Richard Dashut announced that he just started a blog "Truth And Consequences - My Times With Fleetwood Mac".

this is his opening post:

Life is both precious & short.

If one is lucky enough, one crosses paths & recognizes as such, a special person in their life called a Mentor.

As luck would have it, for me, I had both a mentor & a best friend all in one.
This potent combination along with an intense passion for creativity, forged my future with Fleetwood Mac.

My mentor’s name was Lindsey Buckingham, & to him I owe damn near everything.

This blog is therefor dedicated to Lindsey Buckingham.

Thank You for enabling & sending me off on what has been an incredible journey.

exactly.

will it be piling on or is it an attempt to counterbalance a lot of the stuff that's been put out there in recent years about LB (ref. Carol Harris, Ken Caillat, even Mick's book)? Calling LB his "mentor" and owing him "everything" certainly seems like it would be the latter.

But it is just so unusual for anyone intimate with the band to blab about anything…. wonder how this will be received by the band or LB. Is he trying to get back in LB's good graces or something??

Curiouser and curiouser..

btw, I love his handle on tumblr: dickdash

So I am actually really excited right now. Richard Dashut (famed Fleetwood Mac producer) has started a tumblr, and is answering fan questions. He is a really nice guy, it seems, and is giving genuinely honest answers. So check it out if you want. I wasn't sure which thread to put this in, but he's answering some questions about Stevie, so idk.

It's simply amazing. Last night I asked him about L&O and why he was not a part of the Go Insane recordings. Less than ten minutes later I had his answer!! It's great to read what he writes, he lived lot of things with FM and he can talks in first person about what happened there.
We'll see lot of amazing stories. Thanks Richard!!!
Regards,
Mark.

Why is everyone so cynical around here? Richard stared in one of the questions, that he and Lindsey had lost contact for 20 years, but have renewed their friendship a couple of years ago. Just maybe they are really friends, and he wants to set the record straight, without getting paid for it, unlike Carol Ann and Ken. He did say that all he wants is an investment of fans' time, not their money.

I am sure the pictures from the early years (pre-FM) that he might post of Lindsey and Stevie will be lovely to see.

Even the early FM pictures, before Rumours, will be nice to view, before they became superstars.

It seems that his answer was based mostly on his personal experiences and relationships in the studio. He and Lindsey developed a strong bond during the recording of Tango in the Night.

I wish he could have answered more questions about the Buckingham Nicks, and their set lists. He really didn't addressed them.

He just posted this Q&A:

anonymous said:

With Stevie and Lindsey's tumultuous relationship are you surprised that they're still in the same band after all this years and they're still touring together ???

True love, deep love, respect love, overcomes both time and heartache. The story of Stevie & Lindsey is both tragic and perhaps unrequited, but also a triumph of spirit and living whole. Perhaps their new music will speak to this…..r

ps. My deepest respect to Kristen, Lindsey’s beautiful wife and to their successful, happy marriage. Their extraordinary children bear proof of that!

That shirt that Mick's seamstress handmade for Lindsey is not his first "puffy" shirt. In fact, there's a picture of the 5 of them where Lindsey is wearing a white pirate shirt with a vest. I love that photo.

But this new picture of Lindsey does remind me of Seinfeld and makes me laugh quite a bit.

I also asked him if recording Mirage at Château d'Hérouville was scary (supposedly it's haunted), what are his favorite Lindsey melodies and has the band ever done any of their songs like cartoon themes (and put in silly lyrics) when they got bored. But he didn't answer those.

I asked why they left Lindsey saying f*** on the chain.

No reply.

Ater repeated listens, sadly, I really think Lindsey is saying saying "four" as in one-two-three-four.

He answered my question about Peter Green playing at the end of "Brown Eyes", saying that he didn't think he did. So the mystery deepens. Lindsey didn't think he did, Peter can't remember, but still Mick's book, Bob Brunning's (fwiw) book and Martin Celmin's official biography of Peter have the story.

I can't believe those last few notes at the end are Lindsey. It doesn't sound like his playing at all. My personal theory is that Peter and Mick were messing about in the studio one evening and the fragment got recorded. Mick himself added it to the mix or asked Ken to do it...

interesting to read what people asked and didn't get answered. i initially thought he's choosing not to answer questions that may perhaps be perceived as more sensitive, but now it seems completely random. he might be answering when he's online and so it may just be a timing of the question.

i asked 6 questions and he answered 3 of those. some of my questions were really nice (thanking him for doing the blog etc - he responded to that one), others were potentially sensitive, and he responded to some of those but not others.

either way, every time he did respond, the response came within minutes after i asked.

The fact that he wasn't credited on Night Watch on Penguin would support that. We know for certain(from Bob Welch's Q & A) that Peter played on that:

Pete was at the studio all day as I remember, just sitting in the corner, not saying anything.
I don't know who's idea it was, but he went down into the echo-chamber in the basement, and played along with "Nightwatch" from there.

We couldn't see him or anything, and he just did what he wanted. It was very late at night, and we'd all had quite a bit to drink.

Pete didn't make any comments after he recorded...It was the band's judgement to mix his playing with the end of the song.

Yes he was in "bad shape"...but remember, I never knew him when he was in "good" shape....I had to go by what Mick and John told me he had been like.

Ciao.

Doubtless he wasn't very well at the time of Tusk either -didn't he refuse to sign a recording contract with Warners that Mick had arranged because he thought he was entering a contract with the devil... or so the story goes.

interesting to see this answered - we were wondering on this board whether what Ken said about Richard and Lindsey's relationship had some truth to it:

Anonymous: Thanks for talking to us Richard. Members of Fleetwood Mac aren't big on communicating with fans, so this is a real treat! You've probably been the closest person to the individual members besides their own families. I respect how you haven't sold them out, unlike some associates, so it's cool if you don't want to answer this. Is it true what Ken said, Lindsey never paid you for years of work you did for him? Is that why you and LB lost contact for decades? Ken's spin leaves that impression.

With all due respect to Ken, that is absolutely untrue. First of all, Lindsey was not only generous with his money to me but the time he spent educating me, being my mentor, best friend, & advocate, is worth far more than mere money. Please, I owe this guy for the fabric of my very life which would have looked a lot different if not for his creative efforts. I think a lot of other people owe him for this too, if they really look at it close enough & dig deep within their own soul. The differences Lindsey & I had which led to the bifurcation of our creative efforts together were far more complex than me not feeling I was paid or cheated by him in anyway. I wish I could explain exactly why we lost contact for years, I’m still trying to figure that one out myself, & will share with the class as soon as I have a clue. At this point, looking back, I am willing to take responsibility for any split in our relationship & harbor absolutely no ill feelings to Lindsey or any other band member for that matter. I am but humbled & privileged to have been a part, however small or large history relegates to me. Thanks for the question.

Ken has been more bittersweet towards Lindsey, it's clear that he doesn't like his personality. It's good to also read the stories from someone who has no problem at all with that same personality.

Realistically, even if there's truth to what Ken said, Richard's not going to throw Lindsey under the bus. Ken's got an ax to grind that's public knowledge, though- LInds wouldn't help him with his book and advised all of the other band members to do likewise - as per Ken, of course.

I love Richard Dashut, he's got to be a saint to answer all these questions.

I found it interesting that he characterized Tango as the most creatively fulfilling album he worked on with FM- that things were calm, that there wasn't a lot of craziness going on and that the drugs had definitely wound down. A different perspective on the making of that album for sure.

This photo of a young couple had surfaced on the internet recently claiming to be of Lindsey and Stevie in the early 70’s. Is it them?!

Yes. Judging by the way Stevie is holding her arms, and Lindsey is playing guitar, I am going to authenticate it. Plus I recognize Lindsey’s guitar from their early days of Buckingham Nicks.

I know. I had to chuckle when he said not to ask him what brand of cigarette Stevie was smoking, because the poor guy knew someone would.

I would ask him something a little silly, but not related to someone else's drug use. Like if if he got a kick out of Ricky. What a lovely, funny present to receive. Christine's voice, Lindsey's humor. Just perfect.

Yeah, I asked only 1 question- about his experiences during Out Of The Cradle, and the soul-searching nature of Lindsey's songs on that album. It was never answered. Instead, Richard has answered countless repetitive questions on the band's drug usage, and every single thing about Stevie & Lindsey's personal lives except a descriptive of their fart odors. I'm done with the blog- meaningful questions are being avoided in preference of the lowest common denominator.

yeah I don't think he's ignoring people, he's ignoring questions. And while he has answered some of my questions, he does indeed seem to be mainly focusing on the more 'titillating' stuff about S&L and feeding the shippers rather than talking about being a producer. Say what you will about Ken, but he did indeed talk about the crafting of the songs and how artistic choices were made etc. I almost wonder if Richard is still rebuilding his connections to the band and their circle and answering things in the way he thinks they would like them answered. Who knows. I will say though he has posted some fun pics of Mick and some nice pics of Chris.

It's total shipperville. But he did just say that he doesn't like talking about Stevie and Lindsey's love life with each other anymore because Lindsey is happily married with children and it's disrespectful to assume there relationship is anything other than within the scope of FM.

You see, Lindsey now has a beautiful wife & family. What was relevant quite a few years ago, is not necessarily relevant now. I do not want to say anything that will affect his wonderful family & home life, by bringing up certain past situations

yeah I don't think he's ignoring people, he's ignoring questions.

Oh, I know he's not avoiding people specifically-it's not possible since the questions are all submitted anonymously. I'm just totally flummoxed as to why he is categorically ignoring any sort of remotely substantive questions about his craft as a producer & engineer. Instead, he keeps answering rephrased versions of the same old tired relationship & drug questions that have been brought up in every FM related interview from the past 40 years.

Yeah, the whole shipper focus really turns me off. I'm just so very sick of that aspect of Fleetwood Mac. Their relationship lasted for less than a decade, and ended 40 years ago. LET IT GO. Lindsey has been with Kristin nearly 2 decades now. They have 3 children- one is nearly grown. Stevie banged half of the western world after she ended their relationship. Point being S&L both moved on decades ago.

