RickyPT....where are you?????
I was on a plane and just watched both shows on Tivo.
I'm very disappointed in the choice. If they weren't going to go with Dilana, then I would have preferred Toby. I think he wanted it the most and would have gotten way more hot babes backstage for the guys. Lukas didn't have that much of a reaction when he was chosen. I remember JD fell to the ground and cried.
And, sorry, making your decision based on the person who got the most votes just shows that these guys aren't really out to do anything that rake in some cash next year. I wish they had said something like "you're both perfect, but Lukas really nailed the Supernova song a couple of weeks ago, he gets the edge".
Dilana's Roxanne was incredible this week. Another memorable performance from the most talented person of that show. I might go to the Supernova concert to see her with the house band and then leave. Although she didn't seem very excited about doing that gig. She was extremely disappointed.
Anyway, great show! Whatever will we do until next July?

Lukas lands Rock Star gig
By BRUCE WESTBROOK
Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle
Houston's Dilana Robichaux rocked to the end of Rock Star: Supernova Wednesday night, but finished second to Canada's Lukas Rossi. After 12 weeks of rafter-rattling performances on CBS, the intense, flamboyant Rossi will front newly formed rock band Supernova.
Its guitarist, Gilby Clarke, promised Dilana to help write and produce her own CD, and show host Dave Navarro pledged to play on it "if you'll have me." Dilana then replied, "This is a promise: that I will bring out a CD with Gilby and Dave's help, and it's gonna kick some serious ass." ADVERTISEMENT
Finishing third was Australian Toby Rand, with Iceland's Magni Asgeirsson fourth.
"You're our boy," Supernova drummer Tommy Lee said in naming Rossi lead singer. Rossie is the second Canadian to win Rock Star's talent search -- in its second season. Canadian J.D. Fortune became lead singer of INXS after 2005 's debut edition.
Dilana, 34, is South African by birth and has sung since her teens, including six years in Holland. She moved to Houston four and a half years ago and struggled to establish herself while performing at clubs and at Prime Time Steak House, where fans have held Rock Star watch parties.
After sending in a tape and auditioning in Austin and L.A., Dilana became one of 15 singers chosen from 20,000 applicants for this year's Rock Star, produced by reality-TV magnate Mark Burnett of Survivor.
Rising to the top 10 in ratings for the 18-49 age demographic, Rock Star inspired heated debate among fans as to which singer would best serve a vaguely defined band.
Just being on the show was "a dream come true,'' Dilana told the Chronicle, since it was her biggest exposure ever. She also saw Rock Star as her last chance to hit the big time and actively lobbied with the band to hire her, even apart from impressing them on stage.
Based on band comments, viewer votes and her own powerhouse performances, Dilana was Rock Star's presumed frontrunner for weeks. Her fierce, frenetic Lithium on its July 5 premiere set the series' early tone of hard-charging rock intensity. Wannabes and posers were quickly banished, while others survived by playing into her vehement vibe.
Yet Dilana also showed a wide range of rock chops. She gave Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire an eerie Middle Eastern flair, fiercely attacked the cranberries' Zombie and galvanized Harry Chapin's mild Cat's in the Cradle with raspy ferocity.
Her voice often shifted between rough, Joplinesque wails and dreamy, Stevie Nicks-style fervency, while showing little range in between. But her flamboyant showmanship and assured stage presence were consistently impressive.
In recent weeks Dilana's stock had dropped through the kind of reality-show "drama'' more suited to shows like Survivor than a talent contest. Her criticism of colleagues and subsequent emotionalism stalled her impetus, and only this week did she seem fully recovered, with superb performances on both nights' shows. No matter what, she finished strongly.
As winner of Rock Star: Supernova, Rossi will record an album with the band, due Nov. 21 on the Epic label. He then will lead Supernova starting with its debut show New Year's Eve in Las Vegas, followed by a 27-date tour in January and February.
The tour's opening act will be Rock Star's formidable House Band fronted by singers who didn't get the gig, including Storm Large and Magni.
Many fans have theorized that singers who weren't hired may be better off, given their enormous exposure on the show -- which airs in eight countries --and the questionable clout of Supernova.
The band's core members have been in prominent hard-rock groups: drummer Lee in Motley Crue, bassist Newsted in Metallica and guitarist Clarke in Guns 'N Roses. But as middle-aged headbangers with no repertoire apart from thin songs trotted out on Rock Star, Supernova isn't the plum prize of last year's Rock Star: INXS.
Dilana has indicated she wants to return to Houston after three months with Rock Star in Los Angeles. She has a boyfriend here and considers Houston her home.
"But my true home is the stage,'' she told the Chronicle. "That's where everything comes out."

