View Full Version : Nicks says she doesn't know whether she'll ever be on board with new FM album
not sure when exactly she was interviewed, but if it was during a week FM was on their break before Canada, then this is probably the most current thinking:

relevant excerpt -
They'll have to be, considering the Fleetwood Mac world tour will stretch far into 2015. That's why Stevie says she can't say right now if she'll join the rest of the band in the studio to record a new album, as Mick Fleetwood says he hopes she will in his new autobiography.
"I don't know, because nothing can be done on that until we're done, and we have another seventy shows until this American tour is done, then we have Australia, then we have Europe. This isn't gonna be done until this time next year," Stevie tells ABC News Radio about the prospect of a new Mac album. "So, I don't know how I'm gonna feel in a year."
"I don't know whether I'm gonna wanna go back to my own thing or whether I'm gonna wanna sign up for another year of making a record," she adds. "I don't really know what I'm gonna wanna do then."
Fleetwood Mac is currently on tour in Canada. They'll return to the U.S. next week but have dates scheduled in North America through March.

my 2 cents...
1. It must be weird for the rest of FM to be touring with her and I assume be really excited about the music that Chris and Lindsey have already recorded and not be able to get a commitment from her about a new FM record. I can only imagine that they are frustrated, especially since Stevie always used to sound so nostalgic for the days that Chris was still in the band. I was assuming that once Chris came back, Stevie would be really excited about that too, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
2. Can they not just go in the studio and get a record done in 2 months? They have a large percentage of it done already.
3. Could it be that Stevie doesn't have any new songs, doesn't write with Lindsey or Chris, and for whatever reason doesn't feel OK with just saying that? If that's the case, why not pick a few of her old songs that didn't make it on to 24 Karat Gold?
4. I really really really want a new FM CD with all of them on it. I'm curious as to what will happen if Chris and Lindsey do want a new CD with their songs and Stevie doesn't want to add anything. Would they release a new CD without and songs with Stevie on lead vocals? Or without Stevie at all?
5. The drama with FM never stops, does it?

There you have it. This has been her sentiment since this tour was planned last fall. I was bummed when she said it then but figured she would changer her mind eventually. Nope. It has zero to do with her not having songs.

Crazy. Who knows what her reasons are, but why tour if she won't record? If she doesn't want to do it, Lindsey and Christine should just finish it without her.

The band should just give her an ultimatum at the end of the tour: You're in or you're out, but we are going ahead with an album. I'll bet she get in the studio in a hurry then.

Am I reading this correctly? If true, I guess far more dates will be announced. I suppose a second leg of the west coast will also happen.

I am a frequent reader but very seldom post anything because it seems like posts from "new fans" or new members are not to be commented on.
Anyhow....and if anything I will probably get bashed for this but I admire her for being honest about not being on board for a new record and not knowing if she ever will be, instead of giving promises and do things that perhaps she knows will not make her happy and do it just out of duty and not with her heart in the right place.
She commited to a new, quite extensive tour with FM right after getting back from a huge tour - jumping on a new tour that NEVER would have happened if it weren't for Christine returning. So even if it has been Stevie's dream to have Chris back why should she feel obliged to commit to everything that the rest of them wants just because Chris is back???
If it means a new FM record without Stevie so be it. Go Stevie!! Considering how loyal she has been to Fm (that's my opinion) over the years I think she has the right to do what ever makes her happy at this stage in her life, especially since there seem to be so many things that she would still like to do the next ten years.
That was my 2 cents I guess...... now going back to my "only reading not posting" state of mind....

I'm so glad to hear they are coming to Australia.
Well, I'm kind of with her on this.
They are all nearing 70 and touring must be tiring plus they've got at least another 6/7 months of it.
They can't tour and make records as far as she sees it.....they made the decision to tour first, so the Album will have to wait.
So this tour will go into October/November of 2015?

if true, yes.
which also mean that FM77's info about tour ending in June 2015 is old info, not currently true anymore.
it's also funny how SN thinks that her 3-4 songs will need a year to record while 15 or so already recorded (with 8 practically finished) needed only 2.5 months.

Well, "New Poster", I agree with everything you posted here, and not just for my own selfish reasons. She did make a record recently, and she does have to promote it at some point, otherwise it'll be too late. She may as well throw 24 Karat Gold right into the garbage can. I'm glad she was honest. Of course after this whole things done, she could change her mind once again. Who knows. As far as her doing the two or just for a money grab, I think you could maybe accuse all of them of that.

Cash grab. She needs the cash to pay the bills .Things are not cheap today.I went to Walmart and picked up some food and it cost $20 bucks for it and only 3 bags worth
"I don't know how I'm gonna feel in a year."This statement scares me.
If Chris was not on board with FM. They probably would not bother with this tour.Stevie will just do her own business .
I love to see a new FM CD but I'm not going to loose any sleep over it if it happens or not but I will loose sleep and worry about her health and rest of FM's health.

I'm sorry, but I will be sorely disappointed if she can't honestly find it in herself to do one last album.
Stevie is my #1 favorite artist - but 24 Karat Gold might be my last solo record of hers I will have purchased. It blows my mind that she would consider passing up this AMAZING opportunity to record an album with Christine back. There's an enormous sense of potential here for a record and she would rather do another half baked release with the bland Dave Stewart than give fans and her bandmates one last great effort.
Quite honestly if she does back out, I hope the band releases and album without her and she faces the public backlash and disappointment. I feel she needs a bit of a reality check.
That would probably be the final nail in the coffin for Fleetwood Mac though.

Actually, it might stoke album sales just from all the drama in the media: "Mac album without Nicks", etc. I agree with others that Mac should go ahead and finish the album whether Nicks is on board or not.
She had a great "really fun" year recording In Your Dreams with Stewart, and she apparently had a not great, not fun, time doing Say You Will with Lindsey. Maybe this is partially what's driving her....she may want to do another album with Stewart rather than something with Mac, although I also agree with others here that it seems like she's not actually thinking through that Mac already has about half of an album completed.

Funny thing: I've mentioned before that I wish they could work out a deal where Mac helps Nicks promote 24KG by doing "Lady" in concert, her and McVie, and selling 24KG along with the t-shirts, in exchange for Nicks committing to do an album with Mac.
And in this interview she mentions playing "Lady" with McVie. She says it's "not probable" but she mentions it.
It'd be great if they got creative with negotiating and worked something out.

Maybe she heard the songs and didn't think they were that good? Maybe she doesn't want to see an album by the band go ignored and do little sales? And maybe Lindsey has refused to bring on another producer and she (like quite a few people on here) isn't a fan of his recent production style, especially when collaboration doesn't happen? There are many elements at play here.

True. But if she thinks it won't sell she's crazy. A last hurrah with the Rumours line-up would at least go Gold, mark my words. If they did marketing like the Eagles did with their final album, it could do multi-platinum and would be a fitting end.
Although all that being said, they keep talking about a "whole new chapter" so at least Mick and Lindsey apparently would like to see multiple tours and albums.

I agree. Plus, it's possible she truly is just playing all of this by ear. She doesn't know if she & Lindsey will be happy with one another throughout this tour. And she wants an out in case things blow up. Or who knows- maybe she's worried Christine is here for the tour, but will jet after that's over? Or perhaps there is still lingering concern over John's health, and where he'll want to be after this tour is done. So, so many factors.
That being said, I still sense this is Stevie withholding because she's either not sure she wants to record with the band, or she's not yet gotten what she wants through negotiations.

