yes he looks in really rough shape and appears to be in pain a lot of the time. his past issues with drugs and addiction make him very cautious about taking meds (he's talked about it). this winter he seems to have been down with various illnesses as well.
I am still curious about why he thinks a reunion of him, Lindsey and Stevie "can only be good for the band" though. It's just an odd way of phrasing it, to me. Like the band is in bad shape and us reuniting can only make them better or something. Clearly they are doing fine.
Or he could just be saying that it can't be bad and thus can only be good without making a commentary on their current state.

I'm sure RD is a wonderful guy and it's nice he's answering questions about the good old days (and sharing his archives which I'm sure he could easily auction off instead putting things out there for the fans). But why is he sticking his nose in FM's current affairs? I don't think it was his place to publicly announce Mick's moms passing (They have media people for that) he could have waited to post his condolences until after it was common knowledge.
Most recently it seems he is trying to bring to the bands (Stevie's) attention some remarks issued by Jimmy Paxon.
Jimmy said that the fans who were being negative towards FM for ending the show early due to Mick being sick were "Shallow and selfish" Sounds like Jimmy is sticking up for the band. So why are RD and the poster trying to turn it into a negative? Why is he even getting involved? Does he know Jimmy or when was the time he even talked to Stevie?

Richard Dashut has every right to stick his nose into current band affairs. As do all us fans.
We live in a media/communications age. You have to assume that if news is out there then its going to spread like wildfire anyway. Richard only responded to a message received from one of his punters. If that individual was aware of her passing then its fair to assume its in the public domain. I think Richard has been very sensitive and is obviously saddened himself despite not seeing Biddy for many years.
He's not trying to bring anything to the bands attention. He merely saw fit to post a comment made by one of his followers. To say Richard is trying to turn it into a negative misrepresents what he said in my view.
RD:
'I do not know Jimmy Paxton personally and did not read his Facebook post. However, I will honor your request and post this since I do not censor my followers. (Unless they are just downright rude and hurtful.) I am not defending anyone’s actions on this, but just know, when one of the band members goes down, it can be a very stressful and emotional time. During times of high dynamic stress, we can all say things that are off at times and we may have to use some extra understanding on this, without knowing the exact circumstances Jimmy was under. No excuses, just an observation. Know that I am one of you now and I don’t feel disgraceful or shallow, let alone selfish'
I think Richard is being Richard here. Trying to be quite neutral and not offend anyone. Sounds to me as if he doesn't condone what was said about the fans but is being diplomatic without knowing the exact circumstances of what was said.
I think its quite sad to read some of Richards pining for the old days. He's certainly no douche though! He comes across as a lovely, sensitive soul.

He didn't "announce" it. A fan already knew about it. He got confirmation from the horse's mouth. Mick knows he has a blog. He knows he disseminates FM information to fans. I would assume that he wanted Richard to pass the word on to those inquiring.

I don't follow Richard avidly but do catch up with things every now and then. I'm aware he's in a lot of pain and goes through periods of inactivity.
I notice he hasn't posted anything for over a week.
Does anyone know whether he's okay? Anyone have personal contact with him?

no idea. he used to run his own facebook but now i think Stacy mostly answers any PMs on there. but she can probably tell you whether he's fine, if you contact her on either account, there or on twitter. would be curious to hear what he says after the Vegas show tonight.

I used to check his site regularly… but he's stopped posting every day, or even every few days for a long time now. In the beginning he showed himself and Stacy with stacks and stacks of photos they were sorting through… then a couple months or so ago, after not having published that many compared to what he seemed to have, he commented about worrying that he would run out of photos to post. Weird. He's also had access to pics from other people around the band-- Mary Torrey, Greg Droman, Ray Lindsey and others.
He also said he was working on getting some of his own reminiscences recorded on videos to edit and post, and that he was getting other people from the band's circle back in the day to record certain stories as well. For someone who is tech savvy (and Stacy certainly seems to be that) the recording and editing isn't hard, it just takes a bit of time, but again, not that much.
So I wonder if it's his health, or he's gotten bored, or he's bitten off more than he can chew, or just what is the case. He's really, really tapered off. It does happen to a lot of bloggers, though

interesting, one of Richard's recent posts:
Anonymous: What's the deal with Christine's hand? I ask out of concern and curiosity. And because Songbird is out of the set list. Thanks!
[response from Richard]:I have been hearing a lot about this from other Punters but have no first hand knowledge of the situation. This is probably no accident since the band knows I am blogging now and wish to keep some things private. Certainly as soon as I hear something first hand I will pass it on…….r
does make one wonder what impact this has had on his blogging slow-down. It shouldn't impact the volume of photos/stories he has to share, but folks have been wondering since he began when the request not to share so much might come down from the band. Mick has been cool about it, with Richard openly stating he'd checked with Mick directly to respond to some fan questions.

Interesting. He has always made it clear that if they told him they didn't like it he would stop. Of course, he's never been shy about saying some things were too private for him to discuss on the blog. So, if they told him, "Christine will only have use of that hand for 6 more months. Keep it hush hush," I am sure that he would.

Perhaps he's also feeling stressed by the demands of some seemingly ungrateful and insensitive bloggers with unrealistic expectations.
I hope he isn't suffering from some health crisis. He has, in a way, written his own book by sharing so much -- his personal reminisces, opinions, philosophy, photos etc... He has been genuine and open, interacting with us in a very intimate way. I admire his tactful way of brushing off questionable or tasteless inquiries with respectful aplomb.

He did make comments about talking with the band about doing some production on the new album. So I could see why preceding, then following his first meeting with them in nearly 2 decades, that he'd keep quiet & play his cards close to his chest. It seems for him to have a hand in the last FM album would mean a great deal to Richard. A whole full circle kind of thing.
That being said, I think he's also just a sensitive guy. Between the intense trips down memory lane with all of these pictures, questions, and posts... I think it kind of wears him out, and he has to take breaks. Plus, he's dealt with some backlash from "spirited" fans, too. Combine that with his health issues and it's easy to see why he is pacing himself with all of this. Especially considering about 15 years ago he reportedly washed his hands of all things FM (according to Ken Caillat- something Richard himself has denied). I think the politics of dealing with the band is not only tricky, but exhausting for someone like Richard. He appears to try to keep his focus on the positive at all times. And sometimes he probably has to just step back and let things settle so he can keep on that trajectory.
Just my two cents, anyway.

He is a Virgo after all, so naturally he's prone to perfection and I can see him taking a step back if everything is not up to his standards. I feel like he wants to put out more than he can, so he fears retribution if he can't deliver, which I think we can all agree that he has. On the other hand, in order to please everyone, he doesn't want to offend the members of the band for airing their laundry, as it would be, but at the same time he wants to provide as much as he can for us, the loyal punter. I really hope he is at least somewhat involved with the new album... That comment about the full circle made me cry... Everything seems to fall into place eventually, and I hope everyone can do what it takes to accomplish that.

I hope his health issues didn't prevent him from going to the show. He may just be emotionally exhausted from the experience and it might take him a little bit to process it. I think this is the most time he's spent with them in a while.
Someone suggested he give Out of the Cradle a listen and his response was a bit sad. He misses his friendship with Lindsey a great deal.
It's impossible to guess how he feels after seeing the show and them, if he even made it. And then of course there is the possibility that it didn't go well. I pray that didn't happen.

