I just wanted to say, in the four years since I joined the Stevie board, I have never seen it so active, not even in the weeks leading up to TISL's release. There are regularly 30-40 people logged on, and more posts than you can shake a stick at.
Despite the fact that people seem disappointed by Stevie's Vegas set list, something about these shows seems to have appealed to people's imaginations!
Maybe it's partly because everyone's banded together in an unprecedented way to share info about the shows and the upcoming tour -- along with MP3s and videos... It's all very cool...

yeah, there's so much traffic on this board, i can hardly keep up... it's very cool... but there always seems to be something going on with this woman these days.. first the Vegas thing, now the "Gold Dust Tour"... what next? a new album, perhaps?? and then what, another tour?? :woohoo:

I think it has something to do with the fact that we were all in the SAME TOWN together, many of us on the same night and seeing each other face to face for the first time. When it's something like a SYW or TISL tour, it's fragmented across many cities and several weeks/months apart. It's no surprise to me there is a sense of unity on the board right now. And might I ADD... the NICKS FORUM in particular!

Kind of fitting, really. I mean, he is an 'artist of integrity' after all. Stevie takes the Vegas gig, Lindsey goes out and tours for the fans at reasonable prices. That'd be awesome.
But that's not what's going on. More likely, he's enjoying being a dad, making another record (that will be available eventually) and all the money he didn't blow on cocaine in the 80's.

I love Stevie Nicks, I love Lindsey Buckingham. Either one of these artists would play to the biggest crowd they could sell tickets to without any issues of integrity or lack thereof. The fact that Lindsey was instrumental in getting Stevie hired by Fleetwood Mac and then shot to superstardom doesn't wipe out any talent she had then or does today. A big part of the magic of the Buckingham/Nicks union is their history together and tiny little twists of fate that brought them into the spotlight. We know and love them because they loved each other enough to not abandon their dreams when things were stacked against them.
A waitress? A bitter frustrated artist? Either one of them probably spends their time better than those who fued on internet forums about which rock star millionaire deserves to be worshipped.

Hmm. I know you're not alone. Personally, I dig Lindsey's solo stuff, and I like Stevie with Fleetwood Mac. Stevie's solo stuff, not so much.
I was a late convert, though. A college buddy went to see a show in "The Dance" tour, and I ragged him for it. All I knew of FM was 'dreams,' 'landslide,' 'rhiannon,' etc. I didn't even know songs like 'go your own way' or 'don't stop' were FM, because I had associated FM with Stevie. I wasn't a big fan (although I came to truly love her contributions to Tusk later). My buddy shakes his head and says "Dude, you don't even know..." and gives me a copy of 'The Dance.' So I'm a fan now, primarily because I love listening to Lindsey play guitar. But I'm a guitar player, so I guess that makes sense.
Anyhow, I don't really mean to disparage Stevie's contributions. I'm just not into it. I also have some doubts as to how far she would have gotten without Lindsey or FM, but she did have some things going on for her, musically.

Well, yeah, it's a matter of personal taste. But as for how far she would've gotten without Lindsey in the first place, I have to agree with you. I'm not sure she would've gotten to be famous without Lindsey in the beginning. She has talent by herself but it was the "packaged deal" in the beginning that got her going. Without him, she may not have captivated so many and attained the level of stardom she enjoys (and still enjoys, though not so much). I don't think "Gypsy" is so spectacular without Lindsey, but I don't feel that all of her songs need his playing and production.
Of course, whether or not she has the talent to go on without him and whether or not she can gain popularity with the masses are two different issues, though you pretty much said that. I guess I'm just rehashing what you already said, so I'll stop now.

I think you like to make it sound like LB was on the plane to stardom and Stevie was running behind him screaming "YOU KNOW I HAVE NO TALENT TAKE ME WITH YOU" That is just not true. They went together and happily so according to both. yet, you always make it sound like Stevie was just some random hang on gal in LB's way and she was merely fortutious to have met him. I think that is misleading and untrue. I mean even LB said they were a "package deal." By that he could have meant "I need her because of her songs, talent, etc." Yet, you never say that  Moreover, it is mostly because of her ambition that Mick noticed them  I believe she was the one who said let's move to Calif. - though I think in the end it was a mutual decision.

Good point. Don't sell Lindsey short in that regard, though. He also recognized enough in her to realize that she would have a special appeal, and was worth taking along. And whether by coincidence or design, I think they owe a lot of success to walking that thin line between sell-out and integrity, and playing that up for all it was worth.
That, and they just sounded right together.

By that he could have meant "I need her because of her songs, talent, etc." Yet, you never say that  Moreover, it is mostly because of her ambition that Mick noticed them  I believe she was the one who said let's move to Calif. - though I think in the end it was a mutual decision.

The story I had was that Mick wanted Lindsey, and LB told him they were a package deal.
There was a time when Stevie's voice was enough of an instrument to draw new fans to her. I think she's long past that point. But she's always been a stronger lyric writer, IMO.