Ik asked him a question about Lindsey's last three soloalbums and what he would have wanted to add to the sound of those....

Neglected... So far.

But it maybe was too painful for him.

He's more likely to ignore that question I would think. But is "Ricky" really about Richard Dashut? You know I never thought to make that connection, but it makes perfect sense.

Yes, it's a little present to him. Since he talked about the pie fight, I thought he might answer that question. Michele

feeding the shippers rather than talking about being a producer. Say what you will about Ken, but he did indeed talk about the crafting of the songs and how artistic choices were made etc.

while i agree that there seems to be a bit much catering to shippers on that blog (to put it mildly!), it is entirely possible they ask him the most questions. shipper community seems to have hugely grown since AHS airing (my Say Goodbye intro video from Vegas has almost 38000 views! that's intro only, no song! who do you think is watching that?!?). also, the time Richard lived with them, Lindsey and Stevie actually were a couple.

i asked one question in several different ways, and he finally answered it when someone else asked it again. so maybe he's answering questions that he gets the most?

either way, if you've been reading, he's been very clear, re-iterating several times, that if you want to know about the technical side of making music - Ken is your man. but if you want to know more about the life of the band, behind the scenes and more personal stuff, Richard's blog is a place for you.

after all, Richard was Stevie's and Lindsey's (and then only Lindsey's) roommate for at least half a decade if not longer, from the time they were complete unknows through the time they became rock gods and millionaires. he was paying their rent when they were dirt poor (that contradicts Stevie's long-standing story a bit, doesn't it?). he was Lindsey's best friend for years. he was self-admitted jack-of-all-trades for the band including shoulder to cry on and relationship counselor. he was not just a technical hired hand.

I've asked maybe 8 to 10 questions, and only one of them have been answered. All of my questions relate to the music, and if you look at the blog, most of the questions have nothing to do with that. So ask him something about the band's or his drug use. He's bound to answer that. That's all most people seem to ask about or care about.

And I've asked about 7-8 questions a day, persisting with some of them multiple times. I would say he usually answers about one of those a day, on average. About half those questions relate solely to SnL and the others are more general and/or music-related. I also try asking half while logged in and half as anonymous. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason as to which of mine he answers, though timing comes into it. Certainly, I know for a fact that he's ignored lots and lots and lots of SnL related questions (not even particularly nosy or personal ones) in favour of answering things like 'did they have birthday parties for each other?' or 'what shoes is lindsey wearing?'

There are a lot of questions being asked, apparently, and I certainly wouldn't get worked up over ONE not being answered. I've asked about the OOTC songs as well; also not answered. It's not a big deal, tbh. He'll get to one of them, or one like it, eventually, I would say. Yes, I think he answers too many questions on certain topics but it's HIS blog and his prerogative.

And I'm sorry but are you implying SnL's personal lives are the LCD? I don't think we need to have some trophic level system going on wherein Pure Music is up top, and anything technical is sooooo much better and more valuable. Some people find it hard to separate the personal/music (SnL, for one...) and ask accordingly. I mean, there can be LCD questions from both ends. Would you say asking 'What's your favourite song on Tusk?' is any 'more' of a 'good' question than asking his opinion on, say, how SnL have changed or stayed the same over the years, both personally and musically?

yeah I don't think he's ignoring people, he's ignoring questions. And while he has answered some of my questions, he does indeed seem to be mainly focusing on the more 'titillating' stuff about S&L and feeding the shippers rather than talking about being a producer. Who knows. I will say though he has posted some fun pics of Mick and some nice pics of Chris.

People are acting like him ignoring some questions is a real personal affront. He's explained he can't get to everything. There's every chance, to my mind, that it's not even him picking the questions, tbh - but that Stacy selects them, sends them through to RD, he answers, and Stacy posts. We don't know for sure his method of posting. Believe me, there have been WAY more interesting, 'titillating' things he could've said or answered about SnL, to be honest. I cringe when people ask nosy questions about things like 'were they noisy?' but I don't think most SnL focused questions are like that, to be frank, and I think they are important in helping fans build a bigger picture view of the people behind the artists, as well as getting an insight into the music. I know lots of people are well able to divorce the music from the personal behind it, but I find them locked in tight and enjoy any information about the people that impacts the music and lyrics they produce.

And yes, he's posted plenty of pictures of the various members of the band which have been lovely to see. Looking forward to more.

It's total shipperville. But he did just say that he doesn't like talking about Stevie and Lindsey's love life with each other anymore because Lindsey is happily married with children and it's disrespectful to assume there relationship is anything other than within the scope of FM.

I think you're overstating it somewhat. I'd suggest looking at the past 25 questions or so and adding up those actually about SnL, personally.

And that's an interesting interpretation of what he said, one I don't entirely agree with, tbh. I don't think he's saying it's disrespectful to assume that, and I think he was backtracking somewhat from what he said earlier when he answering about the present day relationship. SnL themselves pretty freely cop to their relationship not being in those sole confines of Fleetwood Mac. I think you'll be hardpressed to find many people who genuinely think their relationship is the same as theirs with other members of the band. Their own history (not even touching present day stuff) pretty much guarantees that.

Oh, I know he's not avoiding people specifically-it's not possible since the questions are all submitted anonymously. I'm just totally flummoxed as to why he is categorically ignoring any sort of remotely substantive questions about his craft as a producer & engineer. Lindsey has been with Kristin nearly 2 decades now. They have 3 children- one is nearly grown. Stevie banged half of the western world after she ended their relationship. Point being S&L both moved on decades ago.

I think it's more than likely that he gets more questions of the drug/relationship kind which increases the chance of them being answered. In addition, I'm sure he's aware those personal posts get more attention/likes than the technical ones. No one is averse to wanting that. And can we not blanket categorise all SnL related questions as UNsubstantive.

Not all people asking about (or even interested in) Stevie and Lindsey's life (lives?) and relationship are 'shippers'. Not all 'shippers' are praying night by night that Lindsey drops Kristen and he and Stevie run off to a house in Wales to not just write music, for goodness' sake. One can be interested in that dynamic and how it affects the music. One can be interested in their past and how it's been reconciled and explored in the context of their future. One can find their rather unique situation intriguing and want a more 'insider' view on it.

Their relationship was not limited to the 60s/70s, for goodness' sake. I think there's every chance even their 'romantic' relationship wasn't even limited to that and Stevie professes that she only knew it was over when his first child was born. Certainly, a relationship is more than sex, and the love is there, albeit expressed in a different way these days, perhaps. I also STRONGLY disagree that Stevie and Lindsey have moved on. From some things, yes. From some elements of that relationship, yes. But from each other? No.

I could give a buttload of quotes here to express what I mean but I think this will suffice. Note how she directly compares the length of her ROMANTIC relationship with Mick (though I think that's inaccurate too) to the length of her (???) relationship with Lindsey.

Our relationship didn’t last a long time, Mick’s and mine. It was a year. And Lindsey’s and mine’s relationship lasted from when we first met in 1968 and I joined his band up until now. Mick and I will be best friends when we’re 90. But Lindsey’s and mine’s relationship is different.

More complicated?

Much more complicated, yeah.

I think the quote in my signature (also from that set of interviews last year) sums it up well. They both still write and sing songs about one another, express a desire to sort through **** which hasn't been worked out, treasure when they can 'remember' what it was like before and re-embrace that, and so on.

Like the eyes to the soul / From across the room,
And the crowd fades away / And we stand alone,
Just like nothing’s changed / After all these years,
But it’s still the same
And you’re not to blame / No you’re not to blame

Well, my heart still stops / When I stand before you
And my heart still breaks / When you take my hand
And my eyes still close / When someone speaks your name
And you understand / It’s all the same

She does still hear him
All night long
The same song over and over
It heals her heart
No voice of a stranger
Could play that part
It broke her heart
Broke her heart

He was in fact producer on almost a half dozen Mac albums and on several of Lindsey's solo albums, and he is an engineer by training, so it's a little disingenuous of him or us to think that he's not technically knowledgeable or artistically knowledgeable because he was intimately involved in the creative decisions about Mac music-- and it would be interesting to hear his take on all that. However he may be more comfortable talking about the other stuff, and that's his prerogative, as has been said, it's his blog.

But it is curious that he just doesn't answer questions about OOTC. It's a GREAT album, people love it, and he was coproducer and even cowriter on some songs. It does kinda stick out like a sore thumb that he doesn't remark on it in any way. Again, totally his call but I don't think it's unfair to note it or comment on it.

It will be curious to see how that might change over time…

Richard says feels honored to be treated like a 6th member of the band and he is not just a technical hired hand. Obviously he was emotionally more than that, having lived with Lindsey and Stevie and essentially lived with ALL of them during the production of the various albums. And he responds just like a member of the band. I noticed every time anyone questioned him about any of the books written about the band, he's never read them. ;) That's a company line. I suspect they have all read the books (whether or not they paid for them is another story). I think his answers are careful. He does "walk a thin line." Unlike Bob Welch, who gave his unvarnished answers to "the punters" without regard to any band members feelings, perhaps Richard may have another role to play with this band in the future. Stranger things have happened.

^Yes. I've mentioned before I think he may be trying to reconnect with the band in some working capacity and seems to be answering in band-approved ways. We just ought take the blog for what it is. The photos however are really great and of course never before seen anywhere which makes it pretty cool.

if you read the rest of what i wrote (as well as what Nicole wrote) you'd have your answer:

because he is probably not asked nearly often enough about stuff like OOTC and Lindsey's solo work!! if we are curious and want certain answers, seems like we need to keep asking him for our questions to get through and he'll eventually answer.

