There's one in Indy, Shapiros, that's like 100 years old. I've been there once.
This is the land of corn fed Protestants. 'Course, I'm not much into corn, or religion. Now meat loaf, there's something I know about all too well.:rolleyes:My mom used to put whole eggs (or halved eggs) in her meatloaf, which was kind of interesting, although all in all I didn't feel that eggs are at their best baked.

ZIP-ZIIIING!! THWOFT!! That's the sound of my sarcasm zinging right over your head!Fiddle-dee-dee! I'm usually totally in-tuned with when you're being serious and when you're being sarcastic. That one whizzed right by me though, and now I have egg on my face.
At least I think that's egg. Otherwise, I don't want to know what it is!

Lux is a poor man's carnevaca :rolleyes:Lux isn't the poor man's version of anything, my dear Jaybird.
She's one of the most interesting, original, offbeat, insightful, droll people we have around here, and I'm happy we have her back. And I truly mean that, Lux.

Fiddle-dee-dee! I'm usually totally in-tuned with when you're being serious and when you're being sarcastic. That one whizzed right by me though, and now I have egg on my face.It isn't egg on your face, Stew. Egg is sometimes baked, as it was in my mom's meatloaf. At other times, egg is poached, as it is in the variety of eggs Benedict dishes served at Katie's in Carmel. I urgently recommend having breakfast at Katie's if you happen to be in the Carmel area.

I prefer sausage for breakfast.
Hmm, that was an unintentional euphemism!

Big thanks to the first 3 posts. It set the tone perfectly to what transpired. This couldn't have been any more brilliant.

And to think I started it all with a simple question! hehe.

Because it would have completely taken away the invective humor of it all

Is this the new standard of board etiquette? Personal jabs are embraced and the whole community (or just the Homer-style pricks) can dance around the fire laughing at how good the crack made at someone's expense is? I must have missed that update. Incase you weren't aware, that post was just a joke demonstration. Perhaps you knew that though, Homer certainly did.

Who's being toooo serious? J made me laugh(literally), so I made a comment referring to such. This thread IS absurd. See, this is Chris' forum(not that anyone cares). ME, J, Macfan, David, Gate(usually), Gail, JYQM.....we get what this is about. We understand that we're having fun.....poking a little fun, In The Meantime(nice, huh?). All the sudden, all these non-regulars pop in, and get their feelings hurt. I don't think that was the intention, but, we're just carrying on, as we usually do.
I hear Stevieland has a new rollercoaster ride, with free admission!,and a very short line.......:blob1: :blob2: :blob1:

With the exception of "What are you listening to right now?" what's the longest thread The Ledge as seen, by the way? Brown Eyes' coming out party is up there, but this one might beat it.

I give up, Brian. Would you like to know my opinion? In the past, it seems to me like, when things have gotten heated, and out of control, get that way only AFTER you get involved. Things always seem to escalate once you start "moderating". I know you're trying to help, but seriously, IMO, things always get waaay more heated, once you're in.:sorry: Again, JMO.

I've never been to Stevieland, but I hear it's a nice place to visit.:blob2: :blob2: :blob2:Like I've tried to tell ya many times before, bud, there's nothing you could say about Stevie that the Stevie fans haven't already said!
Her looks, her weight, her voice, her songs, her hair, her clothes, her setlists... everything's always been open for criticism and jokes on the Stevie forum.
Not everyone partakes, of course... but it's not like you'd be doing anything there that hasn't already been done. Several times over, no less.
It's a MUCH different atmosphere there than it is here on Christine's Forum.
I say you should just roll with the punches, acknowledge that if you can make some Stevie jokes, then others should be allowed to make some Christine jokes, and have a good time. :)
It is pretty cute that you want revenge for a few jocular comments though! Christine'd be proud to know she has such devoted fans.

No offense, dear, but you are high. I mean, honestly - unclean? who are you, Hitler? Or some weird book burner? I would think not. The christine forum is like all the others - a place to discuss Christine. There is massive "criticism" on the Stevie board, and some on the Lindsey...
Is your psyche really that fragile that you can't handle any jokes/diverse opinions of Christine?
Are you trying to create a "pure board"?
What's the big schlemiel?
It would be sad if anyone who wanted couldn't go to the Chris board and discuss what they thought of her stuff. It's not like she's the Virgin Mary or something - she's a musician, with all the strengths and foibles that entails. No one is "perfect", not even Miss Perfect!
And we both know she would shudder at the thought of anyone saying she is perfect.

