo albums pressed into one" etc. (see Say You Will) so from this angle, this could be a stumbling block right out of the gate.

except that album had one producer. Lindsey. So having more than one producer couldn't turn out any 'worse'. And as has been noted, Lindsey has said he's ok with an outside producer. He thinks, and I think he's right, that it would take the onus off him.

A while back Stevie said she wouldn't make another album (of any kind) without Dave Stewart's involvement.

So the whole 'use an outside producer' thing may get hung up more on who it is than anything.

didn't Rob Cavallo produce (or at least co-produce) most of LB's songs that came from GOS sessions and ended up on SYW, while SN's songs as well as 2 additional LB songs were produced solely by LB?

on EP there were really 3 different producers -

Mitchell Froom/LB for Sad Angel and Miss Fantasy
SN/LB for Without you
LB only for It Takes Time (or was this also co-produced by Froom)

so it's not like going forward they are not open to it.

Lindsey's 8 songs have already been co-produced by Froom, while Christine's 8 were solely produced by Lindsey, as far as we know... so this new album is already a mixed bag producer-wise, so far.

i think the producer stuff is a red herring for people looking for excuses. there's something else holding SN back.

I think she still wants to do a solo album and tour. However, the days of hopping between the two are quickly coming to an end, if they haven't ended already. This album and probable tour might be the last time she'll ever be able to work with Fleetwood Mac again. Her solo career will still be there, and she can ride into the sunset as a solo artist (contemplating how right Joni Mitchell was with "Big Yellow Taxi").

Exactly. It would appear she was jealous of Christine or she wasn't a team player by not being involved in this new FM album. Even if she has the fewest songs, it's cool. As long as she's involved in the project. Unless I hear a statement from the band, I'm still convinced Stevie will do this studio album.

38 pages later and I feel the same way I did when the thread started: get off your collective asses and put an album out already. It's been over 25 years since you five did this and you owe it--yes, owe it--to the fans who have supported you on several nostalgia tours. You also owe it to yourselves as artists to stand behind new work.

Stevie is the most visible problem right now. And whatever hangs up she has there's little she could say or do to make me sympathize with her endless, maddening demurring.

However, in truth, all five are to blame. They should have resisted the worldwide tour until they came out with new material. Period. They could have had the album finished by now. Imagine how exciting THAT tour would be?!

I agree. Presuming SN would participate (which is a huge assumption) they could have banged out the album this year and then toured in the fall and yeah, that would have been amazing. Not just to have Chris back but to also have a new album under their belts. But they didn't.

Not sure what to say about Stevie. My guess is she'll do a solo tour when the Mac tour is done and maybe work on the FM album during breaks as she's done in the past? Who knows. I'll be very surprised if we see another album from this band. The big machine has gotten far too complicated for its own good. The only thing they can agree on is touring and playing songs from 35 years ago.

As much as I detest yet another cash grab oldies tour- maybe, just maybe- it was the right thing to do in this instance. Christine and Lindsey have noted Christine's musical rustiness. It sounds like following In The Meantime, Christine stopped playing music altogether. Maybe a year of live shows is exactly what she needed to get back into the groove and find her muse again. Christine will be well oiled and inspired now.

Plus, maybe it was the right way to reintroduce the world to Christine again, and show that she brings the band to the next level. Because let's face it- it's tours that get veteran artists publicity & attention these days. Now that the public has been put on notice as to the awesomeness of Christine, dropping an album after this tour might just have been a genius move.

And I agree. If the band tours behind a new album, it will be the first time I've been excited about FM since Say You Will. And I will be positively giddy when/if that day comes. And I will end my 11 year boycott and go see them live with zeal. :D

It might not be as much of a question of will she be a part of the FM record as it is what part will LB play on her songs...It's probably a given he will have no role in production of her songs and his musical contributions will possibly be kept to a minimum and it won't surprise me if the musical credits for her FM songs include the phrase "and additional guitars by ( insert name )"...

I understand what BlueDenimLamp is saying though. With Christine back, this is not going to be Say You Will again.. Therefore, Lindsey is not going to be the sole producer, and will almost certainly not have the enormous creative task of such. Stevie will most likely bring some of her friends to the table, and rightly would put Lindsey out of a job, so to speak, as Stevie's production guru. Unless he can produce her songs as he did pre-Tango, then I think that would almost be a wise decision.. Besides, Christine brings a harmonious rhythm back to the band, and I think that would help even out Lindsey's "experiments".

He also worked on TISL with her, and hung around with her during those times (TISL/IYD) when she was working. Even if we just look at the Soldier's Angel comments, we have...

"The song was so important that I asked Lindsey to come over and bring his musical magic to it and he did – as he always does."

"We recorded it live and did some harmonies, and then he did some little lead guitar things and it was perfect. There’s no other players, just me and him. Not only did we create something that’s probably as Buckingham Nicks as we have been since 1973, but I think that song really brought Lindsey and I back together."

