I know there's a shorter and longer version of the final Sara, but I forget which is which. What's the difference (if any) between the Sara on Tusk, the Sara on Greatest Hits and Sara on The Very Best Of? I think I heard somewhere too that the Tusk cd version is shorter than the one on the original vinyl. Is this true? I always listen to the 9-minute Cleaning Lady version and I hear there's one even longer out there...the longer the better. Thanks in advance for answering my questions.

I've actually asked this question before, the answer I got is:
Sara on Tusk, is shorter than the version of Sara on Greatest Hits, but on the vinyl version of Tusk, Sara is full length. Other than the fact that the version on Tusk is shortter, there is no difference. Hope this answers your question. Sofie

The difference is that in the longer version you get that "Sara, you're the poet in my heart" towards the middle... whereas in the shorter version it is edited out to save time...i still love the demo the best though....

It's a demo tape of Sara. When the song starts she says, I wanna be a star, I don't want to be a cleaning lady!"
That's how it got named the "cleaning lady" version by fans. N. |

The reason the single edit is on the original Tusk CD is because at the time CD's could only hold around 72 mins of music and the LP version would make it a few mins too long.
They did the same thing with both Tom Petty's and Rod Stewart's Live CD's.... Except that MCA & Warner's cut 2 songs off each to get them down to 72. Last edited by Dugan; 02-04-2003 at 01:02 AM.. |

on one of my demo tapes.. i think there's a 12-some minute version of the song. i'll start digging around & look to make sure.. but i do believe i have a 12 minute version of the song. for as long as i can remember, people have been talking about a 16 minute version of the song somewhere, but i dont know if i've got it or have heard it. i have many demo cassettes, but rarely listen to them b/c of the pain of using cassette. if i find the long versions, i'll put them in .mp3 format eventually.
** i just listened to one version that i have on tape. it started at 7:15 PM exactly and ended at 7:24 .. so there's one thats 9-some-odd minutes. (not sure how many seconds, forgot to look.) listenin to another now.. Sarah

I also have a rehersal of Sara and Stevie says something to the effect of "I'm not hearing any harmonies and one of the reasons is you're not singing!" to Chris. It's interesting...

There are probably five or more cuts of "Sara" floating about, in addition to "cleaning lady." There are two alone on the Missing Links set.
Plus there are all those cuts from tour rehearsals (two or three different Saras from the Tusk tour rehearsals alone), plus Stevie's various piano demo-type Saras, & all those hundreds of live Saras from 1979 through 1988, solo & Mac. Sara is the poet in our heart through sheer domination! |

Cd version vs Album version. It was about the same I thought because I got the album and put it on a turn table to hear Sara in its entirety and it was basically the same.....
Is it just one line or what? I didn't hear the difference... ![]() ( I did this a long time ago, for I don't OWN a turn table myself , so I really am curious what I missed)