Bob Dylan's a songwriting legend. I don't care for him myself, but, nonetheless...
Yeah, which? I didn't see the transgressions of the faq.

No, I never mentioned anybody, you did. Everyone should play WITHIN the rules, right? I, certainly, always try to. And always will. Rules IZ rules, after all. I've always been good about following rules. That's for sure.
But, sh*t in my backyard, and........I'm not being snarky, but I don't know which rules you're referring to. The Ledge rules? No one's breaking any of those by making a joke about Christine on the Christine Forum (just as, conversely, no one's breaking them by making a joke about Stevie on the Stevie Forum).
I think that all anyone (well, at least Amber and I) is trying to tell you, is that you don't need to be so defensive about Christine. Step back and remember that you're the guy who thinks Stevie's fans are ridiculous when they get so defensive about her... and then you'll get the gist of what we're trying to explain to you.
Someone saying they don't like 'In The Meantime' (or 'Christine McVie'), or making a smartass joke about how many copies her albums have sold, isn't going to sully Christine's board. She's really not in need of any "protection," as she's never been raked over the coals on ANY of the forums here on the Ledge (or anywhere else!). And the very few people who aren't crazy about her, are hopelessly outnumbered by those who either love her or at least like her.
She's as good as golden 'round here -- much moreso than any of the other bandmembers (with the exception of maybe Peter Green, as SteveMacD rightly pointed out)... and a few criticisms or jokes, even on her namesake forum, isn't going to ever change that. :xoxo:

No dear, but the climate has done a 180 around here lately. It was really nice around here, until a week or so ago. Am I not entitled to my opinion?Homie, of course you're entitled to your opinion... but keep in mind that you're talking about one lone thread amongst many others here. It's not a total 180... it's one thread. And it'll die soon enough, just like any other thread eventually does.
If "they" choose to dole it out, then most surely they can accept reciprocation, no? I've NEVER doled out(or been) to to their playground. Tit for tat.:xoxo:Well, it does seem odd to make or have made cracks about Stevie on the Rumours Forum, the Post-Rumours Forum, the Lindsey Forum, the Christine Forum, etc. -- all places which Stevie's fans also constantly view and post... not to mention the little Stevie dig in your signature line which is seen each and every time you post... and then say that no one's allowed to make a joke about Christine here, solely because there happens to be ONE forum on which you refrain from making jokes about Stevie (and, let's be honest, that's only because you're simply not interested in visiting that particular forum, otherwise you would be making jokes there, too).
And, again, we're not even talking about jokes about Christine that are even terribly mean-spirited or scathing.
No one can ruin or **** all over Christine's forum with just a smattering of flippant remarks. But if you still don't want to read what __(insert name here)__ has to say, then put them on ignore... and the Christine forum is as good as pristine again.
I'm saying this as a friend... not being argumentative.

Wow, I thought he was talking about some heinous thing that I did not see - but now I realize he was talking about some totally inocuous thing that no one on the Stevie forum would even blink at, if someone said it about STevie.
How weird that, in actuality, it was the totally innocuous comment that made someone upset.
That's weird, in other forums, someone would just argue with whatever was said, and it would be business as usual.
Maybe Christine is more sacrosanct than I thought? I just thought no one was saying anything bad about her cause they didn't have bad thoughts about her. I didn't realize there was a "Christine Mafia".

Who the hell is "they"? The vast majority of posts in this thread have been made by people who post here regularly (however you want to define regularly on a forum that normally generates ten posts a week), having a good time and posting funny pictures and hunting down kishka stealers.

Tell me the whole thing isn't a dream
I have opened my eyes and truly seen
The colour of the eyes
The feel of your lips on mine
It took me a thousand years
To discover love is fine
You are
Everything to me
The touch of your hand is like a blind man
That now can see
The colour of your eyes
The feel of your lips on mine
It took me a thousand years
To discover love is fine
When you slow down
Won't you give me some time
I wait endlessly
There's no reason or rhyme
Fo the joy and pain you bring me
I guess it's not a crime
Well if it is then you're guilty
But somehow we will be fine
You are
Everything to me
The touch of your hand is like a blind man
That now can see
The colour of your eyes
The feel of your lips on mine
It took me a thousand years
To discover love is fine
Everything you are
Everything you feel
Belongs in a little way to me
Like a spinning wheel

Well, if vegetarians are going to trot out the bull**** "How can you kill animals?" argument, it seems only fair to offer the same one back.Well, I don't know. I thought one of the vegetarian arguments was that animals can actually feel as opposed to plants. But when I try to pull that, my dad says "How do you know plants can't feel?" But at that point I start thinking he's bsing his way through the argument like he does a lot.
Anyway, I do understand that humans were most likely (certainly?) designed to eat other animals. It makes sense to me biologically. As far as I know, we are omnivores. But personally I just have a hard time with it.

