I am starting to collect U2 shows now (my current flavor of the week)
Well the 2001 tour is mt favorite and I see you have quite a bit on your site. I am probably going to request some on easytree this week. What would be your reccomendations? What are the best shows, setlist, sound, audience, ect?
right now the only 2001 shows I have..
4/10/01 Clagary, ALB
5/2?/01 Chicago, IL (Opening Night For Chicago)
9/??/01 Dublin, IRE (The radio brodcast show)
10/29/01 New York City, NY
Most of those shows are not that great.. they're good, not A+
What do recommend?
Thanks

There's a discussion in the thread on easytree about this... It's apparently Wallingford... but there are a few versions of Wallingford floating around. Some are missing this first track. Someone said there are three seperate versions labelled Wallingford, with different dates... So who knows...lol
And I should add... It's apparently different then "Who's The New Girl". I haven't downloaded it... well I did once already, and listened to a few tracks, but there was an error on track #5, so I'll have to give it another go and download again.... After Buffalo. But it sounded different then what I have as "Who's The New Girl".

This is all an interesting debate, and I can see both sides. I think we must remember the difference between someone who posts downloads and someone who trades - they are completely separate entities with seperate audiences who put the material to different purposes. David is not encouraging anyone to trade lower quality materials.
Yes, it was questionable behavior to go against the expressed wishes of the sharer. However, as I downloaded the "Who's the New Girl" show off of EZtree today, I noticed that user also posted that he did not want the show converted to MP3. That show has been circulating for years in MP3 format - so what's going on here? Shall we police sites who post that show from now on and try to figure out if they have used the bittorrent as the source and, if so, should we lambaste them for going against the sharer's wishes? It starts getting ridiculous.
If I were David, I would lay off posting bittorrent tracks that request the downloader not to post them as MP3, just to be considerate to the sharer. However, I can't universally condemn him when he's not trying to pass the songs off as higher quality material, just allowing people who don't care about such things access to the show.
If all you're worried about is the quality of shows, make sure you trade with people who meet those standards. Leave the MP3 downloaders alone. JMHO.
All good points, Nancy. I agree about the older shows already circulating as mp3s. Who cares? Sioux City was different. It had only been shared as a cd from uncompressed audio. The torrent trader's wishes were not only ignored by David, he also said in his posts that he doesn't care about anything the torrent traders request regarding shows they share. I think that's insulting and I don't blame anyone for not sharing if people want to put up every show they can get their hands on for download at mp3 websites.
I don't think mp3 is a bad format for my personal use. The torrent traders and people who buy expensive equipment to tape shows don't like it. They won't share as many new shows if they see everything going straight to mp3 websites. We're lucky to have a few people on this board who know enough about torrents to seed shows for us. We don't always have to depend on purists at the torrent sites to get out new shows. The failure to honor the no mp3 requests just makes it harder to get more good stuff from the tapers who won't want to share if they know shows will be going straight to mp3 downloads as soon as they're shared on the torrents.

I hope I can let this debate die now with this post! I am not going to post anymore bootlegs of which has the label "Don't convert to mp3" anymore! But I will post the rest of this bootleg just to be respectless to a person which doesn't deserve respect! This is what Melanie has written on the EZBoard about me:
"Thanks for the show. I understand the info file note for no mp3 conversion. I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. I upped a show recently and it was on an mp3 download sites the next day. My info note didn't mean crap. I'm not upping any more shows while this guy is out there trashing what we try to make good. He comes here to grab and go. His share ratio is lousy. I'll wait until he exceeds his limit before I up another show. I like all German people but he is giving all Fleetwood fans a bad rep." (http://www.easytree.org/torrents-details.php?id=21622)
And she was the one who seeded this show! You blamed me for not respecting the taper's request, but I can tell you that this was her request! everyone of you contacted me, except the taper of this show! Does he know that she offers his show for bittorrent? I want to hear from him that this was his request!
A few days ago I used the example of the "My Heart" demo and you said:
"The My Heart song was completely different, this was a never before heard of song, the SYW set at Siuox City was the same goddamn set that FM played nearly every night of 2003 / 2004." (I wont add a comment about the "goddamn set that FM played nearly every night" now)
"...because you mentioned 'My Heart', I think that was a slightly different situation"
Remember who refused to share the "My Heart" demo? Hmmmm......let me think about it! Could it be possible that our Melanie appears here again? YES! She had the demo on a CD and then she converted it to a mp3 snippet (oh no, why did se convert it to mp3 and why doesn't she share this snippet over bittorrent) to tell the world: Look whatv I have here and you will never get it! She refused to trade the CD, because she knew that we would like to have the demo (not me that much, but a lot of other users even here)
And now please tell me that you think it was right what she did! I know that it was not right what I did, but she has done worse things! It is not about that particular show anymore, it is an discussion about mp3 vs. shn/flac files and it is forgotten that Melanie has been respectless to all of us when she had something what we wanted and she refused to trade/upload it for us! Even worse, she uploaded a snippet to tell us what we will never hear! Now that's what maked me think that she hates sharing!
And the point that as long as I post those mp3, people refuse to upload now torrent to the site! WTF? The biggest ever! Has there ever been more torrents on a short time like it was on the last day? Hell no!

Huh? Mabye! But that is what the seeder has written on the EZBoard "So if there are a lot circulating that are mp3 sourced, you may want to wait till somebody checks." I am pretty sure he expected to it be lossy, but that is just a detail!)
6 bootlegs in two days! I actually don't care anymore if Melanie refuses to post bootlegs anymore as long as there is so much new stuff posted!
As I said, I am not going to post new tracks from "Don't convert to mp3" bootlegs anymore, excpet this bootleg! And don't ever think about saying I don't respect the tapers requests as a reason that I mustn't post the bootleg anymore! It was not his request, it was Melanie's request! I dobn't care about her and her "I like all German people but he is giving all Fleetwood fans a bad rep."-stuff! Something like this makes me feel embarassed that she was born in the same country as I! If I have gotten a rare song, the first thing I would do is share it and not telling the world you will never get it!

David you're making a lot of mistatements in your post including the part about the My Heart song being held by the same person as the Sioux City show. The people who got the got the Sioux City show out are guys not girls. The My Heart song was a different person. I had that show before it was on the torrent and I agreed not to convert it or trade it as mp3. I could have done that a bunch of times. I kept my promise not to convert it and so did everybody else who got this show before you. I'm glad you changed your mind about not offering the new torrent shows for mp3 download. A bunch of us on this board want to get more shows on the torrent site. There was a thread about starting a Fleetwood Mac torrent site. Maybe you'd like to help out? We all want to share. It's all good.

