View Full Version : Nicks says she doesn't know whether she'll ever be on board with new FM album
Again the band is spending at least a few hours a day together...The four need to stand in front of Stevie and say "We're making as record you are either in or you're not and we need an answer yes or no and we want it NOW"
and you know they are not doing exactly this how?
but yeah i do agree with you, as you know - at some point they need to stop taking stalling or whatever she is giving them for an answer and kick her out. as Mick said to Lindsey and as Lindsey said to Christine - either you are in or you are out. plain and simple.
we've been waiting for this album for the last 5 years.... should have had 2-3 new albums out by now. time to release it!
if SN gets back on board and wants back in later, they can renegotiate, like they did with others. or not. time is running out.
hahaha agreed! She's has had plenty of opportunity to work on her solo career in the time since Say You Will (which she has done).
It may not be what she had planned, but she should know more than anyone that things change and maybe this is a fantastic opportunity. Not only for her own artistry and legacy, but the band that made her a legend.
But if it comes down to the wire and her heart still isn't in it...then I guess I don't want her to participate. I don't want her to half ass it and then blame Lindsey when she's not happy with the end results.
agree, completely!
and, half ass was exactly what happened with the EP, and look at all the hate for it on these boards, regardless of the great reviews it received everywhere else.

Closer to the time when they'll actually be able to go into the studio
They're almost eight months out from completing the dates that are currently scheduled. There could be more. But, they realistically don't have time between now and then to go into the studio, so why press the issue now?

Y'all are getting yourselves worked up into such a rage over this, and nearly all of it is completely speculative. No one knows what Nicks thinks, or what the band is thinking, other than:
1. We have great songs we want to put out. We hope Stevie will join in. (band)
2. I'm not sure how I'll feel about doing a Mac record after the tour. (Nicks)
That's really ALL we know. We don't know a thing about Nicks supposedly peeved about McVie "stealing the spotlight," or that she's "ungrateful" to the band, or anything at all like that.

What exactly will they be doing April and May? Yes they need to recuperate but they don't need that long. It would be an ideal opportunity to spend time in the studio. Problem is, by the sounds of it Christine & Lindsey don't need to spend much time in the studio. Sounds like what they've done is done.

I'm sure it's been mentioned, but maybe they're working this all up themselves?
Maybe they want to get the fans and press interested again by making it seem like Stevie's not sure about the album to stir up some controversy. Besides, what is FM without a little controversy? ;)
Everyone freaks out about the possibility there won't be a new album for a few months and then BAM - > they surprise everyone with an announcement. Stevie agrees to record, Christine is still back, they bring in Rick Rubin, etc. etc. Later there's a tease of them recording on instagram. Before you know it there's a ton of hype.

" No new music" and the she started recording a solo record and took 3 yes three years off from FM if history repeats its self that puts the next Mac outing in 2019.

That seems to be all Dave Stewarts doing so unless he is playing a major role in the next FM record I don't see any of that happening

or Nicks can be thrown out this year and we can have several FM albums in fast succession, with or without tours. it is very clear now to anybody who wants to use their brain she has been stalling them since SYW (possibly even since her first solo album).
of course i need Linds back solo asap, but he seems to be determined to see through what he started with Chris... and Mick and John. seems like a good idea.

And have them loose out on the rest ( 2015) of the "Christine's back super mega cash grab never ending oldies tour"... Mick will never let that happen. I wonder what "Plan B" is should one of them quit or be fired during a tour.

They'll each probably take a month off, followed by a week of practicing on their own and a week or two full band rehearsals, and will get to Europe a week or so before the shows start to adjust to the different time and to maybe get another rehearsal or two in.
It would be an ideal opportunity to spend time in the studio. Problem is, by the sounds of it Christine & Lindsey don't need to spend much time in the studio. Sounds like what they've done is done.
It sounded to me like there was more work to be done, especially on the vocals on Christine's songs. Right after a tour is probably the worst time to add vocals.

Eh, I can't agree with this. Lindsey was the one who asked for three years off after SYW to focus on his solo work.
Stevie, at least from 1981-1990, seemed to do a good job of balancing the band and her solo career. Lindsey more than anybody was the reluctant one, to the point where Mick threatened to use an outside producer.
All of that being said, I think Stevie has been the one stalling the band since 2009, and her ego has definitely gotten bigger since the reunion.

Eh, I can't agree with this. Lindsey was the one who asked for three years off after SYW to focus on his solo work.
true, forgot about that!
i was thinking of DR doc where Lindsey was talking about FM album, than a tour, than another FM album, and another tour.... so his initial plan didn't seem to be solo after the SYW tour, but somebody must have disagreed with another FM album and a tour, back to back, no? so maybe that's when he decided he wants a preset timeframe so that it's not "you do or you don't" with the band? hard to tell. all we know was his initial plans in DR doc (which sounded eerily similar to the beginning of this tour and long profound chapter in FM with albums and tours back to back.... the man never learns it seems?), and then that he asked for 3 years for solo.
Stevie, at least from 1981-1990, seemed to do a good job of balancing the band and her solo career. Lindsey more than anybody was the reluctant one, to the point where Mick threatened to use an outside producer.
i don't know who's too blame but 2 albums in 9 years for the band in their prime is hardly any output.
All of that being said, I think Stevie has been the one stalling the band since 2009, and her ego has definitely gotten bigger since the reunion.
yeah that's been very clear. whether it is because she doesn't have any inspiration to write new music, doesn't have any interest to work with the band members, or wants to secure her solo legacy not as a part of the band, is unclear, but obviously other than repeated cash grabs she has no interest in any creativity with the band.

Or they continue the tour as a 4 piece ( or hire an extra vocalist and probably someone to take Lori's and Sharon's places)...LB quit right before the "Tango" tour started and they didn't cancel any dates he was replaced and the band continued on.

He asked for 3 years off when it was obvious there was no album to do with FM. I believe his initial hope was to go right into another album after that tour. Lindsey's 3 years included 2006,2007 and 2008. He released albums in 2006 and 2008. The Say You Will tour ended in September 2004.

Right. He had said that as far as he was concerned, he never needed to do a solo album again, because FM would be his new music outlet. But then he and Stevie had some kind of fight at the end of the SYW tour, so there clearly wasn't going to be a group album and then we heard that he asked for 3 years off.

I agree that the involvement of a reluctant Stevie is not desirable. She and her fans will be complaining about how Lindsey ruined her songs for the next 10 years.
On the other hand, I don't think there's any need to kick her out of anything. If she gets mad and says she's not part of FM, that's fine. Otherwise, FM is still those five members, she just doesn't record with them on this album. It would be ridiculous of them to try to go out on the road as FM without her though, in my opinion. Lindsey and Christine have more than enough material between them, including solo hit singles, that they could easily put on a great show with about as many hits without her.

I know they could and I know how you feel about Time and it didn't depress you, but them going out as Fleetwood Mac and not selling tickets would feel bad for me at this stage of their career.
I would love for Christine and Lindsey to go out together, even with John and Mick, and call themselves something else and play smaller venues with great sound all over the country. I'd be all up for that, just not as "Fleetwood Mac."

There's really no equivalent between this and Time whatsoever, other than Time shows the pitfalls of having somebody who is only half a member of the band. THAT band was essentially a souped-up cover band, which didn't depress me then because they didn't have an album out when they were touring. What I'm suggesting would have 4/5 of the Rumours band. They'd be playing their own songs.
but them going out as Fleetwood Mac and not selling tickets would feel bad for me at this stage of their career.
If Lindsey can do theater tours as a solo artist, I don't see how Fleetwood Mac with Lindsey and Christine couldn't play larger venues.

It's 80% of the classic Fleetwood Mac. It would have to be Fleetwood Mac. If they opted not to call themselves Buckingham Nicks during Christine's absence, they sure aren't going to call themselves anything but Fleetwood Mac now.