That's my take on it: Stevie's in "wait & see" mode. Which is wise. Who knows what inter-band relations will be like after three solid years on the road together? And it's not like she has to make up her mind tomorrow anyway.
In my heart of hearts, I truly believe she will ultimately agree to record with the band. Even if she doesn't, it's unfair to paint her as the "bad guy."

Why would Stevie be the " "b*tch" that didn't come back." What a double standard some fans hold Stevie to. Was Lindsey considered the "b*itch" when he suddenly quit spitefully (some would consider his exit "burning bridges") only to come back to the band 9 years later. Was Christine considered the "B" when she unexpectedly quit in 1998, and unexpectedly came back 16 years later?!?
Things have changed. Bottom line is they're much older now and Stevie apparently does not want to spend her final golden years chained to Fleetwood Mac .
And Mick & Lindsey should blame themselves. They ALL put touring as a priority over a new record by continuing this never ending "On With The Show" tour into 2015. They could have stopped at the end of this year.
And Stevie won't be crucified. Only by a petty few on this fan board! Not only is Stevie beloved by millions, but also I believe, by and large, the general public & music buying demographic is not really going to care that much about a new FM record in 2016 or 2017 (with or without Stevie) they just want the hits, FM's glory days.
After 2015, they will have been coasting on "greatest hits" concerts for three straight years; 2013, 2014, and soon most of 2015. So what's the plan exactly? Do they expect to go in the studio in 2016 and then start up another tour afterwards, after they have saturated the market. I don't see it. Honestly, I can't say I blame Stevie for not knowing whether she will want to continue another 1-2 years with FM after 2015.
I have to say, my interest in a new FM record has considerably waned, and I never thought I'd say that out loud! It speaks volumes that Stevie didn't give Lindsey & the band some of her demos to work on last spring, while she was recording in Nashville. But I'm soooo thankful Stevie released the fab 24KG!!!!!

Exactly. All the hand-wringing and stress over this is pointless at this stage - the band clearly has chosen to do a World Tour now instead of finishing up the album. in retrospect it would have been better to not have booked this tour right away… Chris, Linds and the rest keep at it in the studio, Stevie might pop in and out as she preps for some kind of solo tour, let her do her solo shows even for just a couple of months (her solo tours are not gargantuan any more) while they keep working on the album and then put a new album out and THEN tour all you want and be done. You've closed out FM on both fronts by then-- album and tour-- and if no one wants to give it another go then no loose threads are still hanging out.
Though I disagree with Stevie's choices to date for my own selfish reasons, you gotta figure she's looking at how to close out both Mac and her solo career on high notes. Mac-wise, ok, they've opted for the big, high-profile tour-- who sells out arenas at 60 and 70-something (as she said in the article with Haim)? Very few acts. Go out with a bang. Her solo career? Does she want that to end with an album that, however good, has really been mostly ripple in the public consciousness? (I know that comment will blow some Ledgies' heads off, but in the real world that album has not been huge, it's been respectable, but that's it). I think she feels like she can let FM go if need be and know it ended well, they came full circle with Chris, etc.
The solo stuff she still seems looking for a big ending. She's 66. She'll be 67/68 before getting her next chance for solo stuff (24k tour doesn't count as new material). Time is short. Again, I disagree with how they've mapped this whole thing out, but there we are.

Just so you know, we are on the same page. I also agree with you that definitely would be a double standard if Stevie left the band. She would probably get a lot more backlash. In fact, I just asked a coworker here who's a fan of Fleetwood Mac how he would feel about that, and he said, incredilously, why would she ever do that?? Then I told him, do you remember when Lindsay left? He said, no - did that happen? Grant you, this is a guy that remembers everything about sport and music and he didn't remember Lindsay ever leaving the band. That says a lot.
I don't believe Stevie should be crucified at all, but unfortunately she probably would be.

Stevie has often made comments about 'sticking with the band','when you're in a band you cant let it down' etc. However, I think there is a chance she might just formally announce her departure from the band towards the end of this tour. It seems she just really wants to do her own thing. I actually feel sorry for her; she wanted to do solo stuff before Christine came along which obviously threw a spanner in the works.
If she does leave then good luck to her- it would be totally unfair (and ridiculous) if she faced any backlash.
I'd like to see the remaining four go alone. In fact, make it more interesting;
Mick, John, Lindsey, Chris, Rick, Billy (oh yehhh)

Nice of her to finally bother to say so, ending her months of silence on the subject. Silence which was uncharacteristic and quite telling and informative in and of itself.
It's been clear that she hasn't committed to doing an album all of this year.

He did not quit spitefully. He quit after completing an entire album for the band. But yes, he was disparaged for leaving. Disparaged by some of the band members even.

I also agree with you that definitely would be a double standard if Stevie left the band. She would probably get a lot more backlash.
How so?
There WAS backlash against Lindsey in 1987.
Christine's departure didn't just happen in 1998. She quit touring after 1990 and made it clear she was done on the "Time" album. The point being that Christine was clearly in the process of leaving the industry altogether, not just the band, in 1998. She only did a solo album in 2004 because her nephew initiated the project, and even then she did almost nothing to promote it.
I don't believe Stevie should be crucified at all, but unfortunately she probably would be.
It depends entirely on how she handles it. If she does it in a way that is respectful to the band and the split is as amicable as possible, then she won't be crucified. If it becomes a mini-soap opera, then she'll probably get crucified.
If that is in fact the case.

in retrospect it would have been better to not have booked this tour right away…
I think the tour was ill-conceived, but I don't think it was an either/or proposition. If there had been no tour, Stevie probably still wouldn't have wanted to do an album. It's the process of making an album that she doesn't seem to like, not the time. It's not like it would be as easy to spend one year making an album with FM as it is to spend one year touring. Not to her.

I admire her for being honest about not being on board for a new record and not knowing if she ever will be, instead of giving promises and do things that perhaps she knows will not make her happy and do it just out of duty and not with her heart in the right place.
But beyond a band, it's a business, and if this is the case, she's holding up the business, and now there's an urgency to get an album out.
Because she basically intimated that she would since about 2009.

2. Can they not just go in the studio and get a record done in 2 months? They have a large percentage of it done already.
They could be done even sooner if they wanted.
3. Could it be that Stevie doesn't have any new songs
Even if that's the case, why not find 3 or 4 appropriate covers?
The band should just give her an ultimatum at the end of the tour: You're in or you're out, but we are going ahead with an album. I'll bet she get in the studio in a hurry then.
Or it could further alienate her, and cause whatever (if any) riff to widen. That could seal her fate with the band, something I'm sure keeps Mick awake.

Yes, those were her words. lol
The thing is, she's not keeping FM from doing an album. They are stupid for waiting for her. It's been clear to me that she didn't want to do an album since March and she obviously told the band that before March.
They knew she wouldn't agree to an album. They knew she wasn't being silent about her plans because she assumed everyone knew she was on board or because she was shy and quiet by nature and doesn't like to talk about herself.
There's been a stand off and they should have just gone ahead and recorded an album. What are they waiting for? Either she wouldn't have been on the album or it would be one of those "leave them alone and they'll come home, wagging their tails behind them" kind of deals and she would have joined them at the last minute. But them doing nothing was and is unacceptable. You don't sit around and wait indefinitely when you are seventy years old.
Stevie has said they thought that Christine would change her mind about leaving and that they actually put off SYW for awhile hoping that would be the case. Well, it didn't happen then and there's no room for a similar delay 10 years later, hoping Stevie will change her mind now. They should put out an album and if she wants to record with them in 2017, then that could be the band's swan song, all 5 together. But the idea that if there's no Stevie there's no album right now is outrageous.
Obviously, I wouldn't expect them to tour without her, because they need her for money. But that's not the case with an album. Indeed, her not being on the album would give them something different to talk about in interviews promoting the thing and, for good or bad, could be a focus of the record reviews.
The new thing Mick has been saying about Lindsey releasing a solo album is maddening. Christine and Lindseys' songs need to be released. Together.

