I can't find the "I'll show you mine if you show me yours" pet pic thread, so I'm starting a new one. (Once again, late to the party, as usual...) Please post some pics of your babies (come on, Amber, I know you've got more!)
Here are my cats (Mrs. Bouvier is the gray Siamese mix & Cosmo is the B&W) and our Boxer Bubba.

Beautiful pets guys. I'm a cat person. I love a cat with an attitude! Mine has a big one. His name is Kittybaby...
We just bought 20 acres so when we move out in the country a Border Collie or Blue Healer is a must for me. Such intelligent dogs.

Wow. That's a shame.
Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened.I've never had anything other than goldfish and koi. I know that isn't the same as having something to cuddle with. :) I always go nuts with my friends cats and dogs. I really want one someday. I think I may have been just as upset as my best friend's family was when their dog Buck had to be put to sleep. :( He was part lab part dalmation, and even though he was gigantic, he would try to sit in your lap because they let him do that when he was a puppy and he never broke the habit. He was so sweet.
I'll quit my rambling and add that all of y'alls pets are SO cute!

I want a crocodile sooooo bad and maybe a gerbel or a gold fish.I want a snake so much! I would want it to be a ball python. But I'm telling you I couldn't do it because I would never be able to stand feeding him or her mice! That would really gross me out.
I also want a schnauzer, preferably a giant schnauzer, but I know it would be overwhelming. I love black labs, too.
And I love cats, especially the ones with the tortoise shell coats. And guinea pigs. Those are hard to resist, too. And I love ducks and geese. And I have every intention of having a koi pond, if nothing else.
But there's no way I'll ever have all those animals!

Sweet and true words :)
I had horrible experiences with pets when I was younger because my parents were clueless and not able to take proper care of them. Ugh. I used to have 2 cats with my ex fiance but he got them, it was so sad to have to give them up. Now I have my Mufasa, he is a darling cat and I adore him and nothing will ever separate us. May sound melodramatic but given my history with pets, to me it is not. He's my baby. When I get my holiday pics developed I will post.

Mice make great pets; very low maintenance, cheap, very sweet and social, and can be left alone if you go away for a few days....my kinda pet.

You all have beautiful pets.
These are the only pics I could find on my computer of my four kitties. The first couple are of Circe, a muted tortie. (My dad says she's the ugliest cat he's ever seen in his life.) The next cat is Gypsy, also known as "Velcro" because she has difficulty retracting her claws. And the last picture is of Gypsy, her brother (whom we haven't named properly and just refer to as "big man"), and their mom, Calypso, a normal tortie. :)

Yeah I get a lot of negative reactions when people find out that I have rats. I get stupid questions too like "Aren't you afraid you're gonna get the plague?" Whatever.
I've had 13 other rats in the past and couldn't imagine myself without one. I had one named Gordon that I used to take to work with me everyday (I'm a receptionist at a veterinary hospital). I'd let him run around on my desk. He'd steal my paperwork and make nests out of them, he'd take sips of my co-workers' coffee (decaf, thankfully), steal their snacks, and greet clients. He was a great conversation starter and the whole staff and most of the clients really loved him. My coworkers would spoil him rotten and feed him crackers, candy, ice cream, etc. He got so fat that they nick-named him "El Gordo." (Gordo is spanish for fat) But he was the sweetest animal I've ever owned. You could poke him, tug his ears, tug his tail, basically do anything, and all he'd do is get this really annoyed look on his face and then grab your finger and lick it. He'd also lick my nose if I held him up to my face.
I've had other pets in the past -- mice, a tortoise, and parakeets. All but one of the mice never tamed down enough to be really handleable, they smelled really bad no matter how much I cleaned their cages, seemed prone to allergies and they are so small that I always worried about hurting them.
The tortoise was more work than she was worth. Constantly changing water (cause she pooped in it), buying and chopping up produce and mixing it with commercial tortoise pellets, calcium, and vitamin and mineral supplements. And what did I get in return? A pet that did nothing but eat, poop and hide in her little shelter.
The birds were just evil, or at least the female was. She had to be kept seperate from the male because she would attack him and rip out his feathers. She also would fling seed and water at me, bang her cage door, and screech at the top of her lungs ALL DAY LONG.
UGH

hmm, i've recently been wanting to get some really tiny cute birds. You've kind of curbed that desire...
Yeah, rats are neat. The one we sat for would unroll the paper off my dad's candy, and steal cigs out of his pocket, and he wouldn't even notice! I like them...My friend had a turtle, but it was just in water all the time, didn't require as much maintenance. Just put turtle food, and sometimes some fish in there for it to eat... It needed a warm light thing, though...

