Default A Fleetwood Mac Musical

It was on the radio and in the newspaper yesterday that there is to be a musical made of the Rumours album/lineup like they recently did with Mama Mia

This would be rather interesting, I wonder if they really will and if so when it will be out.

I found the following online:

http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_676002.html

Rod Stewart and Fleetwood Mac to feature in new musicals

The music of Rod Stewart and Fleetwood Mac look set to hit the stage.

Producers are planning two new shows along the lines of We Will Rock You and Mamma Mia which will use music from the two acts.

Matthew Vaughan, who has produced films such as Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, is planning to use the music from Fleetwood Mac's Rumours album in a new show.

According to the Independent, Ben Elton is writing the script for Tonight's The Night which will use music from Rod Stewart.

Phil McIntyre, the producer of the Rod Stewart musical told the paper: "Since the singer-songwriters of the 1960s there has been little appetite for writing specifically for the stage - hence the tributes".

This week the cognoscenti will be holding their heads in their hands as details emerge of future productions reviving the sounds – and most likely boosting the coffers of – such musical dinosaurs as Rod Stewart and Fleetwood Mac.

Matthew Vaughan, producer of the film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, is planning to dramatise the making of the 1977 Fleetwood Mac album Rumours, which has sold 30 million copies

Default I could see it selling itself out, in both meanings

My idea of a FM musical was to not bother imitating the real people or events of FM, and even try to steer away from the Rumours songs - unlike ABBA and Queen, these guys have been playing these songs live for years, right up to the present. Leave it for them.

My idea was a real rock orchestral msuical, called World Turning. The main musical theme is that riff from Gypsy [in the key of G: B D E G, G D B A]. It would be about a girl who loved ballet and dancing as a child, then as an adult, got wrapped up in her busy high-powered life. Sort of like the character of Stevie had she continued her degree at uni.

Anyway I just think there's such an opportunity for an original, genuine musical here. Yet I imagine it'll be a bit of a cop out. Who really wants to see them all fighting on stage??!

I don't think the play is going to be a direct story from what FM went through. The Abba play isn't about Abba's life...they wrote a story that just coincides with what the songs are about. I almost got to see Mama Mia, but technicalities kept me from not seeing it (such as remembering the matinee being at 2:00 when it was actually at 1:00), but my friend told me about it and said that it doesn't have much to do with Abba's story (if they have any good story, I don't know much about Abba). But yeah, I think they'll write a completely different story that coincides with the songs.

Yeah, the ABBA one was done half-well, with at least an original story line. But if you read the articles above, the FM one is going to be about the making of Rumours.

~~~After the success which Mamma Mia has enjoyed I would welcome any work done by Matthew Vaughan on Rumours. Again the more attention drawn to the band the better chance for more recognition for their uncoming projects and ventures.~~~