Well I dunno, her "new voice" has a following also..I starting liking her because of her "The Dance voice", and didnt get into her pre-dance music till a little later..
And I still prefer her voice now to many of her previous voice incarnations..

Well, yes, but they would not have been in LA in the first place had it not been for Stevie's ambition - thus, Mick could have never heard FL and asked LB to join  Plus, LB would not go without her - so that must mean on some level that he thought her an asset outside of the bedroom  In the end, this whole tired argument is silly because we will never know who would have done what if not for FM. Maybe La Nicks would have gotten tired of supporting LB so he could play guitar and work on his craft. Maybe he would have gotten tired of her. Maybe they would have married and been huge stars in their own right. But, the fact is they through a series of events, joined FM, and the rest is great musical history IMO.

That is just Diss being an a$$ - Though I love him, to hear him say it, you would think La Nicks has played to more than half empty arenas since 1985, when the facts suggest that while there were few sell outs, the venues were fairly if not mostly full (around 2/3 proabably or more on average though I am not about to head over to Pollstar  )

Well, they are an example of "the sum is greater than its parts". Separately they are both good, together they blow you away.

Haven't read the entire thread yet but I had to respond to this. As much as I'm giving SN her props for Vegas, nobody's mentioned one big negative for the show besides the cappy setlist and cheesy vids. Only Sat was sold out. Tues some friends of mine stayed in the casino and didn't go to the show. They counted over 100 people walking out during the show. I thought the whole week was a success for fans but the comp ticket holders won't be taking up seats on the tour. Caesar's only held about 4000 capacity. I don't see Stevie selling out tour venues larger than that this summer. :sorry:

I'm not sure that's actually what happened but people always tell it that way. Stevie actually got into Fritz via another member. Male/female cousins who left the group were replaced by Stevie and another guy and that other guy got her into the band, as I heard it told.

Well I don't think Vegas is any indication of how the tour will do....Sure it seats 4100, but she played there four nights...so if she say drew app. 14,000 people (assuming she didnt sell it out the first 3 nights) to one city, I dont think that's bad...Also tickets were a little higher in Vegas than they will be throughout the tour, atleast her solo portion...I think she will draw about the same crowds she did with the TISL Tour... Her shows with Don, from what I've heard are meeting expectations of the promoter in terms of sales, and we will see I guess.

I acutally came here looking for a copy of Saturday night's Vegas show but surprisingly I've found I love it and have become addicted already lol. None of my close friends are Stevie die hards and they get sick of me talking about her so it has been so wonderful to find a group of people that feel the same way about her as I do. I don't think he can swallow his pride and go to a small label or release it himself. He wants the royal treatment that a big label like Warners provides. He's too deluded to realize that they won't treat him like royalty as a solo artist, which is why GOS was never released and he turned it into a Mac project: because as much as he bitches about being an struggling artiste, he still wants the perks and nothing less.

Well, she said she would look into SOTM after Ladd, not she, brought it up. I truly think she wanted to do TTM but dropped it because she did not write it or like Waddy said - it is hard for some reason for her to sing these days. I do think though she considered it.

It was the only thing remotely like what she implied on Ladd and it was a hellava stretch if you're calling that use of the "video songs." WTH? Why not the masterpiece vid of ROF? Ok this is in response to all of you who are bitter about being mislead by the Jim Ladd interview. I admit as hyped as I was after the show I too was a little put off by the fact that she had built it up so much and not followed through with the majority of what she said. At the same time I thought it was an amazing show and don't really think it matters a great deal what she said. I was thrilled to be there and so grateful to have the opportunity to see her in Vegas.
But on that note I need to play devil's advocate for a moment here - Is it possible that what she told us may have been her intentions at the time and that for reasons beyond her control and reasons we will never know it just wasn't possible? There are so many factors that go into putting on a production. The possibilities are endless as to why she didn't break out the old outfits or play some of the songs she mentioned or the other things. I just hate to think that she blatantly lied to us when she did that interview and already knew she wasn't going to do any of the things she said she would. Thoughts?

I liked all the video songs, too. :p I know I couldn't have lived another minute without IAF and the never ending loops of her schlock ballet during that one.
It's too bad that more of the IAF video wasn't shown because it's so pretty and ethereal. It would have added a lot to the imagery of the song, which I loved, btw.

Most definitely. My friend that came with me had also gone with me to see the opening night of Enchanted and remarked after the TISL show that neither her or her band were into it at all. I felt the same way.
I agree..that's why when ppl were complaining about her performance during the SYW Tour, I didn't see it --because on the SYW Tour she was way more active than the TISL Tour...and the TISL Tour was my first tour I had seen her...so I was amazed that she was twirling in 2003-04, screaming in GDW, wore boots on atleast a few songs, seem to be having more fun...things that lacked on TISL Tour