I have a theory (and this is JUST my OPINION) but...
Stevie rushed to record and release 24KG before rehearsals to fulfill her final obligation with Warner Brothers. She's made it clear in interviews recently that she wants to be able to record more albums.
Fleetwood Mac does not have a contract with Warner Brothers anymore.
Could it be that she's holding out on telling the band she'll record a new album with them as a "negotiation tactic" with Warners?
Like, if this current tour ends, and Warner Brothers comes courting the band members with a new contract, could it be that Stevie is waiting to tell Warner Brothers, "Yes I will record a new album with Fleetwood Mac, but my terms in doing that requires a new contract with you for my future solo endeavors."
Warners knows a new Fleetwood Mac album WITHOUT Stevie wouldn't sell quite as much as it would WITH her on board. So maybe that's what her thinking is right now?
It's like she knows damn well she wants to record a new album with the Mac (and will), yet she's holding all her cards close and keeping quiet before "renegotiating" with Warner Brothers.
And like I said, just my opinion.
P.S. Oh, and I also agree that this current "cash grab" tour was a HUGE MISTAKE as well!

Let's face it...
If the priority of all members was to do an album, to be creatively active, we would have had an album a long time ago. Lindsey could have very well said to the band that he would not tour if there was no new material. As much as he continues to discuss new songs, he has seemed more than willing to just go and tour the hits (keep in mind, this is the THIRD tour in a row without any new album - the EP hardly qualifies). This is a band that seemed to lose the spark of working in the studio together a long time ago. Yes, Lindsey and Christine have been producing new music and they do seem very happy with how it has been going. However, at the end of the day it seems like a side note to all of the band. Fleetwood Mac will continue to be a greatest hits touring act until they call it a day. I think we will be lucky to get some solo work, but as a band they fully realize that the money is in the touring, and touring behind songs from their heyday (it is quite something to think that the most recent songs featured in the On With The Show tour were written in 1986/1987!).
Don't get me wrong, they still do put on one hell of a rock show. However, from an artistic standpoint, they seem to have lost whatever it is that drove them to write all of the incredible material from their previous studio work (I would argue that they lost it after Tusk, despite some stellar individual tracks from the 80s).

They can't tour and make records as far as she sees it.....they made the decision to tour first, so the Album will have to wait.
Obviously, she doesn't remember recording Rumours and going on the road during breaks in recording sessions. And, the rest of the band obviously has forgotten that they used to "try out" new songs live before tightening them up in the studio (GYOW, YMLF & SotM come to mind right away in that regard).
Lately, I think they've just gotten really full of s**t when it comes to how they run things. They sure know how to ruin the good vibes of Christine's return.

Now, I don't agree about the two solo albums, but I do agree about touring, because they'd want to promote the album somehow live. They might as well do it as two solo performers and save the next FM tour for the "farewell" in 2017 or 2018.

The thing is the others don't need to wait and see how they feel. They can make plans and just stick to them. They want to make an album now and they'll want to then. Honestly I think she just doesn't want to come out and say no. She didn't want to participate earlier this year and instead decided she wanted to record a solo album. At no point has she intimated that she was interested in an album so it's not like well she'd like to now but this darn tour is in the way. If she felt like doing an album in a year she would have to be persuaded of it.
Is there any chance that Stevie's problem is:
(1) she's concerned about her songs being seen as "inferior" to Christine's (as was the general consensus on Tango in the Night) and so she wants to wait until she comes up with some stellar new songs before committing?
Or (2) she is in fact committed to a new Mac album, but is acting indifferent in order to hold out for more money from a prospective label -- like "give me enough cash and I'll hop on board"?

well as Lindsey always likes to point out, there's ALWAYS politics in every freaking decision within FM, so I'm sure some part of this is her leveraging her position to get what she wants, whatever that is (my bet, producer). But it does seem like she feels like she gave up solo work (touring) to support FM this time around and she's not going to do it again

I'd love a Christine/Buckingham Fleetwood Mac album. I'm not sure how any resulting tour would work though- I can envisage it being a bit of an awkward set-up.
Buckingham/Nicks played on the past history/chemistry. Christine/Buckingham have a great working relationship but I'm not sure their music would quite gel together live- there'd be too much of a gap in the middle.
Perhaps it would depend on what the new material is like.

[Christine] only did a solo album in 2004 because her nephew initiated the project, and even then she did almost nothing to promote it.
Is that true? I don't recall ever hearing that it was Dan Perfect who got the ball rolling with In the Meantime.
My recollection is that Christine had written a bunch of songs and felt motivated to put out a low-key, very personal record, and she turned to her nephew for help because he's a musician (in addition to being a visual artist).
I could, however, be wrong about my understanding of how In the Meantime came to be. I'm not claiming any particular knowledge of the circumstances, but I would be interested to know the complete story.

Stevie said in the quote: US, then Australia, then Europe. Why do you think it's going into Oct/Nov?
The interview happened during the FM break recently so she could do the Late Show. So her quote, puts it at same time now, next year:
"This isn't gonna be done until this time next year," Stevie tells ABC News Radio about the prospect of a new Mac album. "So, I don't know how I'm gonna feel in a year."

It may or may not be fair, but if SN refuses to do the album and it becomes a drama, there is a good chance that the backlash will go against her. Whether people agree or not, the most successful/famous artist tends to be the lightning rod, and Americans will see the rest of the band-members as the underdog/the victims of her solo career. It might be hard for her to persuade general/casual fans otherwise, because people tend to not sympathize as much with the successful solo artist in a legacy band.
I think she's always known this, and knowing that FM is the bigger draw, I think that's one reason she's probably always tried to maintain that balance, and always tried to be respectful/gracious to the band. I think her actions going forward, will further reflect that, in my opinion.

I can't imagine that she wouldn't do a new album with Fleetwood Mac. I was very surprised by her comments in the interview. I hope it's a misquote. Christine has come back after all these years and she was/is so happy to have her back. She talked during the Say You Will era about how much she missed Chris. Now that she is back, I can't believe she wouldn't go into the studio with them. Mick says most of the record is done and ready for her. How hard could it be after all these years. I think she will record with them. Maybe the thought of touring again is scaring her, but no one tours as much as she does.

My 2.5 cents:Stevie and The Mac have had alot of animosity between them ever since she worked with Dave Stewart on "In Your Dreams".We've been hearing her say over and over how much fun it was and how it was the "best year of her life",in a round -a- bout way saying that she didn't realize how ****ty it was working with the Mac until she had the "Dave" experience IMO.In the interviews when Chris first mentioned her return,Stevie didn't seem too thrilled about it,almost annoyed actually. In recent interviews she's like yay we got our " dream girl" back but that's all PR bull****.I think Chris's return threw a monkey wrench in all of her plans not to mention her much needed and expected attention has shifted from her to Chris.I really did see a huge intimacy gap in their Philly show, not even smiling at Chris, as I mentioned in a previous post.To me her body language was saying,"I SO don't want to be here".All this is my opinion so don't hate on me please.:shrug:Also,a "whole new chapter" could mean a Stevie-less new record. That sure would qualify as a new chapter!