I've never seen anything from Richard to make me doubt his motives- quite the opposite. However, something is definitely going on here. Either he's overwhelmed following his first encounter with the band in decades; or he's been silenced by them. Given the fact the band wouldn't even speak with Ken Caillat for his very technical book on the production of Rumours, I'd have to think it might be the latter.
Then again, Richard is a very sentimental, sensitive guy. He might just be taking some personal time to digest the situation. I don't think any of us can imagine the emotions he must be going through if he recently spent some time with FM. Maybe they approached him with some sort of offer he's mulling over. Who knows.
In any event, I give Richard the full benefit of the doubt. He's been the single most generous Mac insider that's ever reached out to the fan base. He's most certainly earned my respect & trust. Even if he has walked away from his blog without notice, it's way more than we've ever gotten from anyone else. He'd still have my gratitude.

This. I think Richard is an upstanding gentleman, without any intention whatsoever to intentionally dishearten any of us in any way. I think he is working on some different things right now, keeping it all very hush hush for positive reasons. If he were ill, surely Stacy would mention that, and if FM wanted to shut him down, surely he would have addressed the situation. Either way, what you said is absolutely true and I have the utmost respect for Richard.

sadly, I agree this may well be true. but I can't imagine it's because the band has brought him back into the fold to work with them again. It seems more likely to be a result of the attitude they demonstrated during the making of Ken's book, with certain members not wanting to let anyone other than the band define, describe or record the creative process of any of their material -- even if said people had a legitimate hand in creating it as well. It's about controlling the narrative, about single-handedly defining their legacy. The thing is, they've waited so long to do it (other than the usual spinning of their personal view points in interviews) that the field is still open for others to legitimately have their say. I say tough turds to the band at this point. But Richard still has emotional needs for recognition and validation from the band and feels a certain loyalty to bend to their wishes. He's gotten plenty of attaboys and love from fans, I don't think he's holding out for that at this point.

I'm thinking something was brought to RD's attention, and I would put my money on Lindsey. He has kids, kids who are at the age that they can look stuff up, tabloids and news stories are one thing, but straight from the source is a bit more destructive and credible. Stevie I don't beleive would care, Chris would shrug it off, Mick would be all for the publicity, John, well John would say "Huh, wait what's going on?" RD has stated on several occasions that if anyone of the band asked him to cease posting, he would and I think instead of giving us any explanation, he would stop as not to make any one of the band look like cry babies.
Of course I could be perfectly wrong in my assumptions and they might have asked him to produce their last album, along with as many of the original Rumours lineup as possible! 😳

I agree. Dunno if it's through his kids, but I agree it would likely be him, if anyone.
I always figured once Mary started donating photos Stevie was aware, and that began some time ago now.
We know Mick has known forever and in true Mick fashion, he didn't mind.
Can't imagine John would give two sh*ts.
Chris.... he's been nothing but loving in his descriptions and photos of her, so.... but it's possible she'd mind.
Lindsey... couldn't stop Ken from writing a book but sure put the kibosh on anyone in the band supporting it. Might write his own book. He and Richard clearly had a falling out and as LB's faithful sidekick forever knows a lot of stuff.....I'd say we have a winner! :wavey:

Lack of credibility? It sounds like there is a lack of gratitude and empathy. Richard doesn't owe us anything. He was sincere in his intentions, and generously shared his personal photos and insights.
He has given fans an intimate peek into the band's history. And he did it for free, enjoying the interaction, while being respectful to the band, as well as tp some bloggers who have no sense of decorum with regard to privacy, sensitivity, and boundaries.
He has been honest about his health issues. Did it cross anyone's mind that this or some other personal issue might be a reason his activity on the site has slowed down? It's very rude and crass to express indignation or question his sincerity.

I honestly don't see Lindsey putting the kibosh on this. Carol and Ken (and Mick if you include his first autobiography) already have books out on him whereas Richard has been his staunchest defender. I don't see him telling Richard to stop. I think either it's Richard's health (worst case scenario) or hopefully they did ask him to participate in the new album (best case scenario).

It could just be that nothing happened, that he only got the "Oh, it's so nice to see you" and a bunch of meaningless small talk for a few minutes, and he realized they really didn't give a f**k anymore.
Yes, I know that would hurt him. Although, I can't see Mick doing that to him. I'd think Mick would give him a big, exuberant welcome, even if no one else did. But yeah, I guess if Lindsey didn't, Richard would be hurt.
Almost 10 years ago when he showed up at the UTS concert, it must have felt ok, because he came back the next night as well.

You are smart to point out that Ledgies are much less forgiving!
But then again, it's egotistical to think anything we say here has much impact on them.
Yes, they don't care what we say because we don't know them and haven't seen them in their worst and most intimate, vulnerable moments. We're strangers.

Exactly! They've been in the public eye for over forty years. You learn to become immune to all the notoriety and exposure. You would go crazy otherwise, because it's impossible police everything.
It could perhaps be an issue if Richard was making money by selling private photos or saying disparaging or untruthful statements. But he has maintained a level of class and has no nefarious intentions.

It makes a world of difference when it is your long time confidant and co worker. In reality, we don't know if RD and LB had much more of a falling out than what they portray and RD is tip-toeing around a bigger issue or God forbid I say.... scandal. Richard is a nice guy, has a heart of gold that permeates through his blog, I feel it, but it's a little too coincidental how it has all played out.

This was my guess. Richard is such a very sensitive soul- all along I think he's craved rejoining the inner circle and to be part of things again. Perhaps he's recently found out that isnt going to happen. I'd still have thought he'd sign off with some sort of message to his followers.

I could see them being pretty rude if any of them feel that he had crossed some sort of line. I've met Lindsey and he was the nicest guy, I don't think there would be an issue there. Stevie was pretty rough when asked about Ken, I have a feeling she is one of those people that you have one shot and if you screw up once with her, you are done. Forever. She was all "how dare he try and tell our story blah blah blah". I'm thinking Richard got some warm hellos from people individually and a cold shoulder from Stevie. He probably left shaking his head thinking even after 30 years nothing has changed. It's still an ego drive mess of a band. Not much to say I guess?

But I do respect the right of expression, more so when its presented with an "I" and not an "i." First grade punctuation (capital letters) allows adults to communicate with integrity, eye to eye.
Oh yeah, that's right, blame me, call me rude for pointing out the obvious. That makes it all ok for you, explains everything right...?
On a side note, I think it's nice that we have someone on the board who has nothing better to do but proof and criticize our typos, thank you, because typing on an iPhone is always such a joy. Get a life.

Where did you read comments that Mama made about Ken's book?Just curious b/c I'd like to read them....But anyway,I agree with you about The Mac being an ego driven band.I to this day believe that Stevie enjoyed making In Your Dreams with Dave Stewart b/c he sat back and let her ego and control freak self take the wheel without any repercussions or criticism from anybody else. She even said that all Dave had to do was look at her face to see how she felt about how he approached a song and if he saw that she didn't like it,he immediately changed his style (unlike Bucky who always had an input). The IYD documentary says it all IMO:sorry:I still can't help but love her though.....:xoxo:

Really?... The reactions for an immediate " tell all " is insane. When he started his Tumblr account, to be heard and share an thirsty appetite for FM. I'm sure he got bombarded... And he handled it with grace and the best he could, still being true to himself... And being faithful to his friendships, regardless how time-distant they may be. Who knows what happened when he saw FM in Vegas.... That's his business.
I, personally, have been a fan of HIS WORK, not what explainations he could give about the questions that were conjured in fans minds regarding FM. Sure, there are loads of inquiries... Rumours set the tone. Social media has taken to a place of personal intrusion.
So... The question begs... YOU'VE never needed a rest from social media? And why does anyone deserve an explanation?

