Not at all. I like how they more or less show it in real time - Alan Ball is the king of the cliffhanger.

I tried watching it for I think about 4 episodes and in my opinion it was super sexual. Not that I mind, it just seemed a little over-kill. It seemed like they were doing all the sex to get people interested in watching the series. After awhile I was like, oh brother - here we go again. That's why I gave up on it.
Does that stuff calm down a little bit in the second season?
Jamie
After they started posting about it last night, I went to itunes and downloaded five episodes. I like it, especially the lady who plays the maenad and the woman who plays terry. I like their weird chemistry. The acting is good. I'm not getting the church so well though.

Is it bad to say that Lori and Sharon don't need too much make-up to portray vampires? Well at least that seems to be for Sharon haha. Just a joke.
Sharon: Yes. But that's one of the reasons I love her, sooooooo
Lori: No

Alan Ball does NOT believe in people being vampires and not having sex or being able to refrain from it. To him they're all about sex. Or being able to go outside in broad daylight, them being vampires, hence another unmentioned film  But if you start getting into True Blood, you will see the storylines run much deeper and it's not entirely all about sex. To me it's a great series.

I know...whf? Whaa whaa whaa...what a kill joy. Sorry some fans can't enjoy it for the moment, and save the critical opinions in given time, when everything has soaked in. Snap judgements are useless.
Hear, hear. I totally agree. I would at least wait until you hear the full songs before judging the entire project a failure.
My own reactions:
I love the sizzle real. It's imaginative, fascinating, and it really captures the mystical rocker that Stevie is.
"Moonlight" is awesome. I love the music. I love the visuals. My favorite of the four.
"Annabel Lee" is my least favorite of the four but I still like it quite a bit. Honestly I think its a great song but I was just so blown away by "Moonlight" that it made "Annabel Lee" pale somewhat in comparison.
"Wide Sargasso Sea" I wasn't sure about at first but I relistened several times and am pretty intrigued by it.
"Italian Summer" sounds amazing. Grand and romantic, which is how Stevie described. Someone here said they were disappointed because they were expecting a heartbroken ballad......why? I don't recall Stevie saying anywhere that this is what "Italian Summer" was. I don't see how you can be disappointed by expecting a song to be something that you assumed on your own without any evidence for. I love how long she holds the note on "go", I never expected that.

I just got to thinking....what we all believe to be Wide Sargosso Sea...what if that song is actually Ghosts Are Gone? "In the smoke and fire, they never found her, burn this house down"...sounds a LOT to me like a song stevie wrote about a haunted house.

I think someone here said that those lyrics fit with the plot of the movie "Wide Sargasso Sea," which Stevie said inspired the song.

Well, based on the call sheets for the video shoot, there is no video for "The Ghosts are Gone." The call sheet specifically calls for a "voodoo hoop fire dancer" for "Wide Sargasso Sea," so I think that is the definitive proof of its ID in the sizzle reel.

Yep, plus there is a woman in the water, which I'm sure is supposed to represent the Sea and the lyrics fit with the novel... burning the house down. I cannot wait to hear this song in its entirety. The way it is in the sizzle reel just seems so creative. Very intriguing. It may further her image as The Rock Poet.

The book Wide Sargasso Sea centers around the character that is Bertha Mason in Jane Eyre, giving the background of how she went "crazy".
Not to spoil it if you haven't read it, but she eventually burns the house down in Jane Eyre and they never find her remains, hence the lyrics. :)

Thanks for linking directly Nikki. I will be watching repeatedly.
No like: I don't like the vampire stuff; I'm just not into it. :distress:
I hate the different girls saying "My name is Stevie Nicks." It's weird & creepy.
And what's up with the owl? (I know, I know, what's up with the cockatiel...)
Like:
The sets look cool - the big old house, the woods, etc.
The songs all sounds promising, and the last one with the strings did give me chills.

Me too! I can imagine that when the song finally does drop in full, I will instantly gravitate to the 30 seconds of it that appears in the sizzle reel and envision the girl in the hat mouthing the word "strange." Gah! I must have watched/listened to the sizzle reel 50 times over the weekend, and I just cannot get over my intense love for this song. The vocal, the violin, the lyrics, the melody, the owl, the video... it's just perfection. "...she dropped... to the forest floor... frozen..." Such a haunting image!