I'm done with her. Her legacy is ruined for me. Go grab that money Stevie!!!
Yes, because it was all her decision to go on this year long world tour instead of
recording an album for Fleetwood Mac.
She's not being the money grabber in this situation.

But. As Mick and the rest of them know ,she is and always will be the Star Attraction.
Be that as it may, she's NOT bigger than the band.
After almost 40 years of FM why can't Stevie have her songs be the way she wants them instead of the way LB wants them?
She's either in or she's out. She can't be both. Sure, the band doesn't want to play smaller venues. Neither does she. If she wants the status of bandmate, then she is obligated to give them songs (and they don't really even have to be hers). She can't hold them hostage. Not anymore.
That all being said, I think she has every intention of recording with Fleetwood Mac.

Oh if that's the case, im guessing a solo tour promoting 24 Karat Gold is on the horizon then  and if so SHE BETTER COME TO OZ FOR THAT!!! lol
then im guessing a F/Mac album after she is done with her solo duties
I would be more than happy with that scenario to be honest.. :D ;)

I feel like there has to be some angle. The completion of her WB contract with 24KG just seems like it's been talked about a little too much for it not to have some significance.
I'm sure the band won't wait for a contract before recording an album. They've already put in a lot of work without a contract.

That's really not even the point. The band can record whenever, wherever, whatever, and however the hell they want. They could sit around a campfire with a boombox and record something if they wanted to.
It's about how it's going to be released. I'm sure they'd rather deal with WB, the label that has released the vast majority of their albums, over other labels or dealing with an indie release at this point.
Who is currently working an album recently released on WB, while on tour with Fleetwood Mac, NOT touring in support of the album WB has a vested interest in?
Who is playing coy about her future plans, especially now that she has zero obligations?
Why would she rush to record an album of previously recorded demos right before Fleetwood Mac went into rehearsals (it's not like WB was demanding the album be finished before she hit the road with Fleetwood Mac)?
Stevie's totally recording with Fleetwood Mac at some point. This thing going on now is just a game. THIS is the politics Lindsey always bemoans. It gets us all involved, but then they come up with a narrative that unites fans around the project.

But she doesn't have to play all of these games and keep the band hanging if it's only about a record deal and the RELEASE of the album. She can record with the band without any of that settled and after all their record deal doesn't only concern her. They aren't tied to WB either and they legitimately shopped around on the last album too.

Agree 100%. Lindsey and Christine have both been told "you're with us or you're not" at one point or another and now it's Stevie's turn to be told that.
I think the big thing with the backlash against Stevie if she chooses not to record is the timing. When Lindsey left, they were in their 30s and 40s; now it's their 60s and 70s- there's not much time left to hem and haw on these things. And the biggest thing is Christine is back. If Stevie had announced she wanted out after the last tour, hey, all bands come to an end. But now she gets what she's been saying for years that she wanted, and now she's putting on the brakes. That can only make her look bad.
And as for taking a year to record this album? It's already mostly done. All she has to do is give them three songs, put on the backing vocals to Lindsey and Christine's songs, and boom, done. She can even give them three songs she doesn't care that much about if she's worried about what Lindsey's going to do with them. But she's not going to be stuck in a recording studio with them for a year like she was in the 70s.

I don't know about that. It's not business as usual because their time is running out. Does Stevie want to end her career on a positive note or negative note?
Assuming they still have two albums and three years of touring in them (a big assumption on my part, I know), how does that signify the end of her career? Even Mick acknowledges in his book that Stevie will still be going long after the band is over. Fleetwood Mac is a five year plan, Stevie's is a ten year plan (hopefully on both accounts).
My experience is that an album that's finished/mastered in June probably won't see the light of day until January. Of course, I've worked for somebody who typically releases about five albums a year, so that time can be somewhat adjusted. But even 24KG took about four months between being mastered and being released, and don't kid yourself that it wasn't released around the time this tour started. They can finish the album in two months, two weeks of which actually involve Stevie, leaving Stevie that time to do a solo tour and maybe a second 24KG.
Which is why I think it would take less than two months to record eight of Stevie's songs (or songs she could cover) and there could be two more albums. They did eight of Lindsey's songs in six weeks and probably as many of Christine's in eight weeks. Why would it take longer for Stevie's songs, especially since everybody will have been working solidly as a band for over a year by the time they even get back into the studio? This SHOULD be fairly painless as far as Stevie is concerned.

This. It's completely absurd to tour with the band under the moniker of 'On With The Show' if you secretly just want to tour the hits and fizzle out. Her wish came true, Christine came back, it's time to put up or shut up. I didn't buy 24Karat because I'm sorry, as much as a fan I am, stood in line Day 1 at record stores to buy TISL and IYD and bought all 5 albums at once after becoming a fan of the Mac, I'm not buying into the selfish crap. And there's no bias here, if I'd been a Mac fan in 87 (wasn't born yet) I would've crucified Lindsey for leaving too.
Sure, my anger will subside eventually but it just pisses me off to no end. She released an album of basically subpar material, crap that wasn't even good enough to make her other albums in the first place and stuff she forgot about long ago. Yes, some of it turned out great. That's awesome. But Christine rejoined the band. The miracle of all miracles happened. The one thing we fans never truly thought would ever happen unless Hell froze over happened. If the band has already recorded material, we know damn well there's a 90% chance they mean to finish that material and make a record so the "no clue where our mindframes will be" is bull crap. As long as the money is there, I'm sure she'd put up with the rest of the band pushing her down a flight of freakin' stairs.
She either needs to commit 100% or get out. Like the Lindsey quotes that circulated about Christine, she needed to either be in 100% or not come back, she can't just come and go as she pleases. Same can be said to Stevie. She's by far the most accomplished member outside of this band. She has one of the most legendary solo female rock albums of all time (imo) and so many Billboard hits and critically acclaimed albums. 24 Karat, in a sense, acts as a great way to put a stamp on that career so why the hell not give the Mac the same courtesy? What more as a solo act does she possibly think she can achieve? If she wants a major hit record, her best chance is with the Mac. If she's still determined on digging around for scraps because she just can't write a hit song anymore, she has plenty to give the Mac. No need to be greedy because I sure as hell ain't buying 5 volumes of Songs from the Vault.

And I'm disgusted at how manipulative some fans are? - downgrading an album because they want her to record with Fleetwood Mac, trying to apply peer pressure to a 66 year old woman... She probably would record with Fleetwood Mac if they didn't want to chain her down with another tour. Touring is probably the biggest problem -- it's a time hog.
I think Lindsey and Christine should just put out an album without Stevie and let her finish the solo albums she clearly wants to do.

Poor woman. It's a shame she has to choose between stronger album sales and sold-out tours or a mediocre solo career. The burden of having to make so much money by doing so little while getting that much adulation must be a real bitch.