My class had a pet rat when I was in the 8th grade...along with a turtle, fish and lizard. We were allowed to take the rat with us to computer class (I went to a small, private school) and one day, I had the rat, and he peed on me. LOL He was so cute and would sit on our shoulders and walk through the other girls' giant hoop earrings. The lizard was cool, but his claws were uber-sharp, so he didn't get held as often. One kid loved holding him though even though he would get scratched up.
I don't like birds. My aunt brings her freakin' parrot to all family functions and I was afraid my uncle was going to kill it at Christmas. LOL They are too noisy.

Some people adore birds. I had a friend in high school who didn't really like most animals, HATED cats, but thought birds were the most wonderful things in the world.
I'm just not one of those people. Oh well, I never had any intention of getting birds. I ended up with them the same way I've ended up with the toad, the tortoise, several of my rats, one of the mice, and several fish -- their owner wasn't taking care of them. So of course stupid, gullible, soft-hearted sucker that I am took them in. Had them for 4 years and couldn't stand it anymore. I finally contacted an avian rescue organization who sent a volunteer out to pick them up. The volunteer actually ended up keeping them as her own pets.
As for the tortoise - I found a woman in my town that does tortoise and turtle rescue. She liked my tortoise so much that she considered keeping it herself. In the end the tortoise ended up in a breeding program at a nearby zoo (don't remember which one).
Some critters just aren't for certain people. There are some critters I'd love to have but probably never will. I'd really like to have a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach or a Millipede. No I'm not kidding. I've always had a fascination with bugs and people really do keep them as pets. I get the distinct feeling though that if I kept either of them I'd either be stuck living with my parents forever because I'd never find a roommate or landlord willing to deal with them (I'll have enough problems with the rats and the crabs) or I'd end up homeless because my parents would throw me out.

I get the distinct feeling though that if I kept either of them I'd either be stuck living with my parents forever because I'd never find a roommate or landlord willing to deal with them (I'll have enough problems with the rats and the crabs) or I'd end up homeless because my parents would throw me out.
well, those are big bugs, so i could see it, sorta. Like having a pet tarantula. But i really don't like bugs. However, I would like them better if they were all in a glass cage.
I was at the pet store, and I saw the cutest, tinyiest, prettiest, chirpiest birds. I kinda fell in love. they were so little. I decided if it ever got out it might become a cat snack, so...
Another pet i saw in the store was a chinchilla, which was soooo cute. They sleep in the day, did you know that? anyway, they were darling, I wanted one.

with Praying Mantis'...No matter where I go if I see one on the ground I pick it up and make sure it isnt injured and play around with it, Let it crawl around on my arms and then I place it out of harms way.
I know what I really want as a pet...a goat!!! I want a pet goat just so I can name it "Stevie" and annoy everyone
I would like to own snakes or bats but Deb is frightened to death of 'em (Man, country folk are such cowards, And then they think they can rip on us city kidz  )

Well, I have the sweetest Golden Retriever on the face of the earth - though I've heard I could be a touch biased. I wish I knew how to post a picture. :( Imagine the most beautiful and lovingest Golden you've ever seen, then enhance your image 100 times over. That would be her. I love her to death.

We had a pet praying mantis in the office at my old job. Her name was Bonnie. She was cool but they only live for like 6 months. People keep them as pets too. You can buy all sorts of really exotic looking mantids.
Goat? I don't do livestock, but they're cute enough.
Bats are cool, I especially like the really big fruit bats, but I don't know that I'd want one as a pet.
I LOVE snakes. Absolutely adore them, but one would starve to death in my house. I couldn't feed live or even dead animals to one. The only kind of snake I'd be able to feed would be an egg-eating snake, but I've heard they have bad temperments.

Everyone always says "eww, a rat for a pet?" but they're kinda cool pets. we babysat one when i was young, and it was really smart.
I love rats! They're excellent pets and they are a lot more intelligent and affectionate than most people think. I wish I could keep rats again (maybe someday when I'm not switching residences all the time.) They're fun little animals, and great if you don't have the space for a cat or dog.