"In two days I think we went back to being Buckingham-Nicks because I really needed his help on that song. After we recorded it everybody said it was like you guys raced back through time and became who you were in 1973. It was great and it healed a lot of wounds."

http://33.media.tumblr.com/9006edc6f0af91da15d6254827a52dc3/tumblr_n3rpeadM7a1sn8si8o6_250.gif http://38.media.tumblr.com/581b62d6d2033544a801b63ce5a5fa76/tumblr_n3rpeadM7a1sn8si8o8_250.gif

After Lindsey mentioned publicly that she was yet to thank him for his work on SYW, etc, we got this from her:

Not long before I interviewed Stevie, Lindsey seemed close to tears when he told me that she had never thanked him for all the work he’d done on the album. “Did he say that to you?” Stevie replies incredulously. “My God. All I can is that he worked his butt off. I give him all the credit. He took my little skeleton songs and turned them into fully finished pieces. The way we work hasn’t changed. He is an immense talent, a craftsman beyond belief. I knew that the first time we met.”

She does know how to praise the man, lol.

"Then we were like this really cute couple and we were making this amazing music. And I wrote this poem about him, really. I figure into it a little but it’s mostly just about him and how I felt about him when I first met him. Because, you know, your first impressions are always important. And I found him to be sooo sexy and so handsome and so nice and so very, very talented. What’re you gonna do?”

You just don't like Lindsey.

And apparently neither does Stevie from a working musical/creative standpoint...She may have been willing to let him take as he puts it "creative liberties" 30 years ago but "That was then ...This is now" and 30 years later Stevie is more than capable of navigating the FM creative ship along the course she wants...And maybe she want's to be seen as more than just a singer/songwriter within the band...She no longer needs LB to take charge which is something he didn't learn his lesson on with "SYW" and without Christine around it was "The Lindsey Show" on overload...In fact someone just posted an excerpt from Stevie about the whole SYW LB overload thing and I think that was the straw that broke the camels back...I think the LB show went on for far to long and Stevie is at the point where she is just not playing his game again...So no matter how much LB promises to be a good boy it's not going to happen...Quite a while back there was a quote from LB where he said something along the lines of "they were trying to figure out how to record Stevie's songs"...Perhaps it had to do with how they were going to work with her people in the studio and like I said LB may end up being little more that a "Session player" on Stevie's songs. Personally I think Stevie & LB have grown in opposite directions musically and there is little if any common ground left so if she does participate she's going to make damn sure her songs are the way she wants weather LB likes it or not.

So much so that she invited him to sing and play on her solo album AND did the EP with him.

She no longer needs LB to take charge which is something he didn't learn his lesson on with "SYW" and without Christine around it was "The Lindsey Show" on overload...
What a bunch of crap. Seven out of Lindsey's nine SYW songs were recorded between 1995 and 2000, and were intended to be the core of "Gift of Screws." After Mo Ostin retired from Warner's, the new guard encouraged Lindsey to turn the solo album into a Fleetwood Mac album. It seems a little insincere for Stevie (or, more specifically, her blindly loyal fans) to be so critical of Lindsey for trying to make her songs (some new, some not) fit his vision for an album he had been working on for years, an album he had no intentions of being a Fleetwood Mac album. I'm sure Lindsey didn't think that was an ideal situation, either. If given the choice, I think he'd rather have started fresh and get back into the Buckingham Nicks mode, but there wasn't time for that.

Personally I think Stevie & LB have grown in opposite directions musically and there is little if any common ground left so if she does participate she's going to make damn sure her songs are the way she wants weather LB likes it or not.
But Lindsey has already agreed with her doing that. He welcomes it. It's half the reason he brought on Mitchell Froom for the EP songs. The whole producer thing is a red herring.

If this is one of Stevie's sticking points and she wants "Team Stevie" to produce her songs without Lb being involved with production and Mick wants Stevie's songs on the record LB may very well be asked to "sit this one out" and if LB is refusing it could be why Mick is babbling about putting the songs they already have on one of LB's solo records. Makes you wonder if LB has issued Mick an ultimatum.

I doubt he'd be "sitting it out" on any Mac album. He's clearly been working not only his own songs but Christine's as well, much to her delight. She's been absolutely fine with him "taking liberties" as he put it with her music. I"m sure he's become sensitized to working-over another writer's songs through working with Stevie. But Chris clearly wants his fingerprints all over her songs

So by virtue of him controlling the sound of his own material, and his having gotten full permission to go full steam ahead on Christine's, he'll have a huge influence on whatever they put out. That's 2/3 at least of any FM album. He won't be sitting anything out.

If Stevie wants her music produced and arranged by someone other than Lindsey, he seems willing to play along with that. He's realized it might be a blessing in disguise, getting him out of the hot seat if she doesn't like the outcome. He would (and the band together) work with whoever produces Stevie's material and whoever mixes the album to make sure they feel it has some sense of coherence or at least isn't a total Frankenstein, bolted together album.