I guess we are just interpreting things differently. I don't see a whole lot of ungrateful demanding around here... just a lot of genuine curiosity & concern. Richard has posted such great aspirations and plans for his blog. I mean, there was all of his talk about parlaying the blog into something truly charitable. So his shutting it down cold for a few weeks following his planned encounter with the band just naturally makes us wonder what's going on.
Now the folks who constantly hound Richard demanding punter passes? Those people irk me. I think most of us don't want anything from Richard other than to hear his stories & see the occasional pictures. :)

it's not 'all times' at all. the last activity on this thread was back in late January, and then no one here was talking about Richard and his blog until about mid April when the band was getting ready to play Vegas, where Richard lives, and so there was some curiosity expressed about him going to the show and people wondering how the reconnection between him and the band would go. People genuinely were hoping it was all he seemed to hope it would be. *He* is the one who has openly expressed his desire (and maybe personal need) to close the circle with the band at this stage in life. That was all. Then, when nothing appeared on his blog... and it got to two weeks, three weeks... it started a flurry of conversation based on a lot on concern for him, not irritation or feeling he owed anything. Just "hey, what happened to Richard who is usually pretty blabby??" Now that they've posted something, unless he starts posting juicy bits on the blog, this thread will likely get all quiet again.

Richard is a (smaller) part of it, but he's not exactly what's missing. Lindsey over thinks things now, and he's lost his gift of editing things into a cohesive package. Make me a 3 minute pop song!
I love What's The World Coming To! I think if he had played it safer, more in WTWCT mode, that SYW would've been more successful(Pardon my morphing from RD to SYW thread).
Richard and Ken could've helped, but ultimately it boils down to what vision(murky now, imo) Lindsey has.

I agree. I love the slice of powerpop they opened SYW with. I assume at their level of success, there is no one around to "edit" their self-indulgent impulses, hence an 18 track cd!! and I may be alone in this, but after about 5 years of the acoustic Big Love, I much prefer the 3 minute full -band 80's version. We ALL know he can finger-pick a guitar like no one's business. enough already!

Acoustic Big Love - it made its debut in 1993. It is great, but it's also time to put it rest. A Full band version - A+++++.

ha see, What's The World Coming To is the only LB song that i absolutely cannot stand on SYW!
our tastes are so different and what one of us likes others might dislike. LB loves what he did with Tusk and considers it one of his biggest successes while Ken Caillat considers it a complete failure cause LB didn't want to do what Ken wanted. so it all depends on what you like (i know you know that!)
and speaking of crafting perfect little pop songs lately - you must have not listened to much of SWS. or even Sad Angel.

I sympathize with Lindsey on SYW. It wasn't his intention for most of it to be part of a Fleetwood Mac album. He had a vision for what that project was going to be, and was probably trying to keep it as close to that original vision as possible. In retrospect, he would have been better off starting over with all new songs instead of just two new songs and seven songs originally slated for a different project, especially in terms of making a cohesive project with Stevie (versus trying to make Stevie's songs fit his vision for what had been "his" project).

I definitely agree with the sentiment of wishing our Macsters would bring fresh material to albums- however, they've never really done that. Everything they've ever released inside or outside of FM has overlapped.
The more time goes on, the more I respect Lindsey for going the less safe route. Say You Will would have been Tusk II had Christine been involved to balance out the sound of the album more. Her pop goodness would have bridged the manic divide between Stevie & Lindsey's songs. And it would have been one hell of an album.

WTWCT is probably my least favourite of Lindsey's SYW tracks too though a few lines of it are quite good lyrically, lol... Mick said something about 'Say You Will' in his book which I thought was interesting:
"His self-sufficiency proved to be a bigger problem for Stevie than he could have imagined. It made her feel apart and a bit of an outsider when it came to writing. As the only other songwriter in the band, Stevie had thought she and Lindsey were going to have a new and closer creative partnership. But instead, she felt separated from the proceedings, and that was not good. In retrospect, Lindsey has said that he brought in too much of a preconceived vision and if given the chance, he’d not do that again, because it alienated her."

I remember you posted this in B/N.. (thank you).. I always thought they would collaborate much more after Christine left. When Stevie wasn't around for Tango, you got a lot more merging of Buckingham/McVie material. That didn't happen in SYW.. much to my dismay and surprise.

The difference being that Lindsey's SYW songs were specifically made for a solo album that was finished and submitted to the label. There was a change in leadership at that time, and the new guard strongly encouraged him to turn it into a Fleetwood Mac album. So, he HAD to incorporate another songwriter-vocalist and maintain as much continuity as possible. VERY different from the other projects.

I don't know why he disappeared, and whilst it is true that he does not owe us anything, its just weird that he dropped out. He gave an inside view to the Mac that many had not seen and for that the fans are grateful. But I stand by what I stated in an earlier post, his behavior still strikes me as someone who is looking for attention. Not questioning RD character but rather his motivation for his relationship with the fans...Is it possible he was trying to draw attention to himself by establishing some kind of bond with the fans hoping ultimately to get in good with the band and maybe be asked to work on the new project...Could it be that RD has now lost all hope of working with FM again and he no longer needs the fans hence the silence...

I don't know him from Adam, but from what I read in his blog, I just don't think he is that kind of fellow. He seemed very genuine, and wasn't looking for any recognition or validation from the band. He was just doing it for the Punters enjoyment, and his own trip down memory lane. I am really worried that something has happened to him. It doesn't seem in character for him to do this to gain attention. Just my 2 cents.

I agree with all of this. On top of that, I think Richard honestly did his blog as a form of therapy. We all know how Ken Caillat wrote about Richard's dedicating his life the the band (to the detriment of his own career), and his subsequent disillusionment after the Mac cast him out. I think Richard probably wanted to turn his life's memories back into the positive by creating the blog. Hopefully sharing all of the stories and pictures (good, bad, and ugly), and interacting with the fans really cemented the fact he has led a charmed life- one that has impacted so many people for the better. I suspect more than anything, that's why Richard made his blog- to give positive meaning to his life's dedication. To finally let go of the hurts and grievances of the past. To give back in a small way to the fans, who made his incredible journey possible.
I still do worry why he's stopped, though. Was it for a good reason? Did he get out what he needed to say and feel what he needed to feel, and now he can walk away with a clear conscience? Is there creative stuff on the horizon with the band which has rendered him silent? Was it for a bad reason? Did he dislike the direction the blog was going? Did the band put the screws on him? Maybe a crazed fan spooked him?
In any event, I eschew the notion he was only doing the blog to get back in the good graces of the band. If that were the case, he would have nixed all of the controversial topics and pictures. The drug usage. Domestic violence. Unflattering pictures. Conspicuous consumption. Et al.

I agree. It makes me wonder if when he met with the Mac in Vegas they were cold to him, this band has a way of freezing people out, their inner circle is very difficult to get into, and once you are in and then get kicked out it is usually impossible to get back in their good graces. I wonder if someone treated him cooly and he walked away remembering what a bunch of a**holes most of them were and why he left in the first place. I don't know. Mick seems to retweet some of his pics on his twitter page, so I can't imagine Mick is the one.... I don't know...

IMO, Stevie and Lindsey are the two c**ts in the band. If sh*t came down, I would highly suspect it from Stevie's camp first, and Lindsey's, secondly. But Stevie is the one with people really trying to protect her...
And I'm not saying it couldn't have been the other three, but they're(S&L) who I would suspect, if it happened.

Good try!! lol you seem to blame Stevie for everything some reason..
Richard has never said a bad word about her, and has always stuck up for Lindsey when confronted with awkward questions from curious fans..
If anything or wishful thinking, perhaps Richard is back with band & working on some new songs.
They probably love his blog, & why wouldn't they? Up until this point he has been very respectful and shared only positive stuff. Though i wouldn't mind a bit of dirt every once in a while, there is no way he would do that unless they pi##ed him off big time..

