Well, OSOTM and Street Angel are my faves.

I love the whole BIG late 80's-ness thing.

I love all her alter egos.

There are other things, I just can't think of them right now.

Well, I love Whole Lotta Trouble and Desert Angel

I thought her sweater for the Say You Will tour was very cute

I think she still loves Lindsey, but they'll most likely never get back together

I don't like that she cut her bangs again after part of the Say You Will tour

I actually like her songs on Tango

I'm sure I can think of some more, just give me a sec. ~ Kristen

I think OSOTM is horrible

I think her setlists are tiresome, and some of the classics should be out of the rotation... for a while

I thought the Enchanted tour was great

I think she's blind as a bat, hey it happens

I think she really digs playing at Red Rocks, and it the most sincere when she speaks to the fans there

[QUOTE=StreetAngel86;504194]then why was..and why does she still wear the engagement ring?

So, I'd like to hear more about this marriage proposal and engagement ring - and the assertion that Stevie still wears it.

I've never heard of this... Please fill me in.

Very interesting...I did not see it like that at all and this was mentioned in another thread. I honestly believe she posted those entries to raise awareness and educate people regarding the brutality of the war (regardless of how she feels about it) and more importantly the soldiers who put their lives on the line for our country. I really do not think Stevie Nicks needs to impress us at this point in her life with her charitable contributions. I believe she knows that her fans who read her journal entries are aware that she is a kind and caring person. I saw this as a completely selfless act and I can't believe people actually think she is posting the journal entries for self gratification purposes. There are plenty of other things she could be doing besides visiting wounded soldiers but she chooses to do this and give of herself. Now that being said Stevie does have a way of sounding self-important (and I'll be the first to admit that) but I honestly think that was not her intent in sharing these with us and if she does come across that way in the journal entries it's anything but their intended meaning. Can't you just look beyond that and see that she may be helping these people and taking them out of a dark place? That's just Stevie, accept her and see the good in what she is doing.

I am personally so glad to have any of her journal entries shared with us. Would you rather have not heard about this at all? It has definitely meant something to me and made me think twice about these soldiers and all they do for us so in my mind the journal entries have served a purpose and I think that was her point. People (like myself) look up to Stevie and reading what she said has definitely given me new perspective on what these men and women have done for us. I didn't look at as "Stevie is writing another self-important journal entry" but rather, "Wow, these men and women have done so much for our country and I'm so thrilled that someone they respect and admire can bring a little joy into their world because Lord knows they deserve it!".

Having thrown many a charity event, I can tell you that her public endoresement of this raises an awareness money cannot buy. So, I cannot fault her for using that power and any charity in its right mind would take it in a second. Moreover, quiet donations are all fine and dandy for established charities like The Red Cross, but this is something new, like the helmut protection thing Cher was publicizing. So, I do not get the hate on her actions in promoting it.

As for the self important aspect, when you are one of the most famous people in the world and have been since like 1974 - and literally thousands of people clamour for your attention, stalk you, and tell you every night how your music changed their lives, I think you start to believe it and are in awe of it. That is what she means when she says she believes she was put on this planet to make people better through her music, like Rhiannon did with her birds and song. I think that is why she puts her music and other music? on those iPods. Again, who on this board if they met her would not tell her some version of how important her music is to you, how it changed you, etc. So, I cut her some slack here because she is correct that her music has inspired and helped heal literally thousands of people.

Bumping this ancient thread...

-I LOVE the Red Rocks concert video. No shame.

-Too many of Stevie's songs are over-produced. I almost exclusively listen to demos and outtakes. I love songs like "It's Not A Dream"- simple, nothing but Stevie. And I love the synth stuff. So much. :)

-I have tried for almost two years, but I do not like the "In Your Dreams" album at all. I do not connect with the music, production, or vocals. The whole thing feels too polished, too cautious for my personal tastes. :sorry: However, I do love that so many people love it, that Stevie loves it, and that so many people consider it amazing

Also agreeing with these posts:

- I don't like the present day "Rhiannon" on stage.
- RAL will always be my absolute favorite album by her
- I don't like and never have liked "The Other Side of the Mirror"
- Her songs on "Say You Will" sucked. Lindsey should have kept it a solo album. His songs on that record are FAR superior.

My unpopular opinions:

*Stevie got better looking as she got older.

*The Tango/80s big hair and outlandish outfits made her look hot.

*The Nightmare, Welcome To The Room...Sara, When I See You Again and Two Kinds Of Love are all great songs.

*She's lying when she says she didn't know cocaine was dangerous.

1) I love watching the coked out Stevie - would've loved to have hung around with her then, I think she was alot of fun back then

2) I love the wavy, curly hair - HATE this straight stuff, I think it makes her look older

7) I think TISL would've been better without Sheryl's influence, some of the songs I just don't like AT ALL, don't think it was her best work yet, in fact I wish she'd write more like BellaDonna and WH, RAL, etc.

8) She's had some kind of minor work done face-wise, she looks just too incredible!

12) she really knows what her songs are about but won't tell, EVER - they're a secret

- I don't buy the "I was a sweet girl and had never drank before FM", -I do buy that Christine taught her how to drink- English style- snifters of brandy and some lovely wines...

-Oh yeah...the coke deal...C'mon, even if everyone was doing it-somewhere in your mind you HAD to know it would come to no good end-

Addendum to my post on page one of this thread :p

4. Stevie and Lindsey were in love in the early seventies but haven't been for over thirty years. Fans are the only ones that haven't moved on.

Stevie PLEASE STOP THE AIR GUITAR..THE AIR DRUMS & AIR VIOLIN & AIR LASSO!!! PLEASE I BEG YOU TO STOP IT!!!!!

I'm with you on this one. I always thought the Alice In Wonderland vid for "Don't Come Around Here No More" after Stevie wouldn't record it meant... something.

Reading through this thread, I see that other people love Mirror Mirror, Desert Angel, and When I See You Again as much as I do. God, I love WISYA, it's so raw.

I love the stuff that so many fans seem to hate as too synthy and overproduced, namely Wild Heart, Rock A Little, and The Other Side Of The Mirror. WH is my favorite Stevie album.

My favorite Stevie song is Batte Of The Dragon and I'm amazed at how little attention it gets.

Her post-Tusk voice is more effective than older recordings where she sounds so girlish. The rougher and shakier she sounds, the better.

Her best hair was the overfluffed Mirage/Wild Heart look.

(As a side note, something happened between Lindsey & Christine somewhere along the way. And from the sound of TITN, it was pretty intense.)

I don't think there should be a film made about Stevie's life.

Chris Nicks' resentment of the way he was treated as a child, versus the way his precious and talented sister was treated, played a part in his ability sit back and watch his sister, as an adult, completely fall apart and reach death's door on two seperate occaisions, while he was on her payroll.

I don't know anything about the situation, obviously, but I always wondered what her family thought of the drugs. I can't imagine working for my sibling and just watching him/her spiral. (I don't know if Chris just "watched," it just kind of seems that way from an outsider's perspective).

I agree with so much of this thread:

I think much of her solo career is way, way overproduced... which is why I generally prefer her work in Fleetwood Mac.

*ALL* post '82 Rhiannons are painful trainwrecks.

I just can't get into You Can't Fix This... the music is fantastic... Stevie's lyrics are atrocious. :distress:

I too like Red Rocks, and Rock A Little is one of my fav of Stevie's solo albums.

I think there is a LOT of strong material on Street Angel. So many straightfoward, back to basics rock songs.

They aren't pretty, but When I See You Again & The Second Time are some of Stevie's most poignant songs. They capture the absolute desperation of the time when they were written... they showcase just how crazy & sick she was, how she almost didn't pull through.

I truly enjoy Desert Angel. I think it's very atmospheric and it's the closest thing we've ever gotten to a political protest song from Stevie. I dig the sentiment behind this one.

I think Destiny Rules & Illume are every bit as good as Gypsy & Gold Dust Woman.

I don't think Stevie's voice is up for extensive touring anymore. Most of the time she just sounds plain bad. She's toured too much, for too long. It's taken it's toll.

1. Street Angel is not as bad as it's rep says.
2. Beauty and the Beast is awful
3. Rhiannon is WAY overpraised.
4. Highway man is my Fav Stevie solo tune
5. Stevie needs shorter more concise albums.

I have SO many of what I would assume to be unpopular opinions about Stevie. This list probably isn't even the half of it.

- "Sister Honey" is AWESOME!
- Her voice sounded best on "Trouble in Shangri-La" the album.
- "Trouble In Shangri-La" is her best album.
- The album versions of "Nomad/Candlebright" and "Sorceror" are better than the demos.
- The demos of "Think About It" are just as good as the album version.
- "Destiny Rules" is one of Stevie's top 5 best songs.
- Stevie's version of "Crystal" is soooooo much better than Lindsey's.
- The Soundstage versions of "Sara," "Landslide," and "Gold Dust Woman" are all just as good if not better than their album versions.
- She needs to stop covering Led Zeplin's "Rock & Roll" live because it's not that great.
- "Love Is" is just as good as any of her older ballads...and I much prefer the album version to the demo.
- I love "Sisters of the Moon" but it's not even close to the top of my favorites list.
- The Live at Red Rocks concert is horrible and almost unlistenable.
- The live version of "Beautiful Child" from "Live in Boston" is better than the album version.
- The live version of "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" from Tom Petty's live DVD is superior to any other version.
- I prefer Stevie's deeper voice to her 70's voice.
- I prefer the versions of dreams where she DOESN'T hit the high notes (a la "The Dance" CD).

Hi, everyone....I'm new to The Ledge. I've been a longtime reader, but only recently decided to officially join in the (great) conversations that take place here. I'm an avid Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks fan; have been since the late 1970s, when, as an adolescent, I first heard Stevie Nicks sing "thunder only happens when it's raining."

I love this thread and thought I'd chime in. Hope you don't mind.....

My unpopular Stevie opinions include:

• I love "When I See You Again"
• I think "Rhiannon" and "Dreams" should be dropped from her live sets
• I don't think Stevie covers other people's songs very well (although "Circle Dance" is an exception)
• I think Stevie can at times be a lazy writer and needs a good editor to push her to be better
• I love "Say You Will," "Destiny Rules," and "Silver Girl" (forgive me). I love the lyrics of "Everybody Finds Out," but don't love the production
• I wish Stevie would get rid of Margi Kent. She needs an updated wardrobe for the stage, something that actually shows off her great, slim figure. Margi Kent can't seem to do that
• I love the IYD version of "Secret Love" and actually thinks it's better than the demo
• I'm not a huge fan of "Edge of Seventeen." The lyrics are great, the main riff is great, but the song as a whole seems a bit repetitive to me
• I really enjoy the Wild Heart and Rock a Little Stevie and wish she'd bring some of that spontaneity back to her live shows
• I think her vocal coach has actually done more harm than good. I think he's convinced her to avoid certain notes and aspects of her voice just so that she "never has a bad night"
• I think Stevie's television performances in the past 5-6 years have been terrible (except her recent "You Can't Fix This" on Letterman)
• I love, love, love live versions of "Silver Springs"
• I wish she'd work with someone other than Waddy Wachtel
• I hope she never, ever again wears the Frankenbocks

The album version of "Love Is" is one of my all time favourite songs.

