What is your unpopular Stevie opinon? I have several:

-I loved her SYW button down sweater.
-The Reeboks don't bother me at all.
-Her Tango in the Night and Behind the Mask songs are some of my favorites.
-I prefer the present day Rhiannon to the old Rhiannon versions from the '70s.

What are your shameful Stevie opinions?

Enchanted, After The Glitter Fades and That's Alright rank in my top 5 Stevie songs of all time! And I wear that with pride!!! :woohoo:

Also...the button down sweater from SYW didn't bother me either.

I would like to answer but I'm not sure where you're headed with this. "Unpopular" with who? This board?

I like OSOTM and Street Angel. Maybe not in their entirety, but like every album, they have their high points.

I like the Reeboks too. They're cute!

What are your shameful Stevie opinions?

HMMMmmm - UH-oh! Well - at the risk of being slammed - and I'm just being completely honest -

1.) I think she was a little silly for putting "That Made Me Stronger" on "Trouble in Shangri-la."

2.) I think she sometimes misperceives how hard she works, compared to the "average person." But I feel she's VERY clear on how rough most people's lives are.

3.) I think things sometimes seem much bigger to her than they really are.

4.) I don't think she would ever, ever, ever want to get back together with
Lindsey. Not in a million years.

5.) I think she's still in love with Mick, always has been, and always will be.

6.) I think she didn't actually like Prince all that much.

7.) Not like I think she's Einstein or something, but I think that in interviews she often hides how intelligent and practical she is, although I think she's been a little better about that lately.

8.) I think she's currently doing an unbelievably intense media blitz in Australia with the sole purpose of subtley re-defining her image, headed up by Liz Rosenberg, who by the way was or is Madonna's publicist as well.
She's a total "Top Gun," doesn't come cheap, and I think there's HUGE amounts of effort and thought that are going into this behind-the-scenes.

9.) I think that, although she may still feel somewhat sad, she's having an absolute blast in Australia and absolutely loves it there. And so, along those lines -

10.) I think she's VERY seriously considering moving to Australia. Not necessarily as a primary residence - I guess she considers Phoenix to be home - but I betcha she's been looking at some real estate ads.

11.) I think she still smokes, but is trying not to and doesn't want others to follow her example.

12.) I think that when she's not touring or doing business-related things, when she's at home watching tv or reading or something, she TOTALLY forgets she's a "big rock star" and just kinda chills, no mysticism, no "etherealness," no chiffon, no nuthin' - just this nice lady watching star trek or reading a book or whatever.

13.) Believe it or not, I think maybe she knows how to use a vacuum cleaner and boil water...

14.) Not necessarily an "unpopular" one but - I think she knows how to ski and enjoys it, or at least used to.

15.) I think sometimes she'd much rather be riding a horse or hanging out on a boat than singing "Stand Back" for the ten billionth time in concert. And I think she's so sick of performing "Gold Dust Woman" that she's about to spit.

16.) I think when photographers aren't around, her house is a mess, always has been, always will be.

17.) I think she isn't as careful as she should be about "borrowing" certain things from her influences ( Oscar Wilde, the guitarist of The Police/Edge of Seventeen riff, etc. ) She doesn't know where the line is and she's VERY lucky that she hasn't been sued, and if she had been it would have made her a BETTER songwriter and a BETTER person.

18.) I think she lies through her teeth about what Edge of Seventeen is actually about, and will never, never, never admit what it's really about. And she thinks it isn't obvious to most people over the age of 12. ( Granted it was first written about John Lennon and her uncle and I know that meant a lot to her, but have you SEEN the HBO Special? Please. )

Welp - you asked!

Excuse me, I'm going to go hide now. :o

Do I dare?

1. I think her songwriting was somewhat interesting until the Bella Donna album, and some of the Wild Heart maybe...
After that it became just a bunch of babbling full of Welllllll s....
Partial phrases glued together by Welllllllllllllllllll s isn't poetry. It's stilted use of the beautiful English language, and severely lacks the conveying of fluent thought.

2. Stevie is the quintessential navelgazer.

3. Oh and superficially: she should wear pants all the time instead of skirts which make her look frumpy and shortwaisted and, well, dwarfish.

Alrighty, I will quit while I still have a head to go hide!

At one time Stevie was a skier..she grew up in California after all. I recall seeing picture of a young Stevie Nicks on skis at a resort. Could have been Aspen during the BN period. Considering her age and weight issues I doubt if she skis anymore...could be wrong. Anybody know?

2)I love Docklands, The Nightmare, and Desert Angel

Here is my unpopular opinion...probably very unpopular, and perhaps more fact than opinion. To wit: Stevie Nicks was a cocaine and sex junkie. Note I said "was". I talking about the 1976 through 1987 time period. I think after Betty Ford Stevie is a totally changed person.

We already know the first part is true and Stevie has talked about the wild parties and it also was written about in the tabloids back in the 80's. I'm old enough to have read this first hand. Of course not everything in the tabloids is true (or even most of it). Somebody at a another forum, may have been this one, once described some "encounter" Stevie had on top a speaker on stage behind the curtains. OK I guess you can excuse it all away and say she was a big time rock star and all that goes with it.

Someone tell me I'm crazy and it's just not true. I sure would like to believe you.

Sex junkie? Surely you're not serious. Then I guess that makes all those wild, rock and roll guys who did the same thing sex junkies too, hell, I guess that makes a lot of my friends sex junkies . C'mon dude, I think that's going off the deep-end a bit don't you think? Sure, Stevie got around, but I'm thinking it was no more than anyone else in her position.

My unpopular (in the sense of not widespread, right?) opinion about Stevie is that those old, fun performances weren't fueled by drugs but by a daring, expansive personality that enjoyed the sensation of being coddled & ogled.

My other unpopular opinion is that Stevie isn't intelligent & isn't a good poet -- actually isn't a poet at all. (But she's a nice, nice lady who makes you want to hug her to your bosom.)

I love this thread where you can state your unpopular opinion!!:wavey: :]  :]

My other unpopular opinion is that Stevie isn't intelligent & isn't a good poet -- :wavey: :]  :]

I think maybe I'd say that she's "Emotionally Intelligent" ( in the sense that she's able to understand certain feelings and write great songs about them that people can relate to. ) Many psychologists these days consider "Emotional Intelligence" to be a very real, measurable thing. But that leads me to another Unpopular Opinion, and I hope this isn't something she would consider private, but Mr. Nicks actually hinted at this in several interviews and it's my opinion that Stevie has said it "in between her lines," as well:

Stevie has a learning disorder.

Not sure what it is, but I think it's probably related to how she processes language or speech. It affects how she thinks and how she perceives the world. A perfect example of that is how she had difficulty saying "Stevie" when she was young and said "Tee-Dee" instead. Granted many children may have similar "problems," but it's been hinted, I believe, that this was bigger than that.

Look, also, at the fact that she's been around music all her life, and it's her primary interest (professionally, etc.), and yet she doesn't know how to read sheet music.