I doubt sadly that they 'love' his blog... I don't think they like ANYBODY telling their story but themselves. Stevie has always been the most controlling of her image, and anyone who tells tales other than the ones she wants told or not in the way she wants get scolded or frozen out. Waddy has had to walk stuff back that he's said and is now really careful. She (or her people, but same effect) got all twisted up when Heart wrote about her drug habits and her house (pics of herself everywhere). I don't know about Lindsey... I think when people talk about the making of the FM albums and how songs got put together and such then he seems to mind (e.g., Ken's book) because he too wants the story told how he wants it told. But not sure he would care so much about the personal stuff, and frankly Richard has been mostly positive and generous in his comments about LB.

based on nothing but a vibe.
I kind of feel like Chris loves everybody. wouldn't hurt a fly.
mick is up for anything to prop himself up and make coin
john ... leave me alone here in the background to do my thing but totally nice like Chris.
Lindsey ... well I suspect he's a moody f#ck
Stevie ... good luck getting near her with her entourage. But once you're IN with her you're in for life unless you f#ck it up. Unless you're her ex bf, then she'll forgive you, write songs about/with you and tour with you.

AFAIK(and have evidence to back it up), Chris(my FM heroine!!!!) kept Bob Welch out of the R&RHOF. Very, VERY wrong. And that was a very hard pill for me to swallow. But I did, finally.

I don't think that's really Christine's personality. I think she's more grounded than the rest of them, but I really don't see her as particularly loving. I mean, she probably loves every dog and can't bear the thought of a single one being hurt, (unless she hated Ken's dog too), but I don't think she feels the same snugly way about PEOPLE.

Well, that would suggest one thing good happened in Vegas, I guess.
I should say with Christine, I think the people she does love, she loves unconditionally and maybe too much and too long (Dennis) but because she doesn't suffer fools gladly, I think her warmth and affection stays within her circle of friends and family and, of course, is always available to animals.

This. Christine has always seemed extremely tough & resilient- iron clad. She appears to have a limited inner sanctum she is very loving towards, but seems to be rather cool to the rest of the world. Not necessarily in a bad way- just very guarded and almost male in the way she approaches life & relationships (meaning friendships, family, colleagues, AND romances).
I will say this, though- Christine is the one person in the band I'd never, ever want to piss off. I just get the distinct feeling she's not someone you'd want to cross. :D

Yeah, the whole Bob RRHOF thing was a hard one for me, too. Because Christine seems the very opposite of petty, or retaliatory. I guess to her, his suing FM crossed a very distinct line in the sand. Christine definitely seems like to Mama Bird of the band- she's totally cool until you mess with her brood!

I think you got that right. Christine is very personable, practical and fair-minded, but, in general, she's not exactly the warm and fuzzy type. She seems to keeps her emotions in check, but she won't hesitate to call out bullsh*t when she sees bullsh*t.
Do we really know why Bob Welch was overlooked in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame? Can any speculation or theories be confirmed?
From what I recall, Christine has expressed much respect for Bob. They had formed a close relationship as they carried the band through several re-configurations. Fleetwood Mac was supportive of his solo career, contributing to his solo recording of Sentimental Lady. What am I missing?

From what I recall, Christine has expressed much respect for Bob. They had a close relationship, and she has credited him for keeping the band together in the lean latter years. Fleetwood Mac was supportive of his solo career, contributing to his solo recording of Sentimental Lady.
Bob's wife Wendy swears that the RRHOF induction happened while Bob was suing the band (for back royalties that he never received), and that Christine told Mick, "if Bob Welch is there, I won't be". So Mick had to choose who was coming.
It was the wrong decision, but give him credit, Mick has always known, on which side his toast was buttered.

I think there's possibly too much conjecture surrounding this. Despite what has been said I'm not sure the bands themselves have that much influence. The R&R Hall of Fame is a ridiculous organisation- it means pretty much nothing outside the U.S. anyway.
I guess the whole point of the R&R Hall of Fame is to celebrate the most successful and influential artists. For its own credibility (not that it has much) I'm sure they want to limit the inductees to only those that truly merit recognition. I keep hearing about all members of The Grateful Dead being inducted but that is very much a one-off. The vast majority of bands with multiple line-ups only have a small number of members inducted- where possible the line-ups most closely associated with the time of the bands greatest success. There are many examples of significant members of bands that were never inducted. A prime example would be the omission of Bruce Johnson from the Beach Boys. In some cases where bands have members coming and going on a regular basis it must be tough identifying which members merit inclusion. In Fleetwood Mac's case it is fairly easy to see the distinction between the different eras.
Bob Welch was a vital member of Fleetwood Mac. However, he was never a truly influential musician and never had that much commercial success. The early band had huge success in the UK and Europe and were extremely influential. Even more so the 'Rumours' era band. The question is- would Fleetwood Mac have been inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame simply on their body of work from 1970-1974. The answer is a resounding no. I love the music from that period- I particularly love Christine McVie's songs from that period as well as those of Danny Kirwan. Bob Welch's songs were consistently good, though not absolutely great (though I particularly love Future Games, Sentimental Lady and Hypnotized). Bare Trees, Mystery To Me and Heroes Are Hard To Find are among my favourite albums. In his entire career though, Bob never hit the top 10 with an album (he never broke the top 30 with FM) and only once made the top 10 with a single.
If Bob Welch had been inducted then there would have been a case for Billy Burnette and Rick Vito. If they had been inducted then you are looking at viable arguments for adding Bob, Dave, Dave, Bekka, and even Bob Brunning. As Mason had already been inducted he would have been in line for a second induction- would he really have merited it? I'd say no.
Christine may have had personal reasons for not wanting Bob Welch inducted and she may even have been openly vocal about it. However, I'm not sure her voice really held that much sway over the closed shop that decide on inductees. Bob Welch seemed like a lovely guy and steered the band through a difficult period. Unfortunately he just wasn't really a tremendously notable artist in the wider scheme of things.
...and that's just my opinion.

You have bands like Red Hot Chili peppers and Metallica who inducted current members who had only been on the most recent release of their respective bands at the time of induction. Both releases only about 6 months old at the time of induction and neither major successes for the band relative to their past releases. I'm sure if it were entirely up to the Hall those members would not have been included. Josh Klinghiffer was included for RHCP while Dave Navarro was left off even though Dave's era was a bigger success than Josh's to date.

The rules must not be very clear, or at least not strictly enforced. The members of Blondie couldn't keep their animosity in check during the ceremony, and it seemed like Deborah Harry and Chris Stein would have preferred a couple of the former members not be there. Stein also publicly complained about them being inducted when their replacements, who by that point had actually spent more time in the band, were not inducted/honored. (For what it's worth, I thought that argument was silly since Blondie was obviously being honored for what they accomplished in the 70s and early 80s, and the new guys were essentially hired hands when the band reformed at the end of the 90s.)

Yeah I don't know how that works. It does seem inconsistent. It would be unreasonable for Blondie to try and exclude members from the era for which they're largely if not entirely being inducted. But then they couldn't get more current members in while Metallica and RHCP could. Josh Klinghoffer is officially the youngest inductee simply because he was inducted with a band he had only been in, in terms of recorded output and live performances, for about 6 months. That one album barely went Gold in the U.S for a band that hadn't seen less than multi platinum success since 1989 and less than platinum since 1987. And then you had KISS publicly criticizing their induction because the Hall would only recognize their "classic" lineup and they felt others deserved to be included.

No, I posted it in another post.
At the time, Bob was suing the band over royalties that he was due.
That was apparently enough, and Chris was pissed enough, to insist that she wouldn't attend the RRHOF induction, if Bob was there.