The sticking point people refer to is just an assumption perpetuated and elaborated by fans. Is there any evidence that Stevie has said, point blank, that she doesn't want Lindsey producing her Fleetwood Mac songs, demanding that her hand-picked outsiders be assigned to the task? It sounds like a very dubious and contradictory theory.

I don't think there's any quote explicitly stating exactly that. But there are quotes that when put together paint the picture. Such as her not wanting to do anything without Dave Stewart and also her expressing her displeasure with recording Say You Will with Lindsey and saying she wouldn't do it again. I don't know if Christine changes her view on those points.

Stevie's major issues with Say You Will have to do with the circumstances surrounding the recording the album. Stevie was dealing with a lot of situational issues -- her mother's sickness/death, not having Christine there for support, and making the album in Lindsey's home studio. She felt disconnected from the process, so it was an arduous experience for her. Those are the dominating factors that linger with her.

Lindsey is responsible for bringing her classic songs to life, and she gives him credit for that. While she might have issues with the production of her Say You Will songs, I have a hard time theorizing she thinks he has lost all capability to render her songs. It's just that Dave Stewart is like a mischievous court jester -- the polar opposite to Lindsey's serious demeanor. Dave provided a levity that Lindsey lacks, and he made the recording process more enjoyable.

I bet Lindsey would have no objections if Dave was involved with the production of her songs. He even once mentioned it would relieve some of the pressure he has in his responsibilities as a producer. Dave is so amiable, it could be a very symbiotic collaboration. From a recent interview, Lindsey seems very excited about the new album, so I don't think he going to step on Stevie's toes. He wants her contributions to make the record complete.

I think Stevie called on him b/c she knew that he knew what to do with her song - it was to her advantage. Also,Stevie may talk about the SYW experience as being a nightmare in general, but when she is directly accused of saying something negative she will deny it - she has to cover her butt IMO.And Bucky's idea of "never thanking him" could mean that Stevie refused to bang him.Just sayin'....

they didn't record SYW at Lindsey's house. The band rented a house in Bel Air specifically for making the album and recorded it there. [ One of these days when I get it together I'll post my pics of the Bellagio house taken on a "FM landmarks" tour in LA.] :woohoo:

This is because Christine is always working towards the service of the songs. She knows her boundaries as a musician and performer and doesn't try to overreach. Instead, she welcomes collaboration and sparks off of others' ideas.

Stevie may enjoy collaboration with David Stewart but certainly cannot work in this intimate way with Lindsey anymore. I think the root of this incompatibility is that working with Lindsey makes her feel dependent and inferior. Whereas Christine is always on the lookout for a musical companion (she did great work with her nephew, Bob Welch, Todd Sharp, Danny Kirwan, Billy Burnette and others) and is eager to reach new heights through collaboration, Stevie is all about preserving her vision. Unfortunately, she is not an accomplished musician and cannot really work without the aid of a producer.

Because when LB helps Christine she helps him right back. She can collaborate on the chords, or the melody that can go with these chords, or the lyrics, she can even arrange and/or produce. Further, she can create her own riffs.

With Stevie, she has two or three chords and lyrics and sings them and says, "I need guitar, piano, bass and drums arranged for these. It's a lot of work from the raw material.

Taking it a step further,I think Stevie wants to be even beyond equal -she needs to be superior to all involved, the "Head Honcho" if you will.At best I think Bucky could make her feel equal, but never superior(even pretending-she knows him too well). With DS,he is basically a doormat to her every whim without fear of repercussions. That way she can have her cake and eat it too.And that cake was so sweet the first time that she went back for seconds and will probably go for thirds or more;).The evidence lies in the IYD documentary IMO.She did say that was "the best year of my life".

True! And her harmonic vocabulary is pretty rich. Coming from the blues, she brings a whole other dimension to the music. Without her, Fleetwood Mac may still possess vitality, which is fun to listen to and watch, but they lack a certain musical sophistication that one hears even before LB and SN joined--that bluesy, jazz-inflected pop one can hear on Bad Loser, Prove Your Love, the underlining chords of Remember Me, her reading of Welch's Keep on Going...all of this is indispensable stuff in the overall mix of the Rumours lineup, not only with her songs but with her contributions on the others' tunes. Her keyboards on Dreams for instance are essential to the texture of the tune--and clearly her conception. Her background vocals on that tune, as well as a number of others, pitches the music into another territory beyond Eagles rock. Lindsey may be the resident "genius" but she is equally responsible for the band's unique musical quality.

The keyboard solo at the end of Crystal, for example, gives the song a completely different dimension. As Lindsey sings, "To the sea..ee..ee.." She does a call/response which reminds me of the waves of the sea crashing in and out...

Come to find out, Christine said she was living with John in Malibu in a flat right on the coast. She was actually near the ocean a lot. I truly believe that it creeped it's way into that album. I can hear it in a few places. Even the car horn in Sugar Daddy reminds me of her making her way back to LA in her convertable.