I am trying to download five torrents, but all of them are "queued." Is this normal? Shouldn't I at least have one downloading? The torrents are:
Stevie Nicks US Festival
Cloaks and Daggers
Sioux City 2003
Buffalo 2003
Salt Lake City 1987.
Should I be concerned?
Note: The other torrents that I have already downloading are uploading just fine.

Check your settings, you could be set to download a maximum amount. Like for instance.. I have my bitcomet set at 10 download/uploads. So if you have too many going at once, they will end up in your queue until a slot is available.

I set my number of downloads to unlimited and still nothing (it was at 2 - but since 0 were downloading, I don't think that was the problem anyway). Unless you're talking about another setting?
Maybe I should re-install.
Edit: Reinstallation fixed the problem. Too bad I wasted a day of downloading trying to solve it by other means!

Yeah... I noticed that too. There is a full version of the full show out there... I have it on mp3 but not .wav sourced.
Baton Rouge, LA contains no apparent blips/gaps between track transitions, So it's more than likely not mp3 sourced (Helpful hint-If a recording has gaps/blips between track transitions it is more-than-likely MP3 sourced).
Wished a pristine DAO recording of the Nov.6,1979 show would appear, But each version I have heard contain the same errors/cuts on tracks...Hopefully the one posted on easytree 'may' be the one.

She's the one who inserted all those cuts into the soundboards whenever she'd put them up for sale, so all circulating copies have the cuts. That was her modus operandi when she ripped CD-Rs of all of them. Hence the widespread hatred of her.

I'm not going to get my hopes up on the upgrade just yet... Man, this show is popular, there's 115 people leeching this show from one seeder. Tomorrow would actually be a better day to jump on this once those leechers become seeders themselves.

I dont have...I checked and I could find it in my collection, So who knows
You do have it, Brian - it's another version of "Who's the New Girl" only they're missing different songs. Would it be blasphemous to patch the two shows together, I wonder?

I am amazed out of my mind! Mp3's do suck ass! LOL. I just downloaded a copy of the St. Louis '79 show! The copy I have is MP3 and this on is lossless! AND IT IS WONDERFUL! Much better. They say the quality is A+ and damn right it is. Fresh and clear sounding!
Although I really DONT hate MP3's I will hate them when I trade though! I will still download and post them!

WOW!
I am amazed out of my mind! Mp3's do suck ass! LOL. I just downloaded a copy of the St. Louis '79 show! The copy I have is MP3 and this on is lossless! But the show was originally sold in lossless (CD-R audio) format. That's nothing new for any of the soundboards (except for Sydney 3-15-80 & some of the sdbds that Tiff ripped directly to MP3). The question is whether the bit torrent version includes those terrible cuts.
My hunch is that it does -- unless Maureen herself decided recently to seed the show directly from her master, & fat chance of that happening.
I have a direct cassette dupe of the master of 3-15-80, which I could send to someone who wants to seed it. Just holler via PM. I also have lossless cassettes of Memphis '82 & Melbourne '80, although I think those were originally sold lossless, too.

Maybe I don't need the St.Louis show then...I'm starting to wonder if the copy on easytree may have been sourced from the copy that has been long floating around (Having sound glitches on Rhiannon is a giveaway that it may possibly be.)

Yeah, the only difference I noticed of the Torrent St. Louis show compared to the one that I had is that there are fades in and out at the end of the tracks which just cuts out the abrupt end of tracks like Rhiannon. On the show I had, it would just stop and immediately start into the next song. This at least tries to smooth the transition. But yeah... it's still not a complete solid recording.
I'm happy to have it though. I don't know the source of the discs I had - whether or not they are mp3 sourced or not, so for me this is somewhat of an upgrade.
And I hope someone [with the know how] takes you up on your offer of the cassettes David!

that sounds similar to a version I made of the St.Louis show, I faded the tracks out/in instead of having the abrupt stoppages/starts & tracks cuts ruin the sound of the show.

She's the one who inserted all those cuts into the soundboards whenever she'd put them up for sale, so all circulating copies have the cuts. That was her modus operandi when she ripped CD-Rs of all of them. Hence the widespread hatred of her.
Do you know if this the reason why the 12/01/77 Japan show is missing the first part of Gold Dust Woman?

Do you know if this the reason why the 12/01/77 Japan show is missing the first part of Gold Dust Woman?I don't think so, Nancy. Maureen had nothing to do with that show. It's an audience tape that surfaced only recently; must have just come from the collection of some person who was in a deep freeze.
A few months ago here, we posted a list of all the soundboards we knew about that came via Maureen. I don't know how to search old threads. As far as I know, essentially any soundboards we have were first circulated between 1998 & 2002 by Maureen as auctions or direct sales to customers. I know of just a couple of exceptions -- Mobile 8-11-80, Baton Rouge 10-13-82, Houston 11-12-87, Salt Lake City 11-28-87 & Las Vegas 12-04-87 -- that showed up (or will show up) as various people had dealings with Frank Harding first-hand or second-hand (like Tiff).
But even some of those exceptions (like "Angel" & "Monday Morning" from Mobile & "Sara" & "Hold Me" from Baton Rouge) first showed up on Maureen compilation CD-Rs, probably taken herself from a cassette or reel or some master source.
Another exception might be the Buckingham Nicks stuff from 1974 (or 1975) -- Maureen appears not to have had anything to do with that. But I don't even know whether that's actually soundboard or not. It's certainly not audience-recorded, but maybe it's taped directly via mics, like the way concerts used to be recorded for public broadcast.
At least one other concert should show up in its entirety or near-entirety: The Meadowlands, Sept. 1982. It's lying around somewhere.

From the textfile of the recent Buckingham Nicks live torrent ("Lola", "Races" and "Rhiannon") at Easytree:
These files came from a CD a friend of mine burned for me
which came from a reel to reel copy of the master reel.
My friend taped this show from the board, and the rest exists somewhere and
is being sought out. He says he is "pretty sure" he made a copy for himself and gave the master directly to Lindsay Buckingham.
So it's likely that the entire show still exists somewhere on a few 12-minute long reel-to-reel tapes.

I have a question. Now that I have finished downloading, I changed my uploading speed to unlimited (before I had it at 10 in order to hasten my downloading lol). However, it's still going very slowly - my current upload speed is 5!! Is it because I am seeding so many (currently 13, although I have 25 available). How can I adjust it so that I can upload faster? I am the only one seeding the Champaign DVD and at this rate those poor leechers will never get it!
MacMan
01-15-2005, 04:44 PM
I think if you leave it at unlimited, it will take your files as fast as it can and will adjust itself (hopefully higher). I don't think there is a way to pass what you have any faster then what it gives it on it's own. That's my experience anyway... Could be a long haul!