Exactly. This is why I love "Moonlight" too.
I notice a lot of fans are calling the song just "Moonlight" rather than "Moonlight...A Vampire's Dream", so maybe the short version will eventually stick.

I am officially addicted to this "sizzle reel" The songs are amazing (even though they are short clips they really pull you in) It is so exciting to get a view of what seems to be a very cohesive collabaration between Stevie and the producers. The music is what matters the most and I can't get these songs out of my head :woohoo: They are all so unique and interesting. I think I am starting to understanding the blood on the tracks quote from David Wilde now. As for the video, some of the images may be a little strange but the promotion seems to be well thought out. To me the Stevie "movie" is just gonna be such a bonus. Did I mention Im excited :blob2:

Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm slightly obsessed... I was singing it around my house during my spring break last week to the point where my dad instantly recognized it by the end of the week. I think it's going to be one of my favorite Stevie tracks in a long time, or at least I hope.

Agreed, but I'd further that by pointing out, that Stevie specifically stated in several interview's already, that she was inspired by a "scene" in New Moon. She immediately drew parallels from that section of the movie, to something she experienced, and it also reminded her of the song LFTM, thus it evolving into Moonlight-A Vampires Dream.
Piling on the Love for MOONLIGHT - A Vampires Dream. I find *everything* about the song from the clip utterly sterling. Again, as I said in the "Favorite Snippet thread", this song just feels like the right way to open the record, in the grand tradition of Stevie's best opening presentations.

Just wait until you hear the piano part in it- you'll love it even more!
It was during this song that I gave Stevie a little thumbs up when I was at the sunset sessions event last month. She responded with a big smile and clinched her fists together. Sigh..

I've never heard that before. I thought it was done by either Stevie or Lindsey. The idea for the album cover was Lindsey's, based on the movie promo pic for Double Suicide (http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMjA2NTQyMDc1M15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwOTU4MzYyMQ@@._V1._SY317_CR3,0,214,317_.jpg).

Just a question to the moderators: this thread is the very FIRST MOMENT that most of us came across the Movie Trailer Premiere (thanks largely to Jondalar's observation and sleuthing). Can this thread be "stickied" to the top of the Stevie board for a few weeks? What do you think?

Sorry to go off topic, but Holly Sh@t. I did not know this. If indeed SYW (the album cover) was inspired by Double Suicide the parallels are too impossible to ignore:shocked:."The story is very Shakespearean, and is about two doomed lovers. This time, however, Jihei (Kichiemon Nakamura) is married and has two children, while Koharu (Shima Iwa****a) is a high-priced courtesan in the red light district".:o:laugh:
Back on topic, I've gorged wayyY too much on the trailer the last few days that I'm forcing it into temporary retirement. These clips keep playing over and over in my head, haunting me. So with only 4 1/2 weeks to go, and now that I feel I have a good sense of this record, any fears I've had have been quelled. I'll just gonna sit back and enjoy the rest of the ride. I do hope we get to hear another entire track before release date. But I'm pretty sure in about 3 1/2 more weeks, closer to May 3rd, the record will be available to preview/listen via promotional streaming.
Again, the song that I'm completely obsessed with is "Moonlight". More so after someone on this board who's claimed to have heard the song yesterday stated: he "did not like the Moonlight song at first...it does not have that big driving feel throughout like the snippet...it seemed long and a little sluggish before it built to what you hear in the video". Regardless, I'm pretty sure I'll love this song. So if it does have peaks and valleys musically, that is even more intriguing to me. I love when a songs builds and builds to a climax.