I think maybe this is one thing - of many - that Mr. Nicks was referring to when he once mentioned in an interview how proud he was of her for overcoming "so many obstacles." This wasn't an easy, stellar road with straight-A's all the way for her - she had some challenges to overcome, and did so with a lot of encouragement and determination.

And if you notice though, I'm not saying that she's not a genius - it's perfectly possible to be a genius and have a learning disorder at the same time. Einstein failed geometry in high school, for example. And I also consider her to be very wise, which of course is a separate thing.

My other unpopular opinion is that Stevie isn't intelligent Not intelligent in what way? I can't see her working in NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab, but she certainly doesn't strike me as dumb or even average. Her interviews always leave me feeling that she's a pretty savvy woman (which may be an unpopular opinion in and of itself). Compared to 80% of the famous people out there today, I think she's a genius. :p

For other unpopular opinions, I also liked the SYW black sweater, love "That Made Me Stronger," think TISL is an almost-perfect album, and I don't want her to grow her bangs out.

Kick It is an awesome song.

She's Fleetwood Mac's baby egg/sister because she wants to be.

She's a better singer than she is a songwriter.

She has no self control.

Sometimes I think she just writes whatever comes to mind, not bothering to check whether it makes sense or not. I know she's known for her songwriting, but sometimes *she* doesn't even know what she wrote about. For example, with Gold Dust Woman... first she said it was about groupie-type ladies, then admitted it was about drugs and stuck with that for awhile. But then in that interview (I think) with Courtney Love, she said that it couldn't possibly have been all about drugs, and that she would have to go through her journals to find out what it was about.

???

I just find it odd that she should not know what she wrote and sang with so much passion.

Same goes for confusing tenses (the bright light is lying down / earth and the sea and the sky / is at rest with the ocean...) and the like. Then again, she might have recognized the mistakes, but left them in either a) out of stubbornness or, b) for the sake of making it work musically. Christine's confused tenses in songs (You Make Loving Fun, for example: It would be different and you know it will be), but that doesn't necessarily mean she can't process language.

Believe it or not, she's right, there, at least I think so. It's considered to be correct grammar to consider separate things as one singular entity, and in that case it's incorrect to use "are," and correct to use "is." Don't believe everything they tell you or told you in English class, they don't necessarily know all the sophisticated details of writing. Bottom line is, it SOUNDS better, at least in my opinion.

But - yeah, overall I agree with what you're saying. I think partly it comes from moving around so much during school, partly from not exactly having a "grammarian" looking over her shoulder all the time ( "That's just the POET that I AM" as she said! ) - and also, see my post above.

I think Buckingham would probably say something like, "WELL . . . she's not always . . . very PRECISE in her writing - - - but she's a HELL of an instinctive POET!"

actually, when a string of nouns is connected by "and," the entire thing is considered plural, hence "are" should be used.

I just edited my post, and mentioned the whole 'sounding right' thing.

I don't think it necessarily has anything to do with believing everything I was told in English class. She's talking about more than one thing, therefore it would make sense to switch to the plural form. She doesn't.

Buckingham would say a lot of things. And he has.

HMMM..

#1 Stevie loves to perpetuate her own myths as much as her fans do!

#2 Stevie has a real fear of intimacy and has used her Rock N Roll Lifestyle monologues as an excuse to not deal with that.

#3 Stevie loves to hear herself talk.

#4 A bit of a Drama Queen.

#5 I wanted to throw myself out a window when I heard "When I See You Again"..I was secretly horrified by her vocals on Tango.

#6 Her vocals on Cry Wolf & Docklands make me cringe.

#7 My favorite era is anything Pre Rock A Little.

#8 Her best vocals lately were I Miss You..It's Only Love on TISL.

#9 Illume is here best work with FM in years!

#10 Her long stringy hair is unflattering! Best Hair is 79-83!

#11 She has a major fear of failure!

#12 If I hear her say "we had NO IDEA drugs were dangerous back then"...one more time..I AM GOING TO SCREAM!!! LOL!!!

#13 The Reeboks are just silly and need to go!

#14 Rupert Hine was the love of her life.

#15 Mick was really about the sex.

#16 Is afraid to do another solo project as her sales have dropped with every release. She equates that as failure.

#17 Lindsey loved her more than she ever loved him.

#18 Stevie is really at peace with her father's passing.

#19 I liked BEHIND THE MASK!

#20 I prefer original Silver Springs.

Stevie has a learning disorder.

When I first read this I giggled but now that I think about it you may be on to something. I wonder if she does? Keep in mind having a learning disorder does not mean a person is not intelligent, it's possible they just process information differently. Of course a person with a learning disorder could also be not very intelligent, I'm just saying one doesn't equal the other.

Hmm. I agree with the person that said that Stevie tends to "borrow" a little more from other musicians than she may be aware or let on. Especially Illume. That is a complete and blatant rip off of "New York" by Richard Ashcroft. I mean, IDENTICAL. I had a friend who pointed it out and played it for me and my heart just sank...oh Stevie.:distress:

Also I think she's pretty self indulgent, particularly with the importance of her writing. Didja catch all that "I didn't sleep, but I wrote 4 songs" on the DR doc? She only mentioned it, like 1000 times! I find that more humourous than anything though.

Actually ladies and gents, Ghost_Tracker IS correct in saying that Stevie was right, but has the wrong reason. You have to read these lines differently from how you are reading them. She is saying "the bright light is lying down the earth and the sea and the sky, [the bright light] is at rest with the ocean, and the days go by..." This way of reading it makes much more sense, too, because what sense does it make to say "the earth and the sea and sky are at rest with the ocean." She's talking about the sun setting, the "bright light," which "comes to rest with the ocean."

*Stevie got better looking as she got older.

*The Tango/80s big hair and outlandish outfits made her look hot.

*The Nightmare, Welcome To The Room...Sara, When I See You Again and Two Kinds Of Love are all great songs.

*She's lying when she says she didn't know cocaine was dangerous.

*Rhiannon and especially Gold Dust Woman need to be permanently dropped from her solo sets.

*Stand Back should only be performed with FM.

I agree with all of that! Except for the Tango hair... That was just uncool. Way too fried and frizzed to the extreme, like her Tusk hair. It looked damaged and unhealthy a lot of the time. Everything else, yes. I like Welcome To The Room, and When I See You Again.

I think she had to have known that coke was dangerous. How could she not? Granted it was the 70s, and that **** was all over the place, she still had to have known that it wasn't good for her. That's like smoking and drinking, and then being surprised when you get cancer or liver failure.

*I hate that she gave into Lindsay's comment and wore that fricken black sweater the WHOLE SYW tour
*I don't like her 80's hair
*She has become more beautiful as she's gotten older :woohoo:
*I love Gate and Garden
*Thrown Down is one of the best examples of her writing
*I think when she wakes up in the morning, she looks like another human being, as do some of us
*I too agree that "That Made Me Stronger" didn't fit in on TISL

*no version of "Silver Springs" will EVER exist like that of The "Dance"

I agree with that. So I hope it's dropped if/when FM tours next.

I also hope the appearance of BC in this solo tour was just because of the orchestra explanation she gave. I do love it, but want it dropped from the next FM and/or solo tour so another rarity can be performed.