Great post/rant!
I assumed her excitement of having Christine in the band had more to do with collaborating on new music with her. I understand that Stevie has the right to make her own decisions. But I find her to be very selfish. Fleetwood Mac was never looking for her in the first place; she was just an adjunct of Lindsey. I acknowledge she gave the band an added appeal. But she owes a lot of her solo career success to the band.
Her ambivalence to a new Fleetwood Mac album, knowing that Lindsey and Christine have already done extensive work on it is very disconcerting and insulting. Now I'm beginning to think that Lindsey and Christine go forward and release the album without Stevie, unless they get a commitment from her. They shouldn't have to wait for her beck and call. I bet their album will have more market appeal than her recent album.
All the excuses that Stevie doesn't trust that Lindsey is going to produce them the way she wants is just bull****. He produced her songs in Fleetwood Mac that made it possible for her to establish her solo career. She may have not liked the approach he took with songs on Say You Will, but that shouldn't warrant a complete dismissal of his abilities.
As others have said, if Stevie becomes the roadblock that stymies the last album the Rumours era band could have made, it will be a big blemish on her reputation. After all, she isn't even doing the heavy work the rest of the band is doing; most that falls on Lindsey, and the other musicians. Yet, Stevie gets to wear the crown.

Totally agree with everything you said. Besides she hasn't exactly said no to it.

Great post, You hit the point. If they really want to put out a new album, they could do it - with or without Stevie.
For me, this ‘On With The Show’-Tour is all wrong. When Christine announced her comeback, the next logical step had to be a new album. The timing would have been perfect. Both Stevie and Lindsey had recently released critical acclaimed new albums, they both seemed to get along quite well during the 2012/13 tour and Christine’s return would have aroused huge media interests. Instead they all preferred to hit the road again for yet another greatest hits tour and grab the big cash.
I doubt that it was only Stevie’s decision. Are we sure about Mick’s position? No matter what he said in recent interviews, I think that he wanted to make as much money as soon as possible out of Christine’s return. Making a new record first, would have meant delay and costs with unsure prospects in terms of sales. Furthermore they all are at an age where no one can tell, what will be in a year, just think of John’s cancer. So, from a financial point of few, the tour was the next logical step, but a step that clearly showed that they days of Fleetwood Mac as a creative power are over. Recording an album after the tour makes for me no sense at all and I doubt that it will happen.
Exactly! I totally understand Stevie’s point of few. Christine’s return overthrew all her plans. She had to release 24KaratGold in a hurry and she couldn’t promote it properly. In addition, it seems that the tensions between the band members are running high again. No wonder, she's not that euphoric about FM right now. Beside that, I still believe that the ambitions for a new album amongst the other band members are not that high, especially regarding Mick and John. Lindsey and Christine are probably ready to record again. If that's the case, it's their part to convince the others and bring them on board.
I can't blame Stevie for not wanting to record a new FM album. She's been pretty consistent since the 80s about her stance that recording with FM is a singularly off-putting experience. She just doesn't like it. Which is fair enough. But I agree that this waffling position of "oohhh I don't knowwww maybeee" is pretty charmless. It reminds me of about ten years ago whenever she was asked about putting out a new solo album, which we've now discovered she really had no intention whatsoever of doing at that time.
However, she's certainly not the only one to blame for the frustration here. The entire band clearly views the situation as very delicate, because this lineup has become so established and revered. They all wish things were different in some way or another, but what they do do satisfies each of them at least enough that they keep trucking along as they are. Nobody really wants to mix things up this late in the game. Band members can leave, and they can be kicked out, it happens all the time. But it's clear that neither of those things are going to happen here.

As long as the band continues to tolerate her non participation ( in the studio ) Stevie will continue to do as she pleases... I highly doubt FM will fire Stevie Nicks and commit financial suicide.

Most of the heavy work falls on Lindsey and the other musicians? Are you just referring to the fact that they are playing instruments and Stevie is not? Because if you think that it is easy or no work to be the lead singer and put that kind of pressure on your voice doing vocals/harmonies on 20 songs during a 2,5 hour show then you are wrong!!
In that persepctive she is under even MORE pressure than the rest of the band due to the fact that her voice is her ONLY instrument.
*shrugs* Stevie often talks about how she was left idle for long periods of Fleetwood Mac's recording sessions because she "isn't a musician". Those are her own words, and they are the truth. She simply isn't a core force in the band's sound and music because she isn't a musician. The other members are. That's not to say she doesn't work damn hard, it's just a reality of her job which she is very matter-of-fact about. It was a perfectly fair comment for PenguinHead to make.

Stevie didn't ask Lindsey and Christine to start working on a new record so u can't hold that over her head. The blemish of the successfulness is on Lindsey and Chris. They broke up the group.
I'm sorry, what now? Four fifths of the band wanted to make an album, four fifths of the band seems to have no problem getting along, but they're responsible for breaking up the band?

This is quite different. This wasn't just minus Christine, this was also minus Lindsey and Stevie, all three lead singers that were responsible for the hits. Without Stevie would they have to tour smaller arenas? Sure. Would they become someone else's opening act? No way. Christine's responsible for most of their hits and Lindsey's more popular now than he's been in years. He's working with younger artists, his last album charted as high as Go Insane, etc. They'll be just fine.

Stevie's not the only lead singer. Christine and Lindsey have always had more songs per album than she has in addition to playing instruments (plus the producing work Lindsey does), so more work definitely falls on them.

It's more like Stevie will be committing financial suicide. If she blows this, she'll be back to doing package tours with Rod Stewart, while 4/5 of the classic Mac could still do smaller arenas on their own.

Yeeeah. Isn't it a little odd to be talking about any of the band members committing "financial suicide"? None of them are exactly paycheques away from a life on the street. No, it's the reality of the situation. Stevie is in the band or she is not. She does not have to do anything further with Fleetwood Mac if she doesn't want to. She doesn't have to let Lindsey come anywhere near her songs.
However, the band has the right to ask her to leave if she's not going to be a team player. Stevie, with Christine returning, doesn't really have the leverage she once had. With 4/5 of the classic band back together, the band could be viable without her. She's really in no position to string them along anymore.
Stevie needs to understand that there will be consequences if she chooses to not be a team player. People pointing out those consequences aren't being bullies. It's not peer pressure, it's business. The reality is that her career will suffer as much as, if not more than the band's.

Fair enough and you are right it is a fair comment to make. I should have been a little more precise.... I was mostly thinking about the period of time since Christine left the band and I am not saying that Stevie is the ONLY lead singer... But, in my opinion, since Christine left FM has put out ONE studio album (not counting the EP) but done several tours and taking that into consideration I still don't think Stevie is less worthy "wearing the crown" than anyone else. That is my opinion.
Can't help but wonder what the reactions would have been if it were Lindsey not wanting to put out an album.....

What if Christine and Lindsey stand their ground and Mick has to decide between doing a new album and tour and that Stevie is in or she's not, or they walk? Which would he choose, a Stevie-less Fleetwood Mac that still has Christine McVie and Lindsey Buckingham or no Fleetwood Mac?

Probably the same, especially since they've had to go there with Lindsey before. Lindsey has been told he's either in the band or he's not before, and the band threatened to use another producer in 1986 when he was stonewalling on doing TITN.

This situation is different, though, hence people's frustrations. They could've given Stevie a similar ultimatum long ago, but they're not playing it that way and they simply won't. So we get stuck with a lot of "Oh hmm well we'll see I guess" from everyone. I'd really just like an actual answer so I can be excited about something.

Of course not, she has them by the balls. If Stevie isn't part of it, LB will just release more solo stuff. I'm guessing being a guest on LB's solo album would be enough to satisfy Chris.
If Stevie wants a new album, it'll happen, but until then it's still born.

