Let me start by saying I didn't even know of this "song's" existence prior to today. I have been collecting 45's and other single mainly for the picture sleaves, and I got 'Skies the Limit' in the mail today and when I opened it, I noticed that the b-side was something called "Lizard People," which as I said, I had never even heard of. So I threw it on my record player...
What is this garbage??? I take it that really is Mick reading a poem he wrote??? HOLY CRAP! This guy is even more frightening now that I've heard this. He's got to be clinically disturbed. Why did they let him do this??? Does anybody have any background information they can offer on this? Thank god for the cool cover because I don't think I'll ever be listening to "Lizard People" again. |

Here, I just typed these out.
I think they're correct. Lizard People (written by Mick Fleetwood & Peter Bardens) (Plain, sore, aching feet... plain, sore, aching feet... Plain, sore, aching feet... plain, sore, aching feet....) Somewhere where dream meets reality, In the doldrums of your mind, We find a grey-green ambience. Lizard becomes man, and vice versa. Very strange, but strangely logical. The sheriff, the men with red necks, the posse... Shotguns at the ready... Creep and stumble thru the swamps and vegetation. Flashlights search the undergrowth for signs of visitation, But Lizard People have no need to fear... They are above, beyond, and totally elsewhere... (We are the Lizard People) Caught in the fifth dimension. No matter how long you've suffered... Be it three months or thirty years... No matter what your problems are... Corns, callouses, pain in the balls... of your feet, Burning nerve endings, painful ankles, old injuries, headaches, Or just plain, sore, aching feet... sore, aching feet... (Plain, sore, aching feet... plain, sore, aching feet....) Somewhere... (We are the Lizard people) Where dream meets reality, They are above... beyond... totally elsewhere. Lizard becomes man, and vice versa. You may say, "very strange." But I say, "strangely logical." Without my net... without my men... without my shotguns... They are above... beyond... totally elsewhere. There were reports... rumours... sightings... speculation... But no reward. I search for signs of visitation... not vegetation.... (We are the Lizard People.)

And didn't Jim Morrison refer to himself as the Lizard King? I just don't get this whole lizard community. Maybe you need to be drunk.

I've heard of it but never heard it. It looks about as aesthetically gratifying as "These Strange Times".
One thing I will say to Lindsey's credit, when he produces FM albums, Mick doesn't get to contribute song lyrics. - Jake

To me, it sounds like a cross between "These Strange Times" and the intro to "In The Back Of My Mind".
I LIKE all three of those tunes. Maybe Lindsey SHOULD let Mick contribute more. It would be an interesting collaboration, to say the least. |

LOL - "Corns, callouses, pains in the balls ... of your feet" sounds like it belongs in some medication or orthopedic shoe commercial.

Well...more $$$ for Mick, if he'd license the song to Dr. Scholl's!

Well, let's hope the band doesn't get ideas at this age.
Stevie writing jingles for estrogen tablets. Lindsey writing jingles for "Love the Grey in my 'Fro" shampoo. Mick writing jingles for Viagra. (You TOO can have twins with your third wife after declaring bankruptcy and doing scary drugs.") Hey, does John even age? - Jake

I always found "Lizard People" humorous as hell...
It was on the first FM bootleg I ever had ("Tango In The Night-The Remixes") and I thought WTH when I first heard it because it really is a weird tune/song/poem/narration/whatever of Mick's, But it grew on me over time...Brian J. ps-The best line in "Lizard People" is "pain in the balls (insert a short moment for dramatics)...Of your feet"...Makes ya wonder for just a sec which "balls" Mick is talkin' about...LMAO!!!!

Thanks for the lyrics Johnny Stew
I had always thought he said "backaches" instead of "headaches" but that does seem more reasonable. As it was co written by the late Pete(r) Bardens, I'm sure that's him on keyboards as well as it definitely sound more like his style than Christine's. I have interesting memories of LP as CM had said she was retiring after the BTM tour and I was wondering who Mick was going to get to "replace" (for lack of a better word) Christine on keyboards in FM (as Mick back then was into getting new members which he obviously isn't now unfortunately and I wasn't to know at the time that CM was not going to be replaced as such but...) I was excited about the "idea (admittedly of my own creation)" that PB "may" have been in FM. He may not have accepted Mick's offer if Mick was to make PB one anyways but I thought that would have been really cool if he "would've" been offered the stool and accepted it, I think it could have been very interesting, naturally I was sad to see CM go but I thought "if they felt as though there needed to be a keyboard player in the band to fill out the sound (etc.) then he would have been a good "choice"" but I know that was just silly speculation on my part. ![]() Well, enough of all that but I guess I don't really mind LP because it IS that little bit different and out of the ordinary and shows that FM is more than "just a hits band" (as that is probably what the general public thinks of FM as, maybe not though, but that's what my guess is to what they "see them as". ![]() John |