I love the SYW Smile at You - especially the descending musical scale with hovering vocals at the end

I am so in love with At Last I would gobble up a Stevie album of standards with an orchestra

I think Somebody Stand By Me is one of her greatest

Like most on here, I'll start by saying I love Stevie to pieces, there was a time I would get an adrenaline rush every time one of her songs came on. My best memory is running as a young boy and would you stay if she promised you heaven going through my head, then I got my mom to buy me the album once I figured out who this great voice belonged to. Here's some of my strongly held opinions:

- It's like there are two Stevies, the beautiful voice captured in time on BN, White, and Rumours and those early tours, which vanished by the time Tusk was recorded. Then a whole new Stevie emerged and it was like we were listening to a new artist. The new voice seemed then to strengthen and grow to a peak on the Wild Heart.
- By the mid 80's Stevie had pretty much destroyed her voice and unleashed a silly almost self parody album in Rock a Little and went on a lengthy tour just to make sure she ripped every last vocal chord.
- Her voice returned in the early 90's and sounded wonderful again by Street Angel. This made Street Angel her best sounding record since '83.
- She desperately needs to cut her hair to at least shoulder length, it's way too long for her height and looks awful.
- Stevie looks terrible in black clothes.
- The wardrobe too looks definitely now like "she's going to a halloween party". Why doesn't she wear cream, red and blue, she looks stunning in those colours.
- Listening to her drug survival stories is getting old...we get it.
- Stevie should stop touring, her voice can't handle live performances any more.
- Stevie wrote some of her best material for Say You Will and In Your Dreams.
- Stevie should never again talk about her relationship with Lindsey, or write one more song about him...how many people still talk about ex's they broke up with 35 years ago...who cares, get on with the music.

ok, here goes...

1. Stevie sucks at doing cover versions
2. Her early 70's voice is annoying and squeeky - her late 70's/early 80's voice was her peak
3. I massively prefer "Trouble In Shangri-La" to "In Your Dreams"
4. I love "That Made Me Stronger" and would love to see her do it live
5. I don't like "Long Distance Winner" at all
6. Her "Mirage" songs are better than her "Rumours" songs
7. "Street Angel" was a hell of a lot better than "Other Side Of the Mirror"
8. I don't like her duets - Don Henley and Sandy Stewart need to SHUT UP
9. I would quite happily never hear "Landslide" again
10. Stevie is far more interested in making money than about her die hard fans who have followed her all these years. She doesn't care - she wants to cash in on EVERYTHING. If there is money to be made, she'll do it. Hence the constant tours, reissues of "Rumours", same setlist of "hits" over and over again, same stories over and over again. Mick is just the same.
11. God knows I love the woman, but there are NO rewards for being a Stevie Nicks fan. She ignores half her solo career in her live sets, only ever tours the same cities in the US and occasionally Australia (what about the rest of your fans, Stevie? Europe? Japan?), hardly ever releases anything new (1 and a half albums in 10 years? THAT SUCKS!) and her official website might as well not exist it's so out of date, badly laid out and full of incorrect information.

Fleetwood Mac tour = $$$$$$$$$$

I'll tell you now, Stevie is NOT sitting at home in Phoenix thinking "oh wow, I'm really looking forward to getting out on the road and performing and doing what I love and making lots of people happy". She's thinking "KA-CHING!! I can rehash some songs and fake some love for Lindsey, thousands of gullible casual fans will lap it up and scream when we play "Landslide" and pretend we're still in love and I will make a **** LOAD of money for it!!"

Yup.

I think she's only in it to cash in, hence why she's been so reluctant to do a full album with them. She's not interested in the music anymore, which is REALLY sad as I strongly believe she once was. If you watch Destiny Rules where the record label execs have come to hear the demos and she's saying "I prayed to the commercial gods!!", it really upsets me, because once upon a time, Stevie Nicks did not care what was commercial. She WAS commercial, without trying to be so, because she was creating something that she loved and was proud of and that meant something to her, which in turn meant so much to the rest of the world.

It didn't used to be that unpopular of an opinion around here, but I regard Rock a Little as a minor masterpiece.

Also, her version of "I Still Miss Someone" is brilliant, and one of the best things on TOSOTM.

This is a really interesting thread... and I wonder if I'm being far too premature in trying to join in because I've only reaaaally been able to call myself a proper actual seek out information fan for about 4 weeks, but there are a few things I suppose I've thought about in that time, as there's so much to go on with such a lengthy career. I have no idea if these are unpopular/controversial whatever, but here goes!

I find anything solo post-Bella Donna really hard to like (up until Trouble in Shangri-La, which I like a lot). Scary 80's, very scary. She barely even looks like the same person sometimes.

Her vocals on Buckingham Nicks are probably my favourites apart from That's Alright which I can listen to over and over and never get bored of (so far :p ) and for some reason I just go all tingly when I hear her backing on Honey Hi (I love that song a bit too much, dunno why - is that normal? hah).

I love her style around Rumours - Tusk including the crazy bun/top knot thing. I'm pretty fascinated with her generally around this era.

I've found In Your Dreams really hard to get into, and her take on Annabel Lee is not nearly as nice as the Sarah Jarosz version, IMO.

I'm really bored of the Lindsey story already.

I think she lives in total Stevieland but (from what I have gathered by trawling through as many interviews as I can in 4 weeks) seems polite, warm, gracious, generous and grateful.

Every Day is one of the better songs on TISL.
I love the Tusk Bun.
When I See You Again isn't a dreadful song. Or the worst one on Tango.
I don't understand the outpouring of love for Love Is, it's not one of her better ballads.
Her cover of Free Fallin' is better than the original.
Stevie should have left Fleetwood Mac after Mirage.

It didn't used to be that unpopular of an opinion around here, but I regard Rock a Little as a minor masterpiece.

Also, her version of "I Still Miss Someone" is brilliant, and one of the best things on TOSOTM.

I so agree about ISMS, such a hidden treat on that album.

Hmm.

1. Street Angel is a great album
2. Stevie has wasted years and years of creativity talking about instead of doing.
3. I think she's far more bored with her old songs than she will ever admit. This shows on stage, when she is usually putting in a grand total of zero effort on her vocals, with a few exceptions.
4. Angel is *not* a good song.
5. Sara is a total bore and waste of the 6 minutes of space it took up on the vinyl record.
6. I miss coked out Stevie and her voice and her writing.

Internet piracy thing she keeps bringing up is getting old.I always say .If the industry stop producing crap for music these days .Maybe fans will start buying legit copies of tunes.

I do understand her point about ripping her off of her music.

Also She keep saying save the music industry at the end of her and FM concerts.
I will say the same for that too.

Turn it back 25 years ago when I used to buy $75 to $100 dollars worth of music. It was will worth it .Now forget it.The last CD that I bought was IYD the next will be FM''s Rumours collection.

If Stevie is going to continue with FM, she needs to be there for whole albums. It doesn't need to be where LB, MF, and JM have been working for 6 months to a year and a half on the album and then Stevie shows up.

I am definitely not a shipper about LB and SN.

2. "Trouble in Shangri La" and "Say You Will (Stevie's material)" gets worse and worse to my ear with each passing year.
3. I think "Gate and Garden," "Sable on Blond," and "Wild Heart (album version)" are lousy songs.
4. "Soldiers Angel" has an amazing message, but might be the worst song shes ever done.
5. Theres a lot of material on "Buckingham Nicks" I can't get into.
6. I wish she would ditch the platform boots on stage. Even though she seems to be doing better with the lower heels now, I think she moves around on stage more when shes in her shoes.
7. I'll back up KarmaContestant - "Angel" is not a great song. I think the live versions with FM were horrendous. It goes nowhere. The only version I ever liked was from the HBO special and that was just because of the different, more rocking arrangement.
8. I've come to appreciate "Landslide" more now as I've gotten older and will even listen to it.

im not going to critque specific songs but rather address each album as its own "piece" of artwork:

Bella Donna-a clear masterpiece..came out in 81..she was beginning to be loved as a stand out in FM...just came out of the 70's rock era...people loved the female rockers..pat benatar was on the scene...joan jett...etc..aside form that the music is outstanding...in a class all its own..classic stevie lyrics

The Wild Heart-MY FAVORITE..good rough sounding unrehearsed garage rock..her voice was awesome on every song...opens up w/a kick ass song and closes w/a beautiful orchestral piece...comes in like a lion..goes out like a lamb..again the writing on this is pure classic stevie..abstract and whimsical

Rock A Little-I likes it but its weird..."sister honey??" almost disco like..."some become strangers???" WTF??? she started singing other peoples stuff and it made no sense to me..this is sooooo unstevie like...started to think she was crasping at something to keep up w/the changing music industry..AND THE VIDEOS??!! OMG.."I cant wait" HORRIBLE..she sold out w/all the weird make up and hair..reminds me of what ann wilson said they did to Heart in the 80's

The Other Side Of The Miror- stevie even further slipping away..other than "Ghosts" and "Oo My Love"...the record is weird..opens w/"Rooms On Fire" and closes with "I Still Miss Someone" MAKES noooo sense..the album has zero flow..its like she just had to get an album out because it had been 4 years between records..dont get me wrong..i like it..it just seems like there were more and more hands in the cookie jar with each album and each album progressively lost her classic style

Street Angel- like she just went into a her "room of songs" and picked 13 songs...no rhyme or reason to any of this...couple good songs..but nothing satnds out...."watching her decline" at this point

Troule In Shangri La- listened to it once..shelfed it...waaaaaaaaaay over produced..cheryl crow..WHO I LOVE...should have stayed away from this..nothing on this album sounds like stevie nicks...lyrically or musically...it got a lot of promo so i think thats why it did as well as it did...

In Your Dreams- After listening to this...i do "like" it but i dont "love" it..its just there..made zero impact onme personally...it lacks flow and is just boring to listen to

In a nutshell...she was so much better when she was doing her own thing...and high as a kite...way more in touch w/her creativity...not to mention her unchanged 30+ year old set list..i have said this before..i think it time she hangs up her tamborine and starts writing the book we are all waiting for..none of this is meant disrespectfully..i love her to death and will never NOT buy anything she does...its just that themagic she once had is no longer

Illume is a solid masterpiece. Destiny is a gorgeous thing utterly and inexcusably destroyed by Stevie's old arch-enemy, the devil who somehow coaxes her to destroy her songs - HIDEOUSLY INCOMPETENT PRODUCTION. Who decided hiding her vocals and poetry behind someone swatting at a giant snare drim and slapping irritably at a guitar would bring out the tragic beauty of this song.

Illume is one of my all time favourite FM songs.

I love Gate and Garden, The Nightmare and Every Day.

I hate The Highwayman and Nightbird.

When you have the St. Louis performance to stand it against, Mirage Sisters sucks. I just like the speaking in tongues and the fact that she disappears for a blatant coke break in it.

Every Day was my favourite from TISL. I really love The Highwayman, but I can see how you couldn't like Nightbird. It's too messy. Like someone was leaning on the mixing board and they were just like, "oops. Well, sounds 80s, let's leave it in!"

1. I love the majority of "The Other Side of the Mirror." I know its not "great" music, but it brings back amazing memories for me when I listen.

9. I think "Straight Back" and "That's Alright" are awful and non-comparable to "Gypsy."
10. The Wild Heart Tour was sort of lackluster due to its set list.

OSOTM gets a lot of ****, but it really captures that era. It was more of a bridge between eras than Street Angel. To quote the lady herself, "there's a definite eerieness that runs through that." Maybe it's because I know it was recorded in a castle, but there's a certain mood in that album that isn't in the other ones -- and it can't be the klono because she was more klono'ed on SA.

Say You Will is ugh. The kid chorus at the end of the actual song = death knell.

I think it was David that called it her linebacker voice on the Tusk tour. The Wild Heart and Enchanted eras were her vocal peaks. My personal favourites. I've never heard her let 'er rip on "wiiiiiiiild heart" like that before or since.

ok, here goes...
5. I don't like "Long Distance Winner" at all

Sunflowers and his face don't fascinate you? :distress: It's one of my favourite BN songs, but even I find her voice a little grating on it. She's a bleat away from being a sheep (not a goat!) on that line.

Preach.

