Who's watching? So far, the girls are kicking the boys butts, imo. Although I didn't care much for Jenny.
Gotta give it up for the homegirl, Patrice Pike (she's the one who did Somebody to Love). She's been around the local scene a long time, I hope she does well, she deserves it.

She was really, really good- I think vocally, she was the best. I also liked Storm and Dilana (SO nasty- I *love* it!). None of the guys really impressed me.

I'm going to vote for some of them but I can't remember their names. :o The girl that did the Nirvana song is scary. I liked the guy from Australia and the girl that sang first. I didn't care for the Puerto Rican girl's voice but she had stage presence. The girl that did Janis reminded me just a tad too much of Pamela Anderson.

So far I'm not into any of the singers unlike last year when I loved Jordis right from the start. I thought a lot of them sucked. The guy doing "Roxanne" was one of the worst things I've ever heard. I thought Dana (I think) who did Melissa Etheridge has a good voice. The Nirvana chick was creepy.

Exactly. I love that crazy bitch, she's exactly what they need.
I didn't watch last season, but happened to turn it on last night. Ended up voting for Dilana, Storm, Lukas & the little blond chick that did Janis.
The guy who mauled Roxanne should go. Like, now. The other boys were OK, but nothing special. The Puerto Rican girl is gorgeous, and has a nice voice, but it was obvious that she was way out of her range with the Evanesence tune. I don't think she's good enough.

Ohmigod - I knew I recognized her (and her voice). I was flipping between the Dance contest & Rockstar, and I only caught her halfway through her song. I obviously missed her bio...
I used to go to Sister7 shows on 6th St. with some lesbian friends. They were all about The Patrice. She has certainly changed (in 10 years). Still sounds great tho. It's a shame she never got more support - that band had some great songs.
As for the show ... meh. The band said several times they were looking for "nasty" and "dirty", and the only one who really fit that bill was the last guy Lukas (?).

Lukas was the only talented guy of the night...we'll see what happens, though. I think I lot of the boys were really nervous, first night jitters...

I really didn't want to watch this again because I could care less about any band with Tommy Lee in it, but I got sucked back in though I don't for how long. There's a person there from close to where I live; he's from Ocean City, MD; I think his name is Phillip. He was in the bottom three last night, & I hate to say it, but I can see why. He's not very good. Anyway, I fell asleep at the end, so I'm not sure who left. I'm not sure of all their names yet either. I did like the girl with the guitar. I don't know why, but she reminded me of Sheryl Crow. And I like the guy that sang after her on Wednesday, not sure of his same. Everyone is just so strange looking; so many tattoos. Could they pick a stranger group? Oh well, maybe one of them will fit in with "Supernova".

I find Navarro to be a phony dirtbag, which is why I don't like him.
I'm having trouble getting into this season of Rockstar. Last year was sort of fun because it brought back INXS nostalgia and I got to look at JD twice a week. The contestants were also a lot more interesting last year, in my opinion.
Lukas is obviously setting himself up as the aggressive and competitive "bad boy", a la JD Fortune. Dilana still frightens me, but my money is on her already.
What was that guy thinking doing a Duran Duran song?
Is it just a coincidence that the entire front row is filled with pretty young chicks with huge knockers?
And I guess I'm really getting quite old, but I find this kind of "dialogue" to be close to intolerable:
Navarro: "Dude, what's up"
Dude: "Chillin'"
Navarro: "Right on, dude. So, any regrets about last night's performance, man?"
Dude: "Nah, I gotta be me, and rock and roll is all about being yourself, know what I mean?"
Navarro: "Right on. It's rock and roll dude".

Magni-My Generation-good, most improved performer compared to last week.
Jenny-Tainted Love-meh-I found her eye make-up distracting - cracked up when Dave told her she looked starving and to eat a sammich.
Jill-Violet-she sucked!! And Dave was right, how could anyone NOT know that album cover? I also felt that Jill was copying Dilana's manic performance from last week. Like she was thinking, "Oh, that's what they like? Okay, I'll do that." Wrong!
Zayra-You Really Got Me-I keep wanting her to do a Pretenders song, w/ that haircut she has. She sucked. And insulting the band was a bad idea. She probably thought Van Halen wrote it...
Chris-Take Me Out-he should have been taken out last week. Hate him.
Dilana-Ring of Fire-loved it-loved her outfit-but I keep hearing Marianne Faithful whenever she opens her mouth. She's got a unique look, but I want more from her singing. I think she'll make the top 3, since the band seems to adore her, and she would be a good fit.
Josh-Arms Wide Open-bleech. He does nothing for me.
Phil-If You Could Only See-see comment above re: Josh. I don't get why the band likes him so much either. He also needs to eat a sammich.
Storm-Surrender-I liked it, and totally agreed w/ the band re: the Broadway comments. She needs to quit making the cheesy facial expressions.
Patrice-Heart Shaped Box-Major points for playing the guitar. Despite the botched lyrics, the band loves her, she's got nothing to worry about. Did she really f*ck up or was her mike f*cked up? I was out of the room for a few seconds.
Ryan-Jumpin' Jack Flash-Nothing "rocker" about him to me. He screamed the end, and was off-key as well. He looks like Jerry Seinfeld's brother, not a rock star.
Dana-Born to Be Wild-she can sing, but she's too young. And dressing up like a rocker doesn't make you one.
Lukas-Coldplay song-He took a risk w/ the ballad-esque song choice. He nailed it. He'll make the top 3, despite the mongloid look and huge forehead he's got going on...
Toby-Killers song-good voice, good stage presence, but I'm just not picturing him in Supernova. Sorry...
I'm voting for: Patrice, Lukas, Storm and Dilana. Just like last week....maybe I'll throw a bone to Magni as well.

It's worse than I thought: Zayra had never heard of "You Really Got Me." Ever. During rehearsals, the house band thought she sucked. They don't care much for Chris either.