Lindsey Buckingham first solo show pre - FM flac
http://www.easytree.org/torrents-details.php?id=23000
Lindsey Buckingham played his first-ever solo shows on Dec. 12 and 13, 1992, at two semi-secret gigs at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano. His first solo tour was coming up and these were basically two warm-up shows. They weren't allowed to advertise his name, so the ads just said "special guest" (although Lindsey did do one interview in the Orange County Register).
I went to the first of the two sold-out shows. It was packed with fans and also very heavy on Warner Bros Records executives. Very small stage, and Lindsey had three or four guitarists besides himself, if memory serves. Show was very much like you'll hear here -- great versions of solo stuff, great Mac tunes.
It wasn't till after the show that a friend at the club told me Westwood One had taped it for broadcast. That broadcast has been out on bootleg for quite a while.
This is not only a pre-FM, but it's pre-mixdown. My friend got her friend at Westwood One to give her a copy of the show days after it happened. She was given a cassette taken straight off the rough master -- rough edits between songs, etc.
I took that cassette and mastered it straight to CDR, getting rid of the rough edits and making it flow. There are good versions of this show out there, but I don't think they get any better than this one.
There were snippets of two instrumentals on the tape, but just a few seconds of each. I did not include them.
Artwork is stuff I made myself, very crude. Sorry.
Although the date on the art says Dec. 12, both nights were taped and the eventual broadcast was a combo of both. I have no idea which songs come from which night on this.
Lineage: Westwood One rough mix master > cassette tape > CDR.

WRONG - LIVE
Wow, how cool is this, we get a never before heard of live version of WRONG!
I've sat here all morning patiently waiting for the download to complete, half believing that the taper had the track name wrong (excuse the pun) and half hoping that it was right, and it is.
I wonder why Westwood One never aired this track on the broadcast and why Lindsey dropped the track? maybe he was unhappy with it. I know that he was not happy with how Countdown came accross live so it was never played live other then a few radio and TV promo shows.
This really makes my weekend, wonderful stuff!

If yes... Just leave it as is... You've already clicked it once to initiate the show. The show hasn't been seeded yet, once it has, then your download will start automatically... Brian, not sure if it's got the gaps or not... it was just put up for download this evening... and for some reason, it's not seeded... But the guy/girl who's seeding is also doing the Stevie and the Memphis one... so maybe there was a problem.. or it just hasn't been activated yet. hmmmm... It's been sitting there doing nothing for way too much time, that's not normal.

hear some of the metal shows that are listed at easytree...Ab-so-lute-ly sick and will help to make me even more deaf than I am already considered (Btw, That's a joke!)
The Megadeth 2004 & Pantera Holland 1998 are 2 of the best metal shows I have heard in quite awhile.

that. I am interested to see if a lossless OKC show has finally appearred (I think I knew who used to have a master tape/copy of the '77 OKC show considering how often I heard those tracks growing up on a radio station in Tulsa.)
I am going to need more blanks discs cause I need to transfer lossless versions of the 2004 California SYW dates I have on DVD, trade 'em and have someone list 'em on easytree.

You guys are aware that Maureen originally sold these soundboards as audio CD-Rs, right? The problem isn't finding non-MP3-sourced; the problem is that Maureen butchered every last one of them. In fact, this particular show was labeled "Oakland" -- I'm the one who told her it was Oklahoma City, & then I posted the corrected info to Usenet.
If track times are provided, post them here. That's the sure-fire tipoff.

that I found out that some of the 1977 Japan Backstage footage I have on 3 DVD's is possibly stuff that Maureen once possessed.
Yeah, The dead giveaway on the 1977 show being OKC instead of Oakland is Stevie's dedication during "Landslide".
A short question David, Where was the May 13,1977 footage shot at for the promo videos of "Dont Stop" & "Dreams"?

Say WHAT, Brian?!
You heard the 5-18-77 soundboard on a radio station in Tulsa?
KMOD 97.5 (The Rainbow Station...A great station that went from the best station in Oklahoma to sucking ass due in parts to "certain company buying 'em out") used to play a great majority of this show, I remember specifically "Dreams", "Oh Well", "Landslide", "Over My head", "Go Your Own way" & "Blue Letter" being played on the air and the DJ's stating the songs played were from the 1977 show in OKC.
KMOD used to play all kinds of stuff that seemed strange for a station to have:
"Amanda" by Boston, back as early as late 1984 (The song officially was not released until 1986's "Third Stage")
All kinds of professionally recorded live tracks recorded at major Oklahoma shows throughout the 70's-80's (Tracks from the OK Jam, Led Zep, Van Halen, Leon Russell, ZZ Top, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty and even tracks from Fleetwood Mac's 1979 date in OKC.)

that I found out that some of the 1977 Japan Backstage footage I have on 3 DVD's is possibly stuff that Maureen once possessed. It's beyond question. Devilwoman sold those on VHS tape about six or seven years ago. First time they made their appearance as a unit like that.
Yeah, The dead giveaway on the 1977 show being OKC instead of Oakland is Stevie's dedication during "Landslide".That & the fact that the band played OKC on 5-18-77, according to the itinerary. It was labeled "Oakland" because the seller sold the Oakland 10-20-82 soundboard at the same time, & she was never one for proofreading her work.
A short question David, Where was the May 13,1977 footage shot at for the promo videos of "Dont Stop" & "Dreams"?I didn't know it was May 13. I took the "Paris soundcheck" from the liner notes at face value (like "London" for "Rhiannon") & assumed it was from the Paris show or shows they did in early April 1977. Christine's comment at the end of "Don't Stop" is the kind of thing you'd say at a soundcheck -- it rings true.
Where'd you hear May 13? That's interesting. They played May 11 in El Paso, May 14 in Houston & May 15 in Fort Worth. So if they filmed a soundcheck on May 13, chances are it was in Texas.

Sounds as if they had somebody at the Fairgrounds Arena or the Assembly Center taping bands for them -- probably passing the tapes back under the table.
Ever tried to dig up those tapes in the station archives? They're probably unrecoverable -- or dust -- at this point.

I still have a bunch of material (Bruce, U2, Van Halen & Boston) to go through after I finish the Fleetwood Mac 1980 shows I am currently working on...Not including trasnferring a few more 2004 SYW shows to CDR.