Nicole said she's been sending him 7-8 questions a day, for days. your one question about OOTC gets lost among all hers about Stevie and Lindsey. few people interested and asking questions about Lindsey's solo work probably get way out-competed.

i don't care too much about deeply technical stuff since that's not my field and i wouldn't understand it anyway, but i do care about the process of shaping ideas into music, who came up with what and why. when somebody told the story about Lindsey writing down a sentence on the piece of paper, and then tearing that paper into individual words and giving everybody in the studio a word to build a part of a verse around it, i thought that was a great story (don't remember who told that story and whether it's even true?). i also care about what is behind certain personal stuff / statements that people like Ken managed to make about Lindsey, in particular.

personal stuff like Lindsey's worn out shoes and holes in his shirts and whether he cares about material wealth / appearances is also interesting to me. first because it's hard not to notice, and second because it shows a glimpse into the man shaping the art.

Richard actually wrote some parts of Mick's book. the parts that i personally loved reading - like the one about their first tour supporting the white album, when they were driving their own equipment in ratty old cars, windows down, listening to the music, loud. Mick says in his book that he was using Richard's descriptions since he could never write that vividly himself.

that seems to be a definite path to getting an answer. Maybe there are just so many questions in the pile it's hard to dig back through them all so they just grab the ones right off the top and figure they'll try and get to the others later…? anyway, he's answering still answering every day so that's good. I'm waiting for more photos though. Those give an interesting window into the behind the scenes life of the band.

I'm the same regarding certain questions/topics, and basically ask about it/them once a day and only once as I don't want to be too irritating. I try and wait til he's online and then post as many questions as I can at once, lol, some as myself and some as anonymous. I love that Richard has established this blog. It's almost like a living, interactive biography. He's so humble and honest, and he's sharing intimate private photos that have never been seen in public.

I'm socially media challenged. I joined Tumbler and have a password, but I have no idea how to become interactive in order to ask Richard an insightful question, once I have one.

He's been very diplomatic and patient with all the questions thrown at him. Most of the questions and comments are intelligent, high-minded and insightful, others are so inane, show a lack of class, and pander to tabloid journalism. What a waste of an opportunity!

So many obsessive questions about cocaine and their drug habits. And generally useless questions like "What is Stevie like?" One question was "Do you think Stevie and Lindsey will get back together " Another asked Richard "When will you stop taking drugs?" He smokes pot, leave him alone!; he's not there to be judged and morally castigated. He has a hell of a lot patience than I could ever muster.

Okay, now that I've blown off steam, can anybody share what I have to do to be able to post a question? Thanks ahead!

well, with regard to Richard and being careful in his answers so as not to upset the band:

Anonymous: Richard, what is your sense of how the band feels about people around them writing books about them? I mean when Mick wrote his book band members were not happy about it he (Mick) admitted that Lindsey felt that his writing about certain things was "disloyal". Given that, do you think any of the other band members will ever write their own books about their lives? Thanks for reading my question!

Depending on what you say it can be very disloyal. Mick & Lindsey have had a bit of history with a contentious relationship at times. Mick’s books probably just inflamed that. As far as Ken’s book goes, let me quote one of the band members whom I shall not name. “Ken didn’t exactly do himself any favors with the band when he released that book”. I can imagine I will receive some flak myself for creating & writing (along with Stacy) this blog from the band, although I’m trying very hard not to cross the line of taste & trust.

As far as writing their own book? Yes, I believe some of or all of them will eventually get to a book. It’s very emotionally healing & rewarding. Helps justify ones life I suppose. Hell, I already know I’m a legend in my own mind?

I give him credit for doing the blog anyway.

Contrary to my username on here, I'm not a S&L shipper. It's just a play on the combination of their names. Not that I'm completely disinterested in their past relationship, mind you. I just don't see them two getting together again these days because they've moved on from the...how do I put this... leftover wanting-to-do-it-vengeful-painful side of that relationship. These days, they seem to be more of the 'I remember how painful and frustrating it was and let's fix it so we're not still bitter about it' mind. Seasoned with a bit of platonic love spice and a hint of familiarity.

I don't mind that some people still like to ship. But I haven't and didn't ask Richard any questions that pertain to anything of the sort. And I know that nobody asked me. I just felt like getting it out there. I don't know I'm weird like that.

Anyways...
It might seem that Richard is picking and choosing the questions based on certain subjects but I really think it has to do with how often those type of questions are being asked. And if they're sent in at the times he is online/top of the pile.
One thing I found interesting was that instead of answering my question about the recording of Mirage in the Chateau, he posted a picture of Lindsey recording vocals during that time. Maybe Richard doesn't like to answer when he's not too sure of his memories?
It just seems a little odd that the band doesn't comment too much on the Mirage and Tango sessions. Were things really that bad at those times that they keep hush-hush about it? Or was it boring and there's not much to tell besides the infamous fight at Chris' house?
Perhaps it's all about sticking with the cash cow Rumours.

Yeah I'm more interested in the off-beat, silly and creative process stories. The one's we haven't heard about.
I asked him about the Curry Grant/Stevie thing because I saw it in the forums here and thought I'd help the Ledgies get an answer. :)

Great post! Change your name to McNickingham. lol
I have no problems with SN and LB relationship talk either. The fact is they do write a lot about each other in music and lyrics. 1. It sells! And it has sold a lot. Clearly, there are a lot of people that buy into that whole relationship business. It's a romantic story. 2. They truly have a muse for each other, and creativity is sparked from it. All the writers in this band have great chemistry. It is amazing how much Lindsey and Christine collaborate together and the music they have produced. Another relationship of chemistry.

I simply believe there is zero romance between Stevie and Lindsey, other than within the scope of the music. As I posted earlier, Richard's quote clearly says to me that he's uncomfortable bringing up, "past situations" which aren't necessarily relevant today. I think if you asked him a question about their chemistry within the confines of the band he would have no problem answering them. As he has in some cases already in the blog. But to insinuate anything else, as he stated, "affects the beautiful wife and kids" that Lindsey has in the current day.

I think there is a lot to be said of the Tango and Mirage sessions. Seems like that's when LB had some serious issues with Stevie's drug use, fame, and lack of presence during the albums. Obviously, this all led to him leaving. I find that period interesting, too.

He did post that one pic of the two of them during the making of Tango and it kinda speaks to some of that-- Stevie clearly looks bloated, bit overweight, bags under the eyes, cigarette burning in her hand…. She looks like "something the cat dragged in" as my mom would say. He looks unusually preppy (for LB) in his khakis. You can sorta see in his face as he looks at her that part of him might be thinking "wow, you're a bit of a mess, aren't you?" I was a little surprised he posted the pic only because it's definitely not Stevie at her best. She had been through rehab by then (for coke) but was in the early Klonopin years. I'm sure there were worse photos around Mirage.

Yes, I've been keeping up with the Dashuts. I saw one of Christine singing during Mirage, as well. That Stevie photo was one of the most unflattering I've ever seen. She looked very very tired.

To me it looks like a pre-Betty Ford pic. Stevie has said she came back to the US from playing with Bob Dylan & Tom Petty in Australia, spent 10 days in the studio with Fleetwood Mac, and then began rehearsing for the 'Rock A Little' tour.

She did more recording with Fleetwood Mac later on, but my guess is that this pic was taken sometime around those 10 days.

Hmm.. he said this was during the making of Tango… and that has Welcome to the Room, Sara which was about Betty Ford, so….. hard to know the exact timing. Right before or right after rehab anyway!

Mr. Dashut just posted some commets about Stevie's song "Lady" from the upcoming 24 Karat album. In my opinion, his response confirms something I suspected about the purpose behind his doing this blog: Besides being a way for him to interact with fans, I wonder if he's using his responses -- and his knowledge of what the fans want -- to subtly lobby for a participatory role on the next FM album.

If that's what he's doing, I'm all for it! Here's the comment of his that makes me think he's trying to hop on board the upcoming album:

"As far as “Lady” goes, I really love the song a lot. Wonderful lyric & feeling. Reminds me of the way Stevie used to write, very sincere coming off the piano like that. However, it is probably about a minute too long & I think under produced. I really wish Lindsey & I together could have produced this one & gave it the time I think it deserves. I believe it could be a major song for her, even with the deep, mature voice. Use the piano feel for the main part, but dance in some of Lindsey’s guitars around her voice, background voices deluxe in the choruses & a concise arrangement,……. bingo! Can you say hit boys & girls?"

Thank you for being a voice of reason.

I don't know if he wants to work with him again, but I agree with you that he is still trying to mend fences. He at times lays it on a little thick with the "Lindsey is the world's greatest musical genius and I would have absolutely no life without him". I take his point, and I gather he feels he might have been ungrateful about the opportunities working with LB afforded him, but a couple of posts made me a little uncomfortable for him. I dislike seeing people grovel. Mind you I'm only talking about a couple of posts, and I do think his gratitude is absolutely genuine, but taken altogether he is definitely about publicly making up to LB for whatever happened.

From the totality of his posts it seems clear that he felt slighted or maybe unacknowledged for his work and maybe a bit taken for granted by the band (a situation LB talks about regarding himself)-- he did a lot for them personally--and now, after a few years of distance, the effects of age, etc he has taken a different perspective and has chosen to look at things through the lens of gratitude and sees the blog as a vehicle for expressing that.

Some of his comments are so sycophantic they make me want to give him a good shake. Love reading his answers though and the pictures are just brilliant.

Having asked a couple of unanswered questions here and there I decided to bombard him with about a dozen questions in a row. Despite some really good questions about his working relationship with Ken, songwriting, his views on Behind The Mask and so on he finally answered my most mundane question about whether he'd ever come close to an affair with any of the women in the FM circle. That seems the best way to go- a range of different types of questions all sent together at the same time.

I've asked several silly questions, which he has answered. (No shipper questions - other people are covering that area). To me, questions about producing and album details and whatnot seem like homework. Like asking someone to do an Algebra problem from middle school…

I do understand the frustration about not having questions answered! Everyone is so excited about having a true insider resource, it’s easy to become frustrated when questions you would love to know the answer to, possibly have wondered about for years, get overlooked and/or go unanswered. (Especially when it’s something more relevant than Stevie cleaning the house or smoking cigarettes).