OK, anyway. I'll have to find vid of Dilana doing Ring of Fire. I adore that song, it inadvertantly became our wedding song (long story...) Do they post the performances on the website? I love that freaky bitch.

Surrender - the Cheap Trick tune? That's cool, I like Storm.

I really wanted to enjoy the show this year, but I am finding it almost intolerable.
Last year's gang had character and personality. As did the INXS guys. This year, everyone is cold and plastic.
Dilana was awesome and I would just cancel the season and give her the gig. It's amazing what an influence Stevie continues to have. If there were no Stevie, that performance would have been completely different.
Toby is handsome and talented and makes a good runner-up. Phil would have made a good candidate for the INXS job.
Outside of that, I felt like I was watching karaoke. Were these really the best 15 out of the auditions?

Yes, she was, but I thought the band was rude to her first. They blasted her for supposedly not knowing what they are looking for, but she was right when she said that they haven't said what they want. Instead of trying to do all the canned rocker moves and sounds like 80% of them, she did something different.

OK, I was able to see half of the performances (for some reason it only gave me half of them.) I still like Dilana, but wasn't blown away. It was more the arrangement that I disliked rather than her. Her performance was extremely Stevie-esque, in a good way.
Jill - WTF. Not a good idea to totally copy/imitate the original artist. Love Violt, love Hole, but she wasn't great.
I also caught Patrice & Storm, both pretty good. Zayra sucked. The boys I saw were not very memorable.

Band Sues CBS Show Over Supernova Name
By SANDY COHEN
AP Entertainment Writer
Jul 11, 9:29 PM EDT
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- What happens when two Supernovas collide? Lawsuit. A Southern California rock band called Supernova has filed a complaint against Mark Burnett's CBS reality show "Rock Star: Supernova," saying it had the name first.
The complaint, filed June 27 in U.S. District Court, claiming unfair competition and trademark infringement, seeks to bar the show and its participants from using the Supernova name. It is also asks for compensatory and punitive damages.
"Our clients believe they have the superior right on the mark Supernova," the band's attorney, John Mizhir, told The Associated Press Tuesday, adding that the band "has a long-standing common-law trademark right to the mark."
The group first performed under the name Supernova in 1991, according to the lawsuit. The band released several singles and three full-length albums under the name, the lawsuit says.
The CBS show using the name first aired July 5. "Rock Star: Supernova" follows 15 contestants who aspire to become the lead singer of Supernova, a new rock band that includes former Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, former Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke and former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted. The winner will tour with the band and appear on its album.
According to the lawsuit, representatives for Mark Burnett Productions ("Survivor," "The Apprentice") filed seven U.S. trademark applications for the name Supernova and two for "Rock Star: Supernova."
Gary Hecker, an attorney for Mark Burnett Productions, said the company has the legal right to the name.
"The complaint is without merit," he said.

^ Yeah, I wasn't a big fanso I'm not too upset. But Zayra should have been kicked off! To try out for a band & not have any of their albums? Dumbass. Then she pulls out "I was too poor, blah blah blah" for sypathy. Well, have you been poor for the last few weeks? Cuz you should have downloaded some tunes or spent the $15 on one of their Greatest Hits CD. I mean, come on.
And then to sing the SAME song again (and sing it more suckily, I might add?) I'm shocked she's still there. Plus, I think she ripped off Dilana's week 1 performance with all that jumping around. Difference is, Dilana looked like the cool, crazy bitch that she is. Zayra looked like a spaz trying too hard to be someone she's not. I hate her.
Jill is one lucky girl - you had no idea that Coutney Love already did that act 15 years ago? Really? I mean, the imitation was so apparent, and she wasn't singing she was screeching. Her vocal was 1000 times better last night.

Yeah, Jill redeemed herself and now I wouldn't mind seeing what she does next. Zayra, however, can suck it. Good point, she coulda bought some best of's over the last couple of weeks and at least had the respect and courtesy to familiarize herself with the music.