Well, you're probably right that that's what they would do, but it would just invite all the critics to talk about how much they're hurting in Stevie's absence. At least if they acknowledged they weren't FM, then no one would go with the expectations that they were.
A good question is what should they call themselves. Before Christine returned, they tossed the "Men of Mac" name around.
I wonder what would be a good name for the four of them. Maybe "Four Mac."

Why would they have to acknowledge that they weren't Fleetwood Mac? What exactly would they be? If it looks like Fleetwood Mac, sounds like Fleetwood Mac, has 80% of the people from the classic Fleetwood Mac, then it can only be one thing.

They'd stay Fleetwood Mac. Didn't change their name when Christine left, when Lindsey left or if Stevie leaves. Never have, never will. No one person is bigger than this band, no matter how many solo albums Stevie sells. They're in the Rock Hall of Fame, solo she is not. As much as I love her solo work (and I do love her solo work) that's just the plain, harsh, simple truth. They did just fine missing a member in the late 80s, they did just fine again in the 2000s, I'm quite sure it'd be just fine yet again minus Stevie.
However, "Fleetwood Mac: The Broken Chain" tour has a nice ring to it. Or if they really want to go for a jab below the belt, "Fleetwood Mac: Without You 2016 Tour"

This is all so depressing. Speculation or not, it's clear new music is not a priority for this band. When I read of the band's enthusiasm about the new music LB/CM had done earlier in the year, I was so hopeful! I knew there would be some delay, of course, but I thought for sure an album would arrive by March 2015--or sometime near after that.
Now with the extended tour dates, Mick's claims about Stevie's ambiguity, and resumed hints of LB's solo record, I feel deflated. I really really really wanted new music and would have even preferred Christine record another solo album than her participation in this nostalgia fest.
New music. That's what got me excited again. I'm so sad about this thread and the possibility of an aborted project that I don't even know if I want to see them live in January. Maybe once (in October) was more than enough.

I believe Stevie will eventually contribute to the album. But it's sad that she won't be an integral part of the formation. I will never forgive her for her egotistical and hypocritical ambivalence to the band to which she professes her loyalty to - the one in which she was able to launch her solo career. Lindsey and the rest of the band are the ones who carry the weight to produce her songs; she has it relatively easier - just providing the lyrics and vocals. When has Stevie ever been "an integral part of the formation" of an FM record? The White album or Rumours? even then the band treated her like she didn't belong "go away" "we don't need you" "we're working on something don't bother us" Stevie has always been somewhat of an outsider or an after thought when it comes to an FM record...Lindsey doesn't want Stevie telling him how his songs should be but Stevie is supposed to let LB walk all over her songs and she's just supposed to let him do it...Personally I think this is one of the big sticking points that Stevie has with LB so if she want's to direct traffic on her songs they should let her...I also think S & L are no longer "Musically compatible" and shouldn't be made to work together just because Christine is back...If Stevie is holding out because she wants full control of her songs from a musical and production standpoint then good for her...
If Stevie is holding out because she wants full control of her songs from a musical and production standpoint then good for her...
No, because Stevie herself acknowledges "I am not a musician." Non-musicians don't make good producers. If Stevie doesn't want Lindsey to produce her, then fair enough (although it's a shame, because no one has made her songs sound better than Lindsey has). But to suggest L and S should have equal ability to control how their songs sound is comparing apples to oranges. One of them is very skilled at making production choices, the other is not.

OMG great minds think alike! I posted that a long time ago when the Chris thing came out. I thought she was very sarcastic and rude in interviews and I thought "there is no way Stevie is gonna dig not being front and center. She can smile and gush all she wants but it's all PR BS".Everyone thought I was nuts so I'm glad you posted I think we're on to something so don't hide! You can do a search of my posts about this (if you're bored! )and you can see the similarities. Sorry guys I'm just so relieved that I wasn't a total bee-ach in my viewpoint
She was kinda rude, wasn't she? I really thought she would be much happier to have Chris back. Instead she basically walked away and except for touring, she doesn't want to commit to anything. For years she has been complaining about Chris not being there and now that she is, Stevie is not sure about recording. It just strikes me as odd.
I thought she'd be over the moon to have Chris back in the band and in the studio.
If we go one step further and believe that everything that comes out of any
of the band members is PR-BS then things make more sense...Everything SN says about wanting CM back or being happy about CM's return = PR-BS...The story of how CM's return came about=PR-BS...What story sounds better? I came back because I missed my band and the fans or I only came out of retirement for the money and attention....Personally I think CM's return was well planned by MF for quite a while (possibly years) as a way to increase FM's cash flow and as a tactic for MF to get Stevie to do things his way ( never ending tours / new albums ) If this is what's really happening then Stevie's behavior makes a little more sense...The more MF/FM pushes and tries to make Stevie look bad in the public eye the more disconnected she seems to become from FM.

I think we need to keep in mind that Stevie is human! A 66 year old woman, who has not had such a demanding career since the early 80's (fitting in Bella Donna in between Mirage recording, for example) sans the uplifting substances at her constant reach, she is doing a hell of a job. I think it is perfectly natural to be tired and not want to be nice and feel literally exhausted, with her age those moods are not out of the ordinary. Whatever shall be, shall be, we should all be happy that we have gotten yet another solo record from Stevie, and I have faith that Stevie will not let the current unlikely situation go to waste.

I think the group should "leak" some of the material they have been working on without Stevie. Most of us would of course be in a frenzy, debating each segment of the song(s). Stevie will start to get jealous no doubt. There'd be tons of questions by media, and the band can say yeah that's just a demo from our next album....tons of pressure on Stevie when newspapers/websites ask her about it.

Maybe the band should do what they do with Stevie on LB & CM songs to LB on Stevie's songs...CM MF JM work out the songs with Stevie and then when they are almost done bring LB in at the end to put his parts on.
michelej1
11-19-2014, 01:08 PM
Lindsey doesn't want Stevie telling him how his songs should be but Stevie is supposed to let LB walk all over her songs and she's just supposed to let him do it....
The last thing we knew, from the EP, Lindsey was trying to shape his songs to please Stevie, to entice her into wanting to sing them. So, I doubt he would be trying to dominate her songs any longer. Yes, she fought with him during SYW, 10 years ago. There's no evidence that he is demanding control of her songs anymore -- not since she told him she would never work with him again after SYW. He seems to have moved from that position. He produced Christine's songs and noted that it's something that Stevie doesn't want from him. There's no reason to think Stevie was told that if she recorded with FM Lindsey would get to "walk all over her songs."

Probably after the first of the year they will know more whats going on with the album. They will get this first leg of the tour over with and under their belt and enjoy the holidays .Thats my guess.
I was thinking if Stevie picked any tunes picked out from her archives or freshly written for the new album yet. Since she so busy promoting her 24K and touring with Mac which she has a little time left.

She must have had a pretty horrendous time to say something like that. I can understand why she's reluctant to put herself in the situation again.
Still, I hope they manage to work something out. It would be a real shame not to get some new music from them, particularly now Chris is back, and they already have these 8 new songs.

Hello all---
I, for one, would love to hear what Stevie’s supposed close friend, Tom Petty, would have to say about all this. Tom’s wit and no-nonsense attitude are legendary. I can totally hear him saying, “Put on your big girl panties, stop complaining, and make a record. If Lindsey pushes, you push back.”
But I can’t imagine he’d go public with any comments about her, so we will never hear that conversation.
In Stevie’s defense, she has every right to do what she wants. She’s a grown woman who clearly wants to continue making music but is possibly asking herself, “I don’t have many years of this career left in the tank. How do I really want to spend those years?”
But the fan in me is thinking, “Suck it up. You would have been waiting tables and playing acoustic shows in coffee houses for the last 30+ years if this band hadn’t taken you in. And who knows what would have happened to the band if you hadn’t come along? We might not even be here discussing them at all. You did all this together, the five of you. Ms. Nicks, for better or worse, you’re the face of the band. ACT LIKE IT. Step up, bring in some great songs, and show up in the studio to make sure they sound great. Push Lindsey to step outside his box and give your songs the production they deserve. Make a final masterpiece with this band.”
On the other hand…
I have no problem with them making an album as a four-piece without her. I would prefer that Stevie be involved, because the magic occurs when those five people are together.
But if she keeps playing games or insists that Dave produce, thank her for her time, wish her good luck, and finish that record. It might not have the old FM magic, but the band can still make a great record with Christine and Lindsey leading the way.