Well?
Anyway, I do understand that humans were most likely (certainly?) designed to eat other animals. It makes sense to me biologically. As far as I know, we are omnivores.
Percy Bysshe Shelley wrote an interesting (read: excruciating) essay on diet back in the 1810s claiming that humans' digestive systems and dental structures were much closer to those of herbivores and almost nothing like those of carnivores, so we should we should only eat plants (obviously the essay is much more complex than that, but that's the basic gist of it). But it seems pretty obvious that our digestive systems exist somewhere in between both extremes. We're clearly very different from herbivores who have multiple stomachs or eat their own poop (one of oh so many htings we've learned in this thread).
Regardless, I don't think The Ledge is the best place to be basing any arguments on, "Well, clearly, this is what humans are supposed to do biologically."
But personally I just have a hard time with it.
Which is cool with me, I don't care what anybody eats, as long as they're not begrudging me my steak, particularly when it's based on some ludicrous "Well it's mean to the animals!" argument. There are so many cultures on this earth that have so much more respect for animal life than we (the "Western" lot) do, and they eat plenty of meat. Animals are going to die, and other animals are going to eat their corpses. That's just how things work. Nothing wrong with us being those other animals.

I have never read that essay but that is very interesting. I've never heard anyone try to use that argument, just other ones that have no basis in science whatsoever, as far as I can tell.

We don't really have room to talk. I still have a hard time sitting next to someone who's devouring ribs wildly, complete with various liquids dripping from the mouth, but that's my problem, really.
Uh...  Am I really supposed to address this? :o
You seem to always have more up your sleeve than I do, so why don't you?
Nah, I got nothin'. Technically, no, plants don't feel "pain" the way animals do because they don't have a nervous system or consciousness. Still, it's certainly traumatic for a plant to be killed or have its parts ripped off.
More importantly, I just don't see where the "animals feels pain" argument has any relevance. I guess it's based on the idea that "it's not nice to cause pain." But using that logic, should you not take your kids to the doctor to get vaccinations? After all, shots cause pain. And anyway, there are good ways to kill an animal without it feeling any pain.
Now, if the issue is humane treatment of animals, that's another thing. If you won't eat certain animal products because you know that the farms which produce them mistreat their animals, that's perfectly fine. We could all stand to exercise our consumer boycott power a little more. But to say that nobody should eat any meat ever because animals feel pain is just a little silly. (And again, if it's just you who doesn't want to eat meat because animals feel pain, that's fine. Just keep your hands off my steak, and I won't make you watch me eat it.)
[COLOR="Indigo"]That Shelly. I have never read that essay but that is very interesting. I've never heard anyone try to use that argument, just other ones that have no basis in science whatsoever, as far as I can tell
I found it on Project Gutenberg if you want to read any of it: http://www.gutenberg.org/dirs/etext03/shlyc10.txt
Just search the page for "diet" and you'll eventually find it. It's down toward the bottom and begins with, "I hold that the depravity of the physical and moral nature of man originated in his unnatural habits of life."
I forgot, he also claims that disease and moral depravity also come from eating meat. He maintains that animals that live in the wild and eat a "natural diet" almost never contract diseases and simply die of old age (this being before the pollution of the industrial revolution had begun to make its effects known), whereas as domesticated animals and humans suffer all sorts of diseases because their food is raised and prepared and cooked and such. Fun stuff!

When I was vegan before it was for health reasons, and also environmental reasons. You know, the whole cut down the rain forest to graze cattle thing? It really does take an incredible amount of energy, land, etc. to raise cattle. It is a most inefficient food source.
I never use the mean to animals argument, however, while I don't disagree with people killing animals for food, I do disagree with the way the animals are kept until death in the poultry and beef industries. I think it's cruel. It's not the same as, oh, say, when your grandpa goes out and shoots a deer, then everyone eats the meat all winter. The animals in the industry are kept in abhorrent, painful, and disgusting conditions, shot full of god knows what, and then killed.
To me those are very good reasons. :)

My 2ยข.
I love meat. Pork is not something I eat regularly at all...very rarely. Too close to the human food chain.
I am never sick (not even sniffles), I have too much hair on my head, my skin glows and I'm as regular as the morning rush hour. So why should I go vegan? I'd probably become unhealthy.
Eating red meat 2-3x a week make for incredible orgasms and sex juice loads. Lettuce leaves and bird seed just aint gonna cut it in that department.