I think I've played the Sizzle Reel roughly a thousand times since it appeared online.
I've read little bits and pieces on this board about how the production seems to resemble Trouble in Shangri-La, and I definitely agree. "Moonlight" automatically reminded me of "Planets of the Universe." If there is some sort of longer, drawn out intro reminiscent of "Lady from the Mountains" prior to the part of "Moonlight" we hear in the reel, even better! I wouldn't be surprised if this song ended up on the next Twilight film's soundtrack, given the zillion times Stevie has mentioned it as her inspiration. Maybe that's part of her master plan?
The clip we've determined is likely "Wide Sargasso Sea" is by far the most interesting piece of the reel. I'm partial to cheesy filmmaking, so the deep sea diving girls in purple dresses and the heavy duty fog machine fog are instantly awesome to me. Stevie's vocals on this one are intense...arguably the most intense ones I've heard since "Fall From Grace" and "Everybody Finds Out." I'm hoping we get at least ONE live version of it. I know how quickly new tunes get dropped from the set...
The one thing that really surprised me in this thread was the lack of unanimous love for "Italian Summer." David Wild's tweet last year primed me up for loving it, and the clip in the reel certainly didn't disappoint. I have played the reel for several friends, none of whom are Stevie fans, and they all got chills when she hits the "You just have to faaaaaaaaaaall" part. I have a sinking suspicion we'll hear her referring to "Italian Summer" as the "fourth ballad" on tour this summer.
Or, more likely, she'll call it the "third ballad" because she loves the number three and is prone to rewriting her own history. ;)

MSG flashback! I had forgotten to report that during her Love Is intro, she referred to it as the third and final ballad of her career. I thought that was weird given "Italian Summer" and ... why see her career in terms of finality? Weird also cuz it would have been a good chance to bring up Italian Summer and her new album.

Ooh, that almost sounds foreboding. Maybe she sees those three songs ("Beauty and the Beast," "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You" and "Love Is") as a ballad trilogy, and "Italian Summer" doesn't fit the theme.
I've never understood her rationale on this one, since I count "Doing The Best I Can" as a ballad and "The Highwayman" as one too, yet they're overlooked in her little spiel.

Ditto. I am concerned with the track placement for this song. Next to last? To me, the clip in the video seems like the end of the song. It would be a great ending to the album. I don't see why 'Cheaper Than Free' has to close it out.

Are you counting the demo version? It is far superior to the album version and well worthy of the 3rd spot.

It's totally, 110% worthy. I like it MUCH better than "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You" and it's got a slight advantage on "Beauty and the Beast" for me too.

The 'ballad trilogy' never ceases to puzzle me. It's very obvious that Stevie has, in fact, written and recorded more than 3 ballads (if you're using modern connotation of the word) in her carreer... what is different about these songs that makes them 'ballads' in her mind, as opposed to others like Goodbye Baby, Beautiful Child, The Highwayman, etc.

My guess would be that it's not that they're the only ones, but that she sees them as thematically linked? Like a triptych or a trilogy of films/books?
As usual, she both says too much and doesn't say enough. :)

Love Is: Lindsey????

Wild Sargasso Sea!! Didn't expect anything like that. Sounds so heavy and... dark. Those drums and layers of distorted guitars are awesome. Kind of like a much-improved Illume kind of thing, can't wait to hear the full version.

The acoustic and electric guitar riffs along with the arrangement immediately drew parallels for me to Illume. Only it's Illume on steroids!! It probably also feels similarly due to the whole poem set to music vibe both songs apparently have in common. I'm only hope WSS has more of a melodic, traditional song structure. But knowing Stevie, I doubt it, just based on the spoken word part in the trailer, along with trying to weave the title Wide Sargasso Sea into a hooky chorus. But I do love Illume, and I love the passion and electricity I hear in the WWS song clip. Sounds spooky:)

Or, more likely, she'll call it the "third ballad" because she loves the number three and is prone to rewriting her own history. ;)
I think we will get along just fine.

There is no hooky chorus--your instinct is correct. But the lyrics are very bold and more sexual than anything I recall her writing/recording before. I think that will be the payoff for many of her fans.

SOunds Fantastic to me!:)
What really struck me about the record when I heard it 3 months ago or whatever was how GREAT her vocals are and how she has never sounded better.
Now, This is great to hear! This alone will place this record right up there next to her killer trilogy of BD, WH & RAL!

The Highwayman, Beauty and the Beast, HAEWAFY and Love Is are obvious... although, I'm struggling to pick the "epic" ballad from TOSOTM or SA  But, the Highwayman is better than HAEWAFY or Love Is, so I don't know why that gets exluded... I'm babbling now.