Without one there isn't another really. Not that I am a big listener of there older stuff (really). So maybe he should be inducted just because of this. But there are a lot of artists still out there that never get it and may never will. Anyway, it doesn't really matter to me much but just a thought anyway. Without one there isn't another really. Not that I am a big listener of there older stuff (really). So maybe he should be inducted just because of this. But there are a lot of artists still out there that never get it and may never will. Anyway, it doesn't really matter to me much but just a thought anyway. No offense but I guess I thought it was worth saying.
Yes, I think its voted on by a few hundred musicians, producers and songwriters. The results of the vote are passed to a committee whose job it is to 'take on board' the results of the vote and select the inductees. That's where it gets a bit murky and controversial because they dont always go along with the results of the vote. It's also the committee's job to select which members are inducted as part of a band. I remember reading an interview with a committee member who said they didn't feel Bob was good enough to be inducted into the R&R HOF (or words to that effect).
As I said, Christine may have been vocal in her views and the committee may have taken on board what she said but I dont think it's ultimately the band's decision.

Yeah, he surfaces after a month to complain. Yes, the article is crap but after all these years bitter still doesn't look good on Richard. After reading his tweet it confirmed to me something happened in Vegas and it wasn't good. I'd bet the bank he got the cold shoulder from the majority of the band and he is licking his wounds. JMO

I can't tell from the wording if Ken called the article "crap" and Richard is disagreeing with him; or if Richard is calling the article crap, and is asking for Ken to agree with him.

Honestly, what does Richard expect from the article? He wasn't in the band, so why would the general reading public have any interest in reading about him?
And I don't mean this to diminish Richard's relationship with the band then, or everything he did do with/for Fleetwood Mac. But he's not mentioned in a magazine article on Fleetwood Mac? So what? Why would he be?

I interpreted it as the latter. He wouldn't make the first comment about the article and then criticize somebody else for saying its crap.
...unless the whole post is a quote by Ken taken from somewhere and Richard is saying 'really Ken?' in response.
For my money Richard thinks its crap and he's seeking out support from his producer buddy.

My first reaction was that it sounds as though Richard has some beef with Ken. "Really, Ken??" as in "How could you do/say that, Ken??"
Full disclosure though, I've yet to read the article so I don't know what Richard could be referring to.

Because he surfaces just to throw mud at ken and the article. In otherwords, he didn't surface to say, "hey great show in Vegas".....or anything positive about the experience that he talked about quite a bit in the days and weeks leading up to the event in Vegas. He just disappeared. I stand by my statement the guy has a strong need for attention. I can only assume when he didn't get love from the band he walked away bitter and hurt and just dropped all the fans. Anticlimactic. He surfaced to throw a punch....he will disappear for a while again.

Stacy was commenting on her own twitter feed not long ago that she was considering moving. I would think Richard would be at a considerable loss in managing the blog without her, though her technical skills could easily be found elsewhere. (her friendship with him obviously not). So technically her leaving Las Vegas shouldn't shut down the blog.
Maybe he got sick of so many trolls.... he would post some of the negative comments from time to time but I imagine those were just the tip of the iceberg of what he actually received. Social media can be a nasty place to hang out, and I don't think he's got a thick enough skin for that. Guess we'll just have to wait and see if he resurfaces ever or just disappears for good.

I think that the instinct - which is to defend and go on the attack, even - is. Online, there's a tendency to exaggerate and use hyperbole. If you said that in real life and she, in real life, punched you, I would say that is not a 'normal', measured response. On forums and social media? It's not quite the same. For me, saying that wouldn't be 'normal', but for others? SAYING IT (not doing it) might be. I just don't think it's any kind of admission that she was affronted by you 'telling the truth' and her not being able to handle it.

it's just the internet for pete's sake. this is a site for bonding, sharing, yes gossiping, over a rock band. why would someone get so personally invested in anything anybody says?? if you find people and opinions on a given website stupid or offensive, then simply don't keep going to that site. it's really that simple. the resorting to name calling and exaggeration-- everyone hates people of a certain age, or that just because someone has a different opinion on a subject makes them a "hater" or whatever-- is so bizarre. And if you cultivate a big following on social media and then disappear in a way that isn't in keeping with your previously forthcoming manner, people notice and comment on it. so what?

This all seems to have escalated rather quickly!
Have I missed something, did someone post something terrible about Richard on the Ledge - Stacy has been bad mouthing it on twitter...
But even if they did, why does that makes Richard shut down his whole social media front, all the work he put in to that blog: I loved visiting that every day to catch up on what was going on.
Very strange. Here's some more of her tweets:
well, Ken did a Ken again & threw everyone under the bus but made himself look like the important guy who did all the work. LIES.
let's just say Ken hasn't left a good impression on me. You shouldn't have to stoop so low.
Try reading Mick's books…

If Stacy is truly reflecting Richard's feelings, then he should do write his own book that offers his side of the story. There's nothing preventing him from doing this, and judging from his blog posts, he has the ability to write one. Rumours is an endless money making machine, so I doubt anyone in FM management would mind. They might even encourage it!
Stacy isn't doing Richard any favors, so it would be wise for her to back off from her highly reactive tweets. History shows whiners never get respect (I should know! )

We do, but it seems not everyone loves Richard.
We have no real idea what has happened and yet there has been so much (apparently wild) speculation about Richard. Stacy previously made it clear there was no issue with the band and yet people still suggested otherwise. Richard was really looking forward to the show and didn't go.
This might be down to his physical illness and/or mental illness. Who knows, perhaps he's had some sort of breakdown. I wouldn't be surprised, I bet he had all sorts of unnecessary sh*t thrown at him through the blog. It all sounds a bit touchy but its clear from what Stacy says that the band love and support him. Until the truth one day comes out, why cant people give him (and her) the benefit of the doubt and leave it be? He shouldn't have to write a bloody book- I think we got enough of a measure of him through the blog. Stacy is just standing up for her friend- that's what friends do!
Richard, I hope all is well mate.
Stacy, have a good life whatever you do.

I don't consider her "fm related people" in any way whatsoever. She is a wannabe.
I can't say I agree with that summation. Richard lived with Stevie and Lindsey before they were famous. He was their sound engineer in the studio and on the road during the height of FM's fame. He switched roles to become their co-producer during the height of FM's fame. Richard lived with Mick for years, too. He was arguably Lindsey's right hand man & foil for decades. Richard has done a significant amount of press with and for the band, too. He's definitely a visible and easily recognizable figurehead of the FM supporting cast- I'd argue even more so than someone like Stevie's assistant Karen.
Stacy works directly with Richard... physically right next to him, from what the both of them have shared. I think Stacy most definitely qualifies as a 'FM related person.' I will give you that it's in somewhat of an oblique way since Richard hasn't had any professional dealings with the band in 2 decades now. And 2 decades ago, Stacy would have been a toddler. So there is that.
Generally, there is no one I would not like to strangle.
 The truth comes out! I know what you mean, though. EVERYONE drives me nuts at some point! :]

PS: I've only been on the Ledge a year but it doesn't strike me as a cesspit full of bad mouths: we all love the Mac!
The folks on here who don't care for Richard have accused him of varying things. The biggest one being that Richard is an attention seeker, and paints Lindsey in an unfairly positive light in order to get back into his inner circle. I disagree with both claims, but I think there is some truth behind each school of thought.
The thing about the Ledge is this- we all love FM in our own unique ways. Due to that, there are different factions here- those who are proponents of specific band members, specific producers, certain musical & production styles, etc. This is where the trouble can come into play. Someone who may not care for Richard, for instance, will find fault in most anything he does- professionally or personally. That's when accusations start to fly, and stuff degrades. Luckily, the Ledge is a much calmer place than it once was! :p
I suspect that folks have been contacting Stacy and Richard privately with far more inflammatory accusations, though... hence the total eradication of Richard's online presence.
If Stacy is truly reflecting Richard's feelings, then he should do write his own book that offers his side of the story.
Richard let it be known many times in his blog that he had no interest in writing a book. He felt it was unethical for him to charge people to hear his story. He really wanted to give back to the fans who made his incredible journey possible, hence the free blog. He even spoke often of having the blog turn it's focus to charitable causes. Which is all the more unfortunate that the blog has been taken down. Richard had such a large captive audience- he really could have accomplished that goal.