He probably enjoys all the attention and questions coming in. Most people like to talk about themselves and their interesting life experiences…If this man wants to smoke pot all day and talk about the "good old days" then so be it. I’m enjoying it!

The pictures are an absolute godsend; some wonderful stuff.

The bombarding thing is what I do now. About six to ten questions a day and all of them as soon as I see him answering a question or two in a row. Half-anon, half with my name. Half SnL intensive, half more general and him-focused. I very occasionally get an answer but not usually. I'll take whatever he's willing to give in terms of answers, though, even if I find some questions a little inane. I'm sure people would find mine nosy and dull too so... :D

I suspect the approach of bombarding him with questions is not going to endear him to you. Be grateful you got a response to a superfluous question.

I'm trying to come up with a substantive question that doesn't concern gossipy subject matters like sex or drugs, which seems to be the preoccupation of most of the questioners. I want to ask something related to his own character, musical tastes, perspective on adapting to a new world order in music and otherwise, etc...a question that is not so personally intrusive or tabloid-like.

I have yet to come up with anything yet. But I'm going to be careful to try to construct a question that might elicit a positive engagement and thoughtful response. What he is doing is really amazing. I want to be respectful.

What were the other questions you asked but weren't answered? I want to get a feel for types of questions he's more inclined to answer.

Well, a few days ago I asked about ten questions in a row all at the same time. Six of those questions have been answered over a period of three days;

Three of them were answered at roughly the same time;

'Hey Richard. Did you try hitting on Carol Ann Harris before Lindsey?'

'Dear Richard, Do you receive royalties for all the songs for which you are credited as a co-writer?'

'Dear DickDash, Sorry to pry- I was wondering what your pay arrangement was? Did you receive a monthly wage or did you receive money as a percentage of album sales/ticket sales etc thanks'

The following day one more of those questions was answered;

'I was wondering about Stacy B. She looks quite young. Is she a Fleetwood Mac fan. Was she a Fleetwood Mac fan before you met? Did she know who you are when you met?'

And the following day two more of those questions were answered;

'Hey Richard, Cool blog. I understand Lindsey has a bad temper. I read that Lindsey once attacked Ken in the recording studio. Was you there at that time? Cheers'

'Did you ever tell Lindsey his Tusk songs were a bit wacko (which most people generally thought at the time). Or could you see what he was getting at straight away?'

I've also asked him a number of times about his relationship with Ken. I have wondered why they didn't do more work together (away from FM). They seem like very different people and hung out a bit in the early days I get the impression it was less so later on. I get the impression Ken was a bit more aloof from the band. It seems as if Richard doesn't want to answer questions about his relationship with Ken.

I see that someone recently asked his opinion on how long Fleetwood Mac would continue and if we could expect that this latest tour and possible album would be their last project. Dashut's answer seems to be essentially "probably, so go see them while you can." Then again, one never knows, the Rolling Stones keep soldiering on..and on...and on... I made a joke to someone recently that it was my theory that Keith Richards has actually been dead for years and what we see at shows is either his spooky reanimated corpse, or his desiccated husk attached to marionette controllers and puppeteered through a performance by two specially trained roadies. I could be wrong, but hee hee, have you seen the guy lately? (I kid, I kid, now I've probably gone and upset someone) ;)

So lacking is a sensitivity to what Richard is doing; no sense of empathy or consideration for the time and effort it takes to handle so many questions. I'm impressed how he handles the most banal or inappropriate ones with such aplomb; he's unflappable.

It's really a waste to ask questions about individual band members personal opinions/interactions - usually related to sex and drugs. He's not their mouthpiece, and he has shown a lot class by dismissing those questions in a polite manner. In this era of social media, some people seem to think there are no barriers.

You can only get so many of the same questions asked in about 100 different ways before you get tired of answering it. Like you said, those early questions were about sex and drugs asked in several different ways. Maybe now all that is left is to answer the odd question about a particular production trick in a song, which is what I'd like to see much more of as well.

Yay!!! I got one answered finally!!

Anonymous: Hi Richard & Stacy. People keep asking if Christine and Lindsey have ever slept together. I've always thought they were like brother and sister or even more importantly great collaborators. I have read that they are writing new music together and stated that their chemistry is better than ever. Did you ever witness this great chemistry between Christine and Lindsey musically? Thanks for the great blog!

Yes, all the time during the records I made with them. Lindsey is so brilliant musically and Christine so amazing with melody and lyric. The symbioses between the two, is an artistic Yin & yang, a divine balance as it were. What makes it so special is how natural the two flow their creative energy in the same direction, different colors, but one painting. Magic really. Thanks for the great question.

Not sure if anything about this has been posted, nor do I know the reputation Richard has here on the forum, but I was curious anyway.

I was reading his tumblr blog "Truth and Consequences". A question and answer I read on there really caught my eye. Someone asked, " So do you think this will be the final tour of the whole band?", and this was his simple response:

"Yes I do, after this current touring cycle, my gut instinct tells me yes. See them while & if you can. I know it is not cheap, but history marches toward us fast & bucket lists can be easily knocked over."

Do you think this will in fact be the last tour for the band? I'm sure people think that after every tour though. I was under the impression that the band was really excited about the potential of the new material, and that there would be another new tour to promote said new music.

I just don't get the impression that this will be the last? Christine especially seems to have had her vigor and passion for the band reignited.

Thoughts?

While plans can certainly change (especially if, perish the thought, there are additional health issues), I believe that the band has every intention of touring again after the new album is finished. Mick, Lindsey & Christine have all certainly intimated as much. While Stevie's rush to record and release '24 Karat Gold' now, as opposed to simply holding off until after the tour, also implies that the band has post-'On With The Show' plans.

Sure sounds that way, doesn't it? I have a sneaking feeling this upcoming album will be the last, though. Stevie just doesn't seem to be interested in that aspect of Fleetwood Mac anymore. However, I still see the band continuing touring for the next 5-10 years so long as their health permits it.

I do have to wonder if Richard Dashut has some inside information we aren't privy to, though. The scenario that keeps running through my mind is Richard is saying this will be the last tour because of John's health. Just think about it- if John's cancer was terminal, John would absolutely NOT want a fuss made about it. He'd want to do one last tour with Christine, then retire out of the public eye. This would also explain Christine's sudden unexpected return to the band. I truly, truly hope I'm way wrong on this of course. :(

That thought made my spine shiver and not in a good way.....I think there could be a strong element of truth in it.....It would explain Christine's return you're right..I also hope that this isn't true.

That’s not at all how I see it. I agree that Stevie wasn’t interested in doing another Fleetwood Mac album, but that was another Fleetwood Mac album without Christine. I think Stevie’s three year plan last year was to finish the Fleetwood Mac tour, do a solo tour, make a solo album, do another solo tour, and go back on the road with Fleetwood Mac. But then Christine came back. That’s why she rushed to finish an album of leaked demos while Christine was getting reacclimated to being in Fleetwood Mac. Stevie wasn’t blowing off Fleetwood Mac, she was fulfilling her solo obligations so she could dedicate the next undetermined number years to the band. Now that Christine’s back and Stevie’s obligations have been met, on with the show.

As far as John’s health impacting Christine’s decision, if anything, it solidified an idea she had been toying with for two years. Christine wanted the camaraderie and to be making music again with her old bandmates before she ever got on the plane to Maui, to be sure. She just apparently didn’t know how to tell them she wanted back in, and still wasn’t completely sure she was ready to for that type of commitment. I see John’s diagnosis as being her wake-up call, her Ghost of Christmas Future, and made her realize that she couldn’t pussy-foot around if she wanted back in (hence the interviews where she said she'd come back, if they'd ask her).

wow, someone really laid into Richard on his blog about how dare he call himself Stevie's friend and that he's vile for answering any questions about Stevie's personal life (honestly he hasn't answered anything not already in the public domain, he's declined to answer the really prurient nosey stuff). THe person goes on to say they hope Stevie really socks it to him and calls his blog a rag blog and on and on. He's been pretty calm with the few comments like that so far but he kinda responded with both barrels in his own way. I mean he said he would absolutely shut the blog down if Stevie asked him to--she wouldn't have to sue him or whatever the person said. He usually posts pretty routinely throughout the day but doesn't seem to have posted anything since this person blasted him yesterday.

Richard has been pretty tactful in the questions his chooses to answer - and he's eager to say "I don't know" if it's information that he doesn't know/doesn't feel comfortable sharing.... this person is going way over the top with their bashing of the blog.

And believe me, if Stevie cared, it'd be down by now.

Wow, does Carol Ann Harris have an attitude or what…

Someone mentioned on Richard's blog that Carol had posted a picture of Stevie and claimed it was herself.
Richard said well we'll post here and see what the story is and be fair.

So it's not clear if he then contacted Carol, or if she's following his blog and saw it herself, but seems she claims she couldn't tell if the photo was her or Stevie, and that the couch in the photo is one she still has so thought it was a photo of herself she'd never seen before (given to her by a pal).

Instead of graciously admitting, Hey, I'm human, I effed up, my bad, thanks for pointing it out she instead gets all immature and huffy and says:

"I just deleted the stupid photo that literally no one could tell if it was Stevie or me and as she’s my friend - this is what I said before I deleted it: About the photo: I was floored when I saw it and if I couldn’t tell it wasn’t me, then neither could she but I think it is her….hard to tell, but whatever. I love posting a picture of Stevie too - but I doubt if she could even tell…but let’s just say it’s Stevie and I’ll delete the whole thing. It looks like it could be either one of us - and I don’t really care. It’s a cool picture and if you read my posts above, I was floored by it. But who cares??? I’m over it…yes, we look alike, yes we have the same birthday and YES we are friends and have 2 different personalities and (now) lives. xxooxx”

No harm done though it was a little amusing at the time.

ok, first of all, how old is this woman? And yet she responds in language like a teenage girl.