Lukas Rossi Wins Rock Star: Supernova
THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 14, 2006 10:55AM EST
By Cynthia Wang
Lukas Rossi, a 29-year-old punk rocker from Toronto, won the role of lead singer for the band Supernova on the CBS reality show Rock Star: Supernova on Wednesday.
After closely beating out rival Dilana Robichaux, a transplanted South African now living in Houston, Rossi told PEOPLE, "At the end of the day, it's about what the band needs and wants, and I would happily step aside if it was for the betterment of Supernova.
"But," he continued, "they chose me, and it was a good choice, man, because I'm going to give it my all and I'm sure the boys in the band are going to do the same thing. We just want to write a bunch of great records and tour for the fans."
Rossi follows in the footsteps of fellow Canadian J.D. Fortune, who won last year's show and now sings with Australia's INXS. Besides Robichaux, the other finalists this season were Magni Asgeirsson, from Iceland, and Toby Rand, from Australia.
But it was Rossi who impressed Supernova drummer Tommy Lee and bandmates Gilby Clarke and Jason Newsted with his rendition of the Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony." After Lee announced his victory, Rossie joined the band onstage for two Supernova songs, including "Be Yourself."
Rossi told PEOPLE that the initial performance brought "an absolute feeling of relief. Going through this 13-week audition process has been riveting, to say the least, but I'm here standing now and I guess I was the cat they wanted."
Comparing himself to others in his new band, Rossi said, "Tommy is just like myself. You know, we're just human and nothing has changed him through the success that he's had. He's still humble and a loveable guy and he's like a big brother to me."
Lee, in fact, has offered Rossi the use of his home when the drummer heads off soon to tour with Mötley Crüe. Will he accept the invitation? "I don't know about that!" Rossi said. "No, I'll definitely respect his house … for the first two hours. Ha! I love you, T!"
Rossi plans to do a bit of traveling himself as well: "I am going back to Canada soon. I just have a lot of things that I have to do here first."
Also on his calendar: rushing into the recording studio with Supernova to complete the band's debut album, due from Epic Records on Nov. 21. And on Dec. 31, the band will have its first live performance in Las Vegas, kicking off a five-week North American tour.

I was really disappointed that Lukas won and not Dilana, but I believe she's much better off not winning. The band is undoubtedly going to record one CD, do one 25ish city tour and be done. I agree that Supernova (or whatever they're going to be called) is a joke, just a reason to pull in some cash.
The only reason I would go see the show (which I'm not going to do) is to see the House Band with it's non-winners performing and to see Dave Navarro.

I'm clearly in the minority here, but I love Lukas and was happy to see him win. Sure the band is a joke, but I hope it'll be a springboard for greater things. I can't stand Dilana, and I'm super happy I won't have to see her on my tv every week.
The reason there wasn't much of a reaction when they told Lukas he won was because they had to reshoot the reveal. Apparently when they said Dilana's name she thought she'd won and got really excited...oops.

I'm disappointed too. I though I wanted her to win, I didn't think they'd ultimately choose Dilana simply because she is a woman. But I didn't think they'd pick Lukas either. I suppose he is more interesting than Toby because of his make-up, look, and performance style--certainly edgier, but he seems immature and arrogant. And annoying. I dunno. I guess the band wanted edgier and weirder as opposed to Toby's sexy, nice-guy, more conventional style. So, whatever. If Dilana won, I might have had to go see the show--which would mean having to listen to the crap that is Supernova's original songs. Altough I might have to do this too:
I might go to the Supernova concert to see her with the house band and then leave.

I have to admit though, it was kinda fun watching it come down to Dilana and Lukas. Then Lukas winning and beating Dilana, after all the fighting over songs those two did and all the terrible things she said about him, that he's irritating as hell and that she just wants to ring his neck. Sweet :D
Dilana is much better off as a solo artist anyway.
Lukas is all over Canadian television today. He may seem alittle weird, but we're proud of our little Eddie Munster.

Two new tracks from the supergroup who's lineup was completed this week with the addition of singer Lukas Rossi (edit: The post I made earlier on the spoiler of who would win was accurate) on this summer's edition of reality show Rock Star: Supernova have been posted online at the group's MySpace page.
Check out the tracks 'It's All Love' and 'Be Yourself & 5 Other Cliches'
The band is rounded out by Tommy Lee (drums - MÖTLEY CRÜE), Jason Newsted (bass - VOIVOD, ex-METALLICA) and Gilby Clarke (ex-GUNS N' ROSES).
According to a Tuesday (September 12th) ruling by San Diego Judge John Houston, the producers of CBS' Rock Star are going to have to come up with an alternate name for the group. The original Supernova - an Orange County, California, punk trio - had filed for a preliminary injunction in San Diego's U.S. District Court against CBS Broadcasting.
The Rock Star band will launch an American tour December 31st in Las Vegas, with dates scheduled through February 27th in Long Beach, California. THE PANIC CHANNEL, the band featuring Rock Star: Supernova co-host and former JANE'S ADDICTION guitarist Dave Navarro, has been tapped to open on all the trek's dates.

ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA Bassist JASON NEWSTED Suffers Shoulder Injury In Accident
As they gear up for the November 21st release of their highly anticipated Epic debut and the New Year's Eve launch of their much-buzzed-about national tour, ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA have suffered a major setback with the loss of all-star bassist JASON NEWSTED.
The former METALLICA member is scheduled for immediate surgery to repair a torn anterior labrum in his left shoulder and a rotator cuff and bicep tear in the right. Newsted suffered the injuries while trying to catch a 90-lb bass head that had fallen from atop his amp. The surgery will be followed by a lengthy rehab assignment that could leave him sidelined for up to nine months.
"I'm freaking out," says Newsted. "My heart was set on finally getting on the road with these guys, but my main focus now is to build myself back to 100%. The stage is set for the band, I wish them the best of luck."
The band - rounded out by vocalist Lukas Rossi, drummer TOMMY LEE and guitarist GILBY CLARKE - is currently searching for a suitable replacement to handle touring duties while Newsted recovers.
"When we started this project, I was handed a list of names--guys who could potentially anchor our rhythm section," says Lee. "I responded by crumpling up the paper and asking, 'Where's Newsted?' Jason was always the right guy for this band and we'll miss having him with us as we kick off our album and tour, but we know he'll be back as soon as he can pick up and play. As for who will handle bass duties until then, we've got a few monster guys in mind, any one of which can hit the ground running. Stay tuned."

SAN FRANCISCO - ‘Rock Star’ contestant returns for one-night show
If the music industry was populated primarily by statuesque, live-wire, foul-mouthed female rock sirens, with roaring vocals and a stage presence intense enough to leave its impression on your retinas long after you’ve looked away, then Storm Large would be any other musician.
As it is, though, the six-foot tall breakout star from CBS’ reality-music competition, “Rockstar: Supernova,” is sort of an anomaly.
Originally from the East Coast, Large (Storm Large is her real name) landed in San Francisco to begin her music career.
“I have really sweet memories,” she said. “[San Francisco] was where I began playing in bands and performing live so it feels like my alma mater. I come back and it’s like visiting the halls of where I was educated.”
If that’s the case, then she has certainly put her study time to good use. With an already-powerful career as an independent musician, national TV exposure and a highly anticipated single featuring “Supernova” host Dave Navarro due out this week, the momentum she has generated promises to make her among the most successful of her graduating class.
And it’s no wonder — Large’s live show is a mix of white-hot sexual energy, soaring musical commitment and a vocal performance so ferocious as to conjure comparisons to the great give-everything vocalists in rock history. Although, if you believe her side of the story, she’s something different altogether.
“I’m a blue-collar, straight-up, working musician,” she said. “No matter what kind of fancy television show, I’m a blue-collar, punk-rock musician.”
Despite the humble attitude, Large maintains the kind of rabid fan base that many major-label acts aspire to, and rarely achieve. And yet, to hear her talk about it, it seems as though major-label success isn’t even a part of the plan.
“It’s not very commercially viable to speak your mind and be very opinionated, and be 37, and yet be sexual, but I think it’s changing,” she said. “People are like, ‘I want to see a real woman, and I want to hear what she has to say.’ I guarantee there is no shortage of women like me, but you won’t hear them on the radio and you won’t see them on VH1.”

Originally from the East Coast, Large (Storm Large is her real name) landed in San Francisco to begin her music career.
isn't her full name Susan Storm Large? I always think about the Fantastic Four.

Thanks to this post I was able to see Dilana live last night. :wavey:
She is really an amazing performer. The lyrics to her original songs--eh. Like Supernova boys told her, they are just a little too cliched. At any rate, she was awesome, and anyone who liked her on the show should catch her live if possible.
She did Mother Mother, Zombie, an a capella version of Time After Time, Super Soul, and some originals that weren't half bad. Hey, and it only cost $12.

Dilana is the opening act for the Rockstar Supernova tour. She is playing an acoustic set with Magni on guitar.
I'm thinking of going to the Oakland show and then leaving after her set.

Is there going to be another Rockstar this summer?? I don't think I can get through a summer without one. :(
In other Rockstar news, Lukas Rossi is playing a club in SF in June. I will not be there.

It was hinted on one of the music (metal) websites I get my news from that there will not be another season - but that info was from early in the year, so who knows
I don't know of many bands looking for a lead singer at this point. Does anybody know of any?

I was just doing a little Googling and it seems that Lukas Rossi has married a porn star by the name of Kendra. I just keep flashing back to the after party when he won and TMZ had that video of his then girlfriend and they wouldn't let her into the club. Sad. :( But hey, congrats to Lukas. I hope all that works out for you. :o

I think I'll be going to the show. mark's working, but I have a few f=friends who watched the show so I'll probably go with them.
And boo to cancelling the show. I wonder if they literallly couldn't find a band who needed a singer. CBS is on my **** list after cancelling The Class anyway, plus I keep hearing rumours about Boob, I mean, Ghost Whisperer and they've delegated New Christine as a midseason replacement.