Richard doesn't *have* to write a book or do any other thing he doesn't want to.
The facts are though, that he has made a lot of comments on his own about not being mentioned in articles, podcasts, etc by others in/around the band for his role in crafting the music. Totally fair for him to call that out, which he has. No one on the Ledge or anywhere else made up his remarks, they simply commented. *He* is the one who, when Lindsey did a podcast or Ken talked to Life or whatever, *chose* to make public comments about what those people said, and how he felt about them. He was the one who responded to that podcast LB did a while ago with a comment something along the lines (don't punch me coz I don't have the exact quote) of "I was there, I was at the other end of that talk back mic, mate". And then the recent article where he commented "Really Ken?" and that it was "all lies". It's not imagination on anyone's part to notice that there was some feeling-- call it frustration, anger, hurt, whatever-- on R's part clearly expressed *by him* publicly.
Me personally, I just take the perspective that if you want your story told, don't wait on others to tell it, YOU tell it, if you feel that strongly about it. Which he did in his blog. Yet (evidenced by his need to comment on the Life article) he still seemed to feel he was not properly acknowledged for his work. Well, if the blog didn't do it, maybe write a book. That seems to be the main reason Ken gets mentioned, called, or quoted by these publications. (And Carol). Or, let it go. Maybe pulling all his social media is his way of letting it go. If so, good on him.

Did ANYONE read the dang Life article?
From the tweet it sounds like they may have had some quotes from Ken in there, and he left out any mention of Richard & his hand in the production when asked questions about it and I guess it rubbed Richard the wrong way, as if Ken was taking all the credit and he was being erased from the history of it all. That's what I interpreted the tweet to mean....
But I haven't read it, so I don't know. I'm just speculating, as we all are.

That's what I interpreted the tweet to mean....
But I haven't read it, so I don't know. I'm just speculating, as we all are.
Whatever the cause, I'm sad the blog is gone. I enjoyed it.
Yes, I read it, but it wasn't just one Life article. The magazine had write ups of all the eras of Fleetwood Mac and quotes involving them. Yes, Ken was one of the people interviewed and I agree that he didn't like that Ken didn't talk about Richard's input, working alongside, when Ken discussed all the stuff that he himself did.

Richard lost his power with the band a long time ago and therefore he is irrelevant to the press. He faded into obscurity. Ken obviously is still en vogue. Because of that, Ken had the opportunity to paint the picture as he saw it. Christine thought the article was great. As long as the band is happy with it who cares what Richard thinks? Maybe Mick and Linds will affectionately ask the press to call Richard next time they want to do a story on the band.
Whatever the cause, I'm sad the blog is gone. I enjoyed it.

I'm only half way through it, but it does mention what Ken wrote in his book about Lindsey allegedly hitting his girlfriend and choking Ken. Richard could be upset about that, that the magazine focuses on the tabloid aspect rather than on the music.

I'm another one who hasn't read it.
Can somebody just clear up for me- is there a new interview with Ken or is everything culled from his book? If a lot of it is taken from his book I can see how certain extracts in isolation could be misrepresentative. Overall Ken was very warm towards Richard in 'Making Rumours'. From what I can remember though he tended to make out that Richard focused more on dealing with the band and he did more of the technical stuff.

Well, some of Ken's comments are new, but some are lifted straight from his book. The book is 96 pages, lots of them pictures, but still Ken's comments are sprinkled throughout. Like you have a song by song analysis of the Rumours tracks and comments are in there and then you have summaries and Ken and Keith comment through those.

Just finished and Ken's comments, both old and new do come off as bitter/fit for the tabloids. He talks about them abandoning Judy Wong, not rehiring Richard in 1997 when he was "at the point of being broke", refers to Stevie, Mick, and Chris as "coked up crazies" amongst other things.

If he has deleted everything because of Ken, that's too bad. He had a lot of friends who loved his blog and Facebook page. There must be more too it. Maybe Richard should write his book and get his side out to the public on his life with Fleetwood Mac.

Me personally, I just take the perspective that if you want your story told, don't wait on others to tell it, YOU tell it, if you feel that strongly about it.
see, i understand what you are saying, but it's sometimes frustrating that you not only do great work but if you want that work to be acknowledged then you also have to be the one to toot your own horn and boast how much you did. sometimes you'd like others to acknowledge and thank you for what you did without having to remind them.
kinda like LB seemingly thinking that the band should have seen how much producing work he did from early albums on and not him having to ask for producer's credit in order to actually get it. (of course now when he's talking about how much he did people are complaining about him boasting about it - one can never win! ;) ) -
"I mean, if you were to ask Richard (Dashut) or any of those guys, “Who produced Rumours?” they’d all say, “Lindsey was the guy with the vision.” I didn’t ask for a production credit on Rumours and I didn’t get it. Richard feels bad about that. There were band politics involved in that. Even on Tusk, you may notice, it says like “special thanks for....” Come on! I don’t think I had any less of a hand in what you could call production on Rumours than I did on Tango.

LOL. It's not too difficult. Whenever you see a YouTube video or tweet on here, it's usually been embedded. That just means that you can see or watch the media without having to follow the link to the source. If you don't have the direct URL of the tweet, that's what you need.
1. Go to the person's twitter account: https://twitter.com/kencaillat
2. You will note that you can only see tweets he has made, and not replies at the moment. There are three options for what you can view - 'tweets', 'tweets & replies' and 'photos & videos'. Click on the second. You'll now be at this URL: https://twitter.com/kencaillat/with_replies
3. The very latest tweet (at the top of his timeline) is the tweet we want to embed into a forum post. When you hover over a tweet, you'll see a thin box with a coloured line which indicates which tweet you're about to click on. Click on the tweet you want, in this case the top one.
4. You'll be taken to the URL of Ken's tweet here: https://twitter.com/kencaillat/status/599623382301192192
5. Under the tweet is information such as his location, the date and time of the tweet, as well as four more options. The backwards facing arrow allows you to 'reply', the arrows chasing one another allow you to 'retweet', the star allows you to 'favorite' (all of which can only be done if you have a twitter account), and the three dots bring up some other options. Click on the three dots.
6. You will see options to do several things, but the one you want is 'embed tweet'. Click on it.
7. A pop-up will appear, with a box containing a code (it just looks like text). All you need to do is click on that box and the code will become highlighted. Copy the code and then paste it into your post on The Ledge or another forum.
8. On this occasion, you'll see a ticked box under the code which says 'include parent tweet'. If you just wanted to insert Ken's tweet and not Richard's (which he was replying to), you just need to untick that box. The preview shows you what it will look like when embedded.
-
As for changing your avatar, again, it's not too tricky. When you're on The Ledge, you'll see the menu bar thing up top which has options like 'User CP', 'FAQ', 'Members', etc. Click on User CP. That's your control panel, which allows you to make changes to your account.
You will now see a sidebar on the lefthand side of your screen with various headings like 'Settings & Options', 'Private Messages' and 'Subscribed Threads'. Under 'Settings & Options', there are links to where you can edit your signature, your avatar, and other account details. Simply click on 'Edit Avatar', the fifth option down.
You now have the option to change your avatar. If there's an image you want to use on the internet or on your computer, you first need to get it to the correct size. You'll see that the instructions say that it cannot be bigger than 75 by 75 pixels, or 19.5kb. I use Photoshop to edit something but I don't know if you have or use that software. If you do, simply open the image and crop it to the correct size.
If you don't already have an image on your computer, find one and save it. You need it to be a SQUARE so double-click the image, and it should open up into software which previews the image, and allows you to edit it. You need to crop it so that it's a square. Then go to this website and click browse. Add your edited image.
https://transloadit.com/demos/image-resize/resize-to-75x75
Scroll down the page to the heading 'Result Files', and it will have made your file the correct size. Click 'download' and save it to your computer. Now go back to where you were on The Ledge.
There are two boxed sections, the bottom of which says 'custom avatar'. Go to the 'browse' button and click it. Locate the image you just downloaded and click on it. This will upload and change your avatar for you. When that's done, click 'save changes' down the bottom. Then you can go back to the forum proper.