Hanging with the Rock Star crowd, ANDREW RYAN finds the ability to embrace the lifestyle -- the catfights, the mansion, the chance to break stuff with Tommy Lee -- just as important as the singing talent
ANDREW RYAN
E-mail Andrew Ryan | Read Bio | Latest Columns
PASADENA, CALIF. -- Rock 'n' roll is still a vicious game, except for the wide-eyed hopefuls who luck onto the Rock Star: Supernova fast track. The reality series has condensed the usual years of struggle and dues-paying into loud TV sound bites for convenient viewer consumption. Rock Star is not about the music, it's about rock attitude, and turning total unknowns into TV stars. And the Rock Star machine is even slicker when viewed up close.
Sometimes you have to discover these things for yourself. CBS squired a handful of TV critics to the Rock Star taping last Sunday afternoon. The taping was for the show airing this evening, a performance episode in which all 12 finalists were closely scrutinized by the members of Supernova -- a "supergroup" consisting of heavy-metal icons Tommy Lee, Jason Newstead and Gilby Clarke -- who happen to be seeking a lead singer.
Rock Star: Supernova is the sequel to last summer's semi-hit Rock Star: INXS, which found a singer for the 1980s Australian group. What was once was pop is now metal.
Rock Star is taped at the CBS studios in Hollywood. Tickets are free, and the network can't keep up with requests. There's no confusing the Rock Star followers with those lined up for The Price is Right, which tapes around the corner. The Rock Star fans are younger and most are dressed rock-star chic: jeans and T-shirts on the males; miniskirt, heels and tank tops on the ladies. Some rock traditions remain absolute.
The freezing-cold set is made up to resemble the Mayan Theatre, a legendary Los Angeles rock venue, and the studio audience was already seated when critics arrived. Except for the hundred or so people on the floor surrounding the performance stage, who were receiving instructions from the warm-up host: "The people around the stage should have the most energy of anyone," he told the crowd. "Put your hands on your heads or whatever; it looks good on TV."
The pep talk worked and the audience roared when host Dave Navarro was introduced. They went wilder yet for the arrival of Supernova. Last out was co-host Brooke Burns, who launched right into the show with a clip, taped days earlier, of contestants squabbling over the song selection. Two females fighting over Helter Skelter. Bad blood is thereby established.
And the victor went first. The stringy-haired contestant Patrice took the stage to sing Helter Skelter, delivering the song in short screeching bursts. The camera cut repeatedly to the other female singer, the one who lost the fight. She looked angry.
Navarro told Patrice: "Baby, you sounded killer!" Navarro subsequently referred to the female Rock Star contestants as "sweetheart," "sweetie" and, on a few occasions, "man."
The next singer was an unsure young fellow named Josh, who nonetheless executed a near-letter perfect impression of the late Kurt Cobain on Nirvana's Come As You Are. The judges seemed nonplussed. "Don't forget these guys [Supernova] are going to be playing Wembley Stadium, not a coffee house," Navarro said. Lee chimed in: "I want to see you break ****!"
Rock-star attitude is an obvious asset on Rock Star. The third contestant was a tawny bottle blonde named Storm who struck and held a defiant rock-chick pose throughout her version of The Cars' Just What I Needed. The performance was shambling and off-key, but the judges perked up. Lee suggested Storm show more skin; Storm suggested Lee look her up on the Internet.
During a short break, Rock Star staffers kept the energy level pumped by throwing T-shirts to the audience; the contestants danced, stretched and preened in the contestant box, where they sat for the entire 90-minute taping. The members of Supernova ran outside to smoke cigarettes.
Upon return, the taping resumed with a performance by Toronto-born Lukas Rossi, a slight young man dressed in an all-black Edwardian-style suit replete with wide white tie. Lukas wore ample eyeliner and his spiky hair boasted a skunk-like white streak. Dude certainly looks like a rock star.
The Canadian entrant performed a heavy-metal take on the Rolling Stones' Let's Spend the Night Together, and ran around the stage like a young Mick Jagger throughout the song. It was the most electrified performance of the show, and the Rock Star panel knew it. Navarro told Lukas he was arrogant, which was intended as a compliment. Lee said: "You're raising the bar, and I'm raising the bar stool!" Navarro added a proviso: "Dude, no matter what happens, at the end of this show, you're getting laid."
The second Canadian contestant, Vancouver native Jenny Galt, came out near the end of the program. A tall blonde, she stood directly in the Rock Star spotlight with, an enormous acoustic guitar strapped around her thin frame, and sang the soulful ballad Drive by the group Incubus. It was a credible performance, but Navarro spent most of the appraisal time praising her knee-high white boots.
The closing act was the weird and very popular Dilana, a 34-year-old woman from Houston by way of South Africa. She, too, has the look. Visually, Dilana is a mix of Stevie Nicks and Axl Rose; vocally, she's a Marianne Faithfull impersonator. Dilana sang a revved-up version of Zombie, a former hit for the Cranberries. The audience went berserk; the judges were wowed. Each judge told Dilana she made the song her own, compared with the original vocal by Irish singer Dolores O'Riordan. Filing out of the soundstage, the non-paying crowd looked exactly like any group of people leaving a rock concert: happy, sweaty and a little drained. Those people went home, but the TV critics' field trip included a bus ride to the Rock Star mansion for a post-show party and a taste of that decadent rock lifestyle. Good rockin' tonight.
The show's rules dictate that contestants must reside in the mansion for the 13-week duration. There's more room each week as the singers are knocked off one by one and sent home. The mansion is hidden in a remote location, somewhere up a hillside in West Hollywood, and the ride there took forever. On the way, we discussed the show among ourselves and there was near-unanimous agreement that the final two would be the strange Dilana and the Canadian kid, Lukas. Even the American critics were knocked out by him.
The mansion was, as expected, L.A. huge. I'm not sure where contestants slept, but the place just went on and on. The location doubles as a recording studio, and there was a swimming pool and a performance stage in the living room -- standard rock-star accoutrements. The party seemed to be sponsored by a vodka company, and there were cocktails with tiny glowing light sticks in them. The Rock Star hopefuls wandered in and I immediately sought out the Canadians, as anyone might do in a foreign country. I chatted to both, and they are entirely different rock-and-roll animals.
Jenny has sung in Vancouver rock bands for years, although she was working as a waitress when the call came from Rock Star. She was still shaky from the taping, but very polite and terribly sweet. And she was devastated. She seemed convinced that she had bombed, even though Navarro liked her boots.
"I'm pretty sure I'm going to be in the bottom three," she said, referring to the weekly ejection show, which airs tomorrow night. "I've just got to turn it around and hope for the best. And I should probably lose the guitar; they already know I can play guitar, right?"
The other Canadian, however, was a little more confident. Lukas kept on the eyeliner, smoked cigarettes and displayed a rock-star attitude far beyond his years.
"This is all bells and whistles, baby," he said, gesturing somewhere in the direction of the swimming pool. "All the grandeur of this doesn't really make sense to me. I'd be just as happy in a sleeping bag, living on the street, just as long as I can wake up and get on-stage in front of people, who really appreciate what I'm doing. . . . It's rock and roll, that's the bottom line, baby."
We may have a winner.

7/18/2006 I'm Getting Remarried!!!
Yes. I'm finally getting remarried...it's been a whirlwind...spontaneous but well thought through. Feels like I've been stuck in a time warp. Not able to let go of MY family picture...it's been sad and lonely and frustrating....I've raised my kids alone in hope of a miracle. Well my miracle came and went. And came back and came back because he knew that I'd wake up one day and realize that I was waiting for nothing. I'm moving on...I feel like I'm finally free....I'm in love. I'm happy....I see the light...sounds dramatic but it's true.....I know some women can relate to this....My children are getting older. They know the truth and they are strong, smart kids. They love their Dad. They love their new Step Dad who they've known for years...time will pass. Wounds will heal. Some people may never grow up. Actions speak louder than words....watch!