- I don't like the present day "Rhiannon" on stage.
- RAL will always be my absolute favorite album by her
- I don't like and never have liked "The Other Side of the Mirror"
- Her songs on "Say You Will" sucked. Lindsey should have kept it a solo album. His songs on that record are FAR superior.
- Stevie is MUCH better live when she tours solo, when "you know who" is watching her, green with envy
- "The Second Time" from Behind The Mask is one my favorite songs. I wish she'd do it live

wow great thread idea.
answering totally honestly without having read all the replies
please don't flame me:wavey:

1 - Street Angel is Stevie's best solo album. (see point 11)

2 - SYW is my favorite Mac CD and Stevie's songs are IMO her best work in a long long time though i do think if Lindsey had had more time they would have been even better.

3 - I think Stevie & Lindsey totally still have a thing going on

4 - I prefer current Rhiannon to old school versions

5 - I HATE Leather & Lace & Landslide (unless LS is live)

6 - I think Stevie still smokes pot

7 - Coked out or not I think RAL is Stevie's BEST tour & I don't really like anything Stevie pre Rock a Little.

8 - I really really love Docklands & I don't care that she didn't write it.

9 - ditto per Ghost_Tracker's comment I feel Stevie totally lies about what Edge means and 99% of her other songs

10 - EFO is about S&L not Chris & Lindsey

11 - TISL is not Stevie's work-of-art! & would have been better with the outtakes that didn't make the album and had absolutely NONE of Sheryl's influence

12 - Stevie's confusion & choice of tense in songs PISSES ME OFF. i don't care that it has to sound a certain way.....it's not proper english. And I have an english major so it REALLY annoys me. I hate to diss my beloved Street Angel but a prime example: 'When you pull me through the rainbow/I thought you'd stop' that does NOT make sense i don't care how you look at it. I know given the context you can break it up several ways but that line annoys me badly.

13 - I don't doubt for a SECOND that Stevie doesn't know the meaning to every single one of her songs. I think she knows EXACTLY. word for word.

14 - Her Tango songs KICK ASS! Especially Welcome to the Room...Sara.

15 - WISYA i think is a seriously seriously intense song. That is really depressing as ****.

16 - Speaking of Tango.....I think Stevie got hooked on Klonopin coz Linds left the band. :sorry:

17 - She did cocaine because she liked it

18 - She is way hotter now......and gets more so as she gets older.

19 - any guy Stevie claims to have been seeing {in the past 20 years} is in her imagination. her last 'serious' relationship was during The Dance.............

20 - Stevie is a total drama queen.

8 - I really really love Docklands & I don't care that she didn't write it.

I was thinking about this after reading this thread...I would love to see Stevie do a rock album and I think Street Angel is the closest she's come to it. For a lot of the songs, she drops the gypsy/fairy/trapped in castles stuff and just rocks out. There is still some of the traditional Stevie-ness to it (street angels, Greta's movie star views), but she's singing about real things for the most part. Which (in my opinion) is why some people dislike it.

Pure conjecture on my part, but I think Stevie dislikes it because of the unpleasantness during the making of the album. She's too close to look at it objectively and say, "hey, these are a decent bunch of songs".

So I guess another unpopular opinion of mine (and a few other people too) is that SA is a great album.

*And I agree with StreetAngel86's opinion about Docklands. I don't care whether she has written a song or not. I love Docklands, Some Become Strangers, Talk To Me and Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind for example.

*Oh, and Desert Angel is a beautiful song too.

wow. good point! I never really thought about that. But I think that's precisely why i LIKE it. When I was a naive fan just getting her albums i always wondered why people said her music was rock and roll.........coz i thought it was anything but rock. But SA is the only CD i put on when i'm in a bad mood or want to hype myself up coz most of it sounds kick ass LOUD. I shake the walls with how loud i have my stereo.

You can't really rock out to Jane and Rose Garden but 2 songs can be overlooked. I HATE Unconditional Love though. Only song on the CD i can't stand. i really love Inspiration & God's Garden too and they seem to fit into that category with the other 2 songs. But otherwise, I totally agree, very much a rock album. Moreso than RAL......which is probably my 2nd fave album but i detest I Sing For the Things & HAEWAFY..........Love Is Like a River & Mirror Mirror would have been wicked **** on that CD!

i think that is exactly why she doesn't like it. and consequently i think the ONLY reason 'fans' don't like is because of that and they have been too heavily influenced by Stevie's opinion of her own work. Like i know a LOT of ppl who say TISL is her best album...so does Stevie. But IS it? Some of the original SA versions are better than those on the album ditto with TISL so i can't imagine what problems Stevie had with them...........especially Jane WOOHOO!!

I actually gave Stevie a letter yesterday and basically it was all about how Street Angel is the best song ever and it's her best album  and that I hoped she didn't still feel ****ty about it...coz that depresses me {i didn't write that lol} but I don't like to think that she thinks she has something out in her music catalogue that she thinks everyone thinks is **** just coz it didn't sell very well and she didn't like where she was at when it was released. Then i said she needs to sing SA live and i can officially die

another reason i think people might not like the album is because there seems to be a lot more songs on it that she didn't write. What the hell does that really matter.....she CHOSE them

and RTTG was an SA song. I'm glad it wasn't on the album tho coz i LOVE the SYW version...PROBABLY coz it WAS an SA song. but wotever ;)

That's another thing that annoys me about Stevie. She seems to judge her stuff based on sales. I honestly don't think Stevie could've released anything in 94 that would've sold millions. 1) I love watching the coked out Stevie - would've loved to have hung around with her then, I think she was alot of fun back then

2) I love the wavy, curly hair - HATE this straight stuff, I think it makes her look older

3) I think she and Mick are seen so much together as of late because they still have a thing for each other and would love to "be together" now but can't because he's married - he was always back stage with her during SYW after the shows - he will always be the love of her life

4) I think she still loves Lindsey but isn't in love with him, I think that ended when he screwed up during The Dance

5) I don't like the shoulder pads/bustier outfits

6) I too think she doesn't understand what "hard work" is compared to the average person, we don't have personal assistants to do everything for us, etc.

7) I think TISL would've been better without Sheryl's influence, some of the songs I just don't like AT ALL, don't think it was her best work yet, in fact I wish she'd write more like BellaDonna and WH, RAL, etc.; although loved SYW

8) She's had some kind of minor work done face-wise, she looks just too incredible!

9) When she asked at one of the SYW concerts for the people to quit smoking at the front because the smoke was bothering her, it was because she wanted a smoke so bad herself

10) Karen has too much power over Stevie and Stevie needs to think and act for herself - tell Karen to take a hike most of the time

11) still smokes a little weed now and then

12) she really knows what her songs are about but won't tell, EVER - they're a secret

13) she really doesn't want to have a serious relationship with a man finally, no matter what she says because she likes her freedom

this is an awesome thread!

Real fur is the only kind of fur that she would ever be caught wearing.

The alternative-orifice (non-nostril) myth is not entirely untrue.