I hardly think she and Stevie are "friends" but ok. They certainly knew each other for years. But the 'we look alike, we have the same birthday, we can't tell ourselves apart' is a bit much. It just made me think, "live in the past much?" The piggybacking on other people's fame is just sad. Richard talks about the band too, yes, but he actually was a record producer, he was NAMED ON THE GRAMMY for album of the year. I don't mean to be harsh, but really, what is her claim to fame? Boinking Lindsey?? If she has her own career, talk about that, and not who you shagged 25 years ago.

Just to be clear, the response from CAH was what she wrote MONTHS ago when people first questioned the picture she had been sent and then posted. She blocked me awhile ago (saying I am seriously obsessed, on a trip, have a freak blog, that I'm weirdly jealous and engage in fan worship, that I likely have serious mental issues and that I should crawl back under my rock. FWIW) so I don't know if it got brought up again today but the stuff you bolded? Was from ages ago.

Yes, I'm aware it was there. *I* sent that post as a submission to clarify what had occurred re. that photograph because the anon had implied something which didn't really happen and I don't hold with that. The photograph was posted and then it was deleted, and that comment posted within a few hours. That all happened MONTHS ago.

Yeah, she said all that. I actually wouldn't have known because even though she tagged me and called me out by name on her Facebook, I got immediately blocked so I had to rely on others to tell me what she said.

This open response I wrote up the day my blocking occurred should cover most of the bases you're interested in. To sum up, though, I think what happened was that I commented on her FB page (for maybe the second time ever). She LIKED that post. Then some people who are aware of both my FB identity (real name) and my Buckingham Nicks tumblr sent her messages telling her that I spend my time trashing CAH on my blog. I am willing to admit occasionally calling her a liar and laughing at some of her posts but I've never been particularly vicious. Anyway, she went off on her Facebook about it. Finally, I had to tickle him first, but he answered my questions!

shackinupnl :
Hi Richard, Ofcourse you can't answer every question, but something puzzles me. You answer questions about who did it with who in FM, if S&L ever talked about children, hair on asses and so forth. ( ofcourse also on very interesting topics). Recently I asked two questions: one about what your addition would have been soundwise on LB's latest three soloalbums, and how you would describe Lindsey's artistic vision that you refer to regularly. But no answers, until now.. Why? They're about art!

His answer:

Now this is a great example of good criticism & I accept it. I will take your comments into consideration & make changes if necessary. I have been surprised to see the ratio of human interest questions vs the high art & technical ones I expected. Perhaps in trying to answer back in proportion to the questions asked, I have gone overboard in my balance. I must admit, it has been fun to get a little more light & not so serious all the time, although I have covered a lot more of the artistic questions earlier & throughout this blog. There is a lot to read & see here, so it is understandable if you have not read it all & feel that way because of my recent focus on the human interest side. However, you deserve to have your question answered & I will try to provide more balance in the future.

First off, it’s almost impossible for me to know what his latest three albums would have sounded like with my influence, without me being there to react to his creative moves. So much for me is done without a plan and relies on the Zen of the moment. Having said that, I probably would have had a more inviting affect on the commercially minded Punters, adding my signature pop sound that I share with Lindsey when we worked together. In other words, I would have probably artistically screwed it up for the sake, at an attempt for radio play & commercial success.

As far as describing Lindsey’s artistic vision, why don’t you ask me a hard question? How about solid artistic rage funneled in to a single musical part, a passion for finding the right solution to a perplexing problem, keeping a song from reaching it’s full potential, a way of seeing things from the top of a creative mountain, when others see only from a repetitive, formula laden valley. The feeling that his next great musical moment is just around the corner & that you are witnessing a great moment in the continuum of music history. Or just hanging with a friend that always inspires you to be a better self than you ever could have imagined on your own. Simply put, the ability to look into a musically empty space from the future, drawing on the wisdom of the past & weaving a tapestry of musical notes, into a song of the present.

Hope this comes close to answering your question & thank you for your constructive criticism. All of us working together will make this blog worth reading, that’s the beauty of it.

I posted a question to Richard about the politics of another FM record, and here's what he thought:

Anonymous: Lindsey & Christine spent time earlier this yr together in the studio, and wrote or recorded together at least a dozen songs. In interviews they talked about an album dropping sometime early 2015. Stevie didn't join them, instead doing her own album. Now they're walking back any talk of when the next Mac album will drop. Stevie keeps saying she won't record w/ FM w/out Dave Stewart because he doesn't criticize her songs like Lindsey. Do u think she'll really not record w/ them now Chris is back?

No,I really believe that Stevie will record with Fleetwood Mac on this next record, Dave Stewart or no Dave Stewart. Perhaps a little of Lindsey’s creative criticism is just what’s needed to keep Stevie’s songs vital. (Just my opinion) Nobody is insensitive or self minded enough to deny the fans or history what it seemingly demands from the band, especially after Christine just re-joined and while the window of opportunity is still open. Time has a habit of ending the right circumstances quickly and the world is littered with missed opportunity. Sad. Now you see why I don’t miss this drama anymore, I actually did graduate middle school.

I asked him about Chris and the Senator too. He never answered the question. There's something in Mick's book about Fleetwood Mac doing a benefit for a senator back in the late 1970's. That senator was Birch Bayh of Indiana. He is now dead & he was a great senator, although not as great as Ted Kennedy. I have a feeling that senator with Chris was Senator Bayh.

Just catching up on Richard's blog posts.

Lovely picture of Lindsey and Christine looking out of the window of the chateau in France.

Also, nice picture of Richard, Lindsey and Billy Burnette embracing. Rare.

I think the question about whether Lindsey still swims competitively was hysterical. First of all, isn't he a little old for that? Secondly, if he did, wouldn't it have come out in an interview at some point. I mean, I think the world at large would be interested in the fact that the guitar player in a world-famous band spends competitively. Thirdly, wouldn't his tummy be a little flatter, if he did?

I liked reading that Lindsey listened to Prince. I have always wondered if he did and one time in particular I thought the way LB had the guitar mimic a vocal line seemed like he had heard Incense and Candles.

So rather interesting post today. Richard's assistant said Lindsey was a self-absorbed asshole on Twitter and someone asked him about it. Maybe Richard hasn't exactly written what happened when he left the band on his blog and Stacey knows much more? It's very weird that Lindsey was one of his best friends and Richard produced all of the albums, and now they not only don't keep in touch but Richard isn't recognized for his contributions. He wasn't even invited to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony. Makes sense that he might feel betrayed and that this is primarily Lindsey's doing. Might have come from that 1 hour interview when Lindsey didn't even mention Richard...

There are three sides to every story. I started out thinking Rich didn't haven any ulterior motives besides generously sharing his Times With FM, now, I feel he truly is reaching out for the bands (anyone of the 5) friendship or acknowledgement. This would explain him not answering questions that don't suit in fulfilling this mission. He answered the more controversial q's in the beginning to garner attention.

I'm not sure if he wants to be friends again in terms of hanging out and all, but I do get the sense that as they are all older, and he is in wobbly health, that he is thinking about history and legacy, and making sure that his contributions are documented and put out there. I think from various of his comments, and certainly very clearly from his comments about this recent LB interview, he (Richard) is peeved at the way Lindsey always talks as if he (LB) was THE sole creative force behind everything from Rumours onward, and that HE alone was the genius who made every song what it was. Both Richard and Ken are credited as producers on those albums and also have Grammys for them. The fact that Lindsey feels the need to play out his own insecurities about being overlooked as the 'visionary' he is leads him to just ignore anyone else's part. And to Richard that seems to be hurtful, a bit petty, and feels dismissive. I think, just my opinion, but from his comments what he wants more than anything is just a crumb of acknowledgement from Lindsey for his work over 15 or more years. Ironically it seems like Lindsey is doing to Richard what he feels the band always did to him (not recognize or acknowledge his hard work).

Agreed. Only one or two of mine have been answered as well. There are several that he keeps answering (such as the punter one you mentioned) or people simply saying hi or people asking about things to do in Vegas. Why not speak more about the music? I know I've asked those questions and am sure many others have as well.

So rather interesting post today. Richard's assistant said Lindsey was a self-absorbed asshole on Twitter and someone asked him about it.

yes. from what i could gather this happened:

Stacy is a really nice girl, who deeply cares about Richard.

LB gave that 1 hr interview that everybody on social media seems to think is one of his most interesting in the recent years. many people here were posting how they were surprised with his humility and openness, something they didn't expect.

meanwhile, a SN/FM fan posted on Richard's fb a somewhat leading post telling him he should listen to this great new LB interview, that he's talking about the making of Tusk. the way it was written the post was, probably unintentionally, hinting at maybe mentioning LB/RD work together on Tusk. it must have gotten Richard's curiosity up, wanting to hear what LB might have to say about him. something to consider is that Richard also said that before this interview he hasn't listened to any LB interviews (or other macsters) for the last 20+ years.

of course, LB didn't say anything different about Tusk in that interview from what he's been saying in every interview as well as in every single 4-song Tusk set intro during 2013 tour. he didn't take any more or less credit for the direction of the Tusk album than what's been given to him over the years. so Richard must have been disappointed, seemingly cause LB didn't talk about actual making of Tusk and what they did together. Stacy felt bad for him and fired off a series of tweets ranting how LB is obviously a self-absorbed jerk. i asked her about it cause i thought maybe LB said or did something to them, privately. she told me it's the interview, and to just listen to it and how shi*ty it is.

meanwhile of course, some of the documented social-media LB-haters caught on and started egging Stacy on. i guess they must have not liked all the positive views about LB that Richard's blog has been posting? so they happily piled on how LB is an asshole and they always knew it. next they started telling Stacy she'll have an angry mob of short-sided LB fans coming after her. of course nothing can be further from the truth, and it's sad how human nature works.