^ You dirty bird!
Tonight was the best week so far, I thought. I still love & hate the same people, and I still say f*ck everyone else, Dilana's the winner. BUT I do like Storm a lot, Jill & Patrice are good too. Phil, Lukas & Magni were OK this week, but not good enough for me to bother to vote for them. :D
Zayra sucked, I can't believe they liked her this week. She's not that hot, she's awkward on stage & her voice is very screechy. Yuck.

How about Dilana's twirling and tambo playing? I love her!!!
My favorites tonight besides her - Patrice, Storm, Lukas, Magni, and I never thought I'd say this, but Phil was very good!
Jenny needs to go - she took a rock song and made it sound like Hillary Duff pop rock.
I loved Storm's reply to Tommy...
Do you guys watch the reality footage on msn? They had voice lessons, so it was interesting to see how they applied the pointers they got from the voice chick. Or not.

I actually thought he did pretty well last night. I think he might be improving. It was Phil's 28th birthday yesterday. The local rock station that I listen to actually sent a DJ (female) out there to help him celebrate it. Apparently he knows her (Roxy). The DJs that I listen to a 3 p.m. here called Phil one time & chatted with him a few minutes. They don't like the guy (Lukas?) with the weird hair & pink eye shadow. They wanted Phil to punch his lights out.

I watched the reality show last nite: *spoilers*
During their clinic, they broke off into 3 teams and had to write lyrics and melody to a Supernova song and then perform it in front of the band. Lukas and Jill were being difficult...and then they all had dinner together and drank Jaeger shots. The song selection for tonight - Gilby left them a note saying that whoever picked Brown Sugar got to do it with him - Jill got it. They showed a clip of her rehearsing with Gilby and she wanted to change the key to E. Gilby said something like, "You singers are so difficult, you always want to change the key to suit your voice, but it makes the guitar sound like sh*t."
Some of the other songs: Call Me, another Nirvana song (Dana's doing it), I Alone, that's all I can remember.

I wanna hug Phil. He looked so defeated last night. In his blog at the MSN Rockstar site..he says that the show is bugging him because the band is CLEARLY hard rock and yet they are giving them songs like One Headlight and Time After Time (didn't care for Dilana's version...I did like ROF though).
Jason needs to get over the damn wobbling. That's his thing. I like that Tommy said "Don't lose that." Why should he change what he's been doing for many, many years?
I thought Marty did I Alone better last year, but Ryan was okay. Not a fan though.
Josh needs to go...along with Jill, Zayda and Patrice who bores me to tears.
I cannot stand Lukas' voice. There's no way I could listen to him for long. Unless he opens that voice like they want him to...Dilana is gonna win this thing, hands down.
Toby is hot and I like his voice.
Magni is average to me.
Storm...I like her voice at times, but not at others. Wierd.
Dana...didn't see her performance. She's not rock...I don't care what they say.

I liked Dana a lot last night, after having really disliked her before. Storm and Dilana's performances were the best by far. My husband couldn't get past Dilana's outfit though--he said she looked like a clown.
Josh could have done much more with his song. He needs to just perform the song he gets to the max rather than complain that the song selections don't have enough soul. Patrice was dull, and I agree that her lighting was really bad. I liked what Dilby said about Jill's grinding--cheap and easy, or something? She did look really cheap. She needs to behave like the leader of the band instead of a drunken groupie.
I think Zayra will definitely go tonight.