She is embarrassed for some of woman who try and cop her style when attending her concerts. She cringes at their home-colored, badly-cut, out-of-style hair, cheap outfits and capes with spider web adornments bought online, and crappy Payless boots with 2 inch heels. These people are not fabulous, but they fill the seats (and boy, the FILL them).

Her assistant scares the hell out of me.

Ok, some of my unpopular Stevie "things" Please remember that I am older than most of you and I remember when she truely started out, with that in mind...
- I don't buy the "I was a sweet girl and had never drank before FM", -I do buy that Christine taught her how to drink- English style- snifters of brandy and some lovely wines...
-Oh yeah...the coke deal...C'mon, even if everyone was doing it-somewhere in your mind you HAD to know it would come to no good end-
Same as cigarette's-same as the "life in the fast lane, sex and parties", same as the kloponin, same as the clothes and furniture that you shop for compulsively.....etc. etc.
-Stevie, my sweet you have an addictive personality-and you do EVERYTHING in your life to an extreme.. (I know, cuz I do too) :)
-Another unpopular opinion that I have is not that she didn't have children because of her love of music and her "art and craft" (the whole, I wouldn't have given myself totally to a child or children...please )
I think it is more along the lines of when she was in her 30's going through so much drama, and turmoil, ( I give the woman credit-she did have some very difficult times emotionally to struggle through), she realized during those phases of her life---that , you know what ?
I am really all about me, (The Stevie Nicks/Rock and Roll Priestess ,the charachter she plays) and I want to be remembered for that. (I am not saying this in a nasty or disparaging way-I just think this is how she felt) I do not want to be remembered for being Stephanie Buckingham or Fleetwood, Anderson, or Iovine, or Walsh or...whatever, __________fill in the blank.

I don't have the time/patience/desire to have children-simple as that, but I feel she needs to make it seem more of a selflless act as opposed to a selfish one. She makes it sound like it has been such a sacrifice..that bugs me.

-There are some songs that make me think"-What the hell was she thinking when she made this?" and others that I can listen to all day long.
Lastly, let me say that besides watching the Dance version of Silver Springs, where the emotions are just flying right out of her eyes and body movement- The love and anger are so apparent, I am always in awe of that performance.
- I feel her most emotional and heart felt song is "When I see You Again" I know 8 out of 10 people hate this song!
Everyone needs to listen to that song more closely...It is hauntingly sad ....(her voice is shot at this pont too, but that doesn't matter-either does the way too, too many repeats of "whatsamatter baby"matter - What matters is that she is so vunerable, afraid and desperate, so frightened and so raw...
Remember, this song was written while she was at Betty Ford, thinking that when she came out maybe she would be a different person, lose her creative side, not be able to cope without being high, that Lindsey wouldn't be her best friend anymore~~that a part of her was going to disappear...what would her whole world be like?
She opens up on that song more than anyother and it bothers me that people dismiss it because she is so hoarse, and pleading.., you are missing the point
-I love that she sings "When I see you again" and Lindsey's response at the end of the song is "If I see you again" Plus his acoustic guitar at the end is also hauntingly faint...
( I also read somewhere that she tricked him into the vocals on that song, not realizing he was the only one singing back to her, but when it was finished the band agreed that is how it should stay-
Just the two of them---- Again and again, over and over...

Enough of my rambling-I hope someone here sees the same Stevie Nicks that I think, she wants us all to see

Always the curious/opinionated~~

My other unpopular opinion is that Stevie isn't intelligent

Based on whose standards?

Oh, and to the poster who said that they think Stevie has a learning disorder: Stevie didn't have enough of one not to get into college and tough it out a few semesters, so I'd say if she does in fact have a learning disorder it is negligible. And not being able to read music after all this time isn't really a good example, I mean, how do we know that she doesn't at least have an elementary knowledge anyway? She hasn't ever really gone into detail. I think maybe when she says she doesn't know how to read music it's twofold: 1.) she's no expert so she generalizes and 2.) she does this as a way of boosting herself up a bit, like, look, I wrote all these wonderful songs and I don't even know how to read music, aren't I awesome?" And yes, I'd say she is.

Even if she DOESN'T know how to read ANY music, that still doesn't mean she has a learning disorder. Learning music, like learning any code, language, or notation system takes time, interest and much hours of study. Maybe Stevie just didn't have a burning desire to master reading music, or didn't have the need . She's done alright thus far without it.

because it was her song to him.
i'll say Lindsey was a prick
but i don't think Stevie was exactly faultless either.

My thoughts EXACTLY!! The pic of her and Linds sitting on the floor talking says it all! I also think there's something to why she quit singing Silver Springs on SYW, I believe the last time was at the Atlanta show, right after baby #3 was born - Stella. Her hoarseness and pleading is what makes the song perfect I think. It makes the song more 'real'. It sounds like she's dying inside as she sings it. Why would you (in the general sense) want her to be singing in a 'pretty' voice?

Okay, here goes:

- I loved OSOTM and Street Angel. I'm not sure which I love most. I think both are similar in that they each have a couple of drop-dead incredible songs, while they also have several which are on the whole forgettable.
- Mirage sucked.
- Yes, the Tango hair was awesome.
- No, the RAL hair was not. ;) Just kidding, it was fairly cool.
- The present day Rhiannon is the best.
- I despise Leather and Lace. Just a teency bit less than I despise Mirage.
- Next to Stevie Sheryl Crow sounds shrill and dreadful. I don't like to hear Fall From Grace destroyed by that duet.
- I don't believe anybody could possibly look so good at that age without having surgery.
- Then agian, maybe I'm wrong. I'm still considering that one.
- That biting-the-bottom-lip thing she did annoys the HELL out of me. Seriously, you have no idea.
- Her voice in the late 70s irritates me enormously.
- I therefore dislike most of the studio versions of the songs on Rumours.

 I've never heard this one before!

oops......maybe that wasn't public information :o

:D

My thoughts EXACTLY!! The pic of her and Linds sitting on the floor talking says it all! I also think there's something to why she quit singing Silver Springs on SYW, I believe the last time was at the Atlanta show, right after baby #3 was born - Stella. Some say it's because it became vocally difficult for her - yeah, right.

I think that is the widely accepted version of events :D
vocal trouble my @ss!

have you heard the stuff about how she changed the lyrics of BC around the time K got pregnant? coincidence

Some think that Stevie & Linds were getting together during The Dance and then wella - Kristin comes up preggers - and I think that Stevie sent him packing, what a jerk - sleeping with another woman at the same time as her and then she becomes preggers - so much for them getting back together! I think that pissed her off tremendously.

man i'd kick his @ss.
but there is a theory that they supposedly only got together
AFTER Kristen was pregnant  that is pretty #$&@ed up
i don't know if i believe that but either way
Stevie sent him home:p

But what's your real opinion of Stevie? lol Seriously, I'm near your age as well and I know the 1970's era Stevie. I agree with most of your comments. Quite the party girl in the old days and destined to go down in flames like Joplin. She has said so herself. We're all sure glad it didn't end that way.

Chris Nicks' resentment of the way he was treated as a child, versus the way his precious and talented sister was treated, played a part in his ability sit back and watch his sister, as an adult, completely fall apart and reach death's door on two seperate occaisions, while he was on her payroll.