Hear hear.
My only hope is she hurries up and decides what she's doing sooner rather than later. Either way she's free to decide what she wants for her future. For the benefit of the others though she cant string them along. If she isn't doing an album she needs to tell them- their planning for Summer/Autumn 2015 will be massively different based on what she decides. If they do go out as a four piece that will take quite a bit of careful thinking through.

Christine’s return wasn’t something ginned up by Mick. It was a process I suspect that started when she read Ken’s book. Ken said in an interview dated March 29, 2012 (http://www.fleetwoodmacnews.com/2012/03/explosive-ken-caillat-interview-famed.html) that "Christine McVie has read the book now, and she told me that she loved it. Christine said that I brought passion back into the music for her and brought back so many memories. She’s the only real sweetheart in the group. The rest of them are all fighting with each other." Almost two years to the day later, the band was on the Today Show announcing Christine had rejoined Fleetwood Mac.
The fact that Lindsey told the band not to participate in the book because he might want to write one of his own someday means Christine can't very well use that as a reason, but it was Ken who leaked that Christine was going to Maui and that Christine would be performing with the Fleetwood Blues Band, which is why I believe that Ken more than anybody is responsible for Christine's comeback.

Exactly! Mick's and Lindsey's recent comments about Stevie have been very tactful. I see no agenda to publicly disrespect or shame her.
Do we know for sure that Stevie's main stipulation is that she wants that Dave Stewart to produce her songs? This seems like it might be a theory of a ledgie, and it's been passed around so much that it's become fact.
Lindsey is responsible for producing the songs that made Stevie famous. Just because she might have not liked his production of her songs on an album recorded ten years ago has no bearing on his integrity and ability to re-summons the talent he has to polish her songs into classics. With Christine back in the band, the dynamics have shifted. Stevie is absolutely insane to be so wishy-washy with her lack of commitment. I always admired for her ability to balance her solo career with her loyalty to Fleetwood Mac. On the last tour, she and Lindsey seemed to be so at peace with each other. Apparently, either things have changed, or it was just act.

We don't know for sure, and I hope that's not it because if it is, then just let Dave do it and get on with things! It's not too much for Stevie to ask after 40 years with the band, and Lindsey claimed he was open to it, so it makes no sense to me that this would be the issue.

I am not somewhere where I can try and dig out links right now, but Stevie did in fact say in an interview somewhere that she wanted an outside producer. I don't recall if she was the one who said Dave (I think so….) or not, but when Lindsey talked about being open to outside producers and that the band had kicked around some names, he specifically mentioned Dave.
ok I did some quick checking and didn't find the Dave article yet but did rediscover this from TheGuardian March 25, 2011 where she says she expects there to be a new FM album "next year" which would be 2012…… and then something happened because we know she balked at recording and the guys had to work hard just to get her to participate in a 4 song EP. She's been reluctant/resistant to record ever since.
THe interview in the Guardian was promoting IYD so she'd already recorded that and had her glorious experience with Dave and still said she expected a new FM album in a year. So it wasn't like she said it, then recorded with Dave and had some magical epiphany like "this is how I want to record everything in the future"

Yep. She owed WB one more album. Of course, it didn't have to be done right away. There was always the option of waiting for the Fleetwood Mac tour to end before doing the album. But, she opted to rush to get an album of leaked demos she found on YouTube done in six weeks so it would be done before Fleetwood Mac rehearsals. Of course, this also conveniently fulfilled her contract with WB, but I'm sure that's just a coincidence.

I'm sure Lindsey would rather have been touring behind a new album, but THAT certainly was not Mick's fault.

Dismissing the Bob Welch years is purely criminal(obviously the PG years too, I'm just a huge Welch era fan)!!!
I actually said "of this incarnation of the band" not of all incarnations of the band.

I don't think Chris's motivation for returning was for money and attention for her but I do think that Mick motivated her to come back for his financial gain.Everyone knows he's a greedy mofo and he has said that he loves to spend and has been bankrupt too many times to remember.Chris, being a good friend, said "ok,I'll bail you out-AGAIN"- hence the tour title, lets get "on with the show".And as far as a tour so soon after the last one?Maybe Mick figured he better "get it while the gettins' good"-that is,before she changes her mind.Just an angle my brain took..
I don't know, I'm just not willing to become that cynical about the whole thing. I know that Mick likes his money but I don't think that he masterminded the "On With The Show" tour, including cajoling Chris into coming back. I really believe it happened organically, and that it was Chris wanting to come back to the band that changed everything. I can't see her being persuaded to return by anyone, it must have come from her.
The decision was then made to tour. Why waste any time when John has had cancer, and they are in their late 60's and Chris 71. They probably knew how difficult and possibly lengthy it would be to complete an album, and decided the most sensible thing was to get out on the road, while they are still fit enough to do it.
I think going straight out on tour makes a lot of sense. Not great for the fans that want new music, but probably the best decision for the band and all the casual fans that would like another chance to see them live. I still believe a new album will happen, but we'll just have to wait.
Maybe I'm naïve, but in my eyes this band doesn't tour solely for monetary reasons. FM is a huge part of their lives, they are committed to their art, and they love performing.

Another thing to consider is that they may independently release the next Fleetwood Mac album. A tour like this would surely help fund something like that.

I really hope that Stevie walks away from Fleetwood Mac after this tour just to give all the boo hoo'ers here what they want. Then she can go on and make a few more fairly successful solo albums and do interviews and TV shows. FM can disappear into the sunset and play casinos and county fairs. This is a band to which she is the most famous and popular face. Get over it!! If she goes, their ability to draw any kind of crowds to shows or sell albums will GREATLY diminish. If that is how you want FM to end their career, so be it. They would likely have one final tour that will be lightly attended and then be gone for good. Let the attacks begin but I wont be reading them. I am so done with this board.

At this point this thread is starting to get me alittle annoyed in either direction .
Yes I do know we all want to see FM record with all members including me.
What ever happens. It happens or it will happen.
We got to calm down and take a chill pill and relax and stop dwelling over this new album. Its not healthy and Its not worth loosing sleep over a Two
things I will loose sleep over is worrying about their health and beating up themselves on no resting time. The other is getting headaches reading these threads with us dwelling on these topics.
John .Hang on there .I understand your frustration I've been there with this board.
We all should take a break from this and enjoy the upcoming holidays and those that still have to go see FM in the next couple of weeks . Just enjoy the shows .

I don't think Stevie really affects their album-selling power much. Her solo albums don't well....I wouldn't call them "fairly successful" and a fleetwood Mac album won't be a huge seller with or without her but the name alone could probably sell more than 24 Karat Gold and In Your dreams.

Fleetwood Mac should have completed an album before touring. Period. Instead, they used touring as an excuse to grease Christine's wheels, which surely didn't need greasing at all, and because of the rush to play shows, another Fleetwood Mac album may never come to be. Oh well. Those angry at Stevie over this situation need a harsh wake-up call. She doesn't owe Fleetwood Mac anything. She's given her life to them - they brought her great success and she has returned that many, many times over. I would love an album as much as many of you, but this band put cash on a pedestal long ago, and new albums are not as lucrative as touring. Stevie has every right to put her own career first, and unless Stevie is secretly the boss of them all, there is *nothing* stopping the rest of Fleetwood Mac from making albums to their heart's content. This all or nothing position has got to go.