Pike's streak
Austin singer's 'Rock Star' hopes are still alive
By Michael Corcoran
AMERICAN-STATESMAN STAFF
Saturday, July 29, 2006
Patrice Pike was not going to be intimidated by Hollywood hotshot guitarist Dave Navarro.
The Austin singer, who once fronted Sister 7 and currently performs as a solo artist, has been in sink-or-swim meetings with legendary label boss Clive Davis. She's been signed to three major labels in the years since she fronted Dallas funk/jam band Little Sister as a teenager. Where her career is concerned, Pike's not going to back down from someone whose biggest claim to fame is marrying (and recently separating from) Carmen Electra.
"OK, Patrice, I'm not seeing anything different and, frankly, I'm getting a little bored," Navarro told Pike on Tuesday night's episode of "Rock Star: Supernova," which is "American Idol" with a pierced lip. Pike had just performed a version of "Remedy" by the Black Crowes.
"Do you do a lot of things differently when you perform, Dave?" Pike shot back. Ooh, testy. Some in the crowd gasped.
But then Navarro, who's one of the show's executive producers as well as a co-host, put it all into perspective: "The difference is that I already have a job and I'm not auditioning."
The ultimate "singer wanted" classified, "Rock Star: Supernova" is a summer-long CBS reality show out to find a lead singer for a new "supergroup" consisting of drummer Tommy Lee (ex-Mötley Crüe), bassist Jason Newsted (ex-Metallica) and guitarist Gilby Clarke (who was in Guns N' Roses for a minute and a half). Somehow, the 35-year-old Pike — who has toured with touchy feely femme fest Lilith Fair — finds herself in the middle of all this, battling kids named Storm and Magni for the right to sing Tommy Lee songs. But she's not going to apologize for seizing an opportunity.
"I don't think there are too many musicians out there who wouldn't want to perform in front of 5 million people a week on national TV," Pike said after surviving week four's elimination, which aired Wednesday. For the first time, Pike found herself as one of the bottom three vote-getters and thus had to sing for her "Rock Star" life. And did she ever! Pike pulled out a riveting performance of Radiohead's "My Iron Lung" that had Lee exclaiming, "That's what I'm talking about!" In two minutes, Pike went from the bottom to the top.
Still, Pike has virtually no chance of fronting the Supernova band-to-be. She'll ride this rockin' rollercoaster as long as she can, hopefully to the round where the contestants sing their own compositions.
Lukas Rossi, the gaunt, gothy, glitter rocker, seems a shoo-in to be the Scott Weiland vocalist in this Velvet Revolver knock-off. Although a vote by viewers determines the bottom three acts, judges Lee, Newsted and Clarke pick the one that has to leave the show each week, and Rossi should be the last rocker standing. If the band goes the unexpected route, selecting a frontwoman, look for them to tap Houston's Dilana — Stevie Nicks in need of an exorcist — who will least make a female-fronted Supernova sound like Heart.
Tell Pike that she just doesn't fit with this over-the-hill, bad boy rock band and she'll disagree. "I'd love to be in this band," she said. "I've been chilling for two years with my solo stuff. I miss being in a rock band. I'm ready to cut loose."
Expect Supernova to cut Pike loose around Week 8.
And if you think it'll bum her out to read that, don't worry. Pike and her fellow "Rock Star: Supernova" hopefuls are holed up like a deliberating jury, with no phones, no TV, no Internet access and no newspapers. Pike has a list of five people she can call, twice a week, for 15 minutes, on a monitored cell phone. They can't talk about the show or any aspects of the music business. There's no coaching in "Rock Star."
"Don't tell me anything about what's happening on the outside world," Pike prepped a reporter on Monday, interview day, at the converted convent in the Hollywood Hills where the contestants live together. Pike has no idea that "Patrice Watch" parties have become a regular Tuesday night happening in her home town. During a recent lunch hour at Enoteca on South Congress Avenue, strangers at adjoining tables were debating Pike's chances after overhearing a conversation. "Who's the girl who told Tommy to Google her?" asked one diner. Told it was Storm Large, who's got naughty pics on the Internet, the woman said, "I think she'll go all the way. There's chemistry with her and the band." The show's addictive.
"Probably the worst thing about this experience is the isolation," said Pike, who nailed the cattle call tryout in April, then spent a long week auditioning in L.A. before making the on-air cut. She gets paid each week, but business partner Todd Walker declined to say how much. Pike has had to put her solo career on hold, postponing a European tour and pushing back the release date of her new record until "Rock Star" wraps in late September. Or until she's sent home.
"I really want to win this thing, and I think I've got a chance," she said. "I'm just so comfortable onstage. I don't get the jitters."
She's certainly the most experienced rocker in contention, with some of the other contenders often picking her brain for career advice. Just how does it feel to get signed to Arista by record company legend Clive Davis, then watch him get fired a few months later, putting your record in limbo? Pike is one of the few folks who could answer that.
"Everybody gets along so well in the house," she said. "We have a lot of respect for each other, knowing just what we had to do to get here." But what about that Week 3 dustup with Jill Giola, termed a "catfight" by Tommy Lee? "They made a big deal about that on the show, but it was really nothing," Pike said. The cameras caught her and Giola in a heated moment after Pike claimed "Helter Skelter" by the Beatles as her song to perform that night. "It was just a misunderstanding. Jill wanted to do another song anyway." It was all patched up by show time, and Pike and Giola were sitting together holding hands.
There's very little of that kind of behind-the-scenes drama on "Rock Star: Supernova," where almost all the action happens onstage. "When I was deciding whether or not to try out for the show, the thing that convinced me was because the music was the most important element," Pike said. Created by Mark Burnett, who brought us "Survivor" and "The Apprentice," the show is a follow-up to last year's "Rock Star: INXS," which has been credited with re-igniting the Australian group's popularity.
Just as in the inaugural season, when the more charismatic Marty Casey was passed over for J.D. Fortune, who gelled better with the band, the most talented singer won't necessarily be chosen to front Supernova (which might be forced to change its name because it's just been sued by a California band that has had the name since 1989). Pike has the tattoos and the 'tude; she just needs to convince Lee, Newsted and Clarke that she's the singer who can make them matter again.
"I have to challenge myself to pull out that over-the-top stage presence they're looking for," she said.
Six little letters, Ms. Pike, and they're not "Google." Six little letters: Go girl! We'll be watching.

Great article. I have to disagree on one point, though, I think Dilana would be the expected choice. Or at least she should be, if they want to set themselves apart from other bands.

I just caught up on Tivo.
This is bullsh*t.
Zayra has been in the bottom three every week (or almost), she has no interest in being in this band, is only trying to get noticed for a solo career, and by the way she totally sucks.
Phil should have gone eventually, but his White Rabbit from last week and the Failure song from this week qualified him to stay longer than Zayra. They only kept her to see what she will (or won't) wear next week.
And maybe next week Tommy Lee will wear some fricking shoes.
I love Phil, he can bring his long wobbly neck and puppy Suzanna Hoffs eyes (spot on, Livia!) over to my place anytime.
And...I'm totally in the Dilana fan club. She can do no wrong and I saw a very softened, pretty look on her face yesterday.

Should have been Zayra. BUT - as soon as Phil replied to their question about his commitment, I knew he had just dug his own grave. He said "I do want to win this contest" or "this show" or something to that effect. He did NOT say "I want to be in this band." Nice going, ass.
I agree it was a dumb thing to say, but I don't think a single contender is doing this because they care about being in this phony pre-fab "band". They didn't even learn until this week what type of the music the "band" wants to play. It's not like INXS, which was an existing band and many of those competing had grown up as fans.
I think the majority are just trying to get noticed for solo careers. A couple, like Dilana and Lukas, might be interested in the whole band thing, but I guarantee you they will go solo just as soon contractually allowed.