I'm gonna relisten to it tonight and get back to you. I have a feeling you're spinning like hubcaps on a black Cadillac Escalade, but we'll see....
On the first download:
She talks about the 150 foot wide stage that foes up and the video screens and how she is going to try and fill it. She talks about how she and Waddy are going to figure it out in so little time. She then talks about the IMAX screens and Elton's old footage. She talks about pulling crazy film from her past and how she is going to use the video songs. She did this to an extent, though not all of the time. Maybe she saw it and did not like it, but she clearly used footage from her videos and from songs she did not play like I Can't Wait. She talks about the contrast effect in Sara on the SYW tour and how cool that was - again she did that with IAF  She also says the old clothes are all coming out - well she did that - she wore several older outfits and a stunning new one. Plus she decorated the set with that blue velvet Timespace robe on the piano with the candelabra  Granted no boas - boy that was a vicious lie in an attempt to get people to buy tickets
At 7:11 in pt. 1 she says she "might have to take the microphone off of the stand for the first time since she was in college" - she never said she was going to do it. She is talking about planning what she is going to do because of the size of the stage and these are some of the ideas  She says she may have to go to each end of the stage like Mick Jagger. I think she solved that issue by condensing the stage and not using the 20 or so feet on each side - so taking the mic. off of the stand was not necessary anymore. Maybe it overwhelmed her - who knows - but she is talking about what she MAY do - which hardly is a promise of doing it, which she never did.
At aroung 11:15 on pt. 6, she says "Just a little side thing - I think we are also going to do The Highwayman" - so I WAS WRONG - it was not in the context of the Summer shows (though I could swear she said that) - but she still never promised it as an absolute  On a side note - did you all know that sometimes when you download something you do not get the whole thing - I never knew that as I re-downloaded the Ladd interviews and heard things I never heard
In the end - I think she tried to make the Vegas set (literal set and songs)different and she lived up to what she said she was going to do in that she used the videos, she added songs she hadn't sang in like 15 or so years and we got some new and old cool clothes  I wanted more and wish she would have done more, but she did not and no one is ever going to agree on what is more. Such is life and she still gave a phenomenal show despite any superficial rote set list.

Now that you know the truth about Stevie, you probably shouldn't go next time. You'll probably be really disappointed, and then you may feel the urge to bitch about it. Then I'll feel the urge to feel bad for you, that you got so little out of the experience. :distress:
I've always known the truth about Stevie especially the part about never taking anything she says at face value. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy her work. I don't make excuses for her inconsistencies and contradictions, but that doesn't mean I can't give kudos to her onstage behavior when she deserves her due. Vegas was not what she said. Period. I still loved her performances and I will always remember how great she was compared to the dozens of other times I've seen her live across the past 30 years. Stevie, just stop talking and go out and do your thing on stage. You've still got it. You don't need the outfits or the videos to sell your show to me.

Yup. He's an indie musician trapped inside the body of an ego-driven, superstar rock god. He'll never be able to give up the perks. That's a shame too, because I bet he could release some very interesting stuff if he'd just get off his high horse!

I've always known the truth about Stevie especially the part about never taking anything she says at face value . . . .
But that is my point, she never said anything that could be miscontrued. She never said "I AM DOING THIS SONG" she instead said she was may or might and was talking about how they were going to plan this. If you read into that as "I am with no ifs and or buts" well that is not really her fault  And again, she used the video screen, she changed the set list, and we got new and old clothes, which were the things she went on about. That it was not to your liking does not mean she did not do it at all
On edit - I am not trying to pick a fight. I am just saying how she did what she said she was going to do and I think she did it the best she could - but to each their own

I just hate to think that she blatantly lied to us when she did that interview and already knew she wasn't going to do any of the things she said she would.
That's just it- I don't think she blatently lied. I think she's a flake. She doesn't think enough about her fans and what she's saying. It would be one thing if it were a tour, but it was (for lack of a better term) a special performance fer chrissakes! People flew from all over the place and spent bucketloads of money on overpriced Las Vegas for a special experience, as she advertised it. Sadly, it did not live up to her advertising.
The only thing I consider odd is that there obviously were controls on discussing the setlist. Jana Anderson and Sharon both declined to discuss the setlist on the Nicksfix Q & A. While not nefarious, I'm sure the promoters didn't want anything leaked out for fear that fans WOULDN'T fly from all over place to attend the Vegas shows.

But, yes, I did say that and stand by it - though I think I meant at other concerts not that one because she gave it her seeming all. The thing with her to me is that when she wants, she can dazzle the socks off of ya. But, then that set list - ugh. If it had been me, which it was not  - I would have dropped OTR and INTK - and put ROF and TTM in their place. I would also have worked that stage with that mic. - but I know how to do that, maybe she doesn't or is horribly uncomfortable doing that. But, the choice was her's and I enjoyed the show.

I think it is the doing it every night that she is scared of. I think she knows she is 57 (almost) year old woman who has been singing on tour essentially every year or so since like 1973. And - she has had a 30 year history of trouble and apparently gets colds easily and has since the 70's. So, not pushing it appears to be her deal. She did, though, in Vegas push it even in the songs other than B&B - but perhaps that was due to the climate controlled environment and no airtravel, which can cause problems. Food for thought.