None of mine seem to be super unpopular but:

I too find "When I See You Again" very moving, though I do think some of it is technically sub par.

I like some of her post TITN Mac songs like "Freedom", "Paper Doll" and "No Questions Asked". But I really don't know how unpopular that is?

I love the boho hippie influence in her various wardrobe choices but the Gothic Victorian part not as much. I don't hate it either though.

I think Stevie is as much in love with her freedom as she is afraid of being unloved. I don't think it's one or the other. She's just conflicted and thus hard to please. Or maybe I'm projecting ;) I think a lot of her personal autobiography is revisionist history (like how somebody pointed out that she used to say she want kids until it was biologically u feasible at which pt her story changed)-BUT I don't feel disdainful or pitying about this. I think such enormous regret is hard to live with and she was always indecisive anyway. I guess I see it as her way of not letting herself be defined as a tragedy and there's something in that that compels me, even though I do think she is prone to martyring herself.

I also don't care for "Leather and Lace." I like "Crystal" okay enough but I really don't think it's that great. I utterly love "Fireflies".

I love Tusk era Stevie's voice (and clothes) the best.

Sorry if any of these are totally not unpopular at all, I guess I really don't know what is or isn't.

I just find it vastly overrated as a performance. Her vocals were so obviously shot by that point. Most of her performances on the Mirage DVD sound bad, Rhiannon and Gypsy being two other examples. I just hate it when her voice takes on that croaky almost whimpering sound when sings. She just strains for most of the notes and you can barely make her out. Plus she couldn't even be arsed to sing most of it and left Lindsey to pick it up. Horrible performance.

Didn't Stevie have laryngitis like 2 days before the Mirage video was filmed? I agree that "Gypsy" and "Rhiannon" are pretty dire, apart from the "I don't change, you don't change, it's all the same" chant where she rips it up at the end of "Rhiannon".

Her vocals were pretty testy throughout the majority of the 1980s anyway. The drugs and the singing from the throat came back to haunt her post the Bella Donna Tour. Different strokes for different folks, but I find it odd that some of her worst performances are amongst some her most acclaimed by fans. I can't believe a great concert like the Bella Donna Tour is not available on DVD whilst Live at Red Rocks is. The majority of that show is an embarrassment. They even released the crappy US Festival concert on DVD instead of the Bella Donna Tour.

I don't know about laryngitis (not that it would surprise me, she's sick often enough), but Robin died a couple of days before the Mirage DVD. I've always seen that given as the reason for the lackluster "Gypsy." I think the rest of the performance was virtually flawless.

As a whole I'm not all that fond of Belladonna. I like the title track and Edge of Seventeen, Leather and Lace but really nothing else. I know that's totally blasphemous to say. I'm not saying it's not a good record, I think it's absolutely brilliant. It's just not to my liking.

I absolutely love Rose Garden, No Questions Asked and Welcome to the Room, Sara.

Tusk era Stevie is my favorite time for her voice and image. Seeing her dance "like an old time dance hall girl" in the Angel video thrills me every time.

I love the demo of Annabell Lee as much as the album version.

I think When I See You Again is an incredibly beautiful and heartfelt song but cringe when she shouts "BABY BABY" in it.

I hate to admit this but I think the line "maybe I'm just thinking that the rooms are all on fire every time you walk in the room" is a bad lyric. I'm sorry, it's the writer in me. You just don't use the same word twice in the same line like that. And yes, I would tell that to Bob Dylan.

some thoughts just off the top off my head.....

I love the fact Stevie used others music for her "new" songs on Timespace...yes I love them both including Desert Angel

OTSOTM is brilliant and SA has a special place in my heart, despite the warts

RAL, at one time was my favorite (in 86) but I can barely stand to listen to half of it now

I like Paper Doll, but don't care much for No Questions Asked

I love the fact that she does I Need to Know live, but I despise(like most) that she insists on doing Rn'R

I love her TITN entries

I love her work on the BTM album, and actually love this line-up of musicians, as well

Sweet Girl is brilliant

Illume and Smile At You from SYW, I could live without

I really don't care for New Orleans or Soldiers Angel

Twisted should be sung with LB at some stage/performance in her career (hello 2013?)

Landslide should have been dropped from the setlist a long time ago in favor of Crystal....damn those Dixie Chicks

17.) I think she isn't as careful as she should be about "borrowing" certain things from her influences ( Oscar Wilde, the guitarist of The Police/Edge of Seventeen riff, etc. ) She doesn't know where the line is and she's VERY lucky that she hasn't been sued, and if she had been it would have made her a BETTER songwriter and a BETTER person.

18.) I think she lies through her teeth about what Edge of Seventeen is actually about, and will never, never, never admit what it's really about. And she thinks it isn't obvious to most people over the age of 12. ( Granted it was first written about John Lennon and her uncle and I know that meant a lot to her, but have you SEEN the HBO Special? Please. )

# 17, she got sued in 1980 over the lyrics in SARA.

I always thought it's about an older woman having an affair with a younger man and recalling her own sexual awakening while younger, and the years that passed since, and generally trying to fill her life up with a passion of some kind.

In my mind that all still makes much more sense than the John Lennon/dead uncle stuff, heheh. Oh well, plenty of poetry and drug-fueled 60's songs are probably really about nothing too.

Eof17 seems to be about teenage romance, as does Beautiful Child, with its "when I was only ten" lyric, maybe the same story from diffent perspectives. Meanwhile, on SYW, we find Destiny Rules and Everybody Finds Out seemingly discussing relationships with a married man.

I think Beautiful Child is about Mick (and those two SYW songs are about Lindsey). But I don't think either she or Mick were 17 when they met.

I hope (and this is going to be unpopular) that they won't do Angel, Sisters, Storms or any of those great old songs. She doesn't have the chops anymore. Every time time I hear Rhiannon I cringe. The guitar solo is gone and so are the great vocals at the end. As sad as it is Rhiannon should be shelved.

I haven't posted in awhile but I so have to jump in on this just to say.......I think Stevie's songs on "Tusk" that everyone thinks are about Lindsey ( Storms, Angel)are actually about Don Henley. Likewise, "The Long Run" is about Stevie as is "Wasted Time" and yes, "Life In The Fast Lane" is about Don and Stevie.

I did not like the way "Storms" worked out on the Unleashed tour. Much too loud and harsh, monotone, totally lost the atmosphere of the original.

i remember buying it coz we DIDN'T have the record :(

i don't mind the songs live. but off the album, i can't stand them
especially Stevie. I hate her 70s voice too.

Exactly and that's why I hope that they'll leave Angel, SOTM etc alone and take Rhiannon out of the setlist. She can't do it anymore, all the songs are in a lower key because her voice deepened. Nothing wrong with that but that doesn't mean she can't put some energy in them.

There are too many "similarities" to other songs in her lyrics. If she is going to "borrow" a good line or two, she should at least shake it up a bit.

My unpopular opinions:

I am excited that Stevie is going to be on Oprah's Master Class, but I honestly don't think she will say anything that we have not heard already. She will not be like Jane Fonda and get too personal, unfortunately. I would love to hear more stories about her life other than her too oft repeated stories about how she and Lindsey started out. She is like a broken record, says the same things over and over in most interviews.

Her live shows are another case of her repeating herself, by repeating the same songs over and over. I do not know how she can't be tired of her songs. I could not sing the same songs night after night like she does and not want to hang myself. She needs to sing some different songs, and she knows this. At one of the q and a's for her doc, she sang snippets of Bella Donna, Rock a Little, and one other I can't remember. I appreciated the IYD shows for their diversity and new songs.

I believe also that she is all about the money, unfortunately. I believe after The Dance she saw the fans' demand, realized she could make lots of money, and once she got started she went on for more than 10 years. I think money is very important to her.

She doesn't do enough for the fans as far as making an effort to meet them or talk to them. And we have so much to tell her!

I also believe she works a lot in order to not deal with her personal life as one poster said. She admitted it in a recent interview, Stevie Nicks: The Return of FM. She was in Malibu renting a place and she said: "I'm trying to rest and it's really hard to rest because in either one of my own houses I feel like I should be working. I've been coming here off and on for nearly 10 years and there's absolutely nothing for me to do except draw or sit and write poetry or bring the electric piano down." Problem is, "I've been here since Tuesday and I haven't managed yet to actually come up here at 3 in the afternoon and go sit on that miserable couch and draw for a few hours..." I think the fact that she rarely lives in her house is kind of weird. She lives more in her apartment. And watching the parts of the IYD doc, her house is not really all that decorated. Her lamps are placed randomly around the room...you can tell she doesn't spend a lot of time there. Compared with her previous residence, her house is plain. I always look at the staircase and wish she'd replace that ugly blue carpet on the stairs! I will post a pic of her previous living room.

I think Stevie's frustration and unhappiness with life can be cured by looking to a higher power. When I heard that she "moves from situation to situation like a ghost" it made me very sad. Something is missing in her life. Maybe it's spiritual help.

It makes me cry almost when I go to the store and see her cds on display and I see the Crystal Visions cd and the picture of her from the 80's on it...and know that the songs are her greatest hits...again. Wouldn't it be so cool if that cd with her picture from the 80's had some piano demos on it? Or other rarities? Instead, it has Talk to Me and Stand Back, again. So many people don't know about Stevie's gems and I think that's sad.

Stevie should have released the Melbourne concert with the Symphony Orchestra on dvd.

Stevie should have done a live album by now.

Stevie needs to get Belle Fleur out of the vault.

Her official website needs an uplift.

Now the living room below...that's what I imagined Stevie's house should look like!

Hi No Light,
I agree with much of what you've said and you've expressed your thoughts accurately and respectfully. I especially like this comment:

I believe there is a huge missing piece in Stevie's life story that she has not captured well in either her writing or any of the "historical" perspective she puts forward. She has to know that her loyal fans have heard it all before and would be tired of hearing the same recycled stories with lots of inaccuracies thrown in for whatever reason she chooses to do so. She totally doesn't get the fan experience. I really have to wonder if she's ever asked herself the question, what do they see in me and how have they stood by me through all of the drama and disappointments through the years. The most current example is her hype around this 2013 tour and how wonderful it's going to be. Wonderful for whom? She and Lindsey or the thousands of fans paying money they can't afford to see her put as little effort as possible into songs she's sang thousands of times? This would be a great opportunity for self analysis and ask a few tough questions of herself: what I'm I bringing to the fan's experience and are they getting their money's worth? The toughest question I think is have I earned this loyalty they show me when I've disappointed them too many times to count over the years? The wonderful moments like the Wiltern show are just way to rare to warrant constant attention and shelling out the big bucks. My #1 reason for sitting out this tour.

This. I so agree with this except for one thing. I do think she gets the fan experience or at least she should after all these years. I just think she doesn't care too much anymore. She said to Lindsey (it's in one of the video interviews) that he had this wonderful house because they worked so hard at the coffee plant making demos. I'm sure they did and still do but the main reason why they all live in such wonderful houses is because of us, we buy every record, go to every concert etc. She seems to forget that. I'm sitting this one out too because as you said, she puts as little effort as possible into singing songs she's sang a 1000 times before. I was going to go to the Spokane, WA show because that's closest to me but I'm not going to spend hundreds of dollars on a band whose lead singer (who happens to be my favorite) says she's just standing there, singing her songs and twirls every once in a while. When you say that about your own performance it tells me you don't really care.

I know you've been a fan for as long as I have Debbie. I remember defending her performance in 2009 when fans wrote that she was phoning in her performances. When she recently admitted that it was fact, I was a bit dis- enchanted. The verses of Moonlight are actually "Lady From The Mountain" which was written in like 1974, so I doubt that's how she's feeling now.

Stevie should have released the Melbourne concert with the Symphony Orchestra on dvd.