You can get a more detailed breakdown of the problems in this very same forum, the one specifically about the Life article.
From my perspective, the pics are fantastic but the copy is crap. The author relies heavily on biased sources (Carol Ann Harris and Ken Caillat) that paint a pretty negative picture of the band. Ken calls Mick, Stevie, and Christine "crazy coke heads" and dismisses Tusk as a failure artistically and commercially. His opinions are, of course, valid, but they are opinions, not undisputed facts. The real trouble is with the author, who relied entirely on other sources, either wasn't able or was too lazy to get direct confirmation from the band on any piece of information. The author also has an unclear tone, alternating between awe and derision, at once holding these people up as rock gods and then knocking them down for being rock gods.
The only new perspectives I got from the article were from Ray Lindsey and Keith Olsen.

Yes, but that doesn't give the writer carte blanche to paint an uneven picture, especially since the writer approaches such incidents with a decided slant going in. (I'm thinking in particular of the portrait of Lindsey-as-abuser.) Also, plenty of sources out there assess Tusk differently than Ken Caillat does, so why not quote them for more balance? It reads like the writer had his own views and selected what he wanted to support them.

totally agree that it's better if people give credit where credit is due. And I've always thought Richard seems like a total team player. He ALWAYS gives credit to others, and has a self-deprecating, joking sort of tone about his own work. Alas, others aren't usually like that. (I work with a BUNCH of them).
You're right about LB of course.... and you're right that he finally decided he did sort of have to 'toot his own horn' over the last decade or so. And notice how the press, who are generally lazy and never do their own work but rely on past articles, have started writing more about his work on Tusk, his being the chief architect, the visionary, etc. Because, I think, they go back and read previous interviews etc with him and he's made it a point to talk about those things. Business is ugly sometimes and it's cutthroat and you have to self-promote. You can do it in a classier way or you can be totally crass and crude about it, but expecting others to just notice doesn't seem to work. I can see how Richard would expect to be recognized as part of the team because they were a TEAM, but....clearly it hasn't played out that way.

Even when Lindsey left in 1987, the press was giving him credit for the band's sound. That's why Chris was saying, "but I was right over his shoulder" and such, because the media was wondering where the band would be without him and the band wanted to stress that they could still go on. So, I think he has always been credited for shaping their sound. He just wasn't called a "visionary" because, heaven help me ... in those days maybe Providence was more sensitive about preserving my sanity than it is today.

Yeah, that visionary stuff...yikes.
Lindsey's role in the production of those albums is obviously central. But Christine's role, if not as forceful, was as crucial to the band's sound. One need only hear some of her songs pre BN to see she was working out aspects of the vocal formula in advance of Lindsey. The thick background vocal textures on the Heroes title track, for example, sets the stage for YMLF three years later. The song Why, though classic balladry, is as offbeat and idiosyncratic in places as anything on Mirage.
Lindsey complains that the whole band took credit for production, and he was probably right to complain. But if he got credit, Christine would have to get an assist credit--or at least co-arrangement credit.
Side note: Danny Kirwan was pretty much the producer on Bare Trees and Future Games. Christine has even credited him as being a top-notch arranger. Mac tradition has always seen the lead guitarist as musical architect.

interesting. looking through the article on the evolution of the music producer role, the trend of a band member(s) taking on a role of uncredited producer has a long history starting from from the 60s, so apparently not that unusual. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Record_producer
so producer is "the person who creatively guides or directs the process of making a record, like a director would a movie. The engineer would be more the cameraman of the movie".

This is from the Tumblr Account Management page about account deletion:
How do I delete my entire account?
Hopefully this is just a hypothetical. Hypothetically, you would just go to your primary blog's settings page or your account settings page and hit the "delete account" button at the bottom of the page. Be aware:
Your primary blog will be deleted. If TFA has been enabled for your account, you will be required to input the code.
Your secondary blogs that you are the only member of will be deleted, and you'll be removed from any group blogs you are a member of.
Your blog URL will be released, and can be used by anyone who's looking to create a blog.
You can create a new account using the same email address you used last time. Hey, go for it.
How do I delete or leave a secondary / group blog?
Click "Settings" under the Account menu at the top of the Dashboard, then click the name of blog you'd like to delete or leave on the right side of the page (or if you're in the mobile app, swipe left on the blog name).
If you’re the only member of the blog, you’ll see a “Delete blog” button at the bottom of the screen. Click this and the blog will be deleted from Tumblr and its URL will be released for anyone to use.
If there’s at least one remaining member of the blog, you’ll see a “Leave blog” button at the bottom of the screen. Click this and you will be removed from the blog. If you were the only blog Admin, another member will be automatically promoted to Admin. Learn more about administering group blogs here.
It looks like if the blog is truly deleted, the URL is released for anyone to use... So it's not like facebook where you can potentially reactivate it again later. However if he saved his posts somewhere else he could potentially post them again.

Yes- more than likely the blog has simply been deactivated. Should Richard chose to do so at some point in the future, the blog could be reactivated and all of the material would be recovered.
I have a feeling he's done, though. I walked away from social media (facebook, etc) a few years ago myself and haven't looked back. Social media can be a negative and highly stressful experience. I can certainly empathize with why Richard has bowed out.

But won't all the versions of it be cached? You can't really make anything truly disappear on the Internet,....
It seems like I recall there being some service on the web where you can "go back in time" and look at what was on any website on a date of your choosing. Sound familiar to anyone? If so, a person could use that to grab all the text and repost elsewhere (if copyright issues and Richard's wishes allow).

interesting. looking through the article on the evolution of the music producer role, the trend of a band member(s) taking on a role of uncredited producer has a long history starting from from the 60s, so apparently not that unusual. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Record_producer
so producer is "the person who creatively guides or directs the process of making a record, like a director would a movie. The engineer would be more the cameraman of the movie".

"Arranging is the art of giving an existing melody musical variety" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arrangement
Thank you for this! If we use these definitions, Lindsey would often appear to be talking about arranging when he credits himself for creating the band's sound.