I agree. I don't think a new Fleetwood Mac album will exactly burn up the charts, with or without Stevie's participation. That said, I do think that if the band tried to tour without Stevie, their ticket sales would drop considerably. I don't, for example, think they'd be able to fill Madison Square Garden without her....But it's possible they could still fill Radio City Music Hall with Christine and Lindsey leading.
I hope it never comes to that, though. This band needs to end on a high note, with everyone on board.

I know this because I was the roadie/assistant for the indie rock band Guided by Voices for the past four years, and one of my closest friends is Robert Pollard. My experience is that they can book it about two or three months out.
The band had five months between the last tour being canceled and tickets going on sale for the current tour. That was more than doable.

Yep the naysayers will be crying in their soup over the loss of Stevie and her goodness, I am sure. They will want to take back every unkind word they ever said about the Queen of Rock and beg the forgiveness of her and her insulted fans.
I don't think she and FM are parting ways. I don't want them too, but if they do, I also don't expect to see FM touring on a bill with Pat Benatar again. Rather than become lounge acts, they will simply retire and I'd rather them do that than sit around waiting for Stevie to graciously agree to gift them with her vocals. If this is their last tour as FM, so be it. I just don't want SYW to be their last album. I'd rather have an FM album without Stevie than another FM tour with her.
Meanwhile, if Stevie's solo tours are enough for her creatively and financially, so that when she retires she leaves herself, Waddy, Sharon, Lori and her personal staff all secure and she has tired of the FM world of stadium-sized concerts, press conferences, private planes and limos, which she says make her feel like Robert Plant, then I wish her the best of luck, walking into that twilight.

I'm sure most of them hoped that was going to be the case.
Those angry at Stevie over this situation need a harsh wake-up call. She doesn't owe Fleetwood Mac anything.
She does if she chooses to remain in the band.
She's given her life to them - they brought her great success and she has returned that many, many times over.
"Many, many times over"? I could almost get behind that, except that Christine had the most hits with Fleetwood Mac. Just sticking with this particular line-up, Christine and Lindsey had bigger hits off of their last studio album than Stevie (who really didn't even write that song), and that was when Stevie still had hit singles off of successful solo albums. So, no, she's always just been a part of a much bigger picture, and audiences know this, hence the bigger ticket prices, bigger venues, and second shows added in some some cities with the return of Christine, all just under a year of their last tour without Christine.
Stevie has every right to put her own career first,
That's a bit of a strawman. Who has said otherwise?
This all or nothing position has got to go.
Why? This is a position she has had regarding the others for years. Remember when Stevie said on August 18, 1987 (the press conference announcing Billy Burnette and Rick Vito) something along the lines of "we could wait another five to ten years for Lindsey to come around, but we're trying to preserve the entity of Fleetwood Mac, which is bigger than Stevie Nicks or Lindsey Buckingham..." Remember when she said Christine couldn't record songs for SYW and not tour? It would be hypocritical to change that now.

That's never going to happen again. Again, the band would still have most of the classic line-up, so they could still go on. It's not like they couldn't do the talk shows and play smaller venues while still remaining viable.
Rather than become lounge acts, they will simply retire
Christine just came out of retirement. I don't see her being too eager to go back into it right now. Christine wants to work, specifically with Lindsey, Mick, and John, and preferably with Stevie.

Yes, Stevie told Lindsey it was judgment day and that he wasn't going to stop FM. Why shouldn't she have her own judgment day?

so out of curiosity I posted a question about this to Dashut when this first came up. He's just gotten to answering it, and despite his earlier protestations that the current tour was NOT all about money, he seems to finally admit the cash grab is indeed a big motivator for much of the band:
Anonymous: Stevie seems to have her knickers in a knot about doing another Fleetwood Mac album after the current tour. She says she can't say whether she will "feel like" doing an album with them when the tour is over or not. What do you make of this? Body language on tour lately seems to indicate some friction between her and Lindsey. (Despite their professionalism, they're human and emotions do show). They were all about how they'd finally resolved differences last tour. WTF do u think is going on??
Dashut: I haven’t seen any of the recent shows lately so assuming what you are saying is correct, (because I have heard this from many others who have seen the show now) I believe we could be seeing signs of conflicting schedules in the future. I know Stevie has a busy solo career going on with her popularity seemingly greater than ever. She probably has many opportunities on her own in the new year and is perhaps feeling frustrated with what I now call “Tour Creep”, or the natural ability of a Fleetwood Mac tour to go on endlessly, making money all the way, which is hard for the other band members to resist. The feeling she could be “trapped” in a successful tour, may be keeping her from her own future vision at a period of life when time is of the essence. After all, she is an artist first. Don’t bet against a new Fleetwood Mac album with Stevie on it, I still believe they will work things out and give history what it wants. This is just my opinion, and my opinion only and take full responsibility for the comments that shall surly follow.

There's no doubt their ticket sales would drop. I'm not sure they'd drop considerably though. They may play less concerts and may downsize a bit but they'll hardly be playing in the back rooms of dingy bars (and so what if they did, that would be great). The majority that attend FM concerts are casual fans that only have a basic knowledge of the band (they'll probably own Rumours & Greatest Hits and/or Very Best of). I think a lot would still get tickets without having slightest idea she'd even left and still come away happy hearing all the familiar hits from Christine. The majority of die hard fans would still attend (and many may be even more likely to attend future concerts with the prospect of a varied new set list). I for one would be so excited by the prospect of hearing Isn't It Midnight, Why, Brown Eyes, Got a Hold on Me, Just Crazy Love...etc.
Bring it on (Jeez, I'm actually getting excited about something thats probably never even going to happen)

Could be that Stevie has not said she's on board with recording is because she knows Mick will probably want to extend the tour into 2016 so they can promote the new album...She's already committed to 3 years of FM and changed her recording schedule to accommodate the band...She simply might want time off...
As I posted earlier...I wonder if this is closer to the reason behind her reluctance to commit to another FM project maybe it has a little less to do with LB and more to do with the never ending FM plans..Let Stevie take 2 years off then FM can come back in 2018 with a final album from the five as well as a farewell tour...

She does if she chooses to remain in the band.
No. She can tour with them, and they can do albums without her. The exact opposite option should have been offered to Christine when she left. She even offered to record and was denied. That should have been a lesson to everyone.
The number of hits aren't important. I don't want to downplay the successes of the other two song writers, but, Stevie's songs and stage persona have been the draw. It is absolutely undeniable, written about in nearly every single article about the band ever published, that Stevie is the Ace. She is the magnet that draws the insatiable appetites of fans who want more. Christine had more hits? Yes. Stevie has more charisma, and it's that charisma that sells tickets to a Fleetwood Mac show. Disagree if you'd like, but I'd call it denial. Go back in time to 1975, take Stevie out of the band, and assume Rhiannon never happened. Where would they all be now? Retired with a fifth of the fame and notoriety they have now. They certainly would not be touring sold out stadiums. The endless ticket selling drama of those two ex-lovers would never have existed had only one of them been in Fleetwood Mac.
People change. Situations change. Emotions change. Life changes. And it was Mick and Lindsey who said Christine had to tour or go home - that was not Stevie's decision. Stevie parroted it in interviews at the time. I didn't agree with it then, and I don't agree with it now.
Ultimately, as I've said, I want the fivesome. I want Stevie to get her issues sorted out. I want an album with all of them. But if Stevie can't decide or isn't sure, the others just need to confront her about it and *tell* her they are moving forward with the album, whether she's on board or not.

I think half is optimistic. The first tour after Stevie? Sure. After that? I bet they'd be playing the same places in Denver that bands like Franz Ferdinand, and Fiona Apple are playing - old theatres with a 500 to 2500 seat capacity, maximum.