The reason the Melbourne DVD was never release has nothing to do with her performance, and purely on the fact that Stevie had botox too close to the concert and it's VERY noticeable - she can barely move her face.

It makes me cry almost when I go to the store and see her cds on display and I see the Crystal Visions cd and the picture of her from the 80's on it...and know that the songs are her greatest hits...again. Not sure what songs you expect on a Greatest Hits package. Personally, I'll never tire of "Stand Back" or "Talk To Me" and I have no problem with GH albums, I just wish she'd shake up her live set and add some of those "Greatest Hits" back in. "Rooms on Fire" and "Whole Lotta Trouble" haven't been performed since 2000 and "Talk To Me" hasn't been performed since 1994, yet non-hits like "Enchanted" and "How Still My Love" (not that I don't LOVE those songs) and an abundance of cover songs that she doesn't need to include are always present - why ignore 1/2 your solo career in your set? I don't get it.

As for "hidden gem" collections, she's NEVER going to release her piano demo's - she's expressed her dislike of the bootleg and demo trading online and will keep as many demo's locked away as she can to dip into in the future, when she can be bothered making another album.

I believe also that she is all about the money, unfortunately. I believe after The Dance she saw the fans' demand, realized she could make lots of money, and once she got started she went on for more than 10 years. I think money is very important to her.

Agreed. She'll cash in on ANYTHING. Mick is just the same, hence the constant rehash releases of old material, tour after tour with the same setlist with a 10 year gap between new solo material and NO new Fleetwood Mac album. Where is her desire to create? She's just not interested anymore. Touring with the same sets brings in a LOT of money for something that's easy to do, especially with Fleetwood Mac.

She admitted that her performances were phoned in??? That right there makes me cringe. What's the point of forking out hundreds of dollars when she phones in her performance?! She said that this tour is going to be wonderful but, like someone else mentioned, for who?? For the audience or for her & Lindsey? I didn't go to any of the shows in 2009 but from what I saw on youtube she looked totally bored, she hardly moved.

Fans who were at the Melbourne show noted that there wasn't a full film crew there -- only a couple of video cameras for use on the projection screens. And when Stevie re-did two songs ("Outside The Rain" and "Dreams") after the show, she didn't even bother to change back from her "Beauty And The Beast" gown to the outfit she was wearing earlier in the show.

This implies to me that it was only the audio they were interested in recording.

Do I believe the woman likes being rich? Of course I do. But 40 years in, I'm not sure why she has to keep proving to people that it's about more than just the money for her.

She could have easily sold off her publishing rights for millions and retired years ago, if that's all she cared about. Meanwhile, she's still recording (17 songs over the past few years) and writing.

I agree with you, Rhiannondon'tgo and Mike^^^

You know, I posted awhile back on this topic "Stevie in it for the $". I don't believe this is ALL true. I truely believe that Stevie likes being in a "live" RnR band, she has told us this numerous times, and I don't doubt it. Am I naive to believe that she doesn't like to earn money? Hell no, and I don't fault her for it.

She could very well call FM quits and be done. Do her "side" work and be fulfilled artistically and finacially. I may be alone in this opinion, but I believe Stevie can not/will not let go of Mac. She will never be able to face "Yesterday's Gone" when it comes to the band. There is her love affair with the past, the band's legacy, and the bands members (read into what you like) that will always draw Stevie back in.

Aside from this fact, I do believe she considers her bandmates her long-term friends, which she should. She has this need to be needed and helpful. Stevie sees this as an opportunity to make some money, (hopefully) have some fun, and also help her mates out in the process. Let's not even bring up the fact that Jess and Barbara fixed her and Chris up pretty nicely in recent years.

I think that she gets alot of flack for "doing it for the money" b/c she will not/is not interested in creating a new album with Mac. It's not as if Stevie has a house full of children/teens and another mortgage to pay off or even a brand new restaurant in Maui. Stevie is stepping up to the mike to help her old mates out. Of course, she is doing it for the money and the spotlight, too. But she is doing it with an open heart and is genuinely concerned for her friends.

Her heart is in the right place, even if she just "phones" in her performances...all that tells me, as a fan is that she often has true intentions in the "grand idea" of things and gets bored very easy when the band tours for a whole year or so.

For me. at least, the "in it for the money" thing is a result of her reluctance to record. She let 4 years pass between The Dance and TISL, content to cruise on a retrospective - Enchanted. She let 9 years elapse between TISL and IYD, content to cruise on two retrospectives - Soundstage and Crystal Visions. She now balks at recording with FM. During all this time, she has toured, making money off of the concerts. If, as many here seem to agree, there is no money in recording, then that is probably why she is so unproductive, and prefers to tour. Therefore she is in the business for the money. All this is just fine as a business model. But touring and singing the same songs over and over for decades is not making art. Art implies creation, and that implies new music.

'Enchanted' was a contractual obligation -- the record company was going to put it out whether Stevie was involved or not, so she choose to be involved to make the package something special. As such, we got tons of rare photos, lyrics to every song, and an entire disc of tracks that never appeared on one of Stevie's albums.

Once the 'Enchanted' promotion and tour was wrapped up, she went right into working on 'TISL.' As Sheryl Crow was Stevie's choice for producer, she had to work around Sheryl's own recording & touring schedule. When they saw that it was taking too long to finish Stevie's album, John Shanks was brought in to help finish it (as was David Kahne and Pierre Marchand).

And don't forget that, between 'TISL' and 'IYD,' we got 10 new Stevie songs with Fleetwood Mac.

Meanwhile, both 'Soundstage' and 'Crystal Visions' might not have included any newly-penned songs, but she did put a personal effort into making both packages stand out.

Mind you -- I'm not saying that there wasn't way too long of a gap between new songs for my taste. I just think we should remember that Stevie wasn't at home with her feet up on the couch the entire time.

During all this time, she has toured, making money off of the concerts. If, as many here seem to agree, there is no money in recording, then that is probably why she is so unproductive, and prefers to tour. Therefore she is in the business for the money. She's in her mid-60s (the same age as my father, who's retired) -- I think she's earned the right to rest on her laurels a little, without having her artistic integrity called into question. Like I said in my previous post, I would have thought all those years of writing like mad and recording tons of material -- not to mention her renewed creativity -- should be enough proof to fans that she's not "all about the money."

Sure... but a hell of lot of performers slow down in their 50s & 60s. Especially if they kept the pace that Stevie did for a couple of decades.

My point was that she -- in my opinion -- has more than earned the right to not have her artistic integrity questioned, even if she never records another song. She's paid her dues and she certainly shouldn't have to keep proving herself to anyone at this stage.

Exactly, it's not about the money for new recordings, most of that goes straight to the big record company anyway . Stevie's far from ignorant, and must know, at her age, her selling marketability is limited. Sure, a hit single will sell more concert tickets, but Stevie is already a proven commodity. So while IYD may not have been cash cow, platinum selling album for Stevie, it was far from a flop. It was a creative resurgence, not only for Stevie, who had long started peppering her set-list with numerous covers to avoid sleep-walking through her set. But more importantly for her fans! "In Your Dreams" single-handidly reaffirmed and revitalized her hardcore fans who were beginning to grow weary & unimpressed (myself included) If it weren't for the hundreds of bootlegs to sustain my interest for over 15 years and IYD hadn't come along when it did, I would have lost interest @4 years ago, after the "Greatest Hits" w/ a deep cut or two thrown in - Unleashed concert tour of 09'. This coming from a fan of over 30+ years!

Hi On Ice! I'm sorry it's taken so long for me to get back to you.

If this happened, if she got real with herself and us, we would see a different Stevie Nicks. I think that because she gets so much love from us that she thinks we love EVERYTHING she does. She gets our approval at every show. But when it comes to asking us how we feel...she doesn't ask us. And we can't ask her because there is no way to ask her. She sings for us but won't talk to us.

This changed when she recently did the q and a's for the doc, and talked to the fans. For the first time, she addressed us. This, after no other way to contact her. Had I been there, I would have told her about my love for some of her demos. I would not have cared about her reaction. I would have been nervous. But I would still tell her.

At these q and a's she admitted that she knows we would love a piano and Stevie tour, no other instruments. She said it would be great, but not practical.

I think it's easier for her to do the same songs because it's less work for her. I think her concerts are easy money for her...she knows what to do. Is she milking us? Sometimes, when I look at it, yes, she is milking us.

I think it's all about respect. Does she respect us? At the q and a for the doc, in the video I saw of the event, at the end when fans are outside waiting for her to exit the theater, she walks right by them and gets into her SUV. In my opinion, she could have stopped and talked with them. They were few in number. But she just got into her car with Karen. These fans are the ones who make sure Stevie has a nice house to live in. I would think that she would take the time to greet them. I've seen and heard of this behavior of her's way too much by other fans and it disappoints me no end. I've heard of people coming from out of state to a show and standing in the cold. She lets them stand there.

To defend Stevie on this, she learned how to tour from Fleetwood Mac. And being in a huge band, they, I guess, didn't stop to greet fans as much. I am guessing. So she doesn't do it in her solo career either.

Stevie made it known at the q and a's, that she knows what we want. She knows we want to hear different songs. She knows we want more new material. I guess it's just a matter of doing it. She knows some of us want to hear Sisters of the Moon at this coming concert.

We love Stevie too much to miss a show, either hers or FM's. But what other way can it be shown her that we are tired of the same ol'? I guess if we stopped paying for the same show?

I don't blame you for sitting out this coming show. I sat out the IYD shows after her mom died.

In the end, I agree with you that she doesn't get the fan experience, our experience. I also think it's about laziness. It's about singing Landslide over and over. It's about not respecting us, her fans.

The verses of Moonlight are actually "Lady From The Mountain" which was written in like 1974, so I doubt that's how she's feeling now.

The reason the Melbourne DVD was never release has nothing to do with her performance, and purely on the fact that Stevie had botox too close to the concert and it's VERY noticeable - she can barely move her face.

Lady from the Mountain in the 70's, 80's, did not have the lyrics: "She's lonely, lost, disconnected. She finds no comfort in her surroundings. Beautiful, insecure, she has nothing. She moves from situation to situation like a ghost." These are new lyrics she added to it.

As for Melbourne, I'm going to agree with Johnny Stew who said it was probably meant more for audio, because yes, at the end she didn't change out of her B and B outfit for Dreams and Outside the Rain. As for her botox, what a time to get it when you do an album with an orchestra!!! Another miss in Stevie's career.

When it comes to the Crystal Visions cd, I just wish that the picture on the cover would match the music inside. The 80's picture would better match either a live album, or a rarities album. Not another greatest hits, which is all Stevie knew how to do before IYD.

As for her ignoring the other half of her solo career, good question. She could do Smile At You live now! Even though it's on SYW, she could do it solo! Why not?

Yeah, she won't release the piano demos. And as a result, lots of people don't know what Stevie is capable of! SO many beautiful songs, all collecting dust in her vault.

Too bad that a creative resurgence has to come so late and so many years from other original material. The long dry periods make her lose fans and every new album, which appears 7 to 10 years after the last, has to be some re-entry or comeback. IYD came so many years after TISL. And she was 63 years old. I mean, come on. Now I am back to bootlegs and unreleased demos...

I think she does not care about the money. She just loves touring. She does not care who she is touring with as we see in the past years with Don Henley.Tom Petty.Sheryl Crow ,Chris Isaak ,Rod Stewart and Dave Grohl and who ever else I forgot to mention. .She just loves touring and seeing our faces for the millionth time.

If her solo shows and FM shows start showing that nobody showing up for the concerts. Then she got to make a change or retire.

So far her shows and FM shows are still selling tickets for these greatest hits tours in the last few years.

I know the shows sound like a broken record when Stevie/FM plays the same stale set lists."Pun intended"I just enjoy seeing her in person. We are all getting older.I don't know how many more years we can do this.