Thanks for the heads up! I enjoyed listening to that. :)
I have to agree with Ryan. I really don't think Phil was interested in being the lead singer; I even read that he still wanted stick with his local band, Lennox. I'm really not sure why he was even there except to maybe get some national exposure for himself & his band.
The only people I think that would fit in with this pre-fab band is Lukas or Dilana. They are weird enough to fit right in with that bunch.
And OMG, grinding, what man wouldn't like a chick to "grind" him unless of course he was gay?

Great, Jill will probably end up doing a Stevie tune. Actually, she'd probably do OK. But I'd much prefer Dilana or even Storm to do one. Landslide would be an obvious choice, but GDW or Edge would rock.
I don't think they would deem Chris's songs hard enough(that's not the right word, but I can't think of another right now) to do on the show. LB's stuff? I don't know - it may be too guitar oriented for what they're trying to do.
The Chain would be awesome, done by a guy or chick. IMO.

***Song selection spoilers***
I just watched the reality show online. No one argued about anything this week re: song selection. Patrice is doing "Higher Ground," w/ Tommy Lee drumming. Storm is doing a stripped down, slow version of "Changes," and is worried it won't rock out enough, but she wants to show her vulnerable side. I saw "Clocks," but I don't know who got it. Zayra is doing "867-5309," and rearranged it in a way that the house band doesn't like (again). Josh is doing that Sublime song, "Santarita?" Something like that. In the confessional video footage, Storm said that people had been fighting and furniture had been broken, but I didn't see any of that and the song selection process was so mellow this week. So, I don't know if some sh*t went down or she was just being facetious.

Even though I think Zayra is awful and never sings in tune, she cracks me up and is very entertaining. I think that's why the band keeps her around.
Jill bugs the hell out of me and needs to go ASAP. I think she could sing well but she always over does it and just screams.
Dilana was good tonight but it was not my favorite perfomance of hers.
Ryan was really good although he isn't one of my favorites usually.

Patrice rocked hard this week. She'll be safe without a doubt. I liked it a lot. Ryan's piano version of "Losing My Religion" was much better that Zayra's butchering of it a few weeks ago. Magni did pretty well this week.
And Storm & Dana were spot on.
Jason doing Santaria sounded like bad karaoke to me. Toby sounded like he had to take a crap. Jill - I like her, she's cute, she can sing. But she oversang & yelled that tune so badly, she very well may go.
Dilana, Dilana, Dilana. Love the bitch, I don't think she can disappoint me. I was finally able to watch that Landslide clip on her site, I loved it.
Please. In the name of all that's holy. Let them finally kick Zayra's ass out. I literally laughed during her performance. Between her singing accent (which always makes me think of a SNL skit) and her stupid cape & leotard ensemble, I could barely get through it without peeing my pants.

Wasn't that so surprising? My husband says they're keeping her for her body- but still, she's such a joke and her singing accent is hilarious.
Dilana is perfection. I'm glad they didn't like Lukas and told him so. I think he's a little too arrogant and he always looks so pouty when someone else is performing (and doing a good job). Airports... Ughhhh!
6:47am... Sitting in the LA airport, waiting to get on board our flight to Chicago. It's way too early for this kind of thing. Today The Panic Channel has a day full of travel, acoustic radio shows, press and then finally our show this evening at The Hard Rock. We come home tomorrow morning so I can be back in time for Wednesday's elimination taping for Rockstar. After watching all of the performances yesterday, I have to say that I really have no idea who Supernova will be sending home. I'm usually wrong anyway. My best guess would be Jill or Zayra. It'll be interesting to say the least. I'd like to have the guys rip into a double or triple elimination, myself. Jill, Zayra, Josh... Later!!!!!! Thanx for playing. I know it sounds harsh, but, I mean, come on already! Let's get this thing heated up. I'm sure they can all do well on their own, but I just don't see either one of them fronting this band. Josh has a great voice, but not enough edge, Jill seems better suited as a solo artist and Zayra... She is just a total trip unto herself.

Dilana -- the song wasn't great for her, but she still mesmerizes me. I would pay to see her in concert and I plan on following her career. I found it interesting when one of Supernova said something like this is the first week they can see a woman fronting their band. Just shows what a disadvantage women have in this world, they have to perform their asses off for several weeks just to get to the point where men can envision working with a woman.
Lukas -- the first performance I loved by him. Now I get it. Still don't like him as a person, though. I no longer think Dilana has a lock on the win, especially if the guys want to play it safe and go with a guy.
Jill- snooze and will be gone tonight.
Patrice -- I really want to get into her, but just can't. She's talented, but doesn't move me.
Toby -- I'm with Dave on this one, great performance until he brought out the stupid megaphone. Didn't like that trick with JD and didn't like it last night.
Ryan -- Um, Halloween is three months away. I've hated him since he trashed Dana.
Zayra -- she will not go this week. I think the producers have ensured that she stays as along as possible because she is good for ratings.
Storm -- snooze
Josh-- weak

Zayra - it's so obvious they're keeping her around to see what she'll be wearing. I didn't think it was possible for me to hate All the Young Dudes more than I already did., but after her performance, I do.

Magni is so under the radar he failed to make any of our recaps from last night. He has improved week by week but if we don't remember him I hope he has a fan base deep enough to make it out of the bottom 3. SN seems to like him so they can probably carry him to the finals if they need to.

Thank goodness. I couldn't stand to look at either of them another week. Bye bye, Josh and Jill.
Ryan totally oversang "Enjoy the Silence." It had the potential to be a great performance. An awesome song that really suited his brooding angst and his voice. I started to like him after "Losing My Religion," but tonight I was disappointed. And his schtick for "Paint it Black" was just weird. What WAS he wearing on his head?
Storm is starting to annoy me too. "Changes" was great, but her weird eyes really bugged me last night. Her vocals were not that great either.
It was too short to do the actual song any justice.
As is he.... I did like his performance though but I'm not a fan. Too Eddie Munster for me.
And finally, YES! Lukas IS Eddie Munster. Brilliant. I wonder if he knows that is the effect he has achieved with all the work he's put into his hair, make-up and clothes? I guess I'm prejudiced against short men. :sorry:
I am still loving Dilana. Magni is my second favorite right now. Toby usually bores me, but he was great doing the Talking Heads and he looked quite hot with his jacket and tie, so he's on my A-list too for now.