Could they have? This tour is establishing that Christine is back in the band for good. Without THAT being established first, the band really had no leverage with Stevie. Now that the public knows Christine is back, and has responded overwhelmingly to her return, Stevie leaving wouldn't be a fatal blow to the band's viability.
Do you think Lindsey really wants to do a FM album without Stevie?
There's a difference between wanting to do something and being willing to do something. I think Lindsey would prefer to do a FM with Stevie, but would still do one without her.
Of course not, she has them by the balls.
Not really. The band could easily go on as a quartet with only two of the three writers from the classic band, like they did when Christine was out of the band. Between Christine and Lindsey, it would be easy to replace Stevie's songs in the set (probably with new material). Lindsey's preference has always been for Fleetwood Mac to release new music, and now he has a partner in that.

Totally agree with everything you said. Besides she hasn't exactly said no to it.
Her 'not exactly saying no to it', is part of the problem. When four people are trying to plan their lives and careers around your participation, you don't keep them dangling on a string. The others have been waiting and seeing what she's going to do since early this year.
You don't really want me, you just keep me hanging on ....
Stevie sounded ok when she sang that song, but you really shouldn't make it your personal motto.
But it comes down to their not letting her do this to them. I don't know how much money they're making this tour. I have to believe it's $5,000,000 to $10,000,000 each. They've profitted hugely already and don't need to fear alienating her. If that's not enough to get them to take a stand against this stonewalling, then they're getting just what they deserve.
They need to proceed without her and then look her up in 2017 and see if she wants to go on tour.

Right, everyone wants to do an FM album with her. That's been established already and Lindsey has said he's wanted to do that since he got off of the SYW tour. Desire hasn't gotten him very far. Christine's return gives him a new opportunity to do an album, as part of a new quartet. Hey, he'd have more songs on it. That certainly shouldn't be a turn off to him.
Stevie will be mad for a year or two, but I'm sure she'd get over it and then they could all do a whole batch of interviews about their reconciliation and put a new spin on this prolific, profound and tired story.

Subpar material? Crap? That may be your opinion, which you're entitled to of course, but....

Huh? No, she's been stringing the band along. She's refused to do a Fleetwood Mac album since 2009. In fact all she has contributed to Fleetwood Mac since 2003 was a 40-year old Buckingham Nicks outtake. She said something along the lines that the only way she would ever record with Fleetwood Mac again was if Christine was back in the band, because "we tried it without Christine, and it didn't work" (or something like that). Stevie even offered Christine $5 million to rejoin, calling Fleetwood Mac a "wasteland" without her. Now Christine is back. There's only one way for this to end in Stevie's favor. (I suspect she's working on that.)
She doesn't want to do the album.
And you're absolutely sure about this? It couldn't possibly be a political game that involves the Stevie, the band and WB? That being said, even if she really didn't want to do the album, then she's either in or she's out. Those were the rules clearly stated under no uncertain terms to Lindsey and to Christine, and with Christine back, those rules also now apply to Stevie. The band can relevantly function without her now. There's no bullying or pressuring. That's a very consistent position on the band's part. My hunch is she understands that.

I want to agree with this, but I have a friend who releases 5-6 albums a year, so I'm not at all impressed that Stevie "CONSTANTLY writes" as an argument for 24KG. She could have released most of these songs over the years as b-sides, EPs, live cuts, etc. She FORGOT about most of them and had to use YouTube to find them.
Was "Silver Springs" crap? It didn't make it on to Rumours.
But, it WAS released. It was a b-side to GYOW in 1977, was on the box set, and has been included on various "expanded editions" of "Rumours." THE only reason it got axed is that Stevie refused to prune it down so it would fit the time constraints of vinyl, THE major medium at that time. She won the battle but lost the war.
Stevie will be on this album. Anyone that has followed this band over the years knows that it is going to happen. This is the same BS that was circulating before Tango came out. Stevie is not going to let a FM album to be released without her being very much a part of it. Tango was a huge hit and she had very little presence on it, she is not going to let this happen again.........and most likely this will be their last studio album.

You overlooked a certain bit, namely this;
"Yes, some of it turned out great. That's awesome."
However my comment still stands; this is subpar material she skimped over for years as b-sides, soundtrack releases, even boxsets like Enchanted or collections such as Timespace or Crystal Visions. They are and were subpar material that she either made meh or great.
Plus, most of these songs she completely forgot about, I'm sure. She would, however, never forget the Silver Springs fiasco for even a day.

Be that as it may, it still doesn't change the fact that Stevie will look like an ass and hypocrite if she refuses to record with the band after saying the only way she'd ever do it is if Christine came back. Well, Christine is back now. Stevie said during the press for SYW that they couldn't let Christine record with them because they couldn't take the chance that one of her songs would be a hit, and Christine wouldn't be there to play it. In other words, Stevie was saying if Christine wanted to record with the band she had tour. Why would they now change the rules of the game to appease Stevie?
It could end in Stevie's favor if she just said NO. She has earned the right.
But she hasn't earned the right to play by a different set of rules that were established for Lindsey and Christine. She is either in the band or she isn't. If she DECIDES she's in, then she has to record. If she DECIDES not to record, then she has DECIDED she's NOT in the band. Big solo career aside, she's a member of the band, and has responsibilities to the band if she DECIDES to stay.

I think Lindsey and Christine should make the best quartet album they can come up with, then let the old dingbat bring in 2-3 of her songs at the last minute.
This really seems like the most likely scenario we'll end up with, for all everyone's waffling and speculation. The album will fit nicely along side Tango and the EP as a bit of a headscratcher for Stevie fans, but still be called "Fleetwood Mac" with no footnote about lineup changes, and everyone will be (sort of) happy.

Thanks to several kind ledgies who provided ticket information yesterday, I managed to get a good floor ticket for 22nd June in London.
Before buying this ticket I had bought one for the 28th May London - Section A1 Row T. Although I would love to see both shows, I've decided I don't want to do 2 journeys (it's quite a way from here), so if anyone else would like this ticket can you send me a PM and I'll sell it at face value £140. Otherwise I'll try the re-sale sites.
Thanks :)

...but the problem is I think they are already at the last minute. Sounds like they got a lot done on Lindsey's/Christine's material. I'm sure they've still got some mixing to do but I reckon they could have probably put out an album this side of Christmas if they really wanted to (probably wanted it out even before now)...but they are holding out in hope.

She can spin this however she wants but I speculate that this all comes down to how she feels about Lindsey at the end of the tour and how he feels about handing over control of her songs to someone else. I don't get her giving up a year to make an album remark considering she whipped out 24k in just a few months. Granted, those songs were already written so maybe she would want to take time to write new songs. Idk. This band is so frustrating but when it manages to all comes together (which is rare), it's amazing.

Sometimes I wonder just how much they all communicate with each other when on tour. There's no doubt that Mick, Lindsey and Christine probably chat but does Stevie actually participate in any off stage communication with them? I only say this because of her "taking a year" to record. Is she unaware that they have been working for months well before the tour started? Does she have any idea at all as to what's already been done?
This is all starting to remind me of Neil Young behavior. Infamously refusing to do projects because "the muse" isn't there. Keeping Buffalo Springfield, CSN, or Crazy Horse in the weeds...sometimes for years...until "he feels like it" or backing out of projects when the rest of the group has already begun work.

I will have to say, on the flip side in a major defense to Neil Young. Money has never been a motivation in his actions. He seems very sincere in only doing what he really wants to do. Yes, that kind of contradicts my previous comment.
Nobody in FM really needs the money, yet every day it seems to be more and more about the money.