I honestly think the media would demonize her considerably. They would pit her against the band (Lindsey), and make it a big thing. I don't think she would want that publicity, but I could be wrong.
In the end, If she has some great ideas and songs up her sleeve than she needs to do what's best for that material.
But I'd rather have a great Fleetwood Mac album than ANOTHER tired, safe solo album with Dave Stewart that will sell at a mediocre level and not add anything worthwhile to her legacy.

I think you underestimate the band's ability to function without Stevie, and I think you're basing it all on what happened with the Time band. That's a terrible parallel.
The better parallel is with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Even when Neil is gone, Crosby, Stills & Nash are still able to function as a viable band. Although, Stevie Nicks is nowhere near as important to Fleetwood Mac's popularity (ability to sell tickets) as Neil is to CSN(Y). Fleetwood Mac was bigger overall than CSNY, and Stevie's solo career pales in comparison to Neil Young's career, but then Neil is bigger than any band he's been in.

2018?! Good god, no. There's no reasonable reason why we should have to wait that long. 2016 is already too far into the future. It's been decades, damnit. She's in or out. I want new songs!
SteveMacD

No. She can tour with them, and they can do albums without her. The exact opposite option should have been offered to Christine when she left. She even offered to record and was denied. That should have been a lesson to everyone.
Fleetwood Mac already tried that. It was called Time, and it didn't work.
The number of hits aren't important.
To the concert goer paying that kind of money to see a show, they're very important. They want songs people recognize. If Christine and Lindsey dipped into their solo work, they could easily put on a show where Stevie's absence would be minimal.
I don't want to downplay the successes of the other two song writers, but, Stevie's songs and stage persona have been the draw.
No. They've been A draw. If they were THE draw, she'd be able to play these venues on her own. If they were THE draw, ticket sales wouldn't be bigger in 2014 as they were in 2013.
It is absolutely undeniable, written about in nearly every single article about the band ever published, that Stevie is the Ace. She is the magnet that draws the insatiable appetites of fans who want more.
Which is why ticket sales and prices went up when Christine came back, less than a year after their last tour ended.
Christine had more hits? Yes. Stevie has more charisma, and it's that charisma that sells tickets to a Fleetwood Mac show.
So? Lindsey has the most charisma. He's the one rocking the hardest these days.
Go back in time to 1975, take Stevie out of the band,
You mean when Fleetwood Mac finally cracked the top 20 with a Christine McVie song that really could have been on any of the five albums she was a member on prior to 1975?
People change. Situations change. Emotions change. Life changes. And it was Mick and Lindsey who said Christine had to tour or go home - that was not Stevie's decision. Stevie parroted it in interviews at the time. I didn't agree with it then, and I don't agree with it now.
But, she didn't disagree with it. And, she didn't disagree with it in 1987.

I don't think Stevie really affects their album-selling power much. Her solo albums don't well....I wouldn't call them "fairly successful" and a fleetwood Mac album won't be a huge seller with or without her but the name alone could probably sell more than 24 Karat Gold and In Your dreams.
A reconstituted Mac (all 3 writers) would probably go platinum because it would be a big deal that they're all back together. A Mac album without any one of them is likely to stop at Gold, just as Behind The Mask and Say You Will both did.
As a solo artist Nicks has done very well. Even as a legacy artist in this era of albums not selling well she still sells hundreds of thousands of copies. Not as much as a Mac album would sell, but likely about 50% to 60% of it (unless its all 3 of them on it).

So? Lindsey has the most charisma. He's the one rocking the hardest these days.
Lindsey is an absolute musical genius and criminally under-rated as a guitar player. But objectively Nicks is the charismatic center of Mac, that's without a doubt. It's why she gets the most attention, and why her solo career has gold and platinum albums while Lindsey's and Christine's don't.
Yes Christine wrote the first Mac hit with "Over My Head" but I don't know if it would have hit as well without Lindsey's production genius. I think he gave Mac the spark it needed to refine Christine's pop savvy just enough, and Nicks' star power put them into the stratosphere.
Each of the three really bring something to the whole puzzle.

What a thoughtful, rational response from Richard. Of course he doesn't know anything for sure either, but it's nice to get some perspective from someone outside the Ledge, where it feels like we're being poisoned by the bile that comes from picking sides and pointing fingers.

Well, considering that Stevie's tours are only a fraction as successful as FM's tour, I don't think she's the draw or the ace for many fans. Is she the most popular band member? Yes. That's about all you can say.
If it was "absolutely undeniable" that she was the draw, I don't think she would be opening for Rod Stewart while FM sold out in Dublin in just 3 minutes and has just added a 5th O2 Arena show.

But objectively Nicks is the charismatic center of Mac, that's without a doubt. It's why she gets the most attention, and why her solo career has gold and platinum albums while Lindsey's and Christine's don't.
Stevie also blatantly goes after what's current. BD: Tom Petty and Don Henley. OSOTM: Bruce Hornsby & Kenny G. TISL: Sheryl Crow and Natalie Maines. She's the one most likely to make a cameo on American Idol and The Voice and goes on shows like Ellen. Not saying she's alone, just the most likely.
Lindsey was about his own talents. Christine tried to incorporate Fleetwood Mac with classic rockers (namely Winwood, Clapton, and Ray Cooper). However, if you sub out Todd Sharp with Dan Perfect, her two albums were remarkably similar. Same rhythm section, both had at least one song co-written with Billy Burnette, etc. Lindsey and Christine weren't trying to establish careers outside of Fleetwood Mac. It became a necessity in both cases (not a knock on Stevie, BTW).
Anyway, Stevie Nicks was never a regular character on Saturday Night Live.
Yes Christine wrote the first Mac hit with "Over My Head" but I don't know if it would have hit as well without Lindsey's production genius. I think he gave Mac the spark it needed to refine Christine's pop savvy just enough, and Nicks' star power put them into the stratosphere.
If it were "Say You Love Me" I'd completely agree with this. THAT song is the essence of THIS particular version of the band. Lindsey's quirks as a player come through, the harmonies are breathtaking.... But OMH could have been on a Bob Welch-era album. There's nothing particularly different about it. It's certainly no "Spare Me A Little Of Your Love" or "Why".
Each of the three really bring something to the whole puzzle.
All FIVE bring something. ;)

And Lindsey. And Christine. And John. You know...the band.
Not to mention 2017 for Fleetwood Mac's 50th Anniversary.
Good for her. I'm sure the band appreciates her charitable spirit.
As I posted in a thread a long time ago(God only knows when),IMO Stevie did her solo album when she did for a reason - she knew Chris would be getting ALOT of attention on this tour and Stevie just HAD to do something to draw attention to herself. What better way could there be?I don't doubt that she loves Chris but she doesn't just love attention - she craves and needs it.I believe her self worth,in her mind,is determined by how much fawning she gets.So sad, poor little rich girl.:(
Having said that I will also say that I really do love Stevie and her music but I think she has some serious issues that need to be resolved.

You could be half right on that. I wouldn't say that it's something as narcissistic as drawing attention to herself. Stevie's perfectly capable of that whenever. However, she might have wanted to use Christine's return as way to capitalize on her album. That way, she doesn't have to work the new album as much.
Of course she's going to be ambiguous about Fleetwood Mac's future and touring behind 24KG when she has no intentions of touring it, or at least do a major tour for it. She can't very well say it's not worth touring behind when she's still actively promoting it. She might do a short 8-12 week tour, but that's it, and she'd do it when the band was putting the finishing touches on the new album.
Ultimately, I don't have any doubt that Stevie is on board with a new Fleetwood Mac album. It's fun to talk about if she will or won't, and what they should do if she doesn't, but I doubt she could let a moment like Christine coming back to Fleetwood Mac and having all five of them back together again after so long, when EVERYBODY thought that it would never happen again, pass without having some type of statement come out of it. Rushed albums comprised of leaked demos found on YouTube that fulfill contracts happen for a reason.