I agree. I read somewhere that Stevie in fact has a high IQ. And she did more than a few semesters at Cal State...I think its more like four years and only a semester or so from graduating. Granted she wasn't taking engineering or physics... I believe it was art or design.

"When I See You Again" is a very sad song, indeed; however, there are moments where she doesn't just sing poorly, but she's trying to fold her voice into the Stevie Nicks sound, and it comes out sounding like baby talk. Buckingham coming in at the end was downright heartbreaking....just a tear jerker - but I could have done with less of the "whats-a-matter babeh's"....some of them were embarrasingly bad, only to be redeemed as the song carries on.

-Oh yeah...the coke deal...C'mon, even if everyone was doing it-somewhere in your mind you HAD to know it would come to no good endThe police raided Studio 54 & busted up cocaine parties on what seemed a regular basis back around 1978-1980. Cocaine was widely regarded as a dangerous, illegal drug, even then.
Another unpopular opinion that I have is not that she didn't have children because of her love of music and her "art and craft" (the whole, I wouldn't have given myself totally to a child or children...please )

I've always wondered why Stevie is singled out for praise on that point.
I don't have the time/patience/desire to have children-simple as that, but I feel she needs to make it seem more of a selflless act as opposed to a selfish one. She makes it sound like it has been such a sacrifice..that bugs me.Stevie fans really ram home that sacrifice angle, too. Based on whose standards?I guess standards that I perceive to be widespread. Just like everybody else, I glean intelligence from another person's words & thoughts & the marshalling of mental elements. We do the same thing with George Bush, don't we? We listen to him speechify & we hear his views & both the expression & the content of those views give us a sense of his intelligence. We do this with virtually everyone we hear, know & meet.
And not being able to read music after all this time isn't really a good example, I mean, how do we know that she doesn't at least have an elementary knowledge anyway? Even if she DOESN'T know how to read ANY music, that still doesn't mean she has a learning disorder.Yeah, the inability to read music is a red herring in the argument. It means nothing. Most rock musicians probably don't know how to -- & don't want to -- read staff notation. For the most part, it simply isn't necessary for what they do. I would imagine a good many jazz musicians don't read notation, either, although that might have changed substantially from the old days. Rock & jazz traditionally aren't notational arts: they're improvisatory. Christine & possibly Bob Welch are probably the only two members of the band since the beginning who actually read music.

What is far more germane to the discussion, to me, is that Stevie, having played piano for 35 years or thereabouts, hasn't improved with that particular skill (I base my perception on a comparison of old '70s demos with her at the piano & demos through the decades up to the present). I teach piano, & that's pretty unheard-of to me.

Maybe it was hard to look down and see his happy little clan...but remember she has always stated that as much as she loves Lindsey and always will ....but "We are as compatible as a Boa Constrictor and a Rat" I sincerely think this is true-Their relationship was always about tensions/passions/conflict/arguing/and making up...
The REAL reason for all this speculation...we will never know.
I am of the opinion that perhaps one of two things happened...
One-
This time frame, was when she was starting to get, tired, pissy, not happy about the "corsets", and the way she was looking, while performing. and just all in all blaming Lindsey for__________(fill in the blank)
And she just did not want to sing it with/to him because it didn't feel REAL to her at that stage of the tour- Like it was during the Dance (on fire!) or in the earlier part of the tour....or
Two-
It was really just too draining on her, (having to always "put on the show" like she has always maintained is a requirement when you belong to Fleetwood Mac) She has more power in the band now and says Hey-Mick, I don't want to do the back and forth emotions of that song anymore- I am done for awhile..and I think Lindsey would be OK with that and they would find another song to replace it in the set list. And they did-

And the band played on....
just my thoughts**

I agree, we'll never know. However, I think it's pretty coincidental that she stopped singing it while in Atlanta just after Stella was born and Kristin was hangin' around with the kiddies!

She and Liddy tossed the emotions back & forth on Say Goodbye, and they did that one 'til the end. They claim that the back & forth and emotions on stage are just a "show" - but having been right in front at the stage, I don't think so!!

I agree that towards the end she did get tired and pissy, when I was at Hershey she looked at Liddy with the sadest expression on her face and just stood there and shrugged her shoulders - I've often wondered what that meant.

I was just reading the Lindsey Buckingham entry in Wikipedia(why was I doing that?) and I noticed this. Buckingham never took guitar lessons and does not read music.

We always have to hear who in pop music does not read music, and who studied opera or had some form of classical training.

I agree, I totally think that. Remember on the Sheryl Crow/Stevie live boot thing from some random bar - they did TFFT, and Love Is - and Stevie was talking about how Sheryl came running up the stairs in her house, blah blah, says: Sheryl wrote this song for me" and then Sheryl says "for you or ABOUT you?" But you can hardly hear that part b/c Stevie is still talking over her.
Anyways. Not that I'm saying,

I have another unpopular opinion. I purchased the Red Rocks DVD and I absolutely hate it! I haven't watched it since.

I really only like her recent performances. Like The Dance DVD, Storytellers, Live in Boston, etc. Maybe because that is when I became a fan and that is the woman I fell in love with. Not the woman on the Red Rocks DVD!

I think Stevie's smarter than Dubbya. But that's still not saying much is it? :laugh:Stevie is definitely more intelligent than Dubbya. He's a lesser primate. He's unreal.
I think Stevie plays dumb sometimes, but in reality, and in the words of Judge Judy Sheindlin, I think she's really "one smart cookie." I still don't get your claim of unintelligence, but then again I'm not a prescriptivist when it comes to measuring intellect. I think intelligence comes in all shapes and sizes. Is Picasso any less intelligent than Einstein? Brilliance and intellect are relative, eh?I really have no idea, cliff. I guess in at least one sense they are: "intelligence" is a word like "liberty" & unlike "gravity." The idea of liberty can vary according to context, time, place, era, etc. The slaves of ancient Athens may have felt they had far more liberty than the slaves of Carthage, yet from my vantage point, the Athenians might seem much worse off. Whereas gravity is always 9.8 meters per second per second everywhere on earth (even back in Athens), & always has the same effect on every object on earth (all else being equal). This is my way of saying that "intelligence," like "liberty," is what we say it is; whereas gravity is what it is regardless of what we say it is. So if Sociologists X, Y & Z come along & concoct a concept of "visual intelligence" or of "aural intelligence," bingo! it exists. All they need to do is define it & characterize it. They need to delineate it somehow.

My notion of intelligence is perhaps as shifting as the sands of Egypt & yet as useful to me as the dates of the Saharan palms, from which I can make a really delicious date shake! :blob2: :blob1:

I'll join you on that one. I dislike it not because I don't like RAL-era Stevie (although not my favorite), but because all the close-ups are totally fake. It's not even the same hairstyle for christsake.

2. I don't think she is remotely interested in Lindsey these days and I think she has had at least relationship with a woman in the last 15 years.

In my dreams!! I love you for saying that though
Any speculation on who it might be? Hell maybe Stevie has just had it with men, that would be a nice thought. She hasn't exactly had great luck. If anybody should give women a chance, it shoud be her.