Fleetwood Mac Helsinki 1969 FLAC (http://www.easytree.org/torrents-details.php?id=24231)
Kulttuuritalo, Helsinki, Finland 24.9.1969 43 min A-
FM? – Cassette – CDR – EAC – FLAC
This one is from a FM source (I think). There’s also other tape-sourced CDRs from Fleetwood Mac's gigs in Helsinki with more tracks, but they’re much worse in quality. This source is easily the best I’ve heard, some problems with the tape, but nothing serious.
The band is tight and Peter Green is stunning for instance on Got A Mind To Give Up Living. Danny Kirwan and Jeremy Spencer have their special moments, too.
CD
1. Homework
2. Man Of The World,
3. Like It This Way,
4. Only You,
5. I Believe My Time Ain't Long,
6. Stranger Blues,
7. Got A Mind To Give Up Living,
8. Oh Well,
9. Comin' Your Way,
10. Albatross,
11. Great Balls Of Fire
Peter Green - Guitar, Vocals
Jeremy Spencer - Guitar, Piano, Vocals

started to list "Source/Lineage" info of their bootlegs on their websites? I know Neil showed me a sample recently and I started to do the same (Especially for the shows I transferred from tape to disc).
It helps to list "Source/Lineage" to eliminate any poor quality show from being passed around thus poluting the trade circles even more...

I've started listing this info on my site. Right now it's on the flac/shn shows that I've downloaded, which clearly states the lineage. For the others. I'm just starting to work with EAC to check the recording integrity of my other cds - that could take some time.
But I agree... The origins of the recording is nice to know.

Eh, forget it. I'll just go out and buy a blasted DVD burner later today. This **** is too much of a pain in my ass.

Diss, I tried to make this **** work for WEEKS! My cd burner died, so, I went out and bought a DVD burner, which the company said my system would support. Nope! I had to return it, and buy another cd burner. My puter's about 5 years old, and my processor had "data transfer issues" with the DVD burner(not fast enough). So, beware, if your computer's gettin' wrinkles...

I can do audio torrents just fine and I can download and view DVD torrents just fine, but converting VOB files to MPEG? Bitch, please.
I just got a new comp last year, so I should be good to go. And when I got DSL last week, I updated XP, so I should be all set.

I've got DSL, and 100gig harddrive, so downloading the torrents wasn't my problem(they're sitting in my computer, unseen :( ). Since I couldn't burn DVDs, converting them to MPEG was the problem, as is yours!
I, too, downloaded 56 f*cking programs, failing everytime.... Funk dat!

The LiteOn burner is fabulous, dear, and very cheap. The software is incredibly easy to use (it's Nero) and it burns very smoothly and quietly. I downloaded Franz Ferdinand's Glastonbury Festival DVD from EasyTree (along with some killer Bowie), burned it the other night, and it's top notch. Not a single skip or anything. You can even encode the audio into surround sound or Dolby Digital.

Back in the mid-1980s I picked up a 2-vinyl Fleetwood Mac Brazilian boot in a local used record store and immediately transferred it to cassette. I described the album, art, etc. to a knowledgeable Machead (you know who you are!) and he surmised that I had the first release of the boot commonly known as "Hollywood" or "Hollywood Live," which was recorded at Trod Nossel studios in Wallingford, CT.
Anyway, these are the original .wav files from that cassette. I don't grade my stuff, but I've seen the MP3 rips of these files posted as "A" quality. I've also included art that I made from scans of the original album jacket.
Enjoy!

Once the tracks have been compressed to FLAC or SHN you can create the torrent file via MakeTorrent http://krypt.dyndns.org:81/torrent/maketorrent/index.phtml remember that the announce URL for easytree is http://bt.easytree.org/announce.php. Use the classic view and point at the parent folder where the FLAC / SHN files are and it will create the torrect.
Then the torrent is uploaded to Easytree, you then re-download it and start seeding.

Do I need to record the tracks off the CD as .wav first, then convert to .shn or .flac? Or is there a way I can go straight to .flac?
I believe you can configure EAC to compress to SHN direct from CD, but I was not very happy with the results. I convert to wave using EAC and then convert to FLAC using FLAC FrontEnd

video to disc transfers for so long it's almost second nature now...One of the good things about owning self-contained burners is that I can hook any one of my 3 DVD players (Or any of my electronics...Hell, I even hook my DigiTech RP80 guitar's effect pedal to my burners to jam through my stereo system without use of a pre-amp) to do transfers without using some PC based program.
I hope people enjoy the show...I have others available

Hey guys,
When I upload a show and start seeding it, what's the rule on how long I should be seeding it?
MacMan
02-09-2005, 11:09 AM
The rule is pretty much that you need to upload your show at least once to someone else. Once someone else has downloaded completely they themselves can keep their window open as a seeder to be able to pass onto others that are downloading.
You are able to disconnect and come back to it later if you like, some people seem to do that. Others will continue uploading there show (at least once) until it's finished.
Does that make sense?

Yes, it does, thanks! :D
I have the show all set as a torrent file (I think  ), all I need to do is upload it and start seeding. I'll probably do it tonight or tomorrow night that way I can I just leave it on when I go to bed.

Nancy, I just looked and found the torrent you started. I appears on screen to be fine... and I may not be a lot of help. But it looks like you aren't seeding the show. There are no seeders. There's 5 leechers already though. Uploading the torrent is one part of it, but you need to keep seeding the show at least once to pass it on.
Anyone else with a little more experience with uploading that might be able to help????

Did you re-download your torrent after uploading it? And what torrent program are you using? You may need to tell the torrent program that you are a seeder.
BTW - Did you get my e-mail about the single mix of Thrown Down and Say You Will (cold mix)?

I tried to download it, but nothing happened. It showed me one of the leechers with no seeders.
I'm using Azureus. I can't find where to tell it I'm a seeder.
I can't understand how people are finding it - it's not visible, I thought. Why does it already have leechers? I'm worried I'll generate hostility. Some of these torrent downloaders seem pretty impatient.
Oh, and I haven't checked my SodaScouts e-mail for a couple days now. I'll do it when I get home from work in three hours. I'll try this torrent thing again, too.
THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING.

The torrent file must be re-downloaded and then this must be opened in your torrent program on your PC.
I don't seed new torrents with Azureus, but maybe the if you right click the torrent whilst it's running in Azureus and select host or publish it will start playing ball. Does anyone else use Azureus to seed new torrents?

You either have a firewall problem or you don't have settings on for being a seeder. You have to change your options or settings if this is the first time you've seeded and you've only downloaded before. I don't know anything about Azureus, but with BitTornado you have to change settings to make yourself a seeder or superseeder. You also have to download your own file first after putting on the tracker. It won't upload from the file made by the torrent maker. You have to download your own file off the tracker before others can get it.