I'll be seeing them this Saturday. It will be interesting to see the energy between Lindsey and Stevie. Will it be entirely different, compared to the last tour, when they appeared so chummy, and seemed to leave their animosity behind them.
Christine's presence may be a factor in the change in Stevie's attitude. Perhaps she has cast herself as an outsider because Christine and Lindsey forged a close, new found chemistry and musical relationship while collaborating on new songs for the pending album. And, she might carry a little resentment that this tour inhibited her efforts to promote her solo album.
The fact is, once they finish this long tour, her album her album will be old news and after thought. She might deliberately holding back her commitment to the Fleetwood Mac record simply as a show of power.
She has plenty of songs that already exist that she could hand over to the band. While on the road she could channel her anger and write few new songs laden with metaphors about all the perceived unjust suffering she would have to endure while collaborating with the band.

I've been reading some of the comments about Stevie and Lindsey not getting along on this tour which saddens me. I'm going to see them in June here in the UK. I would be devastated if the performance was not by all 5 of them. I've only seen Mac once, in 1980, with the line-up I love the most. I haven't seen them since because all the other UK tours have had different line-ups. 35 years later we all get a chance to see the Rumours line-up, so I really hope they do get along long enough to finish the tour and also to record one final classic album together. I wait with bated breath!! Rich.

From a new Hufffington post article:
As we spoke, Nicks brought up a letter she had written to the Haim sisters. The T Magazine shoot was meaningful for both parties, and Nicks was eager to continue a relationship with Este, Danielle and Alana. “When I get back, I want to spend time with them,” she said. “I would love to make a record with them. I would love to go on tour with them. I would love to be a part of their lives because I think they’re the best of the best to come along in a long, long time. I think they’re going to be a major force in rock and roll.”

maybe that will solve all FM album problems - she will cut all the ties with FM, and record with other artists, and the band can finally put that almost-finished album out without her?
on the other hand, this reminds me why i am so pi**ed about LB losing precious time in his life - and his highly creative, prolific, and productive phase - waiting on her. he should be putting out solo albums. he should be collaborating with all these people and band who respect him so much and so want to collaborate with him.

Do you really think that would ever happen? Until FM decides that cash is no longer king the never changing and never ending "cash grab Rumours rehash oldies tour" will continue and nothing will ever change.
As far as S&L go yes they should be doing something-anything more productive than "cash grab" tours.

Well, that's the problem. They are a baby boomer band. All us hardcore fans, EVEN IF WE DIDN'T GO, there are too many people who will shell out $500-1000 for a seat. That sucks, but that's what's on our plates.

I don't think Stevie owes the band another album, nor do I think she owes them any gratitude at this point. The only thing she owes them is an answer as to whether she will or will not record with them and if she has any future plans with them.
I'm a big fan of them doing this tour right now. At the very minimum, we've at least gotten to see the classic Mac one more time. Given their ages, recent health issues, and the uncertainty of the band's future, they would've been fools to not take advantage of this golden opportunity at this moment in time. They could've done the album right away, but who knows how long it would have taken to finish by the time all of the contracts are finished?
All of that being said, I fully believe there will be more in the future. Christine didn't come out of retirement just to go back into retirement, she didn't come out of retirement just to do more oldies tours, and she didn't come out of retirement to make dueling solo albums with Lindsey. She came back to make new Fleetwood Mac music. This is why if Stevie isn't going to record with them I think they will have to part ways, but I still think Stevie will ultimately record with them.

REALLY? You want to make a freaking record with F'in Haim but not FM the one's who made you famous? What an ungrateful....
Sounds like Stevie's talking out of her you-know-what again. She often says this about artists she likes - that she'd like to record with them. Take it with a grain of salt.

I've just discovered that Stevie's web site seems to have no links to WB (only iTunes & Amazon) and WB has no "24K" at all...Are these just odd coincidences? Or are they related?

As I've been saying for a long time now, recording an album full of leaked demos found on YouTube in six weeks that also happens to fulfill a record contract so as to be finished before Fleetwood Mac rehearsals screams contractual obligation rush job. Why would she want or need to do the album at that point in time? It could have waited until after the tour.
Stevie has always had every intention of being fully involved with the band going forward, but had to finish out her contract to make that easier.
There are no coincidences with the industry, but especially with this band.

We know why "24K" was rushed for quite a while now but why are all the "24K" links to WB dead and why are there no links to WB at "StevieNicksOfficial"? And why can't I find "24K" at the WB store.

As time goes on I do not give up any hope.
1. Now all members of FM are free agents.
2. They are most likely working on forming a new production company if they are going indie.
3. Stevie is probably still under some kind of contractual agreement to promote 24 karat gold for a period of time, through media and appearances. I highly doubt her contractual obligation was just to release the album and be let go. So, FM to start spreading news of the new album would derail WB last investment.
4. I will start worrying if we do not hear any new details on the new album till the month after the final date of "On with the Show".

Stevie has it pretty easy. She doesn't have to play an instrument, and she isn't producing the album. The rest of the band mostly carries the weight of work and responsibility for making the record. That's why it's somewhat infuriating she is playing the primadonna card with the band that made her famous, and made accommodations which allowed her to pursue a solo career.
She has a right to be frustrated about the timing of Christine's return and their immediate decision to tour. It has thwarted her ability to promote her solo album in the traditional manner. I suspect that, even if she was given that chance, it wouldn't have made that much more of an impact on her sales and chart numbers. The revenue she is collecting on this this tour probably vastly outweighs the financial return she could possibly generate from her album. It's very disappointing and surprising that Stevie has shown such ambivalence and a lack of loyalty and enthusiasm to work with the band to make what could likely be their swan song album. It makes her outward happiness that Christine is back in the band so disingenuous.
I just had a thought. What if Stevie's ambivalence -- along with Mick's statements that they "hope" Stevie will record with them -- is intentional drama meant to get the public (and the media) wound up for when Stevie finally agrees? The success of Rumours taught Mac that the whole love/hate drama is a huge selling point for a certain variety of fan (and again, the media), so maybe this is part of the play-acting?

I've been thinking the same thing, particularly as I'm seeing them on this tour with Christine. On stage they seem so thrilled to be playing together and in such good spirits. I keep wondering if now that they are all clear of prior recording contracts whether this tension over a new FM record could at least be partly orchestrated to build interest from the media and potential record companies. Who knows, but I am on the side of really wanting Stevie to get involved in this project and I think ultimately she will.

I feel like I haven't seen much discussion about how Nicks directly admitted that when she started 24 Karat Gold, it was just a contract obligation. I know a lot of people were suspicious that was the case, but it's interesting she directly admitted it. Almost to the point where it's like she's saying to us "Hey shh...I know you want a new FM album. Just let me get this out of the way first".
I think that points to suspicion that the record label didn't want her album sitting in the shadow of a looming Fleetwood Mac project and probably told her to keep hush about any plans outside of 24KG. They obviously wouldn't want 24K instantly getting lost in the excitement and anticipation of a "Swan Song" album from FM.
I'm beginning to wonder if she didn't rush into this album to fulfill her record obligation so she could just get it out of the way in order to actually make room in her schedule for her band. I know this has definitely been speculated.
So in the meantime, what do they do? Play up that Stevie isn't all the way in yet. Create some tension and drama for the media. Get fans worked up and interested in what's going on, etc. etc.

You're basically saying that the other band members are complicit with Stevie's games and I just don't see that as being the case. They're all very open about their desire for an album and I think they're genuine in their frustration with Stevie. I can't see Lindsey lying for the sake of controversy. Agreed. Ambiguity about her involvement in a future Mac record is real. Mick, Lindsey, and Christine all spoke of welcoming her into the project "should she want to participate." They didn't sound like they were faking drama. However, the reasons for Stevie's demurring are not entirely clear.
Whatever the case, I doubt the remaining four would knowingly create an environment that was hostile to her, or even anything that was less than inviting. My guess is she just doesn't want to experience being the fifth wheel in another Mac studio project where Lindsey and Chris form a partnership that leaves her feeling like an outsider whose status as a musician is marginal. But who the heck knows. Whatever the reason, these five people OWE their respective fortunes to the fans who have supported them for 40 years. Why not put all pettiness aside and get the job done? It would make so many people happy. Ugh.

No one cares except us. I doubt that 10,000 people in the entire world pay attention to such drama. A young hot group could get the world riled up about whether or not they will ever record together again, but not Fleetwood Mac. Just because it is of primary interest to the few people posting here, doesn't mean the world at large cares. As a publicity stunt, it would stink.
Having one of them skydive would actually create more furor, if it's publicity they are after.
It's just like Mick saying that FM was over. The world didn't care at all. He said it to get Stevie to do something and she did, but aside from carrying his quotes in all the news outlets for that week, no one in the media was having a fit over the possibility that FM was over. Casual fans were not in an uproar about it at all. It didn't make everyone start clamoring for them to reunite.

I totally agree with your comment about how Stevie sounded so much better at the Forum shows. I'm wondering how much of that has to do with the improved acoustics in the venue. It seemed to me like she was singing softer in spots in a way I've not heard in years. And yes - the harmonies were wonderful and balanced so well.

You're basically saying that the other band members are complicit with Stevie's games and I just don't see that as being the case. They're all very open about their desire for an album and I think they're genuine in their frustration with Stevie. I can't see Lindsey lying for the sake of controversy. The others, as far as stevue knows, haven't even heard the album and haven't discussed it with her. They are also of no obligation to oblige her record company.
I think if they REALLY want Stevie on board...they would be somewhat complicit. If Stevie genuinely asked them, "Hey...can you not mention that I'm for sure doing the new album while I'm trying to promote 24K" ...I'm sure they would oblige. They're not on tour to promote a new album anyway so it's not like they have to go super out of their way just to say "We're hoping she joins us but we're really excited about what we've done so far". They haven't been in the media BEGGING and PLEADING that she make a new album with them and trying to make her look bad. If that is all the info Stevie wanted to be out publicly right now, then it's not really a big deal, there's still some pressure on Stevie to get herself together AND it drums up some interest in the project in the media and fanbase (à la this thread)
It's obviously not the only possibility but certainly seems plausible.

Stevie loves being popular. I don't think she'd ever agree to doing anything that may anger or irritate fans let alone turn any of them against her just for the sake of it.
The whole 'purposely creating drama to drum up the interest in the album' -thing. I don't buy that for one minute. No chance.

it's funny to read these comments - apparently he/she does not have the right to buy or not buy whatever they want and say what the reasoning is behind that without being quartered and jumped on by bunch of people.
This is stupid. No one said they don't have the right to buy or not whatever they want. People were just reacting to the melodramatic high drama of the "how dare she I will NOT buy this album" post.

I was thinking about this the other day...I think it would go a long, long way if Lindsey would say something along the lines of "Stevie spent the fall making a really great record and we're really looking forward to possibly working with her on an upcoming mac album"...instead it's always remarks about "other commitments" etc. Lindsey really doesn't "lay it on thick" regarding much of anything or anyone, but with Stevie a little grease on the wheel could be very beneficial. They both could be better about extending the olive branch to one another when talking about their side projects. Maybe they do privately, but the way Stevie's ego appears to work, saying something in front of others would have a huge impact.

Someone said Stevie has it pretty easy because she doesn't have to play an instrument and isn't involved in producing Fleetwood Mac albums.
I just wanted to point out that she played keyboards for Say You Will.
She can and does play an instrument very well: the piano and keyboards.

Stevie's not so much a musician, although she does lay out basic melodies with her limited guitar and piano. Here's a list: Stevie plays a bit of piano, keyboards, guitar, tamborine, a couple of percussion items . . . and the triangle! I know I have a picture of it somewhere, but for now, maybe you'll enjoy Ed;

Stevie's melodies are pretty complete; she's very good at writing melodies and lyrics. Her accompaniments are rudimentary at best, and her arrangements are pretty much nil. She totally relies on others to have a production vision and a sound for her songs-- which is why her music varies so much between producers.
Both Chris and Lindsey could go out onstage (and have) totally alone and entertain an audience with full songs with interesting and full-sounding accompaniments.
Stevie could go onstage and plunk away but you wouldn't sit through a one hour or heaven forbid 90 minute or 2 hour set with just her and the piano. The limitations of her playing would just not make that enjoyable-- it would be super repetitive musically.
She plays just enough to get her melody and lyrics across and a very, very basic chord progression and then she's out of her depth.

Stevie Nicks has probably already heard the 8 new songs Lindsey, Mick and John recorded together in 2012. How do I know this? I know because when we first heard about how everyone just wants two new songs and not a full-length album from Stevie, we also heard from Lindsey that she had chosen one song and he had chosen the other.
For Stevie to choose a song, it would be reasonable to presume that she listened to all eight new songs which Lindsey wrote and recorded with Mick and John who were apparently playing their arses off on all eight of those songs. Ergo, she would be fully aware that Lindsey has at least five or six songs polished and ready to go for the much-anticipated Fleetwood Mac album of 2015 which was indeed announced by Liz Rosenberg (Fleetwood Mac's publicist) before the current tour, with no release date disclosed.
Anyone making excuses for Stevie Nicks at this point is really clutching at straws and probably are blinded by how great they perceive Stevie to be...it is wilful blindness from lifelong Stevie Nicks fans, frankly.
There are six songs out there that Stevie has heard and that she knows were deliberately recorded in her key so that her voice can easily be added in to the mix for that half-dozen batch of new Lindsey Buckingham penned songs.
Her voice was added to Sad Angel very well and also Miss Fantasy, although she was not very prominent in the mix on the latter track.
It is not ignorance of all the work Lindsey and Christine have done that is stopping Stevie from participating in a new Fleetwood Mac studio album.
It is selfishness because she believes that all fans want from the band is a world-wide arena tour and as she said in 2012 or 2013, everyone just wants two new songs, apparently. Now I'm sure there are thousands of fans who want 12 or 14 new songs!
That means a new album, Stevie! If you think we only want 2 new songs, that's fine. You can contribute the bare minimum of 2 new Stevie Nicks-penned tracks to Fleetwood Mac's next studio album and you can add your voice in to the mix on Lindsey's six new songs and Christine's four new songs. Then we will have 12 songs and you can put the three-quarters done already Fleetwood Mac album out by May 2015! Sheesh! It only took one or two days for Stevie to complete her contributions to Extended Play...she has plenty of free time over the festive season to meet Lindsey and Christine and to fill in the gaps on the three-quarters done new studio album by Fleetwood Mac.
These things are obvious to most fans and music critics, but somehow Stevie's arrogance is blinding her to the true wishes of her loyal fans who helped her to make her fortune and to find her fame in the first place.

I seem to remember when Christine wasn't around Stevie would say she would never make another FM record without her. Now that she is back I don't understand why she is so reluctant.
Over the last several years she always seems to be the one dragging her feet and derailing a new album.

If our suspicions are true and Stephanie Lynn really does not want to participate in her band's studio work, the least she could do is be honest and publicly admit it.
She went on and on in 2012 and 2013 about how "everyone just wants two new songs, so we're giving them 2 songs"...despite her belief that fans of the band do not appreciate new music being erroneous ...she could quite easily record 2 or 3 new songs with Mick, Christine and John in the space of two weeks probably.
Look how fast she recorded 24 KG for crying out loud! She is a prolific writer who confesses to writing in her journal every day since age 14 or thereabouts.
I believe that it is highly likely that Stevie has written new material. The potential names of her two new tracks were revealed on Fleetwood Mac News blog for a fleeting moment and I think that was before Christine rejoined. One song was called My Mother's Rings. I wonder about Carousel if she wrote it and gave the song to Vanessa, or if it was the other way around.
Anyway, I Don't Care was all written in 2014 apart from the chorus and the Mike Campbell instrumental track.
She has Mike Campbell of all people sending her instrumental tracks, she writes new stuff every single day of her life apparently and still she doesn't know if she'll ever be on board for a new studio album by Fleetwood Mac?
Give me a break. It is time she showed some loyalty to Mick and John for taking her in, even when they only wanted Lindsey and some loyalty to Lindsey for talking Mick and John around. Not to mention Christine who had the final say on Stevie joining the band at the very end of 1974.
Also there are the thousands of fans who pay good money for her records and her concerts who feel like chopped liver the way she treats us, expecting our loyalty while giving us no brand new product since 2011. 24 KG was great but we had already heard 14/16 songs online before its release.

Bless you. I love her as well, but after half a dozen or so demos of just her and the piano I need a break. They're best in small doses as far as I'm concerned. God help me having to sit thru a 90 minute 'concert' just playing. Talking is a different thing altogether and not what I was referring to.

Stevie plays the keyboards WELL...:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
People might not realise this if they failed to pay attention during music class at school, but here's a home truth.
The vocal track for most songs consists of just three chords...therefore, when Stevie wrote songs like Belle Fleur, she repeats the same three chords over and over again on piano and harmonises her voice along to that three chord combination.
One song that Stevie regularly publicly performs on piano in Rhiannon, another is Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You, both of which sound quite charming when Stevie performs them and accompanies herself with her own piano playing.
Look, it is quite clear that Stevie Nicks cannot play keyboards to the same standard as Christine McVie. Still, she is credited on Say You Will as having shared keyboards duties with Lindsey Buckingham and also Sheryl Crow.
As a side note, I think Sheryl Crow would have made an excellent addition to Fleetwood Mac for the 2009 tour and it easily could have been billed as a one-time only thing, thus allowing Christine the freedom to return when she did without getting in Sheryl Crow's way.
Sheryl Crow is one of my favourite musicians and she can really sing, as well as play guitar and keyboards.
By the way, people who takes themselves seriously as singers will almost inevitably end up playing keyboards or piano at some point in their musical careers. There is an exercise you can do as a singer to find your vocal range, using a keyboard or a piano. I have an 11 note range that I can sing comfortably for example. I would consider myself a baritone, a mid-range male voice. Stevie Nicks is a contralto, a low-range female voice equivalent to the male countertenor voice range, if memory serves correct.
A mistake people commonly make is that singing is a genetic talent given to you as a present from a grandfather or grandmother who was an excellent folk singer. While this may be the case with Stevie Nicks and her grandfather Jess Nicks, it is more often than not, different to this for a great array of singers.
It is a great mistake to believe that singing or playing an instrument should come naturally to anyone. It is a skill and like any skill, singing and musicianship requires constant ongoing practise to fines those skills. It is the great tragedy of compulsory education that at most, two years are dedicated to learning musical knowledge and developing practical skill, normally on a recorder in primary school, then keyboards and guitar in high school.
The reason some people are better than others at singing is because some people work harder at it than others. Think about it really, just think how much time Stevie and Lindsey spent honing their craft before and most definitely after the release of Buckingham Nicks...
If you can talk, then you can sing. If you have the time to practise, then you can sing well eventually. Same goes for instruments, if you have hands and a mouth and they both work, then you can play any instrument well with practise.
Stevie does not get credit for how great those three chords she came up with the idea to combine for Dreams are...nor does she get any credit other than "Music and Lyrics by Stevie Nicks" for songs like Angel, Sisters of the Moon, Say You Will, Without You and so on. People praise her singing while forgetting that she single-handedly created the catchy tune on Dreams, Say You Will and perhaps even Without You...Lindsey came in afterwards and built on the catchy melodies Stevie made up on her own.

John McVie is credited with black keys for Say You Will, meaning he played the sharps and the flats, presumably while Stevie played the notes.
I don't know how that would have panned out to be honest...was Stevie sitting behind the keyboard with John leaning over her shoulder to press the black keys intermittently?

I agree, but still think that a lot of people including Lindsey do not appreciate Stevie's skills in crafting such gorgeous melodies and in giving to Lindsey the basic three chords progression core to a song that he then fleshes out...
I remember reading an article in which Lindsey was quoted as saying before Christine returned, "We're a band of three musicians and a great singer." I'd bet you my lunch that Miss Nicks would be absolutely infuriated by comments like that, which are to the effect of "Oh, Mick and John and me, we are excellent musicians. Stevie? Oh, yeah, she's a great singer and nothing more."
If Lindsey spoke about Stevie and to Stevie using language like "You're an accomplished musician" rather than "She's a great singer" we might not have a whole thread dedicated to Stevie Nicks's non-participation in the new studio album Fleetwood Mac have been working on without her.
Treat people how you want to be treated is what's called the golden rule. Treat Stevie Nicks like chopped liver and she will refuse to contribute to a new album. Treat her like an accomplished musician in her own right and hey, she might feel better about getting into the studio with Buckingham...
Just sayin'

Had to look and he said "we are a band of musicians and a great singer." He didn't do a head count on the musicians. Still, he'd be an idiot to call Stevie a musician. She's a singer and, more importantly, she's a songwriter. She's an artist. But she herself says she's not a musician, for instance:
“I have archives of demos, and I have many, many friends who prefer the demos — who have them and listen to them, and that’s kind of really hard to take when it costs you nothing to do a demo and it costs you $500,000 or $1 million to do a record, and people come to you and say, ‘Can I have a cassette of the song when it was just a demo?’…It’s very important to me that what I’m saying comes through. I’m not a musician. More than musically, it’s very important that what I have to say comes through and so on this record, he did what I asked. He let me put my demo feeling through.”
It's no more of an insult not to call Stevie a musician than it is not to call Lindsey a pianist.

I've always thought Stevie was cool. My opinion is that she's a good rock singer, first and foremost. I also think she's written some great lyrics, like "Dreams" and "Sisters of the Moon." Those are iconic characters she created. Is she a musician? Yes. Is she an instrumentalist? No, good heavens no. She has no gift for that.

John McVie is credited with black keys for Say You Will, meaning he played the sharps and the flats, presumably while Stevie played the notes.I've been teaching adult piano lessons for thirty years. But the "black keys" credit on Say You Will—I don't know what the hell that even means. In music, a sharp or a flat doesn't have to be a black key. For example, B sharp is a white key. I think it's just a deliberately silly credit. It's a joke whose punchline eludes us—chances are because it's an inside joke.
Stevie has some other instrumental credits on some of her solo albums. She plays the chords on "Love Changes." You can hear it, too. She presses and holds a chord for the length of the bar, and then presses and holds another chord when the song modulates. It's very, very simple. It's at the level at which actors sometimes have to learn a bar or two in order to film a scene in a movie. Anyone could do it.
Stevie's keyboard ... er, approach (skill isn't the right word for it) is very, very basic, very untrained, and very klutzy. But she has never told the world (or herself) that it's anything more. I admire her honesty.
During the late leg of the Wild Heart tour, Stevie used to hang out next to Roy Bittan during the piano introduction to "Rhiannon." Sometimes, she'd reach over and play her little "Rhiannon" riff on the Fender Rhodes, which was next to the grand piano. Oh, how we loved the rock & roll of it, seeing this elegant woman in a cape diddling around on the Fender Rhodes. If you have a recording of the Compton Terrace gig, you can hear her play, and then say, "I did write it!"

Great retort! It seems sometimes people are looking (and finding) insults and disparaging remarks where there are none. For sure, Stevie is a great singer. Lindsey certainly respects and appreciates Stevie's unique songwriting talent; his omission to note it has no inferred meaning. He didn't refer to himself or Christine as songwriters either.
Stevie has successfully created her own atmosphere and distinctive signature style. Not many songwriters achieve that. Yet, I consider her not as a great songwriter, but a very good songwriter who has had many great songs.