~ I have a very odd love/hate feeling about Go Your Own Way. Most of the time I literally hate the guts out of it and I literally can't sit through it without getting furious and changing it. It literally pisses me off to no end!! But every once in a while I like to turn up my stereo and just dance around my room in a oblivion it on full blast. It's not that I don't think its an amazing song, I know it is! It's probably their second best (matter of opinion) aside from Dreams, but I personally don't like it very much.

~There are times when I almost maybe like Wild Heart as much as Bella Donna

~ I personally think In Your Dreams is very overrated. It's a great album but overall i prefer TISL over it.

~I wish Stevie would have done Sorcerer on her own, because I think Sheryl wrecked it. I don't like the way their voices sound together at all.

~I would replace any song off of OSOTM except Doing The Best That I Can for Thousand Days. It is Stevie's best demo in my opinion. (Maybe tied with Blue Lamp)

~I prefer the backstage of the Rolling Stone shoot version of Wild Heart more than the actual recording, I find it quite boring. The lyrics are awesome! But I find it quite blah

~This is more of a Mick confession here, but I personally think that Stevie really just thinks of him as a really good friend. But I think that Mick still loves Stevie, not enough to do anything about it, I think he knows that she's happy with things are, plus he's probably a little scared of Lindsey (:P who wouldn't be, I would!)

~I am a HUMUNGOUS BN shipper, and I would give my life for them to be back together. But I honestly believe that they will never be back together again. I don't even think they'll have another affair (lol i just made them sound like sluts, didn't mean for it to sound that way!) I really can't see it happening. Lindsey is somewhat happy with Kristen (for some f***ed up reason) and if Stevie has made it this far without giving in to him, I'm sure she can go longer. It really upsets me to think of this, but really don't think they have a future together.

~I just want to warn people that I am NOT trying to offend anyone, and this is just simply my opinion based on what I have gathered. I think that there is MUCH more that Stevie hasn't told us. Mainly for the purpose of saving Lindsey's ass and obviously because it's quite personal.
I think that Stevie left Lindsey because he was abusive to her. As we all know drugs made him a little crazy, and they broke up right around the recording of Rumours, right? Right around when the cocaine started going around. I think he was already getting on her nerves (and vice versa) and when he started getting violent she finally said that's enough and broke up with him. I have no proof that he did so, and I'm not some sick person who wants to believe he caused her harm or grief, but that's my opinion. If he did it to Carol during the recording of Rumours (based on what I read in Ken's book), I don't see why he didn't to Stevie. Even is he did, we'll never know for sure because Stevie's not really the gossip type, they've kind of settled a truce. Besides why do we need to know this, its not our buisness. Ms. Nicks is probably hiding quite a bit of things from us. I guess it's better that way.

Hello all,

I'm new here, although I've followed this forum for some time, and this thread was definitely one of my favorites and I enjoyed reading the comments. On that note, my two cents:

* I like "Lady From The Mountain" and I like "Moonlight (A Vampire's Dream)". But it really bothers me she took from one to make the latter. "Lady" is one of her best unreleased demos and, to me, it was painfully sacrificed for "Moonlight" and that doesn't sit well with me.

* Speaking of demos, I think it's absolute sin "Sanctuary" was never officially released on any of her early albums. That is one good song! God help me if she ever sacrifices it for parts for another NEW song.

* I really like "IYD", but a lot of the songs have a very similar sameness structurally that strays from Stevie's other solo albums. I also really like Dave Stewart, but as soon as I heard him sing with Stevie, it was ruined.

* While she performs them well, it really irritates me that "Rock and Roll" and "I Need To Know" are staples in her concerts. I'd rather those two spots were used for HER songs.

* I miss manic performing Stevie over the more subdued performing Stevie.

* The Dance's "Silver Springs" was hair-raising perfection. I cannot listen to the version done during the SYW tour. It was done so rushed, especially the ending, and passionless.

* "Thrown Down" and "Destiny Rules" are among her top best songs ever.

* I love "When I See You Again."

* "Listen To The Rain" is a great rockin' song. It would be amazing live.

* "Say You Will" would be a great song if there was more to it (more verses and cut back the chorus that goes on and on and on. And on.)

* I disagree when she's referred to "Fall From Grace" as "the meanest song I've ever written" unless there's some hidden reference in it we're not privy to. IMO she's done far meaner, biting songs like "Smile At You."

* Her brother did her a huge disservice with the tour books he oversaw. They are garbage!

* On the superficial end: She looked HOT rockin' the black pants at the start of the "Soundstage" show, and wearing a red dress with long sleeves at the Filmore. Best hair was in the "Talk To Me" video (sitting on the floor in the gray dress); hate the reeboks, suede platforms way sexier although I'm sure they kill. And not digging the big square sunglasses of late.

I Need to Know didn't even bother me so much until the end, but I'm glad it's gone now. In the early days I loved it.

Rock and Roll kills me. I hate it. I just want to snatch that feather right out of her top hat.

Rock a Little, OSOTM and SA are some of the best, as well as Desert Angel.
The super popular singles are some of my least favorite.
She should hire me to play keyboard in her band! ;)

- I think Rock A Little is her worst album, far worse than Street Angel.
- Trouble In Shangri-La is hands down my favorite album of hers, beating Bella Donna.
- For What It's Worth is probably her worst single release of all time. How it got picked over something like In Your Dreams or Ghosts Are Gone is beyond me.
- I cannot stand her solo versions of Fleetwood Mac songs, or Waddy's playing of them (especially Gold Dust Woman).

Those are the only I can think of that'd probably make people raise eyebrows at me. lol

I have five unpopular Stevie opinions. uht-oh.

1.) Stevie is not a prolific songwriter. In fact, she only writes once in a blue moon. She writes maybe 2 songs per year.

2.) Along those same lines, she has almost completely lost her confidence in her ability to write new songs. New songs. Literally almost 100% lost it.

3.) Despite sincere, best efforts, Stevie has little understanding on a deep level of how hard most people work. I feel she sort of understands it in a "basic" way but she doesn't actually "get" it. i.m.o. you can tell this from several interviews - perfect example, how "spotless" the house where she worked as a cleaning lady was - how "hard" she worked at that job - - the guy eventually commented on it and said the reality was she did a very poor job and anybody else probably would have fired her.

4.) I think Stevie is a lot more "self-educated" than she might "pretend" to be - - I think overall, she's a VERY bright person and I think she reads a lot. It's very easy to find photos where she's either carrying a book or has one near her. :D

5.) I think Stevie's a lot more business-savvy than people realize - for example the house she recently sold in Pacific Palisades, where she claimed it was because there were "ghosts" haunting the house that were scaring her. I think that was just Stevie being Stevie, playing up her "image," and I think the place was almost 100% a real estate investment for her - throw it on the pile, ka-CHING, Bay-bee! And I feel less-certain of this part but I think the image-building with "seeing ghosts" goes all the way back to the early '80s - she claimed in one of her first interviews as a solo artist that she had "seen ghosts" in her hotel room but I wouldn't be surprised if that was again totally for publicity. I think these things may have even been the record company's idea, rather than her own. But Stevie's been at this a LONG time and she knows how to "work her image." Along those same "practical" lines, I think she also sold the Phoenix house totally or mostly for business reasons - because of the real estate taxes and maintenance - and - I think all of these business things are about one thing only - - creating generational wealth for her niece.

Rock on - just my thoughts - nobody's perfect.

ps - to be more accurate, imo she publishes one or two songs, on the average, per year. I love many of the demos but in a way it seems it doesn't count in terms of being "prolific," if it's just sitting in a filing cabinet somewhere gathering dust.

Did she recently sell her house? The one she made IYD in? I thought she still owns it, but lives in the condo. Other than the Robin story, I've never heard about her and ghosts. Her Robin story would go well on Celebrity Ghost Stories--Robin rocking Matthew's cradle. This is the only ghost story I've heard from her.

- The Highwayman is my all-time favorite Stevie song. I think it's a masterpiece.
- I've always thought Rhiannon was very over-rated. I love the late 70s live version but other than that I don't understand all the fuss around it.
- I love I Will Run to You.
- For What It's worth sucks. IMO the worse song on IYD.
- I prefer the TISL version of Sorcerer to the Rumours demo.
- I love Sheryl Crow's production on TISL.
- I don't mind Jane. I'm a big fan of Jane Goodall, so I'm kinda biased :D
- I don't like her new voice nearly as much as her old one.

It may be that she tried to sell it and then took it back off the market. Yes, I recall interviews not long after she bought it and she expressed buyer's remorse saying she bought it because when she saw it the previous owners were still in it and it had all the trappings of a happy family living in it.... but then of course they moved out and it was her and whoever living there and the house suddenly felt too big and empty and etc and so she wanted to sell it. Here's a real estate article from 2007 that mentions that the house was on the market and the ghosts: http://realestalker.blogspot.nl/2007/12/your-mama-hears_14.html
This is the interview with Stevie from 2007 that bombaysaffires is referring to (I think): http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/3667803/Stevie-Nicks-a-survivors-story.html
'I saw it, and there was this big family living here that obviously loved it. So there was a vibe here. And something in me thought, maybe I can have that. I was not here three days before I thought, what the hell do I here? I was too shallow and stupid to realise that it wasn't the house I'd fallen in love with but the mom and the dad and the four kids, and the smells of the cooking.' She sighs. It is, she reflects, a house 'for adults. And even though I'm pushing 60 I don't feel that I'm that old yet.'

It's obvious she loves the money. She loves the expensive jewelery, the houses, the private jets, etc. she's admitted before that she loves the lifestyle that being a rock star has afforded her over the years. She friggin' loves being a celebrity and all the adoration she gets from being who she is. I call bull crap to pretty much any rich rock star who says they don't care about the money. It's always after they make the big bucks that they supposedly don't care about the money anymore. Stevie wouldn't head out with Fleetwood Mac if she didn't want all those millions in her bank at the end of it. I honestly don't blame her. It must be fun to have tens of millions of dollars in your bank and another fat cheque to cash at the end of a tour. Her main income now is from touring, hence why she's toured solidly for over a decade now. She's getting the money in before she's too old to go out.

I cant blame her for not producing new stuff solo and with Mac.Why bother .Radio stations don't give a rats a$$ about putting older artists on their playlists and also Stevie opinion about internet freeloaders stealing her works.

I'm sorry but there is no excuse for such a self-proclaimed prolific songwriter to go ten years without releasing a studio album. The whole argument of internet freeloaders is utter crap. She should want to make a new album because she wants to create new music. It all goes back to the money. Countless other acts her age and older are consistently releasing new music and not getting radio play. She needs to realise that it's not the 1980s anymore and the days of million-selling albums and major radio hits are over for her. I would bet good money we don't get a follow-up to In Your Dreams for at least another 2-3 years. She seemed so re-energized and inspired after In Your Dreams came out and she should have take advantage of that. She should have taken a short break after the tour had finished and headed back into the studio to record the follow-up. We could have had a new album this year instead of yet another FM greatest hits tour.

The fact that she toured pretty much consistently for nearly 10 years without a brand new album hasn't done her any favours. She shouldn't simply stick to performing the same songs just because it keeps the crowds coming. She has a huge back catalogue to choose from but continues to ignore about 90% of it. Stevie actually has trouble selling out a lot of these big arenas by herself. She tends to sell well in smaller amphitheatres/arenas but even then many of them aren't sold out. And don't even get me started on her continuing to ignore Europe when it comes to solo shows. That is unforgivable as far as I'm concerned. She can kiss my ass if I'm paying expensive airfare to go and see her across the other side of the world.