This seems an appropriate thread to post my sad news. I haven't been around in a while because my feline leukemia positive kitty, Gypsy, took ill. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with lymphoma, which is very common among cats with FeLV. Last Tuesday, she died. I've been really heartbroken and too sad to move, almost, much less post about her. Gypsy, aka Doody, was the most special cat I've ever known and I miss her horribly.

Oh, Patti. So sorry to hear that. Losing a pet is so awful - and often people just don't understand that the sadness and loss can be just as devastating as if you lost a person in your life. She was a member of your family. I'm so sorry for your loss.

EXACTLY! It must be christened by Aubie ASAP, because we also have another cat (Smokey), and God forbid that he might get to the fresh litter first.

Yes you're right, hence the plaque I've seen recently "Dogs have owners. Cats have staff." However, cats can be very loving, when Mufy is it's extra special because I can't just get his affection on demand. However, sometimes I wish he were a dog because when I say "Mufy come here." I get nothin'.

Dogs want to please you. Cats want to please themselves. I very much appreciate how EASY it is to care for a cat, as compared to a dog. I probably spend a total of 7 minutes a week, cleaning the litterbox(twice/week), and filling bowls. Now THAT's low maintenance!

Right. I love that too but I would have a dog also if it were allowed here. My landlord nearly croaked when she found out about the cat as it is. Fortunately she is an animal lover.
By the way, Mufy just loves chiffon. I have chiffon curtains and some Stevie skirts with it. He likes to lick it! It's so strange. He also likes to put his claws thru it. Right now he is sleeping on my burnout velvet/chiffon Stevie skirt, what a sweetie :D.

My kitties are all about the attitude. Our dog? Not so much. More "oh my gosh, they're going to pet me, I'm wagging my tail so fast it might fall off, I hope they like me, please pet me, I love you." :p
The cats? "You will pet me now. Right now. OK, I'm done with you for now. Goodbye."

Sigh - I'm pretty sure I've spoiled my dog to the point where she thinks she is in charge. She's been a bit pain in the ass-like lately - and it's totally my fault for not establishing myself as the alpha dog

She's trained - I mean she will do what I tell her...eventually...she's just recently taken over my furniture - and her hearing is becoming more and more selective...I'm thinking she may also be pissed off that I left for trips to Connecticut and then NYC....lol....who knows...
Oh right -I also gave her a bath which she wasn't happy about....
Here's a picture of my 14-year-old cat, Alex. He's close to 20 pounds and he was really wanting my attention while I was attempting to study for a test.

He does this like every day and I'm not sure why. We used to find the sopping mouse laying around the kitchen somewhere but lately it's just been in the bowl. Raven plays this game too. Don't feel guilty about spoiling her. Put some limitations on her but isn't she there to be spoiled? Of course, I am indulgent and Mufasa is spoiled so consider the source. :D He's happy though! Dead-mouse-drinking straws,

dead-mouse-my long hair,
dead-mouse-dried leaf,
dead-mouse-paint brush, etc.

 Mufasa loves hair too. He also LOVES dental floss. He hears me pull out the floss and comes running, he's so weird! I have to hide it from him or he will tear my hands off trying to get at it! So for Mufy:
dental floss = dead mouse
He also loves elastic hair bands but he will eat the small ones so I have to be careful not to leave them around. I have also found pieces of my pillow tassels in his... stool. Oh the fun never stops!
Today I heard a big crash and turns out he was trying to climb up on a shelf to get at some dripping water (roof leak) and the whole thing came crashing down. Ahh, the joy of being a kitty parent. :D Sublime, really.