Richard has been trying to diffuse the situation since, among other posting this "As far as Stacy goes, I will let her respond on her own as I do not speak for her & she has her own opinions. I will however say this in her defense. We had a very rough day yesterday dealing with some important matters to some of our wonderful followers. Stacy also has to read through the hundreds of responses we get every week & some are not exactly gems shall we say, & can be rough on the psyche. We get so many opinions here on the different band members, that it gets hard to separate your own feelings from others after a while. "

one last thought about the interview and his responses: LB is never normally interviewed by a fan, someone as knowledgeable about his work as this interviewer was. he's usually asked the most non-relevant questions that interviewers think will sell the articles, as we know. he's almost never asked relevant questions about his solo work, even when he's promoting it. LB grew enormously musically in the last decade and gave us a lot of new music, more than he ever did in relatively short amount of time. he was finally asked about his last 3 solo albums (the ones Richard self-admittedly barely knew existed and never listened to yet). it was refreshing. and yet people feel the need to be all righteous and demanding he should have been asked and talked about production (stuff that even dickdash blog almost never addresses, cause they know where their following is coming from!).

Come on elle, what the heck.

1. The man has always been a selfabsorbed pompous ass to certain extend.
2. The man has always been an artdriven, softspoken insecure visionary to certain extend
3. The man tells the same stories for decades now. I listened for the full hour and there were some fresh insights, but they could be edited in to a 7 minute segment.

4. I've had enough of these discussions that are going on for decades. Blerghhh.

Just listened to this interview. I thought he came across pretty well actually. I like that he was quite self-deprecating and honest. In any interview a person can only ever answer the questions given to them. I don't really get where Richard/Stacey were coming from as the interview didn't really lend itself to mentioning Richard. Lindsey wasn't really talking about the album as a whole- more about his own approach to the album (and at the end of the day he was the driving force behind the direction it took, not Richard or Ken or the other band members).

I haven't kept up with Truth and Consequences. It sounds like Richard has gone backwards in his attempts to curry favour with Lindsey.

Exactly! Well put. Richard and Ken helped in creating the sound, but Lindsey was the one who put his neck out on the line (with WB and the band) to stay creatively relevant.

basically the only reason anyone is going ON about this interview and "praising" it/LB is coz it doesn't even sound like LB so it needs mentioning.

i'm not always up to date on RD's tumblr and haven't read any of Stacy's tweets but sounds like she didn't say anything not already well established as FACT in this fandom.

Well, it IS an excellent interview. But I've tried to read every breath the man has taken in the neighbourhood of a journalist since 1977, so it's not fair to judge it as repetative. It's all in the eye of the beholder. (me in this case).

I enjoyed it, just because I love to listen to this man. And he sounds like in a very relaxed and funny, selfaware state of mind. With humour and wit.

What I find most interesting is that I can't recall Lindsey mentioning Richard's name in any sort of press EVER. Lindsey just keeps to a very focused script when he's doing interviews. He generally only talks about the band itself, his musical influences, or his family when asked. And that's pretty much it. He's never gone into detail of the supporting characters.

I've heard him mention Richard in interviews and discuss things that Richard did, not in a praiseworthy way, but just in a conversational way.

I remember this one interview where he was talking about a game that Richard started where I think they were all supposed to think of lyrics, like you say a line and the next person gives the next line in the song and then you give the third line back and forth. I think Lindsey said that the game didn't really result in any good songs and was sort of stupid, but it did spark them creatively a bit and that Richard was always trying little experiments like that.

After the posts earlier, I was just looking at when Jim Ladd asked Lindsey about Bwana and the reference to Mick and he said that he and Mick had had a "tiff" and the song was already recorded and it had nothing to do with Mick, but

Richard Dashut who was helping me through the second phase of the album, said, "Why don't you go out and sing it sort of 50s style a little bit." And I went out. That started the singing a different way and really in a short period of time, a whole new melody evolved. At that point, the lyrics just sort of went with the new melody. Don't ask me how [laughter]. There's nothing really negative about Mick in there, it was just that it was on my mind at the time [more laughing].Mick and I are close enough to make reference to one another in songs without really having to worry about it.

So, you're saying that in the grand scheme of Lindsey's career, all you could recall Lindsey even mentioning Richard was regarding "Bwana." At least seven albums between them, numerous times sharing housing, and Richard running sound on tour for years, and all you could find was ONE mention on "Bwana?" Kinda proves the bigger point.

Looks like Tom Moncrieff will soon be on Richard's blog answering questions about S&L, the early days, Stevie demos, and whatever else anyone wants to ask. posted today:

rocknroll-gypsy7: So what can you tell us about Tom Moncrieff? Did he and Stevie ever have a little fling?

To the best of my knowledge, no. However there is no doubt they were very close friends, living in two places together as roommates. Tom met Stevie through me when Tom and I were roommates, sharing an apartment together when I first met them (S&L) at Sound City. They had no friends here in LA yet, and Tom quickly became close to both Stevie and Lindsey. Tom is also an excellent guitar and bass player, playing in the early Buckingham Nicks Band & on Stevie’s early demos. I actually have a nice surprise for all of you. After many years (about 25) Tom and I have been talking again, renewing our friendship. He has agreed to join our community and will be doing some writing on the early Buckingham Nicks days. I believe he is also willing to answer your questions and Stacy & I are setting that up soon. This is great for all of us as his memory of the early B&N days is excellent. You will be able to ask Tom this question directly soon, if not to personal? Thanks for your follow.

Richard had mentioned at one point that he has been back in touch with a couple members of the band (phone and text I believe he said) and there was some speculation that it was Mick and Christine. Now on his blog he says the band members he's been in touch with are Mick and Lindsey.

He doesn't elaborate at all on what they've talked about or how often he's talked to them but it's rather interesting that he and Lindsey are in some fashion back in touch.

As far as the joint goes, I don’t think so because John didn’t smoke pot and didn’t like it. The cap on the other hand I can neither confirm or deny, I just don’t know, probably just a prop for the pic?

Richard Dashut answered my question! See below.

He says IT IS Stevie and Lindsey in the picture!

------------------------------------------------------------

is this a picture of Stevie and Lindsey?

Hi Richard,

This photo of a young couple had surfaced on the internet recently claiming to be of Lindsey and Stevie in the early 70’s. Is it them?!

http://www.ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=49717&highlight=lindsey+stevie+wedding

Yes. Judging by the way Stevie is holding her arms, and Lindsey is playing guitar, I am going to authenticate it. Plus I recognize Lindsey’s guitar from their early days of Buckingham Nicks.

…..r

I'm not sure why we didn't "know" this. The girl I asked about it said it was her aunt's wedding in 1971....

The most offensive thing you can say to someone is to tell them how to think. My opinion is my business, not yours!

When people post things on the Ledge that I disagree with, I try to refrain from saying their opinion is wrong. Instead I like to tell them my different view and explain why I feel that way.

I completely agree with Elle about "thought police". There is a proliferation of them here on the Ledge. The thought police seem unaware how rude it is to tell someone to change their way of thinking. That is the job of psychiatrists only! It is not the job of Ledgies!

My post about thought police (see above) was not directed towards you Nicole. It was a general statement that I felt needed to be said about the attitude of some (not all) Ledgies that if you do not agree with them, then your opinion is invalid.

There are people who have replied to my thread "There will never be another Fleetwood Mac album" and "This is the best performance of Stand Back" flaming me for using a shorthand. I'm supposedly the world's worst because I left out the words "In my opinion" when I wrote my thread titles. How I express myself in writing is my business and the Ledge does not exist for members to criticise other members' poor written expression.

It is not just directed at me. I see other Ledgies heavily criticised by people regularly. Why? Person B disagrees with Person A, so Person A says you're wrong I'm right please change your opinion. This has to stop.

It stifles freedom of expression and it stifles debate.

It is a problem endemic to The Ledge.

You're right. It's not a problem endemic to The Ledge. In fact, where I live (Sydney, Australia) the media is dominated by two competing companies: News Corporation owned by Rupert Murdoch and Fairfax Media.

News Corp's newspapers and news websites are aggressively conservative, almost right-wing. We had a centre-left Labor government, last year before the federal election The Daily Telegraph ran the headline Finally You Can...KICK THIS MOB OUT.

Fairfax Media is moving towards being more of an online business. Their websites and newspapers tend to showcase the views of mainly left-wing opinion columnists.

The group think is all too familiar to me...

Myself, I am a card-carrying member of the Australian Labor Party. But that doesn't mean I always, no questions asked agree with my party's policies. Maybe 67% of time I do agree, but when in government the ALP have done some things I certainly wouldn't have done.

exactly.

will it be piling on or is it an attempt to counterbalance a lot of the stuff that's been put out there in recent years about LB (ref. Carol Harris, Ken Caillat, even Mick's book)? Calling LB his "mentor" and owing him "everything" certainly seems like it would be the latter.

I think it's about time someone give Lindsey a little more praise, especially now that he's a better person. Not saying that he was ever a bad person, but drugs can make you do things you might not ordinarily do. I'm about 3/4 through Caillat's book and he seems to enjoy bad mouthing LB more than anyone else. It seems to be that he hates having to give him any credit for Rumours even though we know it wouldn't have been possible without him. Not even close. I think Caillat is one lucky dick that practically fell into a river of gold and doesn't give enough credit to all of the people that made it possible. Seems to pick and choose. He even has hinted a lot so far in the book on how Stevie was so nice and sweet.... back then. So I'm waiting to hear about what he thinks now or what. This is just my opinion. We're all entitled to one. I think Lindsey is a genius. One of the absolute best guitar players as far as ability, but mostly creativity. Superb vision and crafting. I think Stevie is an excellent lyricist and unique vocalist. They are a top notch band in all areas. John is truly one of the best bassists of all time. FM is not FM without Christine and her voice, keys and Mick is a powerful, intense and impressive drummer. I love this band. I think Dashut deserves more credit for his contributions as well. It'd be cool if they worked with him again. Caillat can ride someone else's coat tails. Sorry, I think he's an ass. Plus, I could really give a **** about his personal life or his dog stories. The title of the book is on the making of Rumours and not an autobiography.