Turns out I didn't understand the way to seed through Azureus correctly, but after some internet surfing (which I would have done last night if it hadn't been so late!) I figured out what I was doing wrong.
Thanks for the all the help, guys. Sorry to be such an ignoramus!
Anyway, it appears to be successfully seeding now. Grab it if you want it, but remember, this won't be the beautiful, clear stuff Neil put up. This is the rough stuff! I put a disclaimer on the description because I didn't want angry EasyTree downloaders complaining about the quality.

Notes:
A while ago I saw someone requesting for more Spencer/Kirwan era Mac so here's one from that particular period. Not as great sound quality-wise as Mr. Carville's seed last year (Fillmore East 1970-08-07), I'd rate the sound on this one as B- at best but I still find this listenable. And since there isn't that many bootlegs available from this period you might want to grab this anyway!
The cd-r I ripped this from also includes some BBC Session recordings by this line-up, but those have been omitted because they're commercially available on the Madison Blues boxset that was released in 2003.

Yeah, but Easy Tree has a no MP3 allowed rule; they want only lossless material to be spread because they want to preserve the quality of the original recordings. It seems only fair that people abide by the rules if they're going to use the torrent services provided by Easy Tree. :)

This post isn't meant to start a fight between purists and everyone else. Understood? I'm only trying to figure out why there's a difference of opinion when it comes to sharing material in the fan community. Can someone help me understand something? I use easytree and I don't consider myself a purist, but I do consider myself an honorable trader. I would never take a torrent and do something the seeder or taper asked me not to do, if that was a condition for taking a show. Also, I would not upload material which didn't abide by the lossless rules of the trade site. Why do others feel differently? I'm willing to hear reasonable disagreements about this issue. I'm not saying I'm right.
Besides the people who only care about one thing...what they can get...will somebody explain why anyone would join easytree if they don't care about quality? The reason the site exists is to trade lossless audio and quality video. Mp3s are not allowed according to the rules. I know a lot of people don't care about rules. Trading boots in itself is against the rules, so does that mean when it comes to circulating boots, anything goes? Forget rules? Am I the only one who thinks, if nothing else, it's bad manners to join easytree to get material from people who ask certain rules be followed, if your prevailing attitude is...don't share if you don't want me doing whatever I want after I get it?
I understand why a lot of people trade mp3s. I have nothing against it. What I don't understand is why some people want to straddle the fence when it comes to sharing. People want everyone sharing, but as soon as something is shared people claim the right to do whatever they want with it. Ok, that's you're right, but it's also the main reason why I won't upload my Fleetwood Mac shows to easytree.
Jacob, I have a lot of good quality dvds I'd love to share, but I know the first people downloading my show will be those who not only have never uploaded anything to easytree, but who'd have no shame posting here in defense of their "rights" by saying...if you don't like what we do with a show, don't share it. My only answer to that is...Ok. I won't.
Am I being shelfish and arrogant? To me, there's a principle involved. Fans should do their best to support one another, imo. Why is the practice of sharing a one-way street? Shouldn't it be a give and take? If you take, shouldn't you give up the "right" to do what you please, if the person sharing with you asks you to follow certain guidelines? Shouldn't the people committed to sharing on mp3 sites, also be just as supportive of honoring lossless trading when requested? Why does one position have to cancel out the other?
Spare me the flames if all you want to do is argue. As much as l love a good argument about most things :D , on this issue, I'm not into it. I'm honestly trying to clear the air and accomplish something positive, if possible. So, if I'm wrong and you have a reasonable position to articulate, let me have it. I can listen to reason. If I'm wrong, set me straight and I'll shut up about it. I think we'd be doing everyone in the fan community a favor if we could find some common ground when it comes to guidelines for sharing. I know there will always be those who only care about what they can get. Other than you guys, anyone else who supports the anything goes position when it comes to sharing, please help me get my mind right with y'all.

This post isn't meant to start a fight between purists and everyone else.
I was totally joking by using the term "purist." I'm not. I still listen to mp3's. I was just giving Homer a hard time.
That said, I love the quality of the stuff that is on easytree and am very appreciative of the tracker. I think it is a very small price to pay to abide by their rules and am happy to do so. :)

I especially find this confusing since you're talking about DVDs and not the audio shows. I understand some people have a possessiveness about their shows and don't want there to be any degraded copy of it in existence on the planet Earth. Even the possibility of having their wonderful audio converted to MP3 makes them break out into a cold sweat. I don't share that obsessive mentality, but it has a certain neurotic logic. You, on the other hand, are talking about DVDs, where that isn't an issue... leaving nothing but the punishment principle as your reasoning, I guess. Correct me if I'm wrong.
The quality of DVDs can be degraded just as much as audio by shrinking them. It's a common practice and I've received quite a few sub-par DVDs due to people being too cheap to leave them as multiple discs and wanting to save money by putting them on only one.

It seems that this person who uploaded the GOS/SYW MP3s was unaware of the rule against such things. Otherwise why would he shamelessly put that he got it from an MP3 source? It seems he was probably working under the mistaken belief that the site existed for the sharing of any kind of audio, not just for lossless audio. I mistakenly said the MP3s were banned earlier. Actually, he's just no longer seeding, so he probably has realized his mistake and is pretty embarrassed about it - unless he's replied since I've looked.
I too hope everyone will follow the rules, but I also make allowances for human error. If he "maliciously" did this to prove a point, shame on him, but it's not going to make me lose sleep at night. I just delete it.
I find this surprising! I never would have guessed you would hoarde and punish everyone in order to make a point to a few, especially since you're keen on taking advantage of other peoples' uploads. I guess we should be glad other people don't have your high principles, eh?

Well, it's your right to do what you want... it's just from your previous posts I got the impression you hoped there would be more uploads in spite of this, which would be pretty hypocritical if you yourself didn't upload because of it. I guess I misunderstood.
You are wrong and you did misunderstand me. I never said I don't or won't share my material. People who know me understand that's not the case. I don't take without giving back. I did say I won't share Fleetwood Mac shows on easytree. I never said I don't share anything there, or that I won't upload other things to easytree. My gripe is with the people in the Mac community who want everything shared with no constraints on anything. I don't understand what you mean by the punishment principle? I don't care about punishment. Just because I choose not to torrent my Mac stuff doesn't mean I won't share. I prefer not to share with the world as long as our own trade community feels...don't share unless it's with no strings. This is where you need to convince me it's me being selfish and wanting to hoard (not true) rather than me having a problem with people who don't want to follow any rules at all.
Oh, and I agree about the person who put the GOS mp3s on easytree. He/She probably didn't know it was against the rules. I don't believe in flaming people who make honest mistakes, but the least people can do is read the rules on a site before using it. Still, I don't think people should suffer some of the flaming the purists do when people try to share and make newbie mistakes. Some people at that site can be really rude.

When I was talking about "the punishment principle" I meant you were punishing Mac fans by refusing to share Mac stuff on EasyTree. I was surprised that you would do that when you want others to torrent there Mac stuff.
When did I say I wanted others to torrent stuff? Jacob said that, not me.

So if someone put up a show that you didn't have, you wouldn't download it?
Pardon me, I don't mean to be rude. What has that got to do with anything? I didn't say that. I said I couldn't care less if people upload.
Incase everyone doesn't know this, all members who uses easytree don't upload. Most people don't know how to upload or initiate a seed. Do you? You don't have to upload in order to share. All you have to do is share your downloads with others. I do that. What I'm not going to do is go to the trouble of learning how to make a torrent, prepare it, upload it, and then have some wise-ass come back at me saying... "haha! I got your show and now kiss my ass if you expect me to honor any guidelines you posted in your download. Don't upload if you don't want to share with no strings attached."
You can say I'm being stubborn or controlling. Maybe I'll agree? I won't agree to you saying I'm hoarding or punishing everyone because I don't care to share with the wise-asses. Why do you think everyone should share with no strings attached? That's the question I was hoping someone would answer.

This person you're talking to . . . I can't understand what she's saying, for the most part . . . but she may have different principles.
But maybe the whole question is easier to settle if you consider it logistically. I don't use the bit torrent system -- I never looked seriously into it -- but as long as lossless versions of material are kept within that system, is it that destructive to have lossy versions circulate in other areas? In other words, the people who want a lossless set of TISL demos know where to find it & know that they have to learn something about bit torrent in order to use the system. Others who don't care about the sound quality -- or don't care enough to spend time & effort getting into bit torrent -- know they can pick up their degraded MP3s on Web sites like BlueWhiteFire or SLN-Info or SaraRhiannon.
It seems a little bit like the movie colorizing argument: I've always felt that as long as I know where to go & what to do to get hold of the director's velvety B&W vision, I don't care whether Atlanta Superstation broadcasts it in "color" or not.
Does this all parse?

I see what you're saying and think you have a point, but the thing is that there is still a majority of the trading community (not just Fleetwood Mac, I'm speaking in general about the entire bootleg trading community) who have never even heard of bit torrents, let alone know where to look for them.
A few months ago, I traded with a guy for some Blondie bootlegs and he had asked me about certain Mac boots that he had gotten in a previous trade, complaining that he was sent MP3 sourced shows, wasn't told, and he wanted to know where if any lossless version were available. I didn't have an answer for him because at this point, old shows have been ripped and traded so frequently via MP3 that finding many of the actual shows in lossless format is impossible.
People don't realize that you shouldn't be trading MP3s in the first place, that it's proper etiquette for you to hang onto the MP3s that you have instead of spreading them around because it muddys the water. Download them, enjoy them, but don't trade them. So, now we're saddled with tons of shows where the quality varies significantly from copy to copy, no one has any idea where to get a master/lossless copy, and the crappy copies continue to make the rounds while getting ripped a hundred times over in the process. Whereas you may have a clear copy of a show, my copy may sound tinny, as if it was recorded in a tin can.
People are wondering why no Fleetwood Mac/Stevie/Lindsey shows are popping up regularly and it's because the general trading community sees their bootlegs as utter poison. Mac fans have rabidly traded MP3s and the like for years with no regard for sound and everyone else has caught onto it; they know not to go near Mac boots because, by default, they're automatically going to be lesser quality than the original recording. Keep trading MP3s and don't be surprised when the well finally dries up and the people who have the real quality stuff keep it to themselves instead of letting it all get chopped to bits. And it will happen if people continue to spread low-quality stuff.
It simply isn't an issue that just affects die-hard Mac boot traders, it affects the whole trading community and people who may even have one Mac show in their collection.

I'm learning more about BT little by little, thanks to you guys (btw, where is FaceOfGlass?). I still have some questions, so I hope nobody minds.
A few months ago, I traded with a guy for some Blondie bootlegs and he had asked me about certain Mac boots that he had gotten in a previous trade, complaining that he was sent MP3 sourced shows, wasn't told, and he wanted to know where if any lossless version were available. I didn't have an answer for him because at this point, old shows have been ripped and traded so frequently via MP3 that finding many of the actual shows in lossless format is impossible.I can understand being unhappy about getting an MP3-sourced show if that show was still in circulation (on EasyTree or elsewhere) in a lossless format. It would mean that somebody took the easy (not the Easy) way out, & maybe tried to pull a fast one on me or just couldn't be bothered to be honest on his end of the trade.
But when old Fleetwood Mac concerts were circulating to begin with on cassette tapes -- & dozens upon dozens of them were -- what's the difference? In fact, I'd rather get hold of a very old show that's been converted into MP3 sooner rather than later.
I bought (yes bought) my very first FM audience tape way back in 1979, I think. It was the Osaka 12-04-77 show. It sounded pretty bad then & it sounds even worse these days. It's been transferred from cassette to cassette for so long that any original source is virtually unrecoverable. I maintain that going from one cassette to another, on even the best recording equipment, is more harmful to the quality than to pass around MP3s of it. After all, once it's lossy, it's lossy, right? Except that it can degrade even further the more you make analog copies of it. That right there is a neverending degradation. The sooner fans can get their best magnetic tape copies converted into MP3, the better.
People don't realize that you shouldn't be trading MP3s in the first place, that it's proper etiquette for you to hang onto the MP3s that you have instead of spreading them around because it muddys the water. Download them, enjoy them, but don't trade them.Again, how is trading MP3s any worse than trading magnetic tape? As I said above, I maintain that it's actually preferable -- far preferable. And when we're talking about a show like Osaka '77, what do the high-end traders want? There is no lossless version of it in existence (unless we're talking about the actual human being who recorded the show). I see the anti-MP3 argument a lot more clearly if we're talking about shows that were recorded on the last tour, & haven't in some cases even touched a magnetic tape medium -- or have touched it once at the most.
So, now we're saddled with tons of shows where the quality varies significantly from copy to copy, no one has any idea where to get a master/lossless copy, and the crappy copies continue to make the rounds while getting ripped a hundred times over in the process.Again, Diss, this sounds like the system that was in place twenty-five years ago, when I was trading magnetic tapes. During a tour (if you were plugged into the fans), you got a tape in the mail, you ran with it to your dual cassette deck, started making copies (lemme tell ya, we used to howl with rage in the old days if people used NORMAL bias instead of HIGH) & then mailed those copies to our fan friends. On & on it went. When you got your tape, you generally didn't know how many rounds it had made already, unless you got it from the person who taped it. So I don't see the current situation with MP3 as being a step down from those days -- if anything, it's a step up because we're at least dealing with digital reproduction, which doesn't degrade (it only degrades when you compress), & at the very worst, it's about equal to the old ways.
Whereas you may have a clear copy of a show, my copy may sound tinny, as if it was recorded in a tin can.Exactly! I remember asking FaceOfGlass last year about this. I said that the concept of BT is great if you can get hold of the root of the generation tree, or something from the trunk. But once you're out on one of those limbs, you're sunk.
But it's always been that way with Fleetwood Mac audience recordings. It's just that only very rarely did trading communities find out about it. I got that first show of mine in 1979 & the avalanche just built up strength from there. The tapes were varying degrees of poor: very poor, somewhat poor, or in the best cases, only slightly poor. They've always been bad. This comes up even today. Nobody can find a really excellent Wild Heart audience tape! A few are good, many are average, & several are awful -- & they were all like that during the Wild Heart tour trading! I can vouch for that.
Keep trading MP3s and don't be surprised when the well finally dries up and the people who have the real quality stuff keep it to themselves instead of letting it all get chopped to bits. And it will happen if people continue to spread low-quality stuff. That is definitely unfortunate. I would hate to see wonderful things in people's hands not surface -- I've always worried about that. I'm on record from the early '80s as worrying about that. But does it mean that the BTers are angry about getting MP3s of a twenty-five-year-old audience tape? That's what I still don't understand.
It simply isn't an issue that just affects die-hard Mac boot traders, it affects the whole trading community and people who may even have one Mac show in their collection.Of course, it goes without saying that anyone using the BT system should abide by the rules of that system. That's precisely the point: people are taking already crappy sources (in this case, cassettes that have been copied over and over and over) and degrading the quality even more by converting them to MP3. For example, take a cassette and record one of the songs as a WAV file, a lossless format. Then take the WAV file, which could be anywhere from 20 MBs to 50 MBs or more, and convert it into an MP3 file using, let's say 168kbps, and look at the dramatic difference in file size. Just imagine how much of the original recording has been lost now that you've converted it into an MP3 file.
So, you're right to want to get MP3s sooner than later, but it would be nice to not get them at all if you truly want everything that was originally recorded.
I bought (yes bought) my very first FM audience tape way back in 1979, I think. It was the Osaka 12-04-77 show. It sounded pretty bad then & it sounds even worse these days. Yup, but converting them to MP3 makes an already lossy source even lossier. (I could hardly even type that with a straight face because it sounded so ridiculous  ) Don'r rip it as an MP3, rip it as a WAV file (which 99% of MP3 ripper allow you to do) and you'll prevent losing ANYTHING. But if people did that, they wouldn't be able to post or trade their MP3s because the files would be much larger.
Again, how is trading MP3s any worse than trading magnetic tape? As I said above, I maintain that it's actually preferable -- far preferable. And when we're talking about a show like Osaka '77, what do the high-end traders want? MP3s automatically compress the source file, though. If you want a true digital reproduction, rip it as a WAV file, burn it to a data or audio CD, and then delete the big WAV file from your computer.
If you are going to rip to MP3, try to go for the highest kbps number that you can in order to prevent from losing too much.
But it's always been that way with Fleetwood Mac audience recordings. It's just that only very rarely did trading communities find out about it. Yes, that's exactly it. MP3s are compressed versions of the originals and stuff is lost no matter what once something is encoded as an MP3. Their thinking is that if you're going to make a digital reproduction, reproduce it in a lossless format.
Of course, it goes without saying that anyone using the BT system should abide by the rules of that system. Plus, people who send a guy a tape of MP3-sourced tracks -- when that guy specifically requests NO MP3s -- are just rotten ****s.

I agree with both of you. The old stuff, especially the old tape trades, that's not my argument. It's another thing altogether to muddy up the gene pool of new Mac sources. When people go to the trouble of capturing good audio and video, then are generous enough to share it, why is it beyond reason to ask the community not to convert the material to lesser formats? I know a lot of people can't do torrents. I sympathize with people who don't have the ability to download from torrent sites. I still maintain if someone shares something and asks the material not be changed in order to spread it around (whether as a trade, download, giveaway, whatever) that sharer's wishes should be honored. It's a small thing to ask.

Exactly.
There's also the issue of new bootlegs surfacing. For example, new SYW shows and stuff get torrented with a strict no MP3s allowed rule, the torrents are then burned to CD, they get traded, and then there simply is no way of seeing what will happen to them later on down the road. A few months later, MP3s start popping up from people who either weren't told not to encode them or didn't care, and they start getting traded. Those without access to torrents trade for the MP3 sourced discs, think they're getting quality stuff, and continue to pass it around. Then one of those MP3 sourced discs gets ripped to MP3 again, etc. It's a never ending circle. That's why you MUST obey the rules of the torrenter and Easy Tree or else these new shows will be just as bad quality-wise as the old shows.
DVDs are what really is starting to bug me. If one more person leeches a multiple disc DVD torrent, shrinks the data, and puts them all on one DVD...I.Will.Scream.

Hola!
Very interesting discussion! Glad that I have NOT been involved! I just wanted to say that I created the GOS/SYW compilation about a half year ago (because I had so many demos of it and it is easier to have it as a bootleg) and posted it on my site for download then and I reposted it for the guy a few weeks ago! He burned it and then he converted it to FLAC and posted it there! The first thing I did when I saw it was PMing him and tell him that it isn't allowed to post mp3 sourced, and I also didn't report it, because I didn't want him to get banned! After that he wrote in the info that he had the bootleg from me and then it was quite clear that it was mp3-sourced and there were also a few people who didn't care about that! But there are people like Melanie (may she rot in hell) who accused me to have something to do with it, because my name was there! it has never been said that this compilation was NOT mp3 sourced!
I also think it is not right to trade mp3-sourced stuff without saying it's mp3-sourced! I actually have never traded before (I once tried, but I only had mp3-sourced stuff, so I didn't do it then), so I only download mp3s and BitTorrent, because I don't listen to most stuff at all! So mp3 downloading is the only way for me to get bootlegs and I am happy with it! So f I couldn't do BitTorrents, I would be happy if there were sites that post such stuff (even when it is ot allowed), because in the end the files end on my computer (if it is a good one then I maybe burn it, not more)! Most of the mp3 downloaders are that way! There are only a few who trade the stuff that they download, but most of them just burn it for themselves (or post the songs again)!
There will also be a discussion in 10 years about the loss of quality of CDs! Most bootlegs will be traded as Audio DVDs, because you can get a higher bitrate there and people will hate CDs, like they hate mp3s now!
Anyways, I hope I didn't offend anyone here (again in this thread)!

I admit I do trade MP3-sourced shows, but I indicate clearly that they are MP3-sourced so the person knows what they're getting. Many people don't care so I am trying to cater to both groups. I don't think that's wrong, but I understand why some would have a problem with it. The concerns expressed here are very legitimate, although I think I agree with David O. that MP3-sourcing, while not preferable of course, isn't the end of the world in the cases of old shows. I also agree with glitter_fades, however, that in the case of newer shows, it's something that needs to be addressed.
But the truth of the matter is that most of this poor trading comes from ignorance, not maliciousness or lack of concern about maintaining quality, and certainly not from a desire to be inconsiderate to others. You have your average person who's downloaded a bunch of shows from various sites. He/she sees other sites trading CDs and thinks "I have all these CDs, I can do that, too." It doesn't occur to them that their CDs are not the same quality and that they should tell someone that they got a show off of a download. It's all the same to them, and they assume it's all the same to everyone else. How do I know? Well - er - when I was a newbie, I thought this too. :o
I think this is also the case for this guy who put up the EasyTree MP3s - simple ignorance, not disregard for the rules. I thought about reporting him but since it seemed everyone knew it was MP3-sourced, it was unnecessary. Frankly I had suspected as much when I saw it.
I love the concept of EasyTree because it enables me to upgrade shows that I have already. The truth is most of my collection is MP3-sourced and I really want to change that. This is helping immensely! I'm so grateful for people who upload these shows, and it's too bad that some of them are not getting the respect and consideration they deserve for their unselfish act.
Glitter_fades, I'm sorry you feel you cannot upload. That saddens me. But you certainly don't OWE it to anyone to upload what you have. I think sometimes people forget that it's not an obligation to share, it's a choice, so if one doesn't choose to share, it's not a crime! We are not entitled to glitter_fade's collection, people! She can do what she wants with it, and it's not our right to judge her. (Although if I were you, glitter, I would've kept the fact that you have lots of goodies you're not sharing on the down-low! Now we're all jealous! lol)
BTW, I have a question. I have some shows that I downloaded months ago still on my hardrive that I wanted to seed them again, but it won't let me. It says that the URL is no longer valid. Other people are seeding it however, so I'm not sure why mine is no longer valid. Is there a time limit on how long you can go without seeding a show? I know if a show is inactive for a while, they take it off of EasyTree, but this show is still being seeded by others, so I don't know what the problem is.

Eek, I had Azureus and got rid of it ASAP because it kept crashing my system. And I heard it has spyware, which is probably what was crashing my computer. LOL
I use regular ole Bit Torrent from http://www.bittorrent.com . It doesn't have the fancy features that Azureus has, but it's a much smaller program and works better, IMO. When I go to seed a show, I click on the torrent link, the client pops up and asks you to select the folder that contains the torrent files, it checks to make sure that you have all of the files, and then seeds it. Not sure if it works the same with Azureus, though, because I only used Azureus a few times. :o

I also agree with glitter_fades, however, that in the case of newer shows, it's something that needs to be addressed.
at least you're honest about your discs being mp3 sourced, unlike others
I started as a newbie who quickly decided to make recordings I sourced from audio tape/DVD/etc to sound on the level of other artists such as Bruce Springsteen.
I only had 3 traders who helped me out when I first started:
Jennifer G., Sara M. & Brianna (Who was the 'Queen' of the FM/SN live trade circles IMO)...I still trade with Jennifer & Sara because they helped me out & I return the favor now when ever possible.
I have no problem sharing with newbies...Never have or will
I love the concept of EasyTree because it enables me to upgrade shows that I have already. The truth is most of my collection is MP3-sourced and I really want to change that. True, I found some of the best recordings on easytree...But not necessarily FM/SN recordings since I collect more than just Fleetwood Mac related material, especially as of late Dream Theater.
I'm unable to upload but I do trade shows to others in hope they are uploaded to easytree (As a couple of shows I transferred are currently on easytree due to a couple of reliable Ledgies) and I hope more are in the future...I busted my ass to transfer shows by choice NOT by obligation.

I linked to these pages in another BT thread that we had earlier, but I guess it's better to put the links here too. This is basically just some instructions on how to detect mp3-sourced audio:
http://www.audiohub.org/get/fa/fa.htm
http://www.audiohub.org/get/fa/sa.htm
You don't necessarily have to use Exact Audio Copy for these, it's enough if you just use a program that has spectral analysis as one of its features. Rule of thumb: if there's a blank area in the analysis (usually above 16 kHz), compression is involved, and if that compression looks like it's artificial then it's mp3-source you're dealing with.
The GOSYW compilation isn't the only seed that's been mp3-sourced as of late, the 1972 Seattle and Sindelfingen shows plus all tracks (minus "Gypsy") of the Bella Donna From A Parallel Universe torrent are all mp3-sourced as well. But I do believe the seeders weren't aware of this.
If you're not sure what source is on your disc, don't share it at Easytree, it's better that you post it as mp3s elsewhere.

I have those mp3-sourced discs as well. I also have a copy of the Seattle show that is not mp3-sourced, but it actually sounds worse than the mp3-sourced version because it's been copied from a source that's been compressed heavily (possibly by the recorder that was used to tape it).

really good audience recordings."Livespace" is the best quality boot CD of the Whiskey show (a competing CD at the time, "Pretty Mac Goes Metal," is inferior).
But both the '91 Whiskey show & the Westwood One '89 show from Houston were radio broadcasts, not soundboards. It's a really important distinction to make: soundboards are not radio broadcasts. Concert syndicate programs like Westwood One use microphones to record both the band & the audience. A soundboard is a direct (i.e., cabled) recording of the audio signals from the band only, & it generally isn't released to the public via radio broadcasts or live albums or anything else. It's a tool for the sound technicians to set real-time levels in the live mix. That's why it doesn't include a direct feed from the audience noise -- the techs don't need to set levels on people clapping & yelling.
A few months ago, we ledgies put together a list of genuine soundboard recordings of Fleetwood Mac. I think it's really important to maintain that distinction between "soundboard" & "radio" -- especially in this new bit torrent era where labeling seems to be such a big deal.