Recap from http://rockstar.msn.com/recap/elimination/wk06
Unable to decide on just one of their favorite performances from last night, this week Supernova chose two encores. Lukas' vocally impressive rendition of Radiohead's "Creep" and Magni's emotional version of Live's "The Dolphin's Cry." Lukas further astounded, moving on stage and interacting with fans even more than last night. Magni also captivated, changing up his solo acoustic version by plugging into his electric guitar and rocking with the House Band.
After these crowd pleasing performances, Brooke announced five of the Rockers who were at some point in the bottom three last night. Jill, Josh, Zayra, Ryan and Patrice were called. Dave was not surprised: "There's a lot of similar faces hovering in the bottom three...it's time to crank up the heat next time."
The first Rocker announced was Jill. Belting out the soul classic "Respect," she was hoping to earn just that-- and to save herself, yet again, from elimination.
Up next was Josh. Though his last performance caused Tommy to criticize the Rocker for strapping himself to his guitar and not showing his moves, he nevertheless sang Bad Company's "Shooting Star" with guitar in hand.
Ryan was last. Rocking out Depeche Mode's "Enjoy the Silence," he took on his first elimination performance with gusto. And that gusto saved him.
But Josh and Jill? In a surprise turn, neither were safe. Before Tommy made the cut he announced: "This is going to be a first tonight. It's do or die. It's time to get this thing going...the axe is gonna fall twice." With that, both Jill and Josh were sent home. The exiting Rockers were gracious and confident and in the case of Josh, filled with good humor. Jason echoed a sentiment shared by many when he issued these parting words: "The spirit of each of you is going to be missed."

I didn't know anything about this show, but I saw the thread here, and was intrigued, so I looked at the website, and checked out the contestants. "Hey, I used to know a Storm, and there can't be many girls named Storm, right?"
Right. It is the same Storm who was my friend's housemate, back in '92. We had a lot of dinner parties, and she would come storming into the house with wild stories and a lot of energy. I came across a video of hers on public access about 8 years ago, and wasn't surprised to see her fronting a rock band, even though I had never heard her mention singing.
Anyway, this is my long-winded way of saying that I am now interested in this show, and I have gone to the site, and looked at all of the archived performances.

Yeah, I am not sure which one I would want to win. I think Dilana has the killer instinct, and I love her look. I wouldn't want to be in a band with her(I think I would want to punch her) but then no one is asking me to. What I remember about Storm besides her intensity, was that she was very bright, very sharp.
I haven't cared much for her song choices on the show, but I went and looked at some of the videos (youtube, of course) of her band in Portland, and those performances really impressed me! I think Dilana will win.

I get the chills also. If she wins, I'm definitely seeing this band in concert.
Ryan -- oversings, in my opinion.
Toby -- goodlooking, nice voice, totally competent, but nothing special
Magni-- see Toby
Lukas -- better than Ryan/Toby/Magni, but he's not Dilana. He will win if the boys chicken out and decide to go with a guy.
Storm -- could have completely rearranged the song and come out okay. She could have a very slowed down and stripped version. She may as well have just packed her luggage.
Patrice -- she's so damn likable, but she bores me. I've finally figured it out, she reminds me of Sheryl Crow-- pretty, talented, always a nice performance, and snooze. :sorry:
Zayra -- great song! And hooray for someone doing something different and singing in Spanish. She is obviously using this experience to get noticed for her own music career and she will succeed.
Tonight's bottom three will be Storm, Patrice, and Zayra.

I think Dilana would be the best choice. She just looks like she is in the band, and she is all attitude, which is what you need, and she has the audience. Um, I like how Dilby talked about her lower and upper register. Hah  you mean her lower register, and her lower-upper register, Dilby? Her growling sort of get son my nerves, and her "come on!" was totally cheezy, and then she did it twice.
Storm sounded like she might vomit in the middle of the song. It was disappointing. It lurched and dragged—such a tired song—it was a bad choice, and she didn't redeem it, she just made it's hackneyed melody ugly. I am not sure how they could compare doing Time After Time to that song, though. Huh? And, what's with announcing Cat's In The Cradle as a rock anthem. They are all high.
Ryan didn't really apprehend the big broad parts of In the Air Tonight, in my opinion: he just sounds like he is shouting.
Now, with that string section there, why didn't they let someone sing a Zeppelin song? it could have been cool.

supernova - I didn't like the song. I can't put my finger on it but something sounded off. All of it. Dalani fronted well. The special effects ruined it for me. It reminded me of an mtv video and it is a little early on for that. I noticed the addition of some recorded scratches of her voice were interjected. I didn't care for that either. And did it appear to anyone else that some shots were pre or re-recorded? Maybe I am just sleepys. 9pm...what a wuss.

I didn't think the new song was anything special. It seemed to have a good beat but I thought the band wanted to have a new, different sound and I wasn't hearing that. I also really hated the dancers. After Gilby talked about how he didn't like Jill bumping and grinding him, the band has girls come on stage and dance.

Exactly. I realize it's part of the rock genre, but I couldn't help feeling it would almost be an insult to a female lead singer. It's more suited to those who can't sing or perform and need it as a distraction. Tonight it distracted from Dilana's performance and wasn't needed.