Holy crap! Good catch. I never made the connection, either.

Ricky fell off my radar years ago. I completely forgot that odd obscure gem.

Wasn't this thread initially about Richard Dashut's blog? It seems it derailed and devolved into a Ledgie squabble. But anyway...I finally was able to figure out how to post a question to Richard. (I'm social media disabled).

I thanked and praised him for what he was doing, and then asked him a question about another artist he has produced - Matthew Sweet. He is sort of flies under the radar but he's great singer/songwriter/guitar player who has been around since the late eighties.

He and the fantastic and seemingly ageless Suzanna Hoffs (of the Bangles) have, thus far, released three volumes of "Under the Covers." Each volume features songs from a particular decade- the 60s, 70s and 80s. Their musical references are impeccable. The 70s album covers Second Hand News, and the 80s album covers Lindsey's solo song Trouble.

Richard produced some of his earlier albums, but had no involvement with these cover albums. Cover albums can be cringe-worth and uneven. But these albums have a lot of integrity in honoring the artists. They sound amazing.

I actually think both Ken and Richard contributed a lot to Rumours, especially technically. Lindsey wasn't the engineering master in the studio that he eventually became, and Ken was.(Richard refers to Ken's technical prowess a lot). Lindsey had the ideas, but still needed input of others more experienced to get those ideas on tape. Also, if you believe Richard, he himself championed Dreams when the rest of the band didn't quite see its potential. And Ken talks about contributing the idea of creating a pre-chorus on the what you had/what you lost part of the song before going into the actual chorus. My point is, Lindsey didn't come up with everything, and Rumours wouldn't necessarily be the Rumours we have if he'd been solely in charge. There's nothing wrong with either Ken or Richard pointing this out.

I love Lindsey, but sometimes I think he's given (or claims) a little too much credit on those earlier albums. I recall Keith Olsen saying one of the things he did in the early years with Buckingham Nicks was work with Lindsey to try and get him to understand how to work with other musicians and folks in the studio….not his strong suit, at least not then. I think LB is a genius, but I think he can also get too insular, too self-referential and just like Stevie benefits from having an editor (but won't see it) Lindsey benefits from having another production opinion in the studio to keep him balanced (but doesn't see it).

When I read Ken's book that was what I thought he was getting at-- that Lindsey was sooo into his own opinions that it was challenging to work with him. Also, like Stevie, I think fame did go to Lindsey's head for a few years…..with everyone telling you how brilliant you are how could it not go to your head? I think he, like Stevie, got a bit hard to handle with the ego for a time. None of that bothers me as a fan, though, because I don't think any of them are perfect, and I am kind of fascinated to know what really went on behind the public facade and what it really took for these people to keep this band going all these years. Despite what they may say at times it was definitely a hot mess and totally dysfunctional.

As for Stevie being sweet and nice 'back then' implying that changed, Richard has said the exact same thing. Early in his blog he was pretty honest about how fame went to all their heads and how hard it was to go from being someone's best buddy to having to make an appointment with all the entourage just to get to talk to her. He's tempered that a little over time saying that when someone gets huge and famous and all these people start wanting things from you, you do develop a shell just to protect yourself but that deep down if she trusts you she opens up and that same sweet person is there.

Since Christine is the most disinterested party, I tend to believe what she says about Lindsey and Dreams. Of course, he worked on it with the other producers, but I believe his initial reaction was probably along the lines of what Christine said it was. I think that's why the band has given him credit for its sound. Of course, I'm sure he thinks he's amazing himself, but in this case, he wasn't even the first one giving himself credit.

Before we recorded Dreams, Stevie played it on the piano and Stevie is a self confessed non-musical person. She knows four chords on the piano, I think and as Lindsey always says, rightly, “yes, but they’re the right four chords” and she played the song for us and I thought to myself, 'I don’t know this sounds a little bit tedious to me it’s just going “ting, ding, ting ding” all the way through the song' and Lindsey, I suppose, in his great hindsight said, “no this is going to be wonderful. We’ll record it and build each section differently so that those four chords run all the way through.” Actually I think she only used three chords for this one but although they are the same three chords it doesn’t sound like it. It was actually our first number one, our only number one single in Fleetwood Mac history.

i don't really know what this means. he's given no written credit on those earlier albums - he is NOT listed as a producer there. he gets no money and no credit for all the producing work he did on those albums. he gets a tiny credit for his vision on Tusk liner notes, but no producer cut (is that correct?). the whole band is listed as producer together with other specific names on those 3 early albums.

after a while, it seems maybe in the 80s and certainly the 90s, after waiting for at least a decade to actually at least be given a nod by the rest of the band for what he actually did on those early albums, and not getting any, LB started talking about all that himself. it is sad that nobody else did, for so long - if what he, and Christine, and Richard say he was doing on those albums is true - and i don't see why especially Christine but i guess also Richard would be lying. and now Mick has finally been saying that too for the last few years, and also looks like he tried to make up for those early non-credits in his new book.

now, i'm just piecing all this together after the fact and there may be people here who have corrections on any and all of the above.

you're right, and I probably didn't express it as clearly as I should-- when I said credit I wasn't thinking of official credits or what was printed on an album sleeve, I was thinking in terms of taking/giving credit for the actual creative ideas that went into the production of the songs. Having 'the vision'. So by 'credit' I meant claiming or being acknowledged as having the vision of what the songs could become.

Maybe some of it is legitimate… that is, maybe at the time the band really didn't see or appreciate how big his influence on the sound was, and only in retrospect did they come to recognize it. I suspect the truth lies somewhere in the middle-- at the time he had a lot more vision and impact on the music than the others recognized, and at the same time maybe he is/was so focused on how much credit he *wasn't* getting and being hurt by that that he didn't see how much or how important the inputs were by other people. Both things surely have some validity.

agree.

also, something that keeps being brought up by a few people lately and made me think - most of LB's character seems to be publicly defined by 2 of his ex-girlfriends. both of whom keep going back and forth on how horrible vs how gorgeous / great he was or is. while i tend to believe some of both the good and the bad they say, it does not look like the most objective picture of anybody could be painted by their exes.

something like recent description from Leo Sawyer (i think) of Lindsey back in the day always bailing his friends and going out of his way to pick them up and drive them wherever they needed to go cause they were too drunk to do it themselves paints a different side of his character.

I would expect that Lindsey did get some production money for Tusk, in addition to what the other band members made.

I think by the time Tusk came out and certainly while preparing for Mirage, the band, they were all crediting Lindsey a lot for their sound and their production decisions, be they good or bad.

In 1982, even John was saying to Billboard that "without Lindsey in the studio, it was difficult to continue work."

1982 was the same year that Christine said, "Dare I say this with him present? I have a lot of respect for this man; I don't really imagine anybody else being able to do what he does with my songs."

And Stevie did that whole thing about Lindsey putting the magic into her songs and she didn't know how to thank him other than going up to him and giving him 10% ... she said that in 1980. That was the same interview where she called him dragon boy.

It seems like to some extent Lindsey thrives on the challenge of not seeing things the same way as others in the band. I think that kind of thing fuels his creativity even more. If everything went perfectly smoothly in the studio and no one had a different opinion to his we might not get as good a result.

Plus it seems like that's just part of his personality to some extent-- he likes being the provocateur, likes being a little contrary. He's not it would seem inherently a get-along, peace-maker sort of person. He's not a follower, he's a leader and seems stimulated by a certain amount of friction. Of course, when the friction becomes overwhelming, not so much fun.

He wrote two songs about Stephanie Nicks' lack of willingness to participate in recording a new album - Sad Angel especially and also to some extent, Miss Fantasy. She does remember him but she doesn't remember how much people other than Lindsey, that is, fans - want a new album!

I don't believe he challenges people just for the sake of a challenge. He has specific ideas and sensibilities. Lindsey likes to have control and work alone. Fleetwood Mac has the benefit of his musical talent/production skills, and his man-alone work ethic has served him well in his solo career. It must be so much easier to work alone, where the only challenges are his own.

I'm not so sure about that. The central theme of the Destiny Rules documentary is Lindsey's drive to push the band into an edgier sound, a larger format, and to redefine themselves without Christine. He even admits that he's a troublemaker. He methodically pushes people past the point where he wants to end up, anticipating they will backtrack to where he actually wants things to be. I'm not saying Lindsey does any of these things malevolently, quite the opposite. I think he just wants to expand the comfort zones and minds of both the band and it's followers. I think that's why during Say You Will he insisted on the double album, for Stevie to bring in freshly written material, and for Stevie to give other mixers a chance, etc.

Regarding Lindsey preferring to be in charge and work on his own, I do think that was true for a long time. However, I don't think that's true anymore. The past few years Lindsey has spoken of not wanting that responsibility of being a producer for Fleetwood Mac anymore, and of wanting to bring in various producers to see what they could do with Fleetwood Mac's sound.

Back to the topic of Richard's blog... I find it interesting how people are villainizing Ken, Richard, Lindsey, Stevie, etc. I'd agree it's safe to say Ken's book exhibited that he had a bit of a chip on his shoulder when it comes to Fleetwood Mac. Honestly, if I were him, I probably would too. It sounds like the band cast him off much the way they have so many of the supporting characters from earlier in their career: Judy Wong, John Courage, Richard Dashut himself, to former members like Bob Welch, and friends like Sara Fleetwood. Richard Dashut brought this up during the early days of his blog about how the band has insulated themselves from him, and how hurtful it was. He's softened his stance now, because it sounds like the band is talking to him about producing their new album.