TheSorcerer, I agree with you on so many points. This 2013 tour is another greatest hits tour. Other than the 4 new songs, nothing is different. They won't have to give much effort on songs they have sung over and over. So it will be easy money. And that's what makes me most angry. Even Not That Funny is so condensed that not much effort is put into it. Sisters...it was ok, but could use more drama. Without You was great, and can't wait to hear more BN stuff. Sad Angel was also great. I wish they would just make an album. But as for songs they have already done...like I said, easy money.

It's too bad then. Because the true fans' requests are being ignored. I don't think they'd be lined up and shot if they didn't do Gold Dust Woman and Landslide and all the others they over do.

On the contrary, I think if they did different songs, people's interest in them would grow and they would want to find out more about FM. They'd go on ITunes and look up their catalogue.

As it is now, all anyone has to do is buy a Greatest Hits cd and be done with it.

Totally agree. It makes no sense to me that 99% of concert-goers would want to hear the same songs over and over again. I mean, this tour is basically the SYW DVD with a few tweaks here and there. The SYW DVD itself was The Dance without Christine.
If 99% of concert-goers really are only interested in hearing Rhiannon and GYOW for the zillionth time then I'm going to start losing my respect for FM fans.

I get your point, but disagree, somewhat.

The audience is quieter because they are listening instead of singing along (well, sometimes). They are less enthused afterwards because the song did not connect with them emotionally, and it can't, until they know it better. Once a song has that emotional connection with fans, or is associated with a time or place or memory, then it can be a concert staple that is welcomed by the casual fan.

Stevie just mistakes a lack of emotional connection for disinterest. Fans can't establish memories and feelings about songs if they don't hear them.

I am so sick of hearing Landslide. If I never hear it again that would not be a problem.

I thought RAL was better than WH.

I like Edge, but I don't love it as much as most fans do. It wouldn't even rank in my top 20 favorite Stevie solo songs. I prefer Bring on the Night (the Police song she kinda took the guitar riff from) much more.

I wish every Stevie interview wasn't always centered around her previous drug problems (that might not be an unpopular opinion).

I liked WTTRS and WISYA much more than Seven Wonders.

Stevie had some great songs on Tusk (Storms, SOTM and Sara), but it was Lindsey and Christine's songs that really made me love that album.

I prefer SA over OTOSOTM.

Stevie was really sexy during the Tango era.

The lyrics to her more recent songs (except for some on SYW) do not touch me as deeply as the lyrics from her older material.

That's all I have got now!

RAL is one of her most listenable albums start to finish, it's got such great energy.

All I hear when I listen to Edge is Jimmy Iovene trying to make Stevie "rock" so men will accept her. Don't get me wrong, it's a fine song- it just doesn't seem entirely true to who Stevie is.

I adore SA... I think it has some of the strongest, most grounded, straight-forward rock & roll songs of Stevie's career. Yes, it's got some turds, but all Stevie albums do.

And that's entirely the bands fault. They've been out on the road four times since 1997 (including the tour this year) and three of those tours have primarily been greatest hits tours with no new studio album to promote. Even when they did tour behind Say You Will they ignored a good portion of that album and dropped several of the new tracks after so many dates. I saw them in the UK and I can count on one hand the amount tracks from SYW that were included in the set list. How are people supposed to accept new songs or more obscure album tracks and singles if the band themselves don't give the majority of them a chance? It's great that they've included a couple of new songs and a few "surprises" this year but there's still the same old mainstays being performed alongside them. People only expect to hear certain songs because the band never give them a rest.

They could drop the following:

Sara (as much as I love the song)
Gyspy
I'm So Afraid
Stand Back
Never Going Back Again
Silver Springs

and replace with any of the following:

I Don't Want to Know - (this would get a great response purely because it's on Rumours)
Blue Letter
Crystal - (this could easily replace NGBA. Stevie and Lindsey could duet with just an acoustic guitar)
That's Alright
Seven Wonders - (this would probably get a great response, especially in Europe, because it's on TITN and was a top 20 hit in the US)
Frozen Love
Tango in the Night - (could replace ISA)
Destiny Rules

They could easily shake up their set list more than they have and still please the audience. It's their own problem that they find themselves a hits touring band today. It's like they've been touring behind The Dance for 16 years. They're as bad as The Eagles and Cher.

But they can't drop I'm So Afraid. A Fleetwood Mac show without ISA wouldn't be a Mac show to me. Same goes for Silver Springs, huge crowd pleaser. Sara, Gypsy, NGBA, SB could be dropped and replaced with the songs you've mentioned. I would love to hear Frozen Love and IDWK would certainly be a hit with everyone (the die hards and the casuals). I would love to hear TITN, it's such a dark & dramatic song. Or maybe they should bring back Come. I miss that one.

Yeah, it's really not the clunker everyone makes it out to be. I think a lot of the fans hate it because Stevie hates it. If you listen to the album objectively, it's no worse than OSOTM or even RAL. RAL is my least favorite Stevie album mainly because I'm not a fan of the 80's cheesey synth sound. I think that was her least focused album next to SA.

I LOVE Desert Angel
Street Angel is one of her better albums - her voice, writing and back to guitar rock
The Other Side of the Mirror -is an amazing album
Rock a Little is not only the worst Stevie album but one of the worst albums of the entire 80's decade
I miss the coked out and rambling Stevie live on stage
All of her songs on Say You Will are epic
Her voice after 1995 is flat
Her tours in the 2000's were not worth seeing - too short and same songs in short setlists
I don't care for 24k Gold or In Your Dreams

HMMMmmm - UH-oh! Well - at the risk of being slammed - and I'm just being completely honest -

1.) I think she was a little silly for putting "That Made Me Stronger" on "Trouble in Shangri-la."

2.) I think she sometimes misperceives how hard she works, compared to the "average person." But I feel she's VERY clear on how rough most people's lives are.

3.) I think things sometimes seem much bigger to her than they really are.

4.) I don't think she would ever, ever, ever want to get back together with
Lindsey. Not in a million years.

5.) I think she's still in love with Mick, always has been, and always will be.

6.) I think she didn't actually like Prince all that much.

7.) Not like I think she's Einstein or something, but I think that in interviews she often hides how intelligent and practical she is, although I think she's been a little better about that lately.

8.) I think she's currently doing an unbelievably intense media blitz in Australia with the sole purpose of subtley re-defining her image, headed up by Liz Rosenberg, who by the way was or is Madonna's publicist as well.
She's a total "Top Gun," doesn't come cheap, and I think there's HUGE amounts of effort and thought that are going into this behind-the-scenes.

9.) I think that, although she may still feel somewhat sad, she's having an absolute blast in Australia and absolutely loves it there. And so, along those lines -

10.) I think she's VERY seriously considering moving to Australia. Not necessarily as a primary residence - I guess she considers Phoenix to be home - but I betcha she's been looking at some real estate ads.

11.) I think she still smokes, but is trying not to and doesn't want others to follow her example.

12.) I think that when she's not touring or doing business-related things, when she's at home watching tv or reading or something, she TOTALLY forgets she's a "big rock star" and just kinda chills, no mysticism, no "etherealness," no chiffon, no nuthin' - just this nice lady watching star trek or reading a book or whatever.

13.) Believe it or not, I think maybe she knows how to use a vacuum cleaner and boil water...

14.) Not necessarily an "unpopular" one but - I think she knows how to ski and enjoys it, or at least used to.

15.) I think sometimes she'd much rather be riding a horse or hanging out on a boat than singing "Stand Back" for the ten billionth time in concert. And I think she's so sick of performing "Gold Dust Woman" that she's about to spit.

16.) I think when photographers aren't around, her house is a mess, always has been, always will be.

Please. )

Welp - you asked!

I guess my unpopular opinion is that Stevie doesn't owe fans anything other than to be polite if you meet her in person. I think it's wonderful that she is doing what she wants to do at this stage of her life, just like Christine got to do what she wanted to do when she took off for all those years, and like Lindsey did what he wanted when he took off after Tango in the Night. I would love more solo music and more FM music but it has to be on Stevie's terms. I disagree that she is not creative...her "public" creativity is just shifting right now from writing new music to focusing on her performing. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Many performers don't write their own music, including "classic" rock stars, not just the current pop singers. I have seen Stevie perform live in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2016 and I think she is better every time, so something is working. She had more energy in the 2016 show that I have ever seen, and I am thrilled for her and hope this next leg is even more successful.

I say "public" creativity because we actually don't know what she is doing writing wise...we know she wrote Games of Thrones poetry after her mother died and she must not be ready to turn these poems into music and share them with the world. I work with novelists, memoirists, biographers, and playwrights in my day job and the creative process is different for every person. As fans we can disagree and/or be disappointed, but at the end of the day the artists call the shots. No one is forcing us to buy their music/books or attend their shows, so both "sides" have some "power."

Totally agree, I was going to post this.

I'm sure Stevie loves Christine but I don't think she was all that excited about her return; especially the timing right after they'd just done the 2013 tour.

Stevie is quite arrogant and prefers to associate with other famous people. She's happy to rub elbows with "fans" like Katy Perry and Lady Gaga, but rarely does she give the average working-class Joe fan the time of day.

Stevie's life has slowed down a ton since her heyday and as a result, she has little to write about anymore. This is a huge factor in her decision to not release more new material.

I don't think Stevie particularly enjoys being part of Fleetwood Mac these days, but she probably figures she's too old to quit and doesn't want to look like the bad guy.

I love Stevie's cover of "Crash Into Me" and wouldn't mind if she brought it back into her set.

Six years later and I've never been able to really get into IYD.

I don't think Stevie should have included The Dealer on 24K unless she had taken the time to record a better vocal.

Mabel Normand, while I never cared much for the demo, has turned out to be one of my all time favorites.

Welcome to the Room Sara is worse than When I See You Again.

The RAL verion of Mirror, Mirror is great and should have been on an album.

I have very little interest in anything Stevie related from 1987 to 1994 (the Klonopin years?)

I have never much liked SDMHA and think I Will Run To You is a much superior song.

Buckingham Nicks shipping is very boring and irrelevant these days. I don't really think Stevie sits around pining for Lindsey, nor vice versa. I don't think they speak or see each other outside of FM related business, actually.

I think it's totally possible that Stevie and Karen are "together" and have been for a long time.

There is a meaningful difference between hatefulness and honesty.

Granted being honest can be seen as rude, so if you were to say you thought some of the posts were rude (in the American sense of rude--i.e., impolite) I'd agree. Many of these thoughts are things you would keep to yourself to be polite. But then this particular thread is clearly titled as "unpopular opinions". Think of it as also covering indelicate opinions, impolite opinions and such.

Some opinions, to your point, are indeed unkind and perhaps are even meant to be hurtful or spiteful because people don't like Stevie. It is kind of weird that people who don't like her would hang out here, but there you go.

I guess the only solution is for those who find things like unpopular or impolite or indelicate opinions is to not read those sorts of threads.

True.

As a woman without kids, I have to say this notion that we all must be terribly jealous of people with children is rather insulting. I personally see children as a burden and do not want any (gasp, shock, horror).

Some women do not wish to have children. Some women just aren't cut out to be mothers.

I'm not saying this to defend Stevie; I'm saying this because it's a reality for many women in today's world. You can have families with having children; you can be perfectly fulfilled without having children.

Let's put away this antiquated notion that all women are desperate to be mothers, shall we?

you mean they are the Oprah and Gayle of rock n roll??

I had assumed that as a possibility ever since I first watched Destiny Rules, and I never even realised they were living together.

I never got the hype about the Wild Heart dressing room version.

In addition to looking happy, she's very girlish and cute in that blurry vid. Not sure if that was part of the appeal. Watching it again now, I note that the background music sounds a lot like Lindsey's "Can't Go Back."