This photograph shows a red Doberman licking an exhausted fireman.
He had just saved her from a fire in her house, rescuing her by
carrying her out of the house into her front yard, while he
continued to fight the fire. She is pregnant. The firefighter was
afraid of her at first, because he had never been around a Doberman
before. When he finally got done putting the fire out, he sat down
to catch his breath and rest. A photographer from the Charlotte,
North Carolina newspaper, "The Observer," noticed this red Doberman
in the distance looking at the fireman. He saw her walking straight
toward the fireman and wondered what she was going to do. As he
raised his camera, she came up to the tired man who had saved her
life and the lives of her babies, and kissed him, when the

Then I went to work at my second job for about six hours, and he wouldn't let me even take off my shoes for ten minutes because he wanted to be petted and loved on so much, and he hasn't gone to hide at all since. You mean he isn't posing for the camera? :p
Eggszactly... he was on top of my roomate's desk and just happened to look that cute. And yes, I think he knew it. I am happy you enjoyed the pic but he is not as angelic as he appears. I took about 15 photos of him up there and that was the best. However, he was still a naughty boy.
Which he illustrated last night. He was my snuggle bunny from 11pm to 4am which is rare. He was sleeping right next to me under my chin like my little baby. He never snuggles up to me like that. At 4am he wakes up and is looking at me like, "Mom, aren't I the cutest?". Which of course I anwer yes to. But he got up and walked accross all of my furniture and then batted my water glass onto the floor. It shattered. 4am. I was shocked, cleaned it up and he was then banished from my room. Poor baby. ;) But ain't he the cutest?

Poor Mufasa is in the animal hospital again. :( He has a urinary blockage so they have had him over night with a catheter to try to release whatever is there. The poor baby! I probably won't be able to go and get him until tomorrow. He was in so much pain. The vet had to touch his bladder to see if there was a blockage and it hurt him so much that afterward he behaved much like the lion he is named after. He was growling and roaring and hissing. He was murderous! I've never seen him like that. Hopefully he is feeling okay today. They put him on some medication to help with the pain and so he could rest last night.

Awwww, poor baby. I went through the same thing with my kitty last year. They had to keep him on morphine the entire time, in order to work on him. He was in the kitty hospital for 3 days. I now refer to him as the cat with the $700 penis.
I'm sure Mufasa will be fine and home in no time. Sending kitty prayers your way!
ah.. poor thing! Wishing him well. I hate it when animals are ill. Bladder problems are quite common with cats, right.

Thanks for the laugh. Unfortunately its even more here as the estimate was twice that, $1,400! So he will be the man with the 1400 dollar penis. I just got an update and they said he is doing fine. They will x-ray later and if he is unobstructed he can come home. I just worry about him going under but I am sure he will be fine (fingers crossed).

Back at home where my mom lives we got this orange tabby back in 1998. Her and I went to the humane soceity and for whatever reason mom was drawn to this cat in one cage that was constantly purring and meowing. SHe took him out and that was it. SO we were driving home trying to pick out a name for him and I came up with Norman. Mom was like "Norm on Cheers?" And I said "No, Norman Bates from Psycho. Cause cats sometimes have this rep that they're aloof and this one was absolutely the most friendly thing that ever lived. SO I settled on that name cause I figured he must be psychotic to be that friendly... He's like 7 now and hasnt changed a bit.:D

Yeah, the going under thing is scary, but they know what they're doing. My kitty kept pulling out his catheter, and spraying pee on himself. Which is kinda funny, but he smelled terrible! Like pee, and just other animal hospital smells. You might want to pick up some of those kitty bathing cloths at a pet store. I used several on my cat.
When I took my baby home, he was still out of it for a couple days, real wobbly. I spoiled him rotten! Because he was a smelly cat, smelly cat (heh), I put towels on the couch and even put some food and water for him right on the couch as well.
Keep us posted!

Oh he will be spoiled when he gets home, for sure! Thanks for the info, I would never have thought of the cloths. I also wouldn't have thought that he would be so out of it but that make sense given the trauma involved. My poor baby!

That's good news - yeah, the crystals - too much magnesium. Since "the incident," I've only given my cat Hill's Prescription Diet dry food, sold only by vets. And the only canned food he gets (and only a tablespoon or so, 2 x a day) is Iams. No more Friskies or anything that isn't labeled "low in magnesium." I tried the Hill's canned food, but finicky, spoiled baby doesn't like it - and it's only in one flavor - he likes variety. Hopefully Mufy will be home soon!!

Is the litter box fresh? I know my kitty always wants to go in there immediately, whenever I clean it. To get his scent back on it, I suppose. Mufy's weiner and bladder are probably still sore, and he feels like he has to pee all the time...keep an eye on him. If he starts squatting and moaning, he may still have some blockage. Did your vet give you any antibiotics?

that's interesting cause beagles are usually really smart, tho they do get set in their ways, so if he had his mind made up before you started trying that might have been the problem