Yes, preach it. What a hypocrite. Dilana looked stupid being surrounded by gyrating go-go girls and I think she was embarrassed. The song sucked and did nothing to accentuate her voice. I'm starting to hope she either doesn't win or, if she does win, tells them no thanks.
As for sending Zayra home, once again I scratch my head at their decision-making. They repeat constantly that they want the contestants to shake it up, show something new, etc. Zayra sings an original song -- in Spanish -- and then takes another big risk by singing an unknown song, and goes home. Patrice trots out yet another Hole song (at least it wasn't Nirvana) and Magni does one that Lukas already nailed the week before and they stay. The time to have sent Zayra was when she was rude and made bad song decisions.
This band doesn't have a clue what they want and I think the loss of brain cells is hampering them. Never thought I'd say this, but I think Navarro should make the decision.

I If they're trying to be a current, cool, rock band
Tommy Lee is permanently stuck in the 80's.

OH! I forgot to add - I agree that Storm needs to cut the theatrics. Her "WHAT?!?!" paired with the wide-eyed look of fake shock week after week is really starting to piss me off. Plus, she does it for everybody, even if they did suck & deserve to be in the bottom 3.

MTV News (www.mtv.com) has issued the following report from Chris Harris:
The members of Orange County, California, punk trio SUPERNOVA filed for a preliminary injunction Friday (August 11th) in San Diego's U.S. District Court against CBS Broadcasting, Mark Burnett Productions and Tommy Lee, Jason Newsted and Gilby Clarke - the three future members of the band searching for a lead singer on the show Rock Star: SUPERNOVA - which seeks to halt the act from performing or recording under the name "Supernova" if they fail to change or add any words to the moniker.
The filing follows a suit the original Supernova - bassist Art Mitchell, drummer Dave Collins and guitarist Jodey Lawrence - filed against the show's producers in late June, which alleged trademark infringement. That suit seeks a jury trial, as well as the destruction of all "labels, signs, prints, packages, wrappers, containers, advertisements, electronic media and other materials bearing the Supernova mark."
The original Supernova, who first formed in 1989 and have released four studio albums, claim that the suit's defendants intend to illegally use the Supernova name (which they say is taken) and trademark it. The group contacted the show's producers upon learning of the proposed name for the reality-television series, and the two sides have been in negotiations since before the June lawsuit's filing. With those negotiations at a standstill, the band decided to take additional legal action to protect its moniker.
"Our client has taken legal action in order to preserve its rights to the name the band has worked so long and hard to establish," said Supernova's attorney, John Mizhir Jr. "We tried to settle the matter quickly and fairly, but after lengthy negotiations with CBS, Mark Burnett Productions and others, they left us with no options but to seek the preliminary injunction."
The lawsuit claims that Rock Star producers willingly ignored the fact that the Supernova name was and still is in use, and therefore unavailable. The suit also alleges that "individuals within defendants' own organizations informed defendants of plaintiff's rights in the Supernova mark" and that illegal use of the Supernova name will cut into the original Supernova's future income by interfering "with plaintiff's business relationships" or causing them to lose merchandising deals and offers to perform.
A hearing on the matter should be scheduled within the next 28 days; Rock Star: Supernova is scheduled to air through September 27th. If a judge rules in the band's favor, the producers may have to come up with a different name for the show's in-the-making rock outfit.
Calls to CBS for comment had not been returned at press time.

seems kinda 'perfect timing' to me too...But I dont really care that much since Gilby has stated that after the album's release in November there will not be any more activity for Supernova (ie-No tour, no followup allbum) due to the members outside commitments.

Seriously? What the hell is the point of all this then? "YAY! You win! Now sing on the record, play one show with us NYE & buh-bye!" That blows. I almost wish Dilana doesn't win now, she's had plenty of exposure & people seem to love her, she may be better off solo.

interview posted on metalsludge.tv a few weeks back, Gilby said he wasnt really interested at first til CBS/Mark Burnett Productions showed him the $$$. He said while he is very good friends with Jason & Tommy, He has prior commitments in Europe and very much doubts that Supernova would continue past the album (Which is nearly completed-Minus the vocals).
One thing I always liked about Gilby, at least he is honest in saying that when the $$$ talked the BS walked.

She definitely would. I'd like to go to her solo tour, with "Time After Time", "Zombie", "Ring of Fire", "Landslide", "Cats in the Cradle".

I have Dave's book and I haven't read it yet - just flipped thru the pics.
In Zayra''s good-bye speech - she mentioned that nothing like this (meaning the show, I presume) has ever been done before. Uh, hello? INXS? A year ago? Perhaps she meant nothing like this had ever happened to HER before. I dunno, but the way she said it made me think the former, and she's a dumbass.

Looks like it's Patrice's turn to leave even though I actually enjoyed her performance tonight. Ryan's original was surprisingly good. Storm could fall into the bottom 3 and I think her stock is starting to slip.
Last season at this stage of the show I started believing that JD would win the whole thing even though he wasn't my favorite. I hope Dilana wins but I'm starting to get the sick feeling that it will be Lucas Munster. My favorites never win  In any case, I hope Dilana does a Divinyls tune before the season ends. That would rock!

I'm surprised that other than the song selection process, they didn't show anything else last nite from the reality show online. Now, I love Dilana, and I think she should win, but she f*cked up royally, imo. They had a press junket at the mansion and one woman in particular was digging for dirt, trying to get each of them to say something negative about the others. Everyone but Dilana was smart enough to realize that they were representing the band, talking to the press, and withheld from saying anything negative or ratting anyone out. Dilana said that she didn't think Toby was there for the right reasons. I think she dissed Lukas as well. Jason was walking around eavesdropping on everyone.
Did y'all notice how Dilana worked her name into her song last night?
I love Patrice, but she's not right for this band. Nor was the song she chose to do last night. She's got more rocking stuff in her catalog, perhaps she wanted to do something new since she's got a solo album coming out soon. ?
I really loved Ryan's song and his performance.
I think the final 3 will be Ryan, Dilana and Lukas. Storm and Toby are not right for this band either. Toby's really starting to bug me, and I hated his arrangement of Layla. Bleech.
PLEASE! No more Nirvana!