Again, I'm just guessing, but it makes sense to me that like many artists Stevie looks at her body of work as a whole, even though it of course emerges publicly in sections called 'Bella Donna' and 'Rock A Little' and so on.
In fact, perhaps the way she goes 'back' to demos, as she has just done with 'Secret Love', demonstrates this? You can even argue that all artists really just do one piece of art, but they do it over their whole lifetime. And as the end of that lifetime (or creative lifetime) approaches, Stevie can begin to look back and see a shape to what she's done, in which these three songs represent something very special to her.
It's just a theory. Other theories are available. :wavey:

I don't think she means the three ballads she has written, but rather the ones she has performed live. Since 1983, Stevie has always had a ballad in her concert set and it was always HAEWAFY or BATB. And all these years she has had one of them in there, not because they were hits bit because they were ballads and she felt a ballad was necessary for her shows. So I think in 2010 she decided to bring in another ballad other than those two and she chose Love Is. So this is now her "third ballad" and three being a very special number for her and the fact that she is 62, she realizes that this ballad she pulled out to do is going to be the last ballad she pulls out. If that makes any sense.

Am I alone in my annoyance that people tend to think that just about everything Stevie has written was or is about Lindsay? 30 years, and countless relationships later, I still constently see, "I bet that song is about Lindsay..."
Given, she does speak about their whole thing often, but thats one of those things that made them legen... (wait for it)... dary. And interviewers are always like, "Oh, tell me about that time back in '76'...."
But to think anything has been written about him since 1980 is kind of foolish, IMHO.

Keep in mind that Stevie uses lyrics/poems written in her journals over years and years to create new songs. Or as in the case of Moonlight, takes an "old" song and calls it something new. She does write alot about Lindsey. That relationship expands far beyond the romantic liason that ended in 1976. She has been "married" to him and that band for nearly 40 years. I tend to think very few songs are about Lindsey exclusively. Just the early stuff, and the odd song or two in later years.
There have been so many men in Stevie's life - I'm sure there are songs about all of them...little pieces about each guy, paired together into larger compositions.

Yes, it was confirmed by the director of the Destiny Rules documentary that the SYW cover was inspired by the Double Suicide photo - and was Lindsey's idea. He didn't confirm who drew the sketch of Stevie that was on the mantel (and is also in the IYD trailer), but I'll guess Stevie drew it to illustrate her pose for the SYW cover shoot.

First. I'm on the STEVIE board, so the correct spelling of his name means nothing to me. He's a great artist/producer, don't get me wrong there. But don't try to prove a point by childishly nit-picking spelling. It doesn't work with me.
Perhaps it was foolish of me to make a 1980 cut off for songs, but a half a decade of being/living together hardly consititues a marraige, despite how they've marketed the relationship. Especially when there were many men who came after him.
As for the SYW album cover. Ummm, why WOULDN"T the two leads be on the cover together? FM has been marketed as a "soap opera" band since Rumours. And of course they're going to try to keep that ancient drama alive in any and all future albums they do together. Thanks for the attack, but no-thanks.
I'm not hear to cause drama, and my comment was in no way to attack anyone on this board, it was something that I noticed on Buckinghamnicks.com, and I felt compelled to make note of it. This is a very exciting year for all of us, and I hate to get off on the wrong foot, but I will always say what I think, and defend it. But to think anything has been written about him since 1980 is kind of foolish, IMHO.
Since she keeps saying that songs are about him, I don't see what's so foolish about it. She just said that Everybody Loves You is about him -- at least her part of it is, according to her.
Granted, that's an easy answer for her. She probably says a song is about him when she doesn't want to reveal who it's really about, when she can't remember what it's really about, and when she knows it's an amalgamation of everything and nothing and just thinks "Lindsey" is a quick, pat answer.
But since she has gone around non-stop from the 80s today saying that she is constantly writing songs about him, it's no surprise to me that fans continue to think both old and new songs are, indeed, about him.

Oh definitely, especially when you consider what she has said about thinking she was God (Celestia). "I said I was going to put God away; she's been here awhile."
And since he was dating her while on tour, "the band played on" fits. She said they had fun, but when she joined him on the road she was visiting Lindsey's life and not living her own and I can see the band playing on meaning that he continued to tour and indulge in his music while their budding relationship just fell by the wayside.
The song may not only be about her, but I certainly think it touches on her growing dementia from that period. And I think Miranda references the abuse she says she suffered at her father's hands.