Since Stevie and Mick (and to a somewhat lesser extent Lindsey) are so on the nose around here these days, I think a similar thread to this but about Christine or John would be more interesting.

Stevie and Lindsey both have deep rooted feelings for each other.
I don't think it's "in love" though.
I think it's a result of breaking up over 40 years ago and being forced to work and tour together the past few decades.
Neither ever had a chance to have proper closure.
I can't imagine having a massive break-up, and having to see and work with this person every day.
In real life, you break-up and if it's a nasty break-up, you avoid that person and move-on..
In their case, they were in the position of being in one of the biggest rock bands, so it wasn't really possible to "move-on."
Lindsey eventually married and had kids, but he's always had resentment towards Stevie and vice versa.
I really don't think Stevie is jealous of not ever having children though.
She isn't the mother type.
Not all women or men feel like their lives are not whole without children.
I knew from the time I was a teen, I wasn't going to be a father, and never had the urge to have one, adopt one etc

I think Rhiannon should be remade with a Celtic sound. She could put in violins and tin whistles and those things that look like tambourines but don't have any symbols that you bang the inside of with your hand. She could even sing some of the lyrics in Welsh. That'd be epic.

I really enjoy "Street Angel" as an album. Granted, I have to listen to edited version of it, but I think there's a lot of potential in it.

I can't stand 24KG. It's a lazy effort and sounds half finished, especially with the horribly distorted vocals.

I can't remember the last time I actively listened to "Landslide".

Stevie's solo version of "Crystal" from the Practical Magic soundtrack is better than both the Buckingham Nicks and Fleetwood Mac versions.

"The Nightmare" should've never been recorded. It's a heap of incoherent rambling with no melody over what sounds like somebody kicking a Yamaha DX7 down a flight of stairs.

Her solo setlists are boring and predictable and have been for years. Come on, Stevie, stop ignoring half your back catalogue.

My favourite ever Stevie vocals are all on Mirage. Whilst they may not be my favourite songs, "That's Alright", "Gypsy" and "Straight Back" are perfect vocal performances. Which is why it upsets me that she sounded so dreadful on the Mirage and Wild Heart tours.

I'm pretty sure she's bonked every single one of her producers, including Sheryl Crow.

Also, another unpopular opinion around here at the moment is tha despite the debacle with Fleetwood Mac, I STILL LOVE STEVIE NICKS.

I have zero interest in whatever firing and lawsuits are happening with any of her current of past bandmates. Don't care. At all. I love her music and always will, that is what matters to me the most. Her songs will always be with me because they have been such a prominent part of my life for so many years, I wouldn't be me without them.

Also I prefer Stevie solo to Fleetwood Mac anyway. :sorry:

TheWildheart, I still dig Stevie Nicks as well. And I think she NAILS Black Magic Woman on the latest Fleetwood Mac outing. I am not happy about all the firing/lawsuits/misery either. Yet I will see Fleetwood Mac in it's latest incarnation. And I will see Lindsey solo. I will see Stevie solo. I don't know if those two can ever meet up again- yet stranger things have happened.

You hang around long enough, you'll see all kinds of things that seemed impossible. Here's one: People here swore Christine was NEVER coming back and used to badger people on The Ledge for daring to bring the matter up. (You know who you are, badgers!)

But I would see Stevie in a house, I would see Stevie with a mouse. I would see her here or there - I would see her anywhere. I would see her on a boat, I would see her- she's the GOAT! (Greatest of All Time?) I know that's over the top, but I will vote for her to get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just like others, too.

How could you be in a Classic Rock Band for 40 years and not know Black Magic Woman is a Fleetwood Mac song? Especially someone like you who raves she is the first to hear and know every new song that comes out on the radio before the rest of her friend's do. And you bought all the FM albums when you first joined and played them back to front. Surely you would have heard it then and realized it WASN'T a Santana cover.

* "I Don't Want to Know" was a better choice for Rumours than "Silver Springs" (they probably could have done editing here and there to squeeze it onto vinyl but then it would have had too many slow songs).

* "Dreams" should have been dropped from her setlists years ago because it holds no melodic interest without the high notes.

* "Sisters of the Moon" was a poor choice for a single. Who thought that would be a hit?

* "Edge of Seventeen" is tediously long. But I'll listen to the whole thing.

* The Wild Heart is a better album (for me) than BellaDonna.

* "The Highwayman" and another song should have been cut from BD to make way for "Blue Lamp" and "Sleeping Angel."

* Her peak was from 1973 to 1983. There's not much I NEED to listen after that. But I still do sometimes.

* "Nightbird" was a good choice for the third single from WH. But there could have been a fourth.

* "Seven Wonders" is okay but sorta meh due to the coke voice.

* I can completely hear her on "Everywhere."

* The demo of "Ooh My Love" sounds pretty finished and would have been better on Tango than WISYA (she sounds rough on both).

* "No Questions Asked" is actually fairly decent.

* Besides "Juliet," I can't think of a single TOSOM song I would put on a playlist.

* In you think 1987-1994 has more than few redeeming moments, you are highly forgiving and possibly tone deaf.

* The soundtrack version of "Twisted" is clearly the best, and the song should have been left alone after that.

* "You May Be the One" is the best song on In Your Dreams.

* Her singing on much of The Vault is unlistenable. It was fine as background music on my desktop at work, but when I finally listened to songs like "The Dealer" at the gym with headphones, I was like "Holy jeez!"

* I don't blame her for not wanting to work with Lindsey B. ever again (I've seen Destiny Rules). But they just should have dissolved the band quietly.

Agree, I’d probably keep Highwayman but I would definitely axe Think About It and After The Glitter Fades for those two songs or Julia, The Dealer, IYWML, Christian, Sanctuary... She had so many good songs during that era that should have been on BD

OK. There are a lot of really good replies here on this thread.

For me, I actually don't love most of Stevie's post-Mirage FM contributions.... But I do really love "The Second Time" from Behind the Mask for some strange reason.... If she recorded "The Third Time" with the current band, I would probably love that as well... LOL... Did it feel like it was, the third time with you....

Also, I know everyone has opinions about the set list with this 2018 tour with FM.... I wish she would do "For What It's Worth" probably my favorite song from In Your Dreams.... I never got to see that one performed live even though I saw her and Rod Stewart in 2012, it wasn't included in my show. Since Mike Campbell wrote the music, I was hoping it might appear in the set list this year, but that ship has sailed I'm afraid. At least there is youtube for some of the performances from 2011. I'll stop my whining here. LOL

There's only actually 1 vocal take for Seven Wonders. The "early version" and the finished product on Tango are exactly the same recording, but the early version is just the band playing it - drums, bass, guitar, keyboards and a vocal. Then Lindsey and Richard applied all the layers and layers in the studio and sped up the vocal which is why it sounds higher than anything else recorded during that era and also why Stevie can't sing it live because it's naturally too high for her.

Hawkeye

On those few occasions when she sings higher than F4, she makes an offputting braying noise. I can't take it. I actually want her to avoid a higher note. The exception is an acoustic song.

Can you elaborate a little more on this. I have no technical knowledge of vocal notes. Maybe point me to some examples Within certain songs? I really wish I understood that stuff and I should being such a detail oriented fan of hers but I just can’t wrap my head around that. Kind of like Stevie herself I guess.

I actually love her high notes. I would actually venture to say that she was a mezzo soprano in her youth. Had she been in high school choir she probably would've been placed in 2nd soprano.

Stevie nicks lost what melodic and lyric ability she did have around 1981-1982.
Her range in the 70's and the first few years of the 80's made her flaky lyrics palatable and some of her songs even charming.

Since then, her songs' lyrics have become ever more nonsensical, and, with her voice turning more and more into a gravely drone every subsequent year, her music became grating like a dentist drill instead of charming, no matter what producers and arrangers tried to do to salvage it. Even LB.

Brrr.

I don't get the love for The Wild Heart album...

1. Stand Back is a good song but I haven't listened to the album version in years since almost every live version is superior in every way.

2. I Will Run to You has good atmosphere but Stevie doesn't sound great here, doesn't harmonize well with Tom Petty, and it doesn't fit with the rest of the songs on the album.

3. I'm actually a fan of the wannabe-Heartbreaker/E Street thing Stevie was trying to do for a while (Gold & Braid, SDMHA, BL) but I can't jam with Enchanted. Her voice sounds so rough and uninvested, and the lyrics aren't engaging for me. I like the piano but it also doesn't fit with the rest of the album for me. I like some live cuts from around the turn of the millenium though!

4. I love the sentiment of Nightbird... and actually like some of the spacey lyrics.... but I don't think it's executed very well. The drums are lame and it sounds like someone is falling on a keyboard the whole time. Don't care for the vocals either, her voice sounds like it's about to shatter into a million pieces and not in an emotional way. Her vocal when performing the song on Solid Gold is better though! Horrible choice for a third single.

5. If Anyone Falls is a decent song with good lyrics (unfortunate that she didn't write it), a catchy chorus, and a fine vocal delivery but it's got the same problem as Nightbird with the keyboards. I think I may hate Sandy Stewarts playing :(

6. Gate and Garden has great music but cringey lyrics and I don't personally connect with it. I'm glad for the people that do, but it feels like filler. It reminds me of a much inferior Think About It from the previous album, which skirted that same line but came out on the right side where G&G did not.

7. Sable on Blonde is a bright spot on the album for me, even if I always forget about it. It's got a WONDERFUL mood to it, 80s keyboards done RIGHT, and good drumming. I can connect with her vocal a bit better here than on most of the albums songs, even if the lyrics are a bit thick. The vocal blend with the backing singers is absolutely luscious. The alternate version is good too!

8. I love a good Stevie ballad but man I do not get the deal with Beauty and the Beast. The music is pretty if unmemorable and, like many songs on the album, the lyrics are THICK to the point of being impenetrable and impenetrable. She is singing with definite emotion ("Where is my beast?"), but compare this to the similar Storms (very personal lyrics, slow pace, fragile vocals) and it can't stack up. It's okay background music but I can't actively listen to this one.

9. I like Nothing Ever Changes. Her rough vocals go well with a song where she sounds so pissed off and she really brings the anger. Keyboards are cheesy but they go with the heated vibe of the song so they work better for me here. The saxophone is also an odd but welcome addition. Surprised this wasn't the third single and never done live, seems like it'd be fun.

10. The Wild Heart is okay. Decent music, okay vocal, okay lyrics, meandering structure. I could take it or leave it. I'd like it better if Bella Donna and it's title song didn't exist (like a lot of this album). I actually enjoy the session take more by far.

I'd like the album better if I could cut I Will Run to You for Sorcerer and Gate & Garden for Violet & Blue (an amazing song that doesn't get its due credit). I'd also boot Sandy Steward from the studio after nabbing the lyrics to If Anyone Falls and have the music rewritten and played with a different keyboard by a different Keyboardist for both it and Nightbird. I'd also yell at Stevie to get invested in Enchanted and send back for another draft of a couple songs.

Except for the '87 Mac tour! Rhiannon and Gypsy were dropped after the first show or two and Landslide didn't appear at all... actually kind of amazing. Her only mainstays were Dreams and Gold Dust Woman.

Probably the most novel post-Rumours setlist, with her only doing one new song (Seven Wonders), two solo carryovers (Stand Back, HAEWAFY), and a co-lead on one oldie (Don't Let Me Down Again).

I love "Mirror Mirror" and "Real Tears" and think they are better than much of the material on Other Side of the Mirror and Street Angel, respectively.

I think "Dreams" and "Rhiannon" are good songs, but not great ones, and that many of her other songs are far superior.

Everybody around these parts seems to hate on "Talk to Me" and "Stand Back" but I think they rock! "Talk to Me" is what got me into Stevie Nicks back when I was just a kid and didn't have a clue who Fleetwood Mac was.