And as much as I would love for it to be true since I am of the female preference myself, I just cannot picture her ever loving a woman in a romantic sense. Fooling around maybe back in the day but having an actual relationship with a woman, I can't see it. I get such a total straight vibe from her although it's funny, a lot of non-hard core fans think she's bi and has relationships with women.

as far as OSOTM goes, I agree that it is really a lot better than some people give it credit for. I totally think of it as the "magic" album.

My favs in order are: BD, TWH, RAL, TISL, OSOTM, SAAnother good example of what one might call an unpopular opinion is that fact that Curtis is so passionate about Street Angel in his love for it. I say good for him! Personally, save for Blue Denim, I'd rather fold laundry, but once again that's just me.

I agree love the song..hate the vocal!

It's my favourite album to play when I'm in a bad mood too.

Funnily enough I don't mind Unconditional Love (though the demo's better) but I hate Rose Garden. Something about it just irks me. And I dislike HAEWAFY on RAL. Stand alone song, it's ok...but it just ruins the flow of the album for me. Hooray! Another person who loves Mirror Mirror! I thought I was the only one!

That's another thing that annoys me about Stevie. She seems to judge her stuff based on sales. I honestly don't think Stevie could've released anything in 94 that would've sold millions. The times were just changing musically. Oh, and I can die too once she sings Street Angel, so long as it's in the same set as Rock A Little (Go Ahead Lily)

My unpopular opinions:
- I don't get the wardrobe, twirls, reebok debates.
- Some of her baby boomer fans got a Dorian Gray relationship with her.
- I don't like I can't Wait and Outside The Rain
- Joan of Arc is one of her masterpieces.
- Tom Petty at this point would be a much more exciting tour mate than Lindsey.
- Her romanticism is cleverly used to cover-up a strong confrontational element in her songwriting.

That's all for now. :D

Chris Nicks' resentment of the way he was treated as a child, versus the way his precious and talented sister was treated, played a part in his ability sit back and watch his sister, as an adult, completely fall apart and reach death's door on two seperate occaisions, while he was on her payroll.

Uhhh, near as I can make out, he was right in there with them in the thick of things, so I'm not sure this is really true. He was a part of it and may not have noticed anything different compared to everyone else, including him.
Plus, franlky, she wouldn't have listened to him.

actually, when a string of nouns is connected by "and," the entire thing is considered plural, hence "are" should be used.

True, that's how they do it at Harvard. But in my opinion most professional writers are willing to consider multiple things, grouped together, as one thing - therefore "is" instead of "are." :blob1:

Ghost_Tracker
03-03-2006, 09:28 PM

Yeah, and apparently, she had been "writing . . . like a maniac" too!

Please.

Go back and look at the actual "Say You Will" album.

1.) Illume has already been mentioned - very important and serious song, but I guess she "borrowed" it from another writer.

2.) Thrown Down. k, I'll give her this one.

3.) Say You Will - i.m.o., this was written with the sole intent of having a single to release to get radio time to promote the entire album. I like it, and it's a catchy, fun song, but let's face it, someone with Stevie's talent could have written this one on the back of a paper bag at lunchtime... And look at the actual lyrics - there's two short verses and one catchy chorus which is repeated over and over; that's the entire song.

4.) Smile at You - this is an old, old song that she wrote way back in the late '70s.

5.) Running Through the Garden - I definitely give her this one, and I consider it brilliant. I think it sorta "refers back" to an earlier 1980s song called "Gate and Garden," too.

6.) Silver Girl - k, I'll give her that, too.

7.) Everybody Finds Out - k, yeah, I'll give'er that. I think it's another brilliant one, actually.

8.) Destiny Rules - k, I'll give her this, too. I like it, at least. The peak of her career? That I'm not so sure of.

9.) Goodbye Baby - she wrote this as "The Tower" back in 1979 or so.

That's six songs that she wrote recently that ended up on the album, at least one of which was well below her ability level. Lets say she had started a year beforehand - although the last real FM album was - what - 1990? That had four of her songs, none of which were hits. Can you name one of them?
Six songs in, say, one year is not "writing like a maniac," and it's not the kind of output you would expect a "prolific" songwriter to have.

And so - not putting her down here but - another "unpopular opinion" that I have is -

Stevie tells "little white lies" sometimes, and has absolutely no qualms about it. But, although she doesn't realize this -

she's not very good at it. It's usually pretty obvious when she's fibbin'. She doesn't quite realize that, though....

Sneaky, ain't she. ;)
But I do feel that "the earth and the sea and the sky are at rest with the ocean" makes sense. It's a "Gaiea" thing - earth and nature and all that, "at one with" the rest of the Universe. Separate things, considered as one.
Clever girl! :)

I think a lot of stuff that Stevie and Company do up on stage is their own idea, but if you look at the credits to "Live in Boston," there was actually a Director. I betcha that was his or her idea. Maybe the stuff she did before "Stand Back," also. ( Although I have my suspicions that what happened there is Brent Tuggle screwed up and didn't come in at the right time, and Stevie was actually pointing at him like, "This is YOOOOUUUuuuu!"
and then covered for him. Did anyone else have that impression? )

Didn't KNOW that! K, so that's 5 new songs on the album, that she wrote in, say, one year, and one of those songs had 2 verses and a simple chorus which was repeated over and over.

I'm LOVING this thread, though! :)

True, that's how they do it at Harvard. But in my opinion most professional writers are willing to consider multiple things, grouped together, as one thing -therefore "is" instead of "are." :blob1:

i don't think you'd be happy with the results of that poll. there are some cases where that's true (my english teacher called it the "macaroni and cheese" rule), but can you really imagine a professional writer (or anyone, really) saying "the earth and the sea and the sky is at rest"?

also, i think it's a really tired stereotype that academics aren't in touch with the "real" world.

I'm still gobsmacked that people have intuitive feelings that Stevie did it with women. I mean..what Planet do you people live on that can so freely believe something so ridiculous? OMG...she is the most horny hetero out there. Stop watching The L Word, guys. My intuitive feeling is that she is into men and only men, and her girlfriends are her spiritual support. If you think every woman with good GF's is a lesbian - than you're have a very interesting imagination, indeed.

To Carrie and BlackWidow and Marissa! You got it gals! More than welcome!

Not to be harsh to all who believe in sappho moments regarding Stevie...but please, with these flights of fancy, already. I know we're are in a Lesbian chic society today, but you can't apply every female rock star and their female cohorts in that way. Sheryl wrote a song for Stevie or visa versa - or it was about her or for her. Stop it! It's so silly! Just because she shares a microphone with Lori or Sharon once in a while don't mean they're getting it on. Not that there is anything wrong with that...as the Seinfeld saying goes...:)

Stevie is so frank in her artistic expression regarding her male counterparts, the ying and yang, the sex, the beauty, the anger involved with her love for Lindsey, Mick, Jimmy Iovine, Rupert - or whomever the male du jour was/is. God bless her. She loves her men like men...and she loves her girlfriends like sisters....friends...compadres. There is evidence of that at every turn.