Mick Fleetwood Hoping Fleetwood Mac Will Release New Album "Within the Next Couple of Years"

9 March 2015

[Courtesy Credit: Danny Clinch] Will Fleetwood Mac release a new album with longtime singer/keyboardist Christine McVie? That’s a question on the minds of a lot of the band’s fans. It’s no secret that the group has started amassing some material for a possible new record, but founding drummer Mick Fleetwood admits it may be a “couple of years” before he and his band mates will have the chance to complete the project since they’re currently focused on touring and will be for some time.

“This whole touring stuff is getting sort of totally, in a good way, out of control,” Fleetwood tells ABC Radio. “We’re going all over the world now, so we don’t quite know how we’re gonna finish this [album] out.”

Fleetwood Mac is in the middle of its second North American tour leg since Christine McVie officially rejoined the band last year. The current trek is scheduled to run through an April 14 concert in the Los Angeles area, and that will be followed by a European outing that runs from late May until the middle of July. The group also is expected to visit other parts of the world before wrapping up the tour.

As for the new music Fleetwood Mac has been preparing, Mick tells ABC Radio, “We’re building up this whole sort of dossier of material, a glut of stuff.” He explains that singer/guitarist Lindsey Buckingham “has a great chunk of wonderful songs, [most of which are] pretty flushed out and finished,” adding that the band also has “been in the studio with Christine in months gone by [and that] worked out amazingly well.”

Fleetwood says the only element that really is missing from the project is some new original songs from Stevie Nicks. For her part, Nicks told ABC Radio late last year that she was unsure whether, after the band wrapped up its tour, she would be willing to keep her solo career on hold and “sign up for another year of making a record.”

And what are Mick’s feelings about the chances for a new Fleetwood Mac album? “I hope it happens,” he says. “My inclination is, the music will not be wasted. It will come out one way or another. And I truly hope, and I quietly believe it will be Fleetwood Mac, and Stevie will do some lovely stuff and within the next couple of years we will get that done.”

Here are the remaining dates on Fleetwood Mac’s current North American tour:

Well, luckily songs don't have "use by" date. Is 2017 now the estimate date for album? I assumed it could be done and out in 2016.

It's criminal. Lindsey and Christine would just sit there for 2 years rather than finding some other way to release their music. And while Lindsey may do something solo once the band is off the road, I want to hear Christine's songs too. They aren't going to find any way to get their music out before 2017??

Seriously, Mick used to be the most easy-going member of the band and even he had his limits. Lindsey, Christine and John didn't have tolerant personalities at all, but now they're just ... ugh.

I disagree. Music can spoil if you don't release it in the time it is supposed to be released. The artist may not even be inspired by it, anymore.

Did anyone honestly and truly believe we were actually going to get an album in 2015? I never did for a minute. That's just not how this band works. At least not in the last 30+ years.

However, I am still sure there will be an album. 2017 would be perfect, actually. It'd give them all time to work out any new material as a group; not just work in splintered pairs. Obviously it would coincide with the 40th anniversary of Rumours, too. That would seem an appropriate time for the band to make their final album and tour.

It's been a dozen years since Say You Will; 28 since Tango. What's a couple more years? ;)

That's just not how this band works. At least not in the last 30+ years.

this is how this "band" works as far as LB goes, since 2000:

2001 - waiting for SN to do FM
2002 - waiting for SN to do FM
2003 - SYW
2006 - UTS
2008 - GOS
2009 - waiting for SN to do FM
2010 - waiting for SN to do FM
2011 - SWS
2012 - waiting for SN to do FM
2012 - This is 40
2013 - EP
2014 - waiting for SN to do FM
2015 - waiting for SN to do FM

the years they / he toured? at least some of the time it was because SN didn't want to record with FM (2009, 2012, extremely likely timing of 2014/2015 too). and it's not like they cannot record while on tours, it's that "politically" they cannot agree to do it during the tour.

you think SYW or EP was splintered? just wait for this one, if it ever comes out!

album that had at least 2 false starts that we know of already, trying to build it from ground up, as a group? and that will maybe somehow get SN on board under who knows what conditions she will put on her participation?? not splintered? from ground up, all together? right. ;)

now if SN doesn't participate in the end and they do put it out anyway? that has a good chance to be a cohesive album.

Nooooooooo.....
Why wait? they should just get this material out now.
If Stevie wants to re-join then there's nothing wrong with wrapping things up with a '50 years of Fleetwood Mac/40 years of Rumours' reunion album in 2017 but that can all be brand new material written in 2016/17.

Grrrrrrr. They must be so frustrated.

Maybe they should just release some of what they have as singles- one a month and then put them all together on an album at the end.

yeah it's weird. i was just listening to SWS yesterday after a long long time (i don't listen to much LB anymore these days since there's no new music ) and it struck me how different LB's attitude seems to be now from then... with somehow having all the time in the world now. maybe because he's again with the group of people where he's the youngest? or getting that hair back helped? :p;) at least 2 songs on SWS were so clearly about wrapping up the last acts and even dying (Gone Too Far and End of Time).

Other issue they probably looking at is radio airplay. The last outings of Stevie's went into the stations round file"Rubbish can". or the recycle bin on their music servers.

Classic rock stations like the River format might play it like SYW in 2003.
Since radio is age discriminant over older artists or bands . Forget the top 40 stations unless they record teenybopper,Rap-hiphop or country tunes.

They could team up with some young artist or band like Lady Gaga with Tony Bennett and others like that.

Unless this upcoming album is a fan album like 24K is.It wont see the airwaves unless some college stations will give it a spin.Iheartradio probably have the mac do a guess DJ like Stevie with her 24K album and let it run for a week or two.Atlease it will get played online.

I've run Stevie up a pole regarding her keeping FM shut down for the 21st century. I have no doubt at all that it is her fault we've only gotten 1 FM album the past 15 years, and I have no doubt she's the one who has this newest project frozen in it's tracks. I'm way, way more angry with her than my posts allude to. However, all I'm asking here is for people to speculate why Stevie is digging in her heels. She's gotten everything she demanded- Christine's return, Lindsey's agreement to an outside producer. She's released 3 solo albums this century to the Mac's 1; so FM isn't stealing her away from her solo career. So what the Hell is going on? That's what I'm trying to get folks to talk about. I personally think it's something more legitimate than just Stevie's ego and stubbornness. I also tend to think this time in particular is different. I think it's simple: she doesn't enjoy being in the studio with Lindsey. I think Dave Stewart created a safe, fun, tension-free environment for her last two albums and that's how she wants to work from now on.

well, it is 21st century. she doesn't have to be in the studio with him. he and Christine worked long-distance on Christine's music first, so it's not like FM members are stuck in the distant past when you couldn't do it that way.

now if by what you said you mean she doesn't want any constructive criticism, she just wants whoever works with her to fulfill whatever her vision is, that may be the case. i'm thinking at this point, other band members would agree to her songs being mostly flashed out and done when she brings them to the band, just to get them out. (but i may be wrong. they really wanted to build new album together as a band for years now.)

two "whys" that i have heard /seen floating around:
1) she apparently didn't like LB's production on her SYW songs - this is tightly related to your point editme2.
2) she is "dry" music-wise, and all music she's been putting out since 2010 is either old music or written by someone else, with just lyrics being hers.

for this second point possible solutions are:

she contributes old songs as she always partly has anyway.
she has a co-writer outside the FM that can write melodies/music for her new poems. this then gets to the question how compatible this will be with FM, but it could work.
she comes to FM and works with either LB or CM or both and they can co-write with her, or help her out of her dry spell musically, if that's what she's worried about. but that of course comes full circle back to your point of apparently she not wanting to work with LB.

now if that's the case, we can go back to why doesn't she want to work with LB?

for professional reasons? (see SYW above. also apparently she has been working her whole career to prove she is a viable and talented songwriter without having to lean on LB. one would think by now she'd be secure in that, but maybe she's not?)
for personal reasons? (while he loves her and considers her a family, he has a life that doesn't involve SN anymore, and she can't get used to that?)

Exactly! Songs don't expire. Stevie says she's always writing. To insinuate that her recent release proves she's "dried out" creatively is hogwash. Anyone who read any of the articles about 24K knows she used mostly demos for that release due to time constraints (among other reasons). And there was nothing wrong with that.

My belief is that she just isn't comfortable working in the studio with Lindsey, no matter how it's done these days (Skype, email, what-not), and no matter if Christine is there or not. I think the stage is one thing for Stevie, the studio is another.

but I could be totally wrong.

I did not know new written songs can go stale like a bag of chips or a bottle of milk.

Songs about the current events can be dated but some can be a tribute to the issue or the person the songs written about.

Stevie already proved she can revive tunes from her vault and refresh them up for 24K.I cant wait for the second 24K album.

At this point .I dont care if her tunes for the new FM album are fresh or 30 plus years old.

She doesn't have the talent to carry out her own vision. She needs someone else to do it. Christine and Lindsey can both write, play, arrange and produce.

So her only power is to have a solo career and hire someone to make up for her lack of ability. If you think about it, why would she stay in a position where she has to share the limelight. Answer: a tour worth multi-millions of dollars. She doesn't get that with a FM album.

So my theory is she will go back to where she has her own power and decision making. Tonight Live Nation presents... Rod Stewart & Stevie Nicks.

and yet I'd bet you dollars to donuts she'd totally claim that she's given up way too much time to FM this century at the expense of her solo career. It's just how she sees things; don't confuse the issue with facts.:( She seems to think all the Mac tours just limited her solo time or something... well, ya know, you can turn them down sistah... oh but wait, the money, the money the money.....

Clearly (to me) not wanting to do an album with LB in charge is one of her big problems. But as has been noted, that is fixable.

Then I thought, maybe it's her ego, she can't get past the fact that a new album won't go gold let alone platinum... but then, neither did her last two solo albums...

So yeah, I don't get what's up her bum about an album, I really don't.

Lindsey Buckingham “has a great chunk of wonderful songs, [most of which are] pretty flushed out and finished,”

Ha ha ha ha ha ha. Flushed out! Most likely that is just a mistake by a writer who doesn't know "flush" from "flesh," but wouldn't it be funny if it is really a subtle comment on the whole situation? Maybe Stevie won't be happy until Lindsey's contributions are flushed out of this proposed new album altogether!

It will be worth the wait to present the songs in the more solid context of a complete comprehensive album that lives beyond the digital world.

However, the long meantime, it would be nice if they could threw us a bone or two, and preview some early versions of a few songs that will be featured on their album in a more refined form.

Someone asked this question in the meet and greet. The answer was yes. They were going to do a new album. Mick stated that Christine and Lindsey had a lot of new material to contribute. He didn't mention Stevie material. He didn't come right out and say that Stevie is the wrench in plans, but he stated that Stevie had things "going on" that would affect how fast they could start or how long it would take to complete the album.

Stevie has always been committed to Fleetwood Mac. I wonder why she would put "something" ahead of the band.

I translate this to Stevie wanting to write new material after the tour, put it to demo form, see if she can synch up with Dave Stewart's schedule to produce her tracks within FM, then bring all of that to the band. With Christine back in the fold I sense now more than ever that Stevie will want to bring her A game for this album. She will want to contribute new, not recycled material. And she'll want that material to be presented in a way which is flattering to her, hence my speculation she'll want to make sure Dave is available when the time comes.

Not just that, I still think Stevie will want to do some sort of promotion for her 24k Gold album after the FM tour wraps. I still suspect that'll be a hand picked collection of theatre dates in select markets. If she did that, and performed mostly 24k material, she could get the best critical reviews of her career, IMO. When she went screening her In Your Dreams documentary in theatres and did the small shows for the Sound City promotion, she was having the time of her life. I can totally see her wanting to do something boutique like that for 24k, especially with the clock ticking on this whole FM album.

Whatever the case, Stevie will want some space from FM after this 2 year tour wraps. I think once she has her ducks in a row she will rejoin FM for this album. One can never be terribly sure of anything involving this band; but I really, really don't think Stevie will pass up the chance to record one last album with the Rumours 5.

I agree. She won't pass up the opportunity to record with the Rumours 5, but I am just surprised she isn't working with them first. Instead of putting her work on the back burner, she is putting that first and putting the Mac on the back burner. That was a surprise to me.

Yeah, Lindsey is putting his solo stuff on the backburner and he's been doing FM for exactly as long as she has except he hasn't taken any breaks to do solo stuff and doesn't intend to do so after the tour either. He understands the significance of this reunion.

I'm not doubting that Stevie will eventually join them. I am disgusted that, at their age, and after a long tour where they have presented the same old songs, we have to wait two more years (if all goes well). They are all old now. In two years, Christine will be 74. The time is now. No creative venture of Stevie outside of the band context justifies the wait. Not after all these years. Not when the possibility is so damn close. I'm sorry, but it's true. This is all so intolerable.

I don't doubt that Stevie will eventually participate either, but the process of pulling her teeth to get her there has already tainted the experience. It's hard to get excited about her being on it, if she clearly doesn't want to be. That doesn't mean that the music won't still sound good, whenever it is released. I'm sure that there will be some real gems from all three, but I do think something that should have been joyous has already been soured.

Moreover, I don't think her ultimate contribution will be worth the years of delay. I don't know why they can't put out new music now, without her, and then put out more music later in 2017 when she's ready.

I'm also not looking forward to the interviews she will inevitably give describing what a magnanimous sacrifice she has made by taking part in the album, how angry, impatient and jealous all the others were, and how everything wrong with the album is not only not her fault, but something she fought against. If everyone had listened to her, all the album's bad parts would never have existed. The album is still an embryo waiting to be fertilized, but I already know how the interviews are going to play out.

I totally agree. A normal band would put out an album now with the members who are available, and another album later with the whole band. It doesn't make sense to wait for 2 years for Stevie's contributions, especially since they will most likely be the least interesting musical components of the album. Yes, of course the full band, all 5 of them, is the most popular configuration, but they can be popular enough with just 4 of them. They made Say You Will without Christine, why can't they make an album without Stevie, given that the rest of them are primed and ready to go.

Just what is it Stevie wants to do that is so earth-shattering, really?? The Rhiannon songs? I hate to say it but her voice is NOT up to those songs anymore. Part of what is so compelling about the demos is how gorgeous her voice was…. the full range she could sing. She can't now. She can crank up a high note if she needs to (like Sorcerer) but you hear her working to do it when she does. It was all so effortless then. Like her voice on Dreams (on Rumours). She just glides into those high notes with no thought, no visible effort. Now you can feel the effort, and she sings more slowly and measured now to consciously get her voice where she needs it to go. Before it was wild and untamed, even in the Wild Heart days. Now it's stodgier. I don't imagine Rhiannon as quite the grizzled veteran Stevie is now. I still think she's interesting to listen to, but not on those songs.

So, what? More demos? Fine, but is that REALLY worth holding up the final FM album for?? Really???

She does not to put up with the studio bickering .Just let her do her thing and the thing will get done.I cant blame her for that.

Who wants to go to work and put up with the bickering of coworkers every day.

Sorry about being to blunt.I think its one of the issues here.

She rather record her vault music or what ever she likes with Dave with no headaches with FM.

You make some very salient points!

It's not that she doesn't want to to be on the album; she just wants to regain her power of choice. In the past she was more tolerable in weaving her solo career around her responsibilities to Fleetwood Mac.

The timing of Christine's return to the band was the catalyst. It clashed with Stevie's solo plans. She was likely obligated /pressured into committing to this extremely extensive tour.

Stevie initially seemed so excited and enthusiastic when Christine rejoined. I foolishly thought it was in terms of collaborating and recording new music with her. I can understand why this slavish tour has soured her interest in investing any more time with them.

It's frustration, not jealousy that divides them. Stevie has it easier compared to the rest of the band. Since she doesn't play an instrument, they carry most of the weight. She just has to contribute three songs, and sing harmonies on a few other songs. Why would this seem such a burden on her?

See, this is the interesting thing to me. I don't think she DID seem very excited and enthusiastic about it. In all the press, yes. When interviewed in person? Not so much. I think the most striking example was at the Grammys (IIRC). She was asked if she and the band were excited about Christine's return and she said she was "excited FOR her". Almost every comment about her return being so wonderful has been accompanied by that 'I told her that it's really tough, that she'd need a trainer, that she had to stay', and so on.

I honestly thought I'd see far more excitement from her in video interviews leading up to the tour, and frankly, I didn't. She does seem very happy onstage with Christine's return, though. I think much of that has more to do with a greater feminine energy or whatever she'd call it, as well as a change in her onstage 'burden' when it comes to lead vocals and so on. Less pressure on Stevie.

Also interesting to me is how typically dramatic Stevie gets about Christine saving her from the 'wilderness' or however she described the past 16 years, and that they're BFFs or whatever. And yet Christine, when asked whether she'd kept in contact with the band during her absence, never even mentioned keeping in contact with Stevie or Lindsey in her response, only the two Brits.

When my mom and dad separated back in 2001, I was devastated. It hit me like a truck and I just had a VERY hard time dealing with it...and I was in my 20's!

I lived with my dad after they separated/divorced and we got along great. Then, in 2005-2006, my mom started coming back around. Eventually, they were re-married in 2006. I was conflicted and mostly not happy about it. I tried to put on the glad-you-are-back-together face, but inside...I was just not happy about it. There are a million reasons why that I'd rather not share here.

Perhaps that is what Stevie is feeling too. She's no longer the only girl, she had gotten used to that and she had come to grips that Christine was gone for good. Now, she's back, Lindsey is super excited about working with her and I think Stevie thought she would be able to work more on solo stuff and other interests. Now...that has changed.

I dunno...just a theory.

Wow, we agree. On stage when Christine did, Don't Stop in London, Stevie looked beside herself. In the 40 years I've been watching Stevie Nicks, I don't think I've ever seen her that happy.

Then in the interviews I didn't see much of that enthusiasm, either. I think part of it is that she doesn't like to steer the conversation away from herself. Talk about another woman in my interview?? Hell no!

I genuinely believe they were like sisters early on and share war stories. I believe they were co-conspirators in breaking up with the FM counterparts. Especially since both John and Lindsey have alleged stories of yelling and violence. But I think as they broke into their solo careers there friendship became just like B/N relationship. More nostalgia than anything else.

Is she happy Christine is back? Yes. Does she want to record with them? No.

Why? My theory is because both Lindsey and Christine take over FMac albums and Stevie gets left in the dust. When she does her solo album she can boss everyone around because they are paid by her to arrange, fix, produce and make her raw material a finished product.

Whilst in FMac, she has to get patted on the head by her co-writers, especially Lindsey, about how her music will be crafted and presented. Why would she want that after 12 years? If Stevie was interested in making a B/N or Mac project, believe me.. she would make it happen.

She's interested in doing her own thing after, but only after she collects the huge paycheck from this world tour. And that's my story.

Right. He has always said that he and Stevie had problems to begin with, before they ever met FM and maybe they would have worked it out and maybe they wouldn't have. And I don't think he saw Christine as a conspirator as much as he saw her as a sounding board for Stevie.

Stevie has said the same thing herself about her and Christine only having each other to talk to about the crazy men.

I don't agree with you that they were like sisters. I mean, yes sisters .... I think the entire band has a sibling relationship with each other, but I think Christine only sees Stevie as a little sister that you love, but might not have much in common with, rather than as a confidant. And I think that was true even in the early days and they were closest when they were sharing that condo, while recording, but that was probably just about it. I think they have love, but not a great connection.

well, and look carefully at some of the things Stevie has said about their relationship over the years "Chris and I didn't have anyone else to talk to" "We only had each other" i.e. in this world of all men.

By the time they get to even the recording of Rumours, Stevie had her coterie of girlfriends, certainly starting with Robin and then Mary (who Richard says met Stevie after she, Mary, started dating Richard and was hanging around them all the time) and her closeness with Chris changed to more colleagues in the band rather than personal friends who hung out outside of work and confided their secrets. Once the band circle began to grow and include more women, Stevie got her friendship from those other women more than Chris.

And of course Chris has always said about herself that she was more of a tomboy, that she loved the company of men and tended to hang out more with men. I just don't ever see Chris staying up all night doing her makeup and trying on different outfits and taking selfies.

Christine's return changed the balance in the band in a way that really was not favorable to Stevie. I mean, Stevie's individual success automatically gives her power in FM, but she already had that and keeps that. I'm saying that Christine's return doesn't give her anything more. Creatively, Christine doesn't side with Stevie in any band matters and never has. So, Christine being there doesn't give her a new ally on stage and in the studio. In fact, it gives Lindsey one. And it probably gives him two that he didn't have, because John probably tends to side with whatever Chris wants to do.

Even the SYW album probably wouldn't have been that much different with Chris around, other than the fact that Lindsey would have 6 songs instead of 9. Christine probably wouldn't have liked Come being on the album, but I doubt that she would have blocked it. With Christine contributing songs like SYHA herself, Lindsey would have been all the more intent on contrasting with her by adding Come, Morrow and Rover to the album, than he was without her there. So, Christine adds balance by her contributions, but she doesn't change Lindsey creatively.

She may change him socially though and her presence might make his personality more palatable, but even that is different than it was in the old days. I think that when Christine was gone, Stevie gained more power within the band than she had ever possessed before Christine left and Lindsey tried harder to please Stevie and to bite his tongue than he had in the past. They had to be more of a team, perforce, when Christine was not there than they do now.

Chris clearly didn't consume the vast quantities of coke that Stevie did to fuel those all-nighters :woohoo:

I guess alcohol took the edge off of whatever coke that Christine had. But the energy that Stevie had was hilarious. You can see it in the Tusk photo shoot.

probably because, by her own account, she was totally high most of the time and thus out on planet Stevie somewhere. Someone needed to be keeping an eye on her. God knows left to herself what kind of trouble she'd end up in.

You know Bombaysaffires, you were saying earlier how effortlessly Stevie hit those high notes. I've thought the same way about her heels. She didn't just walk in them, she leaped. She could jump up at will as if the shoes had springs on them. In the Angel videos we have, you know she's just jumping almost as if she didn't have to bend her knees. She just thought about being off the ground and -- suddenly -- she was.

Now, when I see her walk across the stage in the ankle boots that are really chic, but too high for her, I can it's a strain. The increasing difficulty and effort is an analogy for a lot of things.

Wow! I love this board, so many different views to consider. I want to disclaim right now that I have had a few drinks, so this post may be all over the place. I just have a bunch of thoughts about our band. First of all Stevie will definitely make an album with Fleetwood Mac. There is No way she would not be apart of that, I'd bet my life. I love Lindsey as an artist, and Stevie is no angel, but there is more to that than we will ever know because they are loyal. Everyone gets on Stevie, but it seems Lindsey was controlling, and she has hinted that he is still annoyed that she has a solo career. Honestly, if Lindsey had a sucessful solo career on the par of Stevie,we'd be having a different argument..

I'm glad you are enjoying your wine. I'm a red wine drinker and will admit I might have recklessly wrote few posts here while under the influence (I'm a sober insomniac at this moment).

Lindsey has always been a leader of sorts since the Buckingham Nicks era. His controlling nature is no surprise to Stevie. Yet to a certain extent, that trait has served the band well. Yes, they are a democracy, but they are also largely dependent on Lindsey's guidance and ability to meld all the disparate musical pieces together to form the whole.

I don't feel that any member of the band gives a sh*t about her career. Lindsey is not jealous of Stevie's solo success. His solo career operates on a alternative scale; his concept of success leans more toward artistic satisfaction rather than commercial achievement. I'm sure he wishes that he could profit more from his work. But he's not in competition with Stevie's career in terms of power. Stevie needs a village to realize her artistic visions. Lindsey needs no one.

Yes, I'm sure at least earlier he was disappointed in not being more successful but even so it never caused him to alter his artistic vision in the name of having more hits.

Another member posted this video of them performing Landslide last night in Nashville, and I guess I just thought it was touching.

I get so frustrated in Stevie's demeanor towards the rest of the band sometimes, especially Lindsey. But then they have these little wonderful moments every once in a while and it makes me think maybe they're not as bad off as we all make them out to be.

And maybe it wasn't "genuine" and maybe it was...but it gives me a little hope that things aren't as tumultuous between them and that maybe they will be able to work together to give us at least one more album.

Regardless..it's nice to see these moments between them. I like when they're affectionate with each other (in a plutonic sense). I wish they could bottle these feelings and use them when they decide to make new music together again.