I heard that Anne Heche had been abused when she was younger. Not sure what kind of abuse or by whom. Anyway, I heard that the song was about her hiding from the abuse or abuser, trying to get over it and possibly being somewhat self-destructive for a period of time.
Here are the lyrics (cut and pasted from a lyrics site which may or may not have every word right). I can see it. It seems to fit:
At the end of the day the end of the light
She keeps the remains of all of her foes
Miranda is dying with all of her might
She never come she always goes
She sticks the camera right into her arm
Anything to forget what the trouble's about
It causes her pain that's part of the charm
She's down for the count then finally out
Miranda is taking the stars down
A little something to call her own
But the lion still rules Miranda
And Miranda is always alone
She sees her face in another magazine
And the walls all close in as the fancy takes flight
Can't stand to be loved but she loves to be seen
She slips down headlong into the night
Miranda is taking the stars down
A little something to call her own
But the lion still rules Miranda
And Miranda is always alone
And then all at once the sun starts to rise
She sees her father holding her down
Oh the daylight is poison to her eyes
She slips down the shade and lets herself drown
Miranda is taking the stars down
A little something to call her own
But the lion still rules Miranda
And Miranda is always alone
The lights shot down the marina all across her safety zone
But loneliness follows Miranda and Miranda is always alone

I heard that Anne Heche had been abused when she was younger. Not sure what kind of abuse or by whom.
She said she was sexually abused by her father as a child. She talked about that in her Barbara Walters interview and her book too. I think "She sees her father holding her down," applies.
In her book, she also discussed having a split personality and, having been raised as a fundamentalist Christian, her alter ego was someone named Celestia who actually thought she was God. I think that would be Come territory. She also came to believe she could fly. At one point, she says, "and then I leapt with all my might" and it reminded me so much of Miranda, "dying with all of her might."
I also think that her need for attention back then defines the line, "she sticks the camera right into her arm" and can't stand to be loved, but she loves to be seen.

Wow... how in the world did we transfer from the In Your Dreams trailer to arguing over Anne Heche? Gotta love the randomness of this board! :p
it happens in every thread...the topic wanders off into something else totally different. but so do all conversations...

My name is Stevie Nicks:
Love it. I think this is a tool to introduce or reintroduce Stevie to people that come across this. A cute little black, hispanic or oriental girl would have been a good strike. A little drag queen would have been over the top , but I wouldn't have blinked.
Italian Summer:
HEY BITCHES TOP THIS!!!!
Heira, where are you? Do you think an Asian girl would be more appropriate?
How did she get the swear word to post? Is it because it is capitalized? This must be the secret to getting the swears to show. Ill try it. Oh ****.

Wow, I am beyond impressed.
Lori looks absolutely stunning in that first clip.
I am glad to see some older ledgies coming out of the woodwork. :)
I agree with you about Lori.
Why are you glad to see older Ledgies? Will you say hello to them if you see them at a concert or will you run in the other direction cause you don't want to be embarassed in front of your family?:wavey::p

Bump! My 5 year old son Sagan took the IPhone from me to watch this. He says Stevie's voice is beautiful.I couldn't find this on YouTube or though the NicksFix and had to come to this thread to find it again.

Meanwhile, Annabel Lee twittered:
Lindsey played on “Soldiers Angel.” You’ll hear it soon enough - be patient - it’s worth it.

I also assumed it was about her, based on what she wrote about him in her book.
What did she write? I often forget they were a couple....

Perhaps it was foolish of me to make a 1980 cut off for songs, but a half a decade of being/living together hardly consititues a marraige, despite how they've marketed the relationship. Especially when there were many men who came after him.
Tony
Actually Tony you're incorrect about how long Stevie and Lindsey were together, because you're assuming a 1975-1980 timeline (if I'm understanding you correctly here). Stevie and Lindsey broke up during the making of Rumours so that is likely 1976 for the break-up. I don't recall exactly when they first got together, but they were together years before the making of Buckingham Nicks, and I think Buckingham Nicks came out in 1973 (about 2 years prior to the Fleetwood Mac album in 1975).
Here's an interesting article where Nicks talks about Buckingham, and she makes a very interesting comment that she only knew their relationship was really over when his first child was born (which was just shortly after the album The Dance came out!): http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1609042/fleetwood-macs-stevie-nicks-talks-lindsey-buckingam.jhtml