Anyway - just because Anne Heche went momentarily gay after Lindsey doesn't mean Stevie did too!

Sometimes I think she just writes whatever comes to mind, not bothering to check whether it makes sense or not. I know she's known for her songwriting, but sometimes *she* doesn't even know what she wrote about.

None of this makes any sense. I (a gay man) have my intuitive feelings and you have yours.

What is so ridiculous about Stevie doing it with a woman?? I also find it interesting that some are so freaked out by this that they must make numerous posts to insist it's not true.

My belief that Stevie has had a relationship with a woman has nothing to do with the fact that she has good GF's.

I also never said she was a lesbian. Having a relationship with a woman during your lifetime doesn't make you a lesbian.

Seems like a lot of education is needed, but I have no interest in diverting the purpose of this thread. The question is what are your unpopular Stevie opinions. Mine is that she has had a relationship with a woman.

I don't like Tom Petty. I don't like his general arrogance as a person and I don't like his attitude towards Stevie. He once called her a "pop star" in a derogatory sense, and according to Stevie, he doesn't want to work with her professionally, but he'll be her friend. I really don't think he is all that talented to warrant the level of arrogance he displays. (He's "no Bob Dylan"!!!!)

Another comment he made was that concerning the recording of "Stop Draggin'", Stevie just added vocals to his already-finished track. Those of us who have heard the "Stop Draggin'" masters know that there were a few different Tom Petty vocal tracks recorded. If what Tom says is true, then why would Stevie be singing along to a "Tom" vocal track that wasn't the final "Tom" vocal track?

I just don't like his attitude.

And I get the impression that's really unpopular here on this list!

Here's a couple more unpopular opinions; I love "When I See You Again" and "Welcome To The Room Sara", and I think they are the best tracks on the "Tango" album.

Thanks for letting me vent!

Beautifully put, Carrie!!! I believe that is what I was saying. My thing is... Be proud of who you are - but if people think you're something you're not just because it fulfills something they presumptiously feel is "intuitive"...that's unfair. No one has the right to believe someone is something they are not...no matter what sexual preference or religion, or set of beliefs one holds. Unless - that is - the person doesn't care what people think about them...and that's fine too.

Yes...back to the topic of the thread....

You know the..
"you rock"
"Whatever"
"Now you're talking", etc. Aren't those the worst? It's like, c'mon people, by posting in a forum you are soliciting the attention of hundreds of people. By doing so, it's only the courteous thing to actually have something to say. It's like standing in a large room filled with hundreds of people, & shouting, "People, attention! Please give me your attention! I have something to say" ... & then just saying, "I agree with that person over there. That's all. Bye." Extremely rude in my view -- & extremely annoying, as Dame Edna would say. If you solicit the attention of others, do so for a reason. What could be simpler? If you grow weary of some people calling the fans morons, don't behave like a moron.
Maybe I am just old school- but I like to put some thought into my posts and encourage discussion, you know, actually write.
Not just enter a sentence blurb-
but hey that is just me...No, it isn't just you. Unfortunately, the problem is pervasive & will never improve.
However, think about it 200? and 14 pages?? Lets talk about something else:thumbsup:So start another thread on anything your heart wants. The existence of THIS thread doesn't in any way shape or form preclude the existence of another thread of your preference. We don't, as far as I know, have a quota on thread count on this forum. Don't gag other people. The size of this thread is an obvious indication that dozens of us are enjoying ourselves.

I totally get what you are saying. Remember at the Grammys (I think it was thr Grammys) in 2003 when Stevie gave Petty a lifetime acheivement award? He barely even looked up at her. He just kept tuning his guitar. I thought that was rather rude. But whatever!

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet, I'll go back and check (I'll make it a mission) but I really hate her HIGH KICKS at the end of Stand Back. I have to look away. They are so unlady-like in skirt. She's way to sophisticated to do such a thing right in our faces just to prove she's still limber. Big deal...what about her bad hip? It's not worth the risk. Plus it's obvious that it's a bit of a strain, the way she has to grip the mike with her hand will stepping on the stand with her other foot. I wish she'd drop it and I don't care who would miss it. Or understand WHY they would? YUCK.

I don't mind them at all while wearing her pants during "Rock and Roll" but still - not worth the risk.

I totally get what you are saying. Remember at the Grammys (I think it was thr Grammys) in 2003 when Stevie gave Petty a lifetime acheivement award? He barely even looked up at her. He just kept tuning his guitar. I thought that was rather rude. But whatever!

"

Well, here's a theory - it's just a theory, I admit, but -

Tom Petty has the biggest crush in the history of humanity on Stevie.
Always has, always will. But she "just considers him a friend."
( Think, "Tom you're a Really Nice Guy but..." )
He's rather embarrassed about it, and maybe a little shy around her, too. It's not that he doesn't think much of her, it's that he thinks the WORLD of her.
And it also gets in the way of them being able to work together Professionally, and he takes The Craft seriously enough, and is mature enough, to know that.
Check out the videos - many of them are OBVIOUSLY about Stevie.
At least he had the maturity to bow out gracefully, as opposed to certain people who have been kinda bitter in some of their post-Stevie songs, and no I'm not talking about Lindsey... :)

Well, here's a theory - it's just a theory, I admit, but -

I'm with you on this one. I always thought the Alice In Wonderland vid for "Don't Come Around Here No More" after Stevie wouldn't record it meant... something.

Reading through this thread, I see that other people love Mirror Mirror, Desert Angel, and When I See You Again as much as I do. God, I love WISYA, it's so raw.

I love Street Angel. It's my least favorite Stevie Album, but that's like saying "this is my least favorite kind of dark chocolate."

I love the stuff that so many fans seem to hate as too synthy and overproduced, namely Wild Heart, Rock A Little, and The Other Side Of The Mirror. WH is my favorite Stevie album.

My favorite Stevie song is Batte Of The Dragon and I'm amazed at how little attention it gets.

Her post-Tusk voice is more effective than older recordings where she sounds so girlish. The rougher and shakier she sounds, the better.

It's great that she's so close to Sheryl Crow she considers her like a sister. That rarely happens between artists.

She barely writes songs at all these days, and it's been that way for at least a decade. And doesn't want people to know that, whatever the reason.

The platform boots are ridiculous on a woman with hip trouble and I wish she'd ditch them. If she wants to wear Frankenboks, that's fine. She's entitled.

Her best hair was the overfluffed Mirage/Wild Heart look.

(As a side note, something happened between Lindsey & Christine somewhere along the way. And from the sound of TITN, it was pretty intense.)

WE LOVE YOU!!!! Despite the fact you are DEAD WRONG!!

Of course I may very well be! It's just an opinion and obviously an unpopular one among some. I see nothing wrong with speculating if someone has had a relationship with someone of the same gender because there's absolutely nothing with it. If I'm wrong, it's not like I insulted her...and that's how it's coming across in some of the responses. To me it's no different than speculating if Stevie is still in love with LB. But if I offended anyone, please accept my apology.

Do I dare?