One has to wonder how much pressure the machine that surrounds FM ( agents, managers, promoters, accountants and the list goes on) puts on the band to be profitable instead of being artistic? And how much pressure is put on the band to play the same old hits because that is when they are most profitable.

I totally agree and it seems so absurd. We love you Stevie, but the odds of you having some crazy national hit single is pretty much out the window.
They are one of the FEW remaining bands that still have ALL original members intact and performing together. They have the luxury of moving forward to new things without the backlash of doing an album or a tour without all of the original members. The hits will always be a huge part of who shows up every night - but that doesn't have to be the only lasting part of their story/legacy.
A while back, somebody here posted that they knew somebody who knew somebody at WB and they said every single decision with Fleetwood Mac involves teams of lawyers and it's literally the single biggest pain in the a** for everyone. The people who manage that end of it absolutely loathe it.

I find this whole thing ridiculous. Stevie always says how grateful she is to have Fleetwood Mac and how she can't believe the sizes of their audiences and now she's debating whether or not she should participate in the new album?
People who aren't hardcore Fleetwood Mac fans would just think 'Where the hell is Stevie Nicks?' I'm sure the songs that they've recorded are great but Stevie has to contribute as that's what make the band great, the fact that they all combine so well.
If Stevie chooses not to be involved in this album then she is stupid. Whether she wants to or not she should, and then she can do her SFTV2 whenever she has a couple of months free and then she can tour when the band's done.
Fleetwood Mac need to come first, not Stevie's solo career because that can wait. GET INVOLVED STEVIE!!!

Have you been living in a cave for the past year? Stevie did put FM first by doing a rush job on 24K so the FM tour could happen she could have easily said "We can tour after I wrap up this record for WB" and taken her time doing so...Why should Stevie be the only one who has to let her songs be trampled upon...LB gets to have his song be the way he wants them and so does CM so why should Stevie's songs be any different? If Stevie want's to be the producer on her songs let her do so.

Though Stevie has committed to Fleetwood Mac, it sounds to me as though they're a little fed up with her. It sounds harsh but I get that feeling, especially from Mick and Lindsey. Mick sounds fed up with Stevie's solo career and Lindsey just wants her to contribute to the album whatever happens. I don't think John or Christine have much of an opinion.
Mick always sounds flippant in interviews regarding what she's doing and I think he just wants her to be 100% involved with Fleetwood Mac. When she has the ability to produce a top 10 album in a couple of months then in Stevie's mind, that certainly isn't the case!

That's the saddest thing of all for me. It sounds like Stevie hasn't had any interest in or even heard the songs Lindsey, Christine, Mick and John recorded together. Lindsey has been talking about them getting an outside producer for YEARS now and that talk has been to accommodate Stevie's need to have him away from her songs. Your claim that Lindsey is insisting on producing her songs himself seems about 30 years old. He didn't use Froom because he fell in love with him. He used him to try to coax Stevie to work with someone else on FM songs, if she didn't want to work with him.
I think he realized that she needed someone from outside ever since her reaction to his work on SYW was so negative. He knew if he wanted to work with her after that, he would need a buffer and he talked about being open to that and even named possible outside producers, including Dave Stewart.

Well, I think their music tastes are so divergent that they don't share a lot. But if they appreciated each other's sound more they would.
I mean, Stevie and Lindsey have talked about each other's last solo albums (before 24K) but I think they did it out of courtesy to the other, not out of passion for the music. Musically, I think they might have more interest in discussing third parties, like Bob Dylan. I mean, Lindsey talked about listening to a Dylan album with Kristen and crying and assuming that Stevie had her own view of that album, I'm sure that she and Lindsey could have a concrete discussion about that, but not so much about either of their own music.
Christine probably doesn't even like Lindsey's music on Tusk, so she's sure not wanting to talk to him about Go Insane. And I think Meantime would give him ideas for new work with Christine, but I don't think he'd like the album on its own terms. Yes, I get what you say about sharing other music. As far as each others' music I do think its a bit different with 24K Gold. Many of those songs could have been Fleetwood Mac songs so they'd probably recall a few. I just think it would be natural conversation to bring them up 'oh I remember we worked a bit on such and such song- I like what you did with the arrangement on it' etc (and I can only imagine them rushing to hear what the album sounded like out of curiosity). If they don't talk much about Stevie's album then it must make for a tense atmosphere- for Lindsey & Chris there's an elephant in the room that they probably want to talk about but at the same time maybe don't want to talk about.

Well, I see what you mean. Stevie did say she had a similar conversation with Lindsey working on TISL and he told her that John Shanks had really nailed a song that had eluded producers (including himself) for years.

But why hasn't she heard them? This is her band. This is a band she's been associated with for nearly 40 years. She may have been busy at the time when she was in Nashville but surely as soon as she is remotely able to get a chance she'd be desperate to hear what her band-mates have come up with. Wouldn't a human's natural sense of curiosity dictate that?
She's had plenty of time now so if she still hasn't said 'right, lets hear what you've got' then it fuels the suggestion she just isn't interested in doing an album. For her to listen to what they've done sucks her in an makes it more difficult for her to distance herself.

This sounds like a pretty accurate description of everyone, but I feel like they would get along tremendously better if they were more open about each other's musical endeavors. On the other hand, I think Stevie and Lindsey are so headstrong, that discussing each other's albums could be a point of contention. Honestly though, it would help stimulate the creative process and help them plan out another album with input from several different sources instead of just Lindsey's. I think a diverse range of inspiration from each individual member could be beneficial.

I'm still wondering how Lindsey liked Stevie's version of 'Crash', considering he seems to like Dave Matthews and saw him live last year. And I'm still VERY amused that the official Stevie Nicks account follows a singer from The Dirty Projectors, when they're one of Lindsey's favoured modern bands.
As for their solo albums, Stevie usually frames her comments about Lindsey listening to hers with a 'he likes it' or 'he'll like it' 'because the songs are about him!'. I think she also still sometimes seeks validation and approval for him.
"Lindsey heard Trouble in Shangri-la, and he said, ‘I think it’s the best thing you’ve ever done,’” says Nicks. “That’s about the nicest thing he’s ever said to me. You know, he’s never really acknowledged my solo career. I think maybe he respects me a little more now - maybe he’s finally proud of me."
Really, though, there are two moments in particular I seriously wish I'd been around to see...
Jim: “How are your buddies in Fleetwod Mac doing?”
Stevie: “They’re good. Lindsey’s finished a record that is, I think, amazing. I think it’s the best thing that he’s ever done. And it’s so interesting because last November when he came up to work on ‘Soldier’s Angel ‘- which is the last thing that we really did - we played him my record, and he played the Dave and Stevie world and Glen Ballard his record. So we listened to both records in a row. At the end, Lindsey was sitting on one side of me, I was in the middle and Glen was here, and Dave was walking around with his guitar around his neck. And Glen just jumped up and said, “Oh my god, you guys are on fire! You have both made an amazing record in the same year!” Of course, I’m going like “Please god, let me love this record.” Because I’m sitting here next to Lindsey, he knows me so well.. if I don’t love this record, I’m gonna go like “Well, I…” you know? And I swear to god I think that Lindsey like swallowed some melody pills and some lyrical pills, because all of a sudden along with his amazing bombastic guitar that he plays are these really beautiful words and beautiful melodies. I’m so very proud of him. So the Fleetwood Mac gang is fine. John’s in Honolulu, Micks’ in Maui . Lindsey here, getting ready to release this record and working on it. So you know, it’s good."
And:
"These [Planets of the Universe] are some of the meanest lyrics I have ever written. I started trying to record this song in the early seventies, but we just couldn’t seem to capture it as a Fleetwood Mac song. Something was always missing. Many years passed, and though I didn’t hold out much hope, I tried to record the song once again for Trouble In Shangri-La, which was produced by Sheryl Crow and John Shanks. I will be eternally grateful to John, who helped find the missing piece that added the magic the song needed. Ironically, at the first playback for Trouble In Shangri-La, Lindsey went up to John and said, ‘Wow, I’m blown away. You actually captured this song that Stevie’s been singing for as long as I can remember.’"
She's always liked his melodies, though.
"[Lindsey will] have all these beautiful songs that are instrumentals for months. They have gorgeous melodies, layer upon layer of guitars. I exercise to his tapes, practice ballet to them." [1981]

I just heard on the radio that Band Aid is back recording a new version of 'Do they know it's Christmas' for the Ebola crisis.
http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/band-aid-30-stars-arrive-to-start-recording-do-they-know-its-christmas-for-ebola-crisis-9862938.html
It would be a nice thing if FM could to join this historic event. It would be great to hear the Mac in the mix of others.
Was Linds involve with the last recording of Band Aid or it was USA for Africa. My memory went blank.

Maybe she originally told them no and it is them who got her to kick the can instead of taking no for answer. No means no.

You make it sound like rape. This in no way parallels an abusive relationship.
This is a business first and foremost. If she CHOOSES to be a member of Fleetwood Mac, she has to tour and record with them. It's her JOB that she has VOLUNTARILY CHOSEN to do, for which she gets paid handsomely. I'd like to know of ANY other job where people can refuse to do certain aspects of their job description and not be fired.

no they didn't.
we don't know that Christine was in Nashville; seems that one tweet claiming they saw her on the plane to Nashville may have been misinfo.
remember, Mick was talking about it after it was all over the social media (and not by some random person on twitter but by DS) that SN was in Nashville... not before she went.
Actually it was a Ledgie who went to meet Mick at some meet and greet he was doing (I forget what for) and the Ledgie asked Mick what Stevie was doing and Mick let it out of the bag that she was recording a solo album in Nashville and that "we hope"[Mick's words] that it'll be just 2 weeks or something along those lines.

This raises a point. Nicks said around the time of SYW that Christine had indicated a willingness to record with the band but not tour, and that this couldn't work because "what if one of her songs is a hit"? At the time I remember thinking, "y'all could use a hit, so I wouldn't look askance at that whether McVie is touring or not!" but I got the point of it.
So if Nicks felt then that being in the band required touring, I don't see how she can feel now that being in the band doesn't also require recording. Her only out is that "albums don't sell" but heck, that hasn't stopped her from putting out solo albums, thankfully.
So I don't think this is about Nicks not wanting to record with Mac ever again, I think its all about timing: She wants to tour to support 24KG, and doing an album with Mac will kill that idea.

24 K gold will long be forgotten when they get off the road. A good album but its not going to sell these days. A new Mac album with all 5? Will sell more then ANY of them solo and that includes Stevie. Stevie has cemented her legacy with two good new solo albums in her 60's. Now it's time to cement the bands legacy that made her famous. FM cannot go out as just an oldies, cash grab act. If they had a great new album (even if it didn't sell) it would be a fitting and triumphant end to this band. But she's being selfish because she doesn't like the way her songs come out with Lindsey. Is she forgetting Gypsy, Sara, Dreams, Gold Dust woman and an F load of others? Is she basing their whole future on Say You will? Lindsey's solo work has been great lately. This new album would be fantastic and I have no doubt Lindsey would be highly motivated to make her songs great. I am bitterly disappointed at Miss Naracissanicks. BTW Lindsey had his hands full with her Tango songs...did the best he could but due to the drugs her songs were sub par.

24k will be a year old (or a little more) by then… it will have sold whatever it's going to sell by then. A tour is NOT going to make or break that album. You can argue that this current Mac tour killed her momentum on 24k but not recording a Mac album in late 2015 after they've had a short time to recuperate from the tour and then releasing that Mac album (realistically) in the first or second quarter of 2016. By then (2016) 24k will be long dead in the water and be part of her back catalog.

I'm not convinced this is all about Lindsey being producer. He's on record saying an outsider would make things easier for him, and he even mentioned Dave Stewart by name. It would be silly not to let her have her own producer if that's what she wants. I'm thinking something else is being negotiated; perhaps, as someone suggested, it's a new solo deal.
BTW Lindsey had his hands full with her Tango songs...did the best he could but due to the drugs her songs were sub par

That's what I mean. I think Nicks wanted to tour summer 2015 behind 24KG, while the band wants to go into the studio and finish the album. That's where the conflict originally was. The fact that she's been saying recently she's committed to Mac through 2015 is what makes me think she will do the album.

It never seems to sink in that this not about sales. Using that arguement is lame. A Fleetwood Mac album sell more but it will struggle to go gold and probably will not peak at number one. It's not going to make them money.
As far as 24k gold is concerned, it is a great entry into her album history and most people who pick it up WITHOUT bias or anger will really like it and she will gain fans.
Her decision needs to be based on artistry.

I would just like to say that I like Stevie's music with the mac and solo but she is a major diva with control issues. She is seriously going to **** on Chris coming back and not participate on an album? Just to show how important she is to the band.
I just watched the In Your Dreams Documentary and she did the same thing to Dave as Mick telling them how to play their parts and how not to play their parts. And she said and told Dave, I alienated Lindsey from my project for telling me how to write. So it's funny the issue she has with Lindsey everyone around her graciously just does as they are told to appease the queen BEE eeeeeep.
Just saying control issues. I love what Dave Stewart did with some of the songs but he was held in check too. I just would think that at this point in her life, she would have grown up a bit and lived for more than her own selfish interests.
What about the legacy of the band. I'm sure she will come around and this is just a I can act out and show how much I control.

hahaha agreed! She's has had plenty of opportunity to work on her solo career in the time since Say You Will (which she has done).
It may not be what she had planned, but she should know more than anyone that things change and maybe this is a fantastic opportunity. Not only for her own artistry and legacy, but the band that made her a legend.
But if it comes down to the wire and her heart still isn't in it...then I guess I don't want her to participate. I don't want her to half ass it and then blame Lindsey when she's not happy with the end results.

In reality we do not know what is going on behind the scenes among the 5. Stevie is really the one who wears her heart on her sleeve, says what's she is feeling (showing it in facial gestures, tone, etc.). Perhaps she is a bit jealous; she was the only female energy for so long, it may be hard to get used to. Stevie has never been one to hold back, Chris and Lindsey on the other hand, know how to hold their tongue, choose their words, and are a PR's dream. 35 sum years has taught them well! Stevie is an easy target because yes, without a doubt she is ego-centrical and self absorbed, (which rock star/ artist isn't) but most of all, because she puts herself out there to be analyzed. For this, I am grateful, she is authentic. Love her or hate her, she is who she is.

On that I agree. However, she owes them a definitive answer at some point. It's pointless now, since they're booked at least until the end of June, with very little time off.
well, maybe Lindsey decides to shed some light on what is currently going on with the album in the upcoming interview with David Wild http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showpost.php?p=1153880&postcount=1