This whole situation is so strange. The blog goes from having all these grand plans to move forward with a variety of big things, to disappearing without any explanation and only the vaguest of hints from other sources as to what happened. I hope we get the real story someday. I really enjoyed the anecdotes and photos and hope that all is well with Richard.

depends, he describes doing both. it fits the definition of producing when he says this:
"When Peter (Green) was in the group, he was the leader of the group. He was always the guy who, more or less, chose the direction that everything was gonna go. But after he left the group, from that time until the time that we joined, I don’t really think there was a certain one member in the group who could be said to be the idea man - the one who had the real, definite concept of how the music should sound. And uh...when we joined, that was just one thing that had come naturally to me for years. I’d been working with tape recorders since I was about 17 years old, and uh...understanding the possibilities of the technology with the possibilities of the music gives you a very strong foundation from which to work in the studio. And that’s just something that I enjoy doing, and they seemed to enjoy having me do it. I think they needed it.
GRT Retrospective, November 1981"
and it fits the definition of arranging when he's describing what he did with Dreams or Landslide, for example:

Yes- more than likely the blog has simply been deactivated. Should Richard chose to do so at some point in the future, the blog could be reactivated and all of the material would be recovered.
I have a feeling he's done, though. I walked away from social media (facebook, etc) a few years ago myself and haven't looked back. Social media can be a negative and highly stressful experience. I can certainly empathize with why Richard has bowed out.

however, http://dickdash.tumblr.com/ takes you now to someone else's tumblr, so that would mean the url was released? if so, that would be too bad about the lost non-archived stuff.

I'm familiar with both the interview and the video clip. Unfortunately, the line between arrangement and production still isn't entirely clear to me from watching/reading either.
By production (ie: laying out a "concept of how the music should sound") are we talking a largely technical angle? And/or are we talking about the more general frame for a song?
I think when the band refers to Lindsey as producer many of the examples are really of him coming up with an arrangement for certain tracks, and those arrangements are admittedly creative and clever. However, Christine deserves some of this credit, too.

I have been a Fleetwood Mac fan since 1975 and i don't care who is sitting behind the board. Most fans don't care who produced the artists album, they just care about the band members and the music. Yes, if you are a sound person, a producer or a musician then you care about who was sitting behind the glass and all the intricacies. Most fans only care about the band and the final product. Go to a Rolling Stones concert and ask anyone if they can name one producer of any RS album at any point in the history of the band and less than 1 in 1000 could answer that question.
To be honest, Stevie and Linds could be sitting in an empty room with a childs karaoke machine singing "old mcdonald" and i would listen to it.
Richard faded into oblivion in 1978. Most people just don't care...and besides Ken has put the spotlight on himself and self promoted himself taking much of the credit for Rumours. I assume he did this to look good in the production circles. Again, the fans really don't care who Ken is or who Richard is.
This board is a collection of pretty diehard fans. There are less than 500 people on this board regularly ( and i am being generous with that number). This is not a good sample of reality in regards to how people feel about who is producing the music. FM had sold a million tickets on this tour. Most of those ticket holders have no idea who Richard is. Really, he has faded into oblivion, no one cares about the producers.

I for one care very much who produces Fleetwood Mac as that has a big impact on the overall sound we hear. Richard and Ken's input has been sorely missed (oh, to have had those guys working on Behind The Mask and Say You Will- one can only have imagined the outcome). Aside from the technical aspect of making a record I also find myself caring about Richard as a person. I dont think we can underestimate the role those two guys played. They may not have officially been in the band but make no mistake- for all intents and purposes they were band members. Of course the masses at large couldn't give a monkey's who their producer is. For diehard fans it very much is significant.

PS...i am a diehard fan and just don't care about anyone other than the band members. Only the band members are band members of fleetwood mac Don't care about the rest of the "team", the producers, the mixers, the wardrobe lady, the photographers, the caterers, the lighting people, the bus drivers, the drug dealers, the tour managers, the guitar tech, the drum techs, etc etc, to me as individuals they are not at all significant because they are easily replaceable and with each album and tour many of them change. Each role is important and certainly a contributor, but does that make me any more or less of a fan if i care about them or know who they are and their individual contributions? no, not at all. They are just background players...and yes, they fade away.

I'm not sure how you figure Richard faded into oblivion in 1978- he continued to produce the band's albums right up through Time in 1995 (with the exception of Behind the Mask- and we see how that one turned out!). He also produced Mick and Lindsey's solo albums during that time period, including the critically acclaimed & fan favorite Out Of The Cradle.

Agreed. There is a reason why the Fleetwood Mac albums from the 70s and 80s were the band's most successful, classic albums- they had a stellar production team with Richard & Ken. Richard & Ken were the icing on the FM cake. Sure, they weren't the main ingredients which were the building blocks of the structure... but they were the details which really made the whole thing sparkle, and elevated the Mac's work to the next level.
Just look at Behind The Mask as an example. The production style of that album just cannot compare to anything the band did in the years preceding. It was very run of the mill, very cliché, and quite honestly- dumbed down. Sure, part of that album's sound can be pinned on Lindsey's leaving the band. But I'm not sure that explains all of it- just look at how beautiful some of Rick Vito's solo work is, for instance.

Wrong. :distress:
I can tell you who the producer of the Stones was. It was Glyn Johns who is famous in his own right along with a whole list of other people famous for being producers.
Any music fan who doesn't care about the work of producing the music has no right to call themselves a real fan. I mean Jesus, where would we be without Jimmy Iovine?

In Mick's own words, from his recent book. It seemed appropriate to this thread:
What that album went on to achieve is common knowledge but what is not is the efforts of the sonic masterminds behind it all. Without the patience, dedication and zealous belief in us that Ken Calliat and Richard Dashut shared, Rumours would not have come to be. They were the sixth and seventh members of our band, they made the sound that the world knows as ours come to life in the recorded medium. Along with Lindsey Buckingham and some degree myself, those two changed the way albums were recorded and they deserve more kudos than these mere words can convey.
Not to mention how famous and important is George Martin still considered.

I wish Stevie would have been open to the recording that Mick, John and Lindsey did with Mitchell Froom. I love his body of work.
I also loved Butch Vig working with Stevie and the Sound City Players (aka Nicksvana). I never in a million years saw that one coming.
Also if you have a while and would like to watch Glyn talk about his process there's this: Also Lindsey Buckingham wasn't the only one with a fondness for double albums. According to Glyn, The Clash's Combat rock was a double monster that originally had Alan Ginsberg doing spoken word poetry in the background! Glyn then goes on to talk about a laundry list of bands doing double albums.
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/9sfhK0xHCtQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I think at a different time and place Glyn and Stevie might have worked better together. I am quite fond of "The Abbey Mixes" that are floating around out there that are said to be Glyn's Street Angel mixes. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Some of the finished product that she went back in and tried to fix literally sound like they had the life sucked out of them. I don't know if I would have like Stevie solo without Waddy though.
Back to Richard though, I mean come on. He and Ken took the tapes after they were eroded and used the safeties and synched them by hand to create a usable product. I have never heard of anyone else doing that ever. There are so many other things. I wasn't going to buy Life but now I may have to just to see how f*cked up it really is.
I'm much more looking forward to buying Mojo though for the current interviews with the band and I think I'm going to to love the old school blues CD that comes with.

In the History of the Eagles movie, Glyn Johns is interviewed quite a bit, because of his work on the early Eagles albums. And both he and the band talk about his dislike for drugs in the studio, the entourage thing, goofing off, etc. He liked to get right down to business, and ran a no-nonsense studio. After a while (in addition to musical differences) this didn't appeal to the Eagles anymore and they stopped working with him. I think Jimmy was the last producer to really have any influence to keep Stevie focused, relatively drug-free in the studio and with a minimal entourage-- and even he lost that battle over time. After watching the Eagles movie it was easy to see, music aside, why he and Stevie wouldn't be a great fit.

Indeed. People like Phil Spector, George Martin, Quincy Jones, Rick Rubin, T Bone Burnett, Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois, Jimmy Iovene, Berry Gordy, Babyface, Mutt Lange, Mark Ronson, Todd Rundgren, Timbaland, and many others are arguably just as famous as the artists they worked with.
And if you don't believe in the power of the producer, just look at some of the magic Alan Parsons has woven as a producer & engineer. Just look at the effect he had on Pink Floyd, and the transformation he brought to people like Al Stewart's music.