~ducks and hides~

Sasja

Get out of my head. :wavey:

Some of Stevie's lyrics don't make any G.D. sense. Anyone who claims all of Stevie's lyrics make total sense and he knows exactly what Stevie is talking about must be *forcing* the words to fit somehow because he wants badly to feel a connection or feel "special" for understanding Stevie's inner thoughts.

1 - I don't think there's anything going on between Stevie & Lindsey at all (except for maybe a deep friendship) and the things they did at the SYW tour were all fake.
2 - I used to think Stevie and Sharon were more than just "roommates"
3 - I looooove the 80's hair (the bigger the better)
4 - I don't like her outfits anymore, give me the 70's look, the hippy look. She looks more like a diva now
5 - I don't like her mic stand, it's too much

Question: a couple of people had a comment about her personal assistant ( someone said she was scary, another person said she could take a hike etc), what's up with that? Isn't she nice to the fans????

I think a lot of stuff that Stevie and Company do up on stage is their own idea, but if you look at the credits to "Live in Boston," there was actually a Director. I betcha that was his or her idea. Maybe the stuff she did before "Stand Back," also. ( Although I have my suspicions that what happened there is Brent Tuggle screwed up and didn't come in at the right time, and Stevie was actually pointing at him like, "This is YOOOOUUUuuuu!"
and then covered for him. Did anyone else have that impression? )

It's the same move she does in the Red rocks video.

One of my very favorite songs by Stevie, is off Rock A Little IF I WERE YOU, and I actually really like INSPIRATION.

I don't really like the way SMILE AT YOU turned out for SYW - I much prefer the angry demo version from the 70's.

I'm confused, one of the reasons you don't really love her is because she is way to sweet to everyone all the time? Please explain.

I'm sorry but everyone is bitchy now and then. Just because you act bitchy once in a while it doesn’t make you a bitch. Stevie is under a microscope so if she's bitchy to someone or says something bitchy she could easily be a called a bitch. I have no doubt in my mind she can be bitchy, 99% of us can be. Do I think she's a bitch overall - no, I think she's pretty darn sweet in general but has her moments as we all do. The difference is we aren't being judged for everything we say or do in public.

See, I think if she was a bitch we would have seen that shine through already. I've never seen anything where Stevie has acted bitchy or even like a drama queen. However, after seeing the Destiny Rules documentary I think Lindsey is more self absorbed than she is. Stevie was totally level headed through most of the film, while Lindsey was the one that seemed to live in the clouds. Which is totally opposite of what I would have previously assumed.

I think Stevie tries to make everyone happy, so she says whatever she thinks will accomplish this, but she ends up confusing a lot of people (and pissing them off 'cause it seems like she can't tell a straight story).

She has stories that she tells everyone, but she's hard to really get to know. This is why she relies on her family and a lot of friends she's known for a long time because history is the only thing she really has in common with people.

I'm not convinced she knows what she wants.

Me, too. On both the bitchy aspect, and the self-important one. Love her to death, too, but I have always had that feeling, as well.

To the people who think that saying Stevie can be a bitch, or is a bitch, is insulting to her - I don't think those of us saying it see that as necessarily a bad thing. Though, I don't want to speak for the others. For me, I like anyone who stands up for herself or himself. And knows what she wants and how to get it. Unfortunately, a woman is often labelled a "bitch" for that. But I'd take bitch over meek and mild. I don't like sugar-coating. If you think something, say it. That doesn't mean "be downright nasty and mean to people," but express yourself, and be yourself. And I think Stevie does that.

but i also think she thinks a leeeeettle too much of herself sometimes

Hi everybody! Long time, no see. But I couldn't miss this topic! Ghosttracker, I usually agree with you but I don't on this one.

1. I think Stevie has had the hugest crush on Tom Petty since she met him and Tom looks at Stevie as the little sister he never had and is enchanted by her half the time and completely annoyed by her the other half. I think he might be the one musician she didn't do.

2. I think Stevie has had lesbian *affairs* but nothing serious. Just flings.

3. I think Stevie's greatest loves are:
Fleetwood
Walsh
Buckingham
Henley
In that order
On edit: There was another great love of Stevie's. She hooked up with him in San Francisco while she was with Lindsey in the early 70s and had to decide between the two. I think he is neck and neck with Lindsey in the *greatest loves* department. I think she still thinks about him.

4. I think Stevie has had more than a few *almost serious* relationships in the last 10 years.
Buckingham wasn't one of them

5. I think Stevie isn't the one packin up, shackin up these days and that Buckingham not only hasn't hooked back up with her in the last 20 years but has hooked up with at least one non-Stevie in the last few.
I think that pisses Stevie off but only because of pride

6. I love Street Angel

7. Stevie still smokes
Both weed and cigs

8. I think Stevie is a snob but doesn't know it

9. I think Stevie is clingy to this day to Mick and needs him by her side at functions and in personal life. I think his wife gets this and has made peace with it. I think they need each other in almost a spiritual way that won't die until one of them do
And probably not even then

10. I think Stevie tours and works all the time because she can't face her personal life or how her life has turned out in other areas. Her work is her distraction and her escape. If she stopped touring, she might melt down

11. I think Stevie wishes she had had kids. The whole *giving it up for the sake of her art* is a ruse. She never hooked up with the right guy at the right time, made ****ty choices and by the time she figured all that out and got clean, it was too late. The *giving it up* thing is to mask the pain that has caused her

I'll think of more later but the last one is:

12. I don't think anything is ever on the surface with Stevie. She sticks with what she knows, which is making great music. Everything else, and even to herself, should be taken with a grain of salt. She hasn't figured herself out so the rest of the world doesn't stand a chance. But she knows she's loved and adored by millions and that's what gets her through the night.

I've often wondered why this woman, who has frequently been in less than tip-top shape (whether it was bad hips or broken foots or sore necks or infected tonsils or inflamed vocal cords or bad colds or illicit pharmaceuticals or just plain depression), has toured just about continually since 1975.

The only years I can think of where she didn't perform anywhere (or performed only once or twice on TV) were: 1984, 1992, 1993 & 1995. That's only FOUR years out of THIRTY-ONE years. That's a shockingly busy performing & touring schedule throughout her life. So I think you're right -- I think that quite possibly indicates an emotional need to be out working & not at home, for some reason. Is her home *really* her "sanctuary"?

So I think you're right -- I think that quite possibly indicates an emotional need to be out working & not at home, for some reason. Is her home *really* her "sanctuary"?

Bingo. I think Stevie is one of the most insecure people on the face of the planet and her aloneness is almost death to her. I would expect her to tour until she drops, although not necessarily record. One more may be her limit there. More time out on the road. Those Vegas dates will come in handy.

Her home? Her sanctuary only in small doses.

Thanks! Wow, it felt good to *Stevie-talk* again. A lot of changes in my life but I needed that tonight!

Btw, I didn't expect too many to agree with me on Street Angel! I'm almost alone in that one.

i think the ones you really nailed are the ones about tom petty, her true loves, the reason she tours as much as she does, and the truth about her feelings about not having kids. i love when other people root around inside my head and manage to pull out exactly what i believe yet don't always think to express here. :xoxo:
