Buddy Holly & The Crickets-\"That\'ll Be The Day\"-1957-Melody Lane-sheet music. This sheet music originally sold for fifty cents.Charles Hardin Holley (September 7, 1936 – February 3, 1959), known professionally as Buddy Holly, was an American singer-songwriter and a pioneer of rock and roll. Although his success lasted only a year and a half before his death in an airplane crash, Holly is described by critic Bruce Eder as \"the single most influential creative force in early rock and roll.\" His works and innovations inspired and influenced contemporary and later musicians, notably The Beatles, Elvis Costello, The Rolling Stones, Don McLean, Bob Dylan, Steve Winwood, and Eric Clapton, and exerted a profound influence on popular music. Holly was one of the inaugural inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked Holly No. 13 among \"The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time\".The sheet music has been autographed on the front by Buddy Holly with a fountain pen in black..............BOTH SHEET MUSIC AND AUTOGRAPH ARE IN Excellent sheet music-- That\'ll Be The Day--which has been autographedby Buddy Holly came from the Estate of Clark Gesner, the composer and lyricist whose defining success was the 1967 smash You\'re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Mr. Gesner (1938-2002) began collecting in 1956 when he obtained the autograph of Clark Gable. From there, he built a collection of more than 10,000 autographs. He obtained the autographs in person, from autograph dealers , or by mail. Mr. Gesner was a well-known collector and shared his collection with Brooklyn Heights area churches, schools, senior citizen groups and other organizations. First and foremost I evaluate the flow of the signature. I also look for the speed of the signature and then I\'ll start looking for the formation of the letters. I will ascertain pen pressure, hesitations, stops, skips, patches, line quality, connecting strokes, \'i\' dots, \"t\" bars, and baseline writing. If I\'m looking at line quality, I\'m looking for tremor in the line quality. Has the ink permeated the paper or does it sit on top of the fibers just recently applied? Does the ink used for the signature match the time period. Modern pencil drawings have graphite shine until they oxidize. Modern paper deteriorates and becomes more brittle. Brown mildew spots appear called foxing. Microscopic analysis can tell if the signature was applied recently on old paper on top of the old foxing. The autograph was also evaluated using standard nondestructive techniques of forensic document examination which include a macroscopic evaluation (with the naked eye) with calipers, protractors, photocopies and their enlargements, along with computer enhancements and computer enlargements.I do side-lighting to check for indented writing to see if there was pressure on the instrument. The signature is consistent with other exemplars that I have examined.