I'm sure you went into much greater detail explaining yourself, but I didn't find it the first time and I don't have the energy to analyze well right now. So I will attack by saying that is about the dumbest argument I have ever heard. Would you like to slaughter little Johnny and serve him to your family? Ideally, the vaccinations would be a beneficial thing to little Johnny. If the slaughtering of the animals is going to make them healthier in the long run, then yes, let's whip out the buzzsaw. But you seem plenty knowledgeable so please, rebut.

Okay, my fave bumper sticker is the one I see every time I leave my room to go to class.
Someone has one that says "Abstinence makes the heart grow fonder."

I really try not to eat a lot of bread. If I do, it's all whole grain. I eat bran for breakfast every morning, though. That's how lame I am. I eat lots of cut veggies, but I force them down because I loathe carrots and broccoli.
I used to excercise for 45 minutes a day before, now I do it for 90 minutes in the morning. Never would I have had the energy to do that while I was eating meat!
Damn, you must be looking good! 90 minutes? That is a long time. I just joined a new gym this morning and am so excited because it is huge. My current gym is cramped, they often do not have the music on, there are sneakers on top of the lockers in the locker room, some of the staff isn't friendly (this woman who's a woman-hater), the air circulation isn't good, the temperature isn't right, etc. My new gym is brand new and huge. It isn't open yet though but pretty damn close, I toured it this morning and they have a lot of workers in there finishing it up. Woo hoo!
I do eat meat but not often. I had roast beef last night though, the sliced kind, and it did gross me out.
More energy sounds good to me. I'm always frikkin tired. Though I just realized I may not be getting enough sleep. Duh!

I look okay. My routine is usually 45 minutes when I first get up, then I relax and eat breakfast (which I *never* used to do), get my clothes ready for the day, and then do another 45 minutes. I have to get up earlier than I used to in order to fit it all in, but it's worth it in the long run. My energy used to be **** and then I was diagnosed with melanoma back in late spring, so it was even worse when I was being treated for it and had surgery to remove it, but now I feel better than ever. And I have so much freaking exercise equipment that I could run my own gym right out of my apartment. It's really ridiculous.
Cool beans on the new gym. Do you go to the gym often? When I had a membership to one, I went every day for, like, a week and just got grossed out by the people who were always there.

Can someone tell me why the word "definitely" is so difficult to spell? It's always written as "definately" or even the extreme of "deffinatly", but no matter what variant people use, they seem to use it consistently so it isn't just a simple typo. I used to belong to the "definately" group myself.

I don't really understand it, either. Clearly, it's a spelling error that has simply beomce so common that it's ingrained in a lot of people's brains as the correct spelling. But I'm not sure why the error occurs in the first place. You never see people write "infinately" or "defination."

I have more difficulty with the placement (or removal) of the letter E. For example:
Possibly vs. possibley

I had a professor in college, who was trying to write "environment" on the board, and she was stuck, stopped, laughed, and told us she'd always had trouble with that word.
Once I told her the word IRON was in the middle, she thanked me, and said she'd never forget how to spell it again. Do normal people think of words like that, or is it just me?

No, I think that's a pretty common mnemonic device. One of my grade school teachers used to tell us to remember that there was "a rat" in "separate" (as opposed to the incorrect "seperate").

And let's not forget science class and remembering the colors of a rainbow, in order.

Well, I'm a horrible speller. Sometimes, I'll use spellcheck before posting. However, there are a few words that I have ways of remembering how to spell. For example:
Dialysis = Dial? Why sis?
That's cute, I realize. However, analysis is just plain dirty.

I'm SOOO musically f*cked up in the head. Even though I played trumpet for 9 years, and started college as a music major(with excellent grades, btw), I'm completely self taught on guitar and keyboards. So, I've got all these tricks in my bag, that I have no REAL idea of what I'm really doing(did that make sense?). I've been asked dozens of times to give guitar lessons. I just explain to them that since I've never had formal lessons, "you don't need my bad habits!".