I love "Paper Doll" (I found out this was unpopular a few months ago).

I liked hearing Stevie talk before "Without You" on the 2013 tour, even if she did go on a bit. I wanted to hear her stories about her life with Lindsey pre-fame.

I don't think anyone else cares about this, but it drives me freaking crazy when Stevie has nonsensical similes, metaphors, and clumsy grammar like "When you lose your sight, love is like a river." What the heck?? And "I think that is the meaning of love, and I'm prepared to kick it." So you're kicking the meaning of love? I call this an unpopular opinion because it's nitpicking - I get that - and most people don't nitpick like this and even condemn it. However, I can't help it!

Yes, it was great hearing it again in the Fleetwood Mac set for us old-timers. And it was well done in those months—with Mick Fleetwood back on the kick drum and cowbell pattern (missing conspicuously from Stevie's solo performances) and Rick Vito adding weird and eerie guitar gunfire during the outro. I think by 1990, it was already starting to get stale in the Mac set, although the different solo bands from 1998 on still gave it energy.

To appeal to me, the song has to go through a slow burn and reach its crescendo, almost like climbing an elaborate staircase. That's my problem with the 1994 performance by her band—the way they played it, it's no more powerful at the end than at the beginning.

My favorite is still the album track. It's amazing, a great work of pop art and a mirror of the soul of Fleetwood Mac, part Appalachian mountain music and part psychedelic folk. It's one of the best album enders of all time. It leaves listeners feeling as if they just heard an album that's even more amazing and uncanny than it is, taken piece by piece, and I think it's one of the unsung reasons why Rumours sold so many gazillions.

Stevie's one chance to live immortally was if she had died on the Rock a Little tour. It would have been a Joplin/Morrison/Hendrix-esque rock and roll event for history. She would be more legendary today, she'd be mythical! Of course, she's mythical and legendary in her own eyes, even as one of the living. But you know what I mean, girls would have shaved their heads in despair and made pilgrimages to Paradise Valley to try to commune with Stevie's energy. But instead of infamy, we got The Other Side of The Mirror.

Thanks a lot, Stevie.

Oh. My. God. Talk to Me is also what turned me into a Stevie fan, which in turn reignited my love for FM. My brothers were almost 10 years older than me, so I grew up loving Rumours. They also had Tusk and Bella Donna, but their copy of Tusk was only played once  and I didn't care for BD at all. So it wasn't until Talk to Me that I became a Stevie fan, which caused me to call in love all over again with FM. What a wacky coincidence Talk to Me helped cement our love for FM!

I thought your last paragraph was hilarious, btw. It might be nitpicking, but you made me laugh AND think! But her nonsensical smilies and metaphors don't bother me as much as lyrics like "the children of the world, the forgotten chimpanzee..."

I'm getting mental images of Valentino's death and Bette Midler's death in The Rose.

But instead of infamy, we got The Other Side of The Mirror.Bummer, that. I hate that psychiatrist almost as much as Stevie does.

The Wild Heart isn't a particularly great album. I think it's 'good' because about half of it is solid enough but to me it was the start of her cranking out some truly terrible songs in her solo career. Stand Back for example, as popular as it may have been back in the day, is honestly one of the worst 80s songs I've ever heard.

If she wasn't in FM....Belladonna wouldn't have seen the light of day. I actually now understand, Mike Campbell aside, why Tom Petty gets the encore at a FM concert.

Gee, Pete(POS),
So you'd rather Stevie died of an overdose in 1986?
Congrats for hitting a new LOW on this board.
Wishing death is disgusting

Oh, aren't we clutching our pearls tightly!

Settle down, he is not wishing death on Stevie. He is just saying that the tragedy of her early death due to drugs would have catapulted her to legendary status ala Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison, etc. For example, Vincent Van Gogh could barely give his paintings away, let alone sell one during his life. But his mythology was born the day he died (under mysterious circumstances) and now he is a household name.

I don't know if I mentioned this before but I'll say it now. I think she needs to ditch the corsets. I think they're actually making her look bigger. She should wear something that sinches in at the chest and then flows out underneath. I think it'd be so much more flattering.

RAL has come full circle for me. I loved it when it first came out and then I shunned it because of its dated production. Today I love it again because, of all her solo albums, it used a wide palette of sounds, traipsed through multiple genres, included original songs and songs written by/with others, etc. It's the album where Stevie really experimented with grooves that would not sound out of place on a Madonna album ("Sister Honey") or an Aretha Franklin album ("Some Become Strangers") or a Eurythmics album ("If I Were You"), as well as a Tom Petty album ("Imperial Hotel") or a Dolly Parton album ("I Sing for the Things"). It's like Stevie's own "Coat of Many Colors." Stevie, nearing middle age, was at the crossroads of her life, her health, her career... and it seemed like she was just throwing all caution to the wind. It's like that final brilliant sunset before the fog of self-doubt, tranquilizers and irrelevance set in.

I really enjoy reading your posts. As soon as you put I Sing For the Things and Dolly Parton in the same sentence, I found myself nodding- that song is not a favorite of mine by any means, but I could totally see Dolly singing this, and well. RAL is the one Stevie album I can pretty much listen to track by track without skipping any songs. Even Sister Honey, as odd as it is, is entertaining. The Wild Heart was kind of dark and somber, while RAL is all over the place- pop, rock, dance, ballad, all present and accounted for. When people say it sounds dated, I think "so what?" So do albums by Madonna, New Kids on the Block, the Beatles, and Michael Jackson. So who cares?

Late to the party, loved reading a lot of these "unpopular Stevie opinions"...I thought I had quite a few (and some of you said variations on them better than I would). Basically, I have one major one.

STEVIE NICKS DIDN'T WRITE "I Don't Want to Know". Maybe it's the other LB/SN co-write (like "Frozen Love") but it only exists in live form from their last shows right before FM and in working versions from the Rumours[I] sessions with LB singing. If other versions exist, let me know and I'll "retract"...

She didn't write it at all. Possible supporting points:
—Her other [I]Rumours era songs were all too long, too (Planets, Dealer)...
—The song that became "The Chain" was obviousy used in that...
—They weren't gonna put "Forest of the Black Roses" on there, that's for sure!
—The other songs BN were working on for their 2nd album got used on the 1975 white album (is it "Lola" that has the guitar part very similar to "The Chain"? That'd be the only thing I can think of from BN that made it as far as 1977)...
—The simplicity of the chords could point to SN, but the simplicity of the lyrics REALLY point to LB ("Holiday Road", "Big Love"...geez, even "In My World"—just three examples of his very sing-songy lyrical sensibility)
—It's the only track not discussed in those Making of Rumours videos (VH1, maybe BBC, too)...
—The "down the line" in both (which is not odd for people who play music together on top of being in a relationship)
—The plain, declarative title could be either of them (her songs got more and more titled like this as the years went on; his were always prosaic (especially on Tusk)

Given that "Silver Springs" was finished and the drama surrounding its removal, I'd say it's a good bet that LB grabbed an old BN number, gave her the writing credit, and that was that.

Anybody know if any of the books about the album mention anything more than the usual story? Some sources say they recorded the entire song, all their parts, before telling her SS was off the record...and..."oh, btw, here's another of yours all ready to sing harmony on..." OKAY. SURE.

STEVIE NICKS DIDN'T WRITE "I Don't Want to Know".

That's a fun speculation (I like the "conspiracy theory" vibe as well).

Not sure I'd agree about this one though. I find the lyrics are rather jam packed into that song, hence being much more like a Stevie penned tune than a Lindsey one to my ears.
And since her earlier 70s songs had a tendency to be much snappier and poppier in their structure than her later songs, I don't think the length is too indicative. (If this song was released in the 80s or today I'd probably raise my eyebrows.) To me it just sounds like a Stevie-penned "Buckingham Nicks" song, which the two-part vocal harmonies play on. Did Lindsey leave a big mark on the instrumentation and arrangement? No doubt.

Edit: I've re-read your post more closely. A BN co-write that Lindsey gave her the credit (incl. songwriter royalties) for in lieu of Silver Springs being bumped. Fair enough--that is a good theory. (I stick by my take on the other points though.)

I'm starting to wonder if Stevie and Lindsey were ever really in a relationship or if its been an act since the very beginning. I find it so hard to believe that these 2 people once loved each other. Especially now.

I bet you're right. I bet this is either Lindsey's song OR it's something they grabbed from the Curtis brothers or somebody similar. Look at the words again. These aren't Stevie's words, they're a guy's words. There's nothing about this on the In Her Own Words (http://www.inherownwords.com/) site. Has she ever talked about this song from a songwriter's perspective?

Stevie Nicks (and many other women songwriters) would never write, "Now you tell me that I'm crazy/It's nothin' that I didn't know" [that's a man's sense of humor] or "I just want you to feel fine" or "Love keeps right on walking on down the line." That's Lindsey (or another guy). Stevie has never talked about relationships in this manner. The tone and the diction are not hers at all.

Let me check my Rumours Deluxe. There's on cut on here of Lindsey playing electric guitar (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAWTxZIwl0Y) and singing solo backed by the rhythm section. It fits him like a glove. It's his! It's gotta be his. Since when does he record an entire Nicks song and sing it all the way through as a reference vocal—especially with this much conviction, shouting directions the way he and McVie do on their own songs, indicating verse, chorus, bridge, and so on? THIS IS HIS SONG, PEOPLE! NurseJackson is brilliant on this point. Reconsider this one, RodeoJoe.

Wow that all fits like a glove and makes perfect sense. It’s also. Ever been played live. It doesn’t seem like a particularly difficult song for them to have done and the whole “only song off of Rumours Never Done live” angle seems too much for Stevie to ever want to pass up. UNLESS like you guys are saying it’s not her song.

And I can take the theory a step further. We never see footage of Stevie singing this song in the studio? Sure we don’t have footage of any recording of the rumours recordings that I know of, but also not one live performance. Do we know if this wasn’t Lindsey’s first and best attempt of mimicking Stevie’s voice with studio trickery?

Hawkeye

Ok just relistened to the song with headphones and I don’t think that theory can be true. She definitely sang it at least once, but still it’s probably just a harmony turned up over the lead or something like that. He is way more enthused singing the song then Stevie Ever was singing lead (and in 1977 that is always a fact and not occasionally sarcastic)

Either way, I will always say Stevie got really screwed here personally even if she somehow did write it, she had so much better material from this era. Silver Springs is the most famous example, but that might not even be the best other fit. Think About It would’ve been a great compromise.

But in the end it was probably the best choice in the end for the quality and flow of the album. We’d get to hear all those other songs eventually whether officially or unofficially eventually.

That's some good clue-finding there, with the Rumours Deluxe cut.
I'll definitely concede that Lindsey sounds super enthused.

We should keep in mind that back in those days you have Lindsey singing "Crystal" and he's often singing or sharing lead on Christine's songs.

And there is also the context that at the point of recording Rumours, Stevie was still just the bonus extra that came with Lindsey's recruitment into the band as its leading man--at least from a musical/recording perspective (obviously she very soon came to hold her own with her Rhiannon stage persona and pin-up photogenics).

Here's an alternative angle: It was a Stevie penned demo, which Lindsey was going to sing lead on (maybe because it seemed like more of a guy's song; not entirely convinced on this point, though), but they opted for a Stevie-Lindsey shared vocal after the Silver Springs thing.

I still don't see these "crammed" lyrics as being Lindsey-penned.
The chord simplicity and the somewhat spiral structure of the song are reminiscent of Stevie to me.

It's not as killer a track as Blue Letter for them to have bought it from someone else, I would have thought.

EDIT: It's a fascinating topic because this is a track on RUMOURS, so I'm inclined to choose this as my question to ask Lindsey at my upcoming m&g!