Which brings up another topic- I have a strong feeling the band doesn't really have any interest in using Richard for their new album. After all, Lindsey's songs are apparently completed products, and Christine's are well on their way. Lindsey has spoken extensively about wanting fresh producers to see what they could do with the band's sound, etc. Instead, I have a feeling that the band is opening communication back up with Richard so they can influence what he shares on his blog. I truly hope I'm wrong, because the band really lost a vital part of what made their sound so magical when they parted ways with Richard and Ken.

i think Richard is being deliberately coy about that. but i agree with your feeling that they have no intention of using Richard, at least not for the most part.

i think Christine's songs are probably more complete than Lindsey's. his almost-complete songs i think are probably still waiting for SN's contributions (since 2012!), and are more in the state of It Takes Time than Sad Angel (which was completed in like 1-2 days (?) once SN selected it for release). while i don't think any of the songs they've done so far need much work (days and not months), it seems they didn't complete them because they wanted to give all band members the opportunity to mold and contribute to them, when they first started. songs with Christine, from 2014, might actually be those 8 songs they keep mentioning as practically done.

regarding Mick and Lindsey texting with Richard - if we leave all our cynicism aside, might that be only friendship, without ulterior motives? for one, if Lindsey was pushing his agenda on Richard's blog, Richard wouldn't be nearly as clueless about the state of that new album as he seems to be. and new FM album seems to be #1 item on LB's agenda these days.

I cant see FM ever using Richard as a producer again. I'd love it to happen but I just cant see it happening. I don't keep up with his blog but do read back through it every now and again. I don't see a great deal of evidence to suggest the band are really keen to recruit his services. Its sad to say but I think Richard still lives with (misguided) hope of working with them again.

Ken's book didn't always paint a good picture of Lindsey but in the main I think his opinions were balanced and he gave credit where it was due. I wonder how they'd get on now... Lindsey has mellowed so much I can see him getting on well with Ken (though I think those bridges are probably long burned).

Lindsey has mellowed to the point I think he's now very comfortable with the idea of collaborating with other producers provided they are the right person. I think he's shown that with his work with Mitchell Froome (and to a lesser extent his work with Trent Reznor).

Well, Lindsey and Ken were together in the last couple of years when Lindsey won some award… Les Paul innovator?? or some-such award. Ken was one of the presenters. The video is somewhere on youtube, at least that's where I saw it. Awkward is certainly one word for their interaction.

Ken has gone on to have other producing successes. His daughter Colbie Callait for one. Richard honestly never went on to work on anything that was a big hit based on the work he's listed in the blog. He seems to have been *asked* to work on a lot of stuff… Ken asked him to work with him on some big-name stuff (I forget now… some big, big names in the 80s) and he says Jimmy Iovine asked him to join his team with Shelly Yakus (this occurred during the making of Mirage in France when Jimmy had accompanied Stevie). He turned it all down, he says out of loyalty to the band. One suspects out of loyalty and/or risk of pissing off Lindsey. He seems on one hand to have some regrets about missing those opportunities, but then tries to be philosophical about it on the other.

It makes me think this is part of his eventual "breakup" with LB and some of his clearly negative feelings about their relationship. I think he feels partly like he gave up (yes, it was his choice) other professional opportunities out of some sense of loyalty to LB and then LB went and worked with other producers and left him out (Richard wrote he was rather hurt when LB worked with Roy Thomas Baker without him) and then moved on without him totally. Sort of like a woman who gives up her career to support her man and then he leaves her down the line anyway.

yeah Ken kept talking about himself and his daughter, instead, as is customary and would be normal, and as everyone else did, about the guy actually getting the award . and when he gave it to him he kinda kept his distance and then Lindsey finally just said something that looked like "oh come here" and hugged him.

edit / additional thoughts: i rewatched the video. what i wrote above was my first impression when i saw that video back in 2011, before i knew anything about Ken Caillat, or what his relationship with LB was. when i first watched video, i was annoyed that KC seemingly was not focusing on the recipient of the award but instead on self-advertising (or daughter-advertising) and looked kinda distracted... also his speech seemed in such sharp contrast with Elliot Scheiner's. however now after knowing a bit more and seeing and hearing more of Ken Caillat, i think he just has that kind of nervous speaking style, abrasive, at least in public, and that he was actually, albeit awkwardly, trying to get across some really nice points talking about younger generation picking up LB's music, etc. also, again, when i first saw this video, not knowing anything about relationship between Ken and Lindsey, i was under the impression that unlike others, KC was not that eager to embrace and congratulate LB. watching it now, i don't see that anymore. it's interesting, stuff you notice not knowing any history - stuff which may or may not be there.

This award ceremony must have been early 2011. I think Making Rumours came out some time in 2012. I'm guessing this ceremony took place even before Lindsey vetoed band contributions to the book.

That's not the warmest of speeches (in fact Ken's speech was down-right awful) and certainly not the warmest of hugs.

says right there in the video description: January 14th, 2011.

i think after Ken wrote the book, but definitely before it came out in April 2012.

why? you think LB would be less nice if it was after the book came out? LB strikes me as a very zen person these days, so i don't think it would make much difference as far as his behavior goes. and Ken must have been well aware at that time that LB did not want to take part in his book?

Books like Ken's take years of research and interviewing. Not just that, there is typically a large lag time in between when books are completed and when the publisher releases them. For large novels or nonfiction works like Ken's book, this can take 6-12 months. During this time the book goes through editing, marketing plans and release dates are decided upon, artwork is chosen, reviews which appear on dust jackets are completed, etc.

My point being, Lindsey most certainly knew about Ken's book long before it was released. Ken would most certainly have approached the band early on during the process, too. So this video was absolutely taken after Lindsey refused to participate in Ken's book, and instructed the other band members to do the same.

I just think it's interesting to think what might have been going on behind the scenes, with both of them. For example- haven't read Ken's book yet (on my Christmas list), but from what I've heard, he's not that nice to Lindsey. That's why I'm wondering if this event was before or after the band (allegedly on Lindsey's orders) refused to participate. If you wrote a book where you were critical of someone, it must be awkward to encounter them in person afterwards.

I like to think that this clip from You Tube was just 2 men, who tend to be a bit socially awkward at times, giving and receiving an award. Neither are actors or public speakers (although one is a public performer-singer), so neither were really in their comfort zones.

I just don't think this applies to Lindsey at all. He's been a public speaker for 4 decades. He's been talking to the media and appearing on tv for years. He gives speeches onstage all the time. ;) I don't think he's uncomfortable speaking about himself or in front of a crowd at this point in time at all. He's used to being the center of attention in a room and having people pay close attention to what he says though he can maybe seem hesitant when really he's just searching for the right word (for example, to not piss off other band members or something).

Ken is clearly uncomfortable in front of a crowd, and on top of that, he has a sort of hesitant, odd speech style in general (watching him on say the making of Rumours video) that makes him sound awkwardly nervous even when he might not be.

For me, Ken comes across as a bit lazy here. If a person isn't a natural public speaker that's fine- but if you are asked to present an award to somebody then that's a great honor and you'd put a bit of effort in (proper preparation and practice prevents a pi$$ poor performance). In this case it looks as if he came up with his speech in five minutes in the car on the way to the event. I loved Making Rumours (my favorite FM-related book) and I know that if he'd really thought about it he could have delivered a great speech with some great anecdotes. Mentioning Colbie was totally misplaced and came across as a bit odd.

Lindsey is just typical Lindsey- no more, no less.

It's true he has been speaking publically for a long time now but he usually has his guitar to hide behind with the exception of radio interviews - but although millions of people were listening,he didn't have a million eyes staring at him to deal with(without his guitar). In "The Dance" video,he is very jerky and fidgetty and basically a nervous wreck when he is talking(lots of cameras,VIP's,and no guitar).Just my personal observation...

Richard posted this about an hour ago. WTF is he trying to say? He starts off implying that he has been asked to produce the band again, and then says, I couldn't do it because of my health and I can't travel and the band won't come record in Vegas so it'll never happen.

"Anonymous: If asked, would you produce the new Fleetwood Mac album?

After being asked that question more than any other, I reckon I had better give you some sort of answer. I will not discuss any private communication with the band I have had in the past on this subject, but I will say this. A reunion between Lindsey, Stevie and myself can only be a good thing for the rest of the band and I would not stand in the way of that happening. However, because of my health these days, I’m afraid they would need to come here to record and the chances of that are slim to none. I would first want to spend a few days with Lindsey, re-syncing our production chops together in isolation for doing maybe two or three tracks. After that adding Christine and Stevie, then the rhythm section, apart from outside influence for a while, would be magical. I’d put my ass on the line just one more time for that one, or perhaps a Buckingham Nicks reunion. Now that would be really cool."

I think he really misses being part of the machine, and would give anything to return.

Has he ever said what his health issues are? He looks really frail.

For sure. If you have read his blog since the beginning, the man has essentially given his entire adult existence to FM. He turned down many big opportunities over the years to stay loyal to FM.

He does look frail. :distress: He apparently was in a terrible car accident several years back, and is for all intents and purposes handicapped from it. His back injuries mean he can't sit, stand, or even lay for long periods. So travelling or being away from his specialty chair & bed isn't an option from what it sounds like.

yes he looks in really rough shape and appears to be in pain a lot of the time. his past issues with drugs and addiction make him very cautious about taking meds (he's talked about it). this winter he seems to have been down with various illnesses as well.

I am still curious about why he thinks a reunion of him, Lindsey and Stevie "can only be good for the band" though. It's just an odd way of phrasing it, to me. Like the band is in bad shape and us reuniting can only make them better or something. Clearly they are doing fine.

I totally get where he's coming from as far as not being able to travel due to his back.I had a back injury in 2006 and after various types of therapy and extensive (6 hr.) back surgery,I am in more pain now then I ever was.I sleep in 2 hr. intervals because even if I'm comfortable when I go to bed,I'll wake up in severe pain and have to take pain meds.Doing anything for more than 2 hrs. is damn near impossible.

IMO,I think he means that it can only be good for the band b/c of the connection between Fleetwood Mac,Richard, and Rumours. All of these factors equal perfection in the eyes of the public, even though that was then and this is now. It'll create alot of hype, interest and anticipation which in turn could create an increase in record sales. In a nutshell, history repeating itself:]
