Arrow The blues band that helped shape heavy metal

Interesting take.

The Green Manalishi is not within my favorite songs but it’s a song I find interesting, and I enjoy to listen to from time to time. When I read Peter wrote the song after experiencing a drug-induced dream, and the green dog represented money, Peter was dead in the dream, etc. I remember I thought: Oh, LSD... Now I understand why the first minute sounded to me like an old Pink Floyd song.

No doubt those LSD trips could have inspired artists to write great songs. But when I remember Peter Green, Brian Wilson or Syd Barrett who ended up with schizophrenia, I must say the price was too high. It wasn’t worth it.

Judas Priest killed with the cover. They could see the darkness of the song and the riffs they could reproduce their way. I remember teen kids of the 80s in shock it was a Fleetwood Mac song. All of these covers from Black Magic Woman, Oh Well, and The Green Manalishi show the brilliance of Peter Green. Bob Welch did really good on vocals in the Welch era of the band. Chris's organ on the song is the freaking hottest organ she has ever played. Such bad ass!
In my 20s (mid 1990s) there was a hard rock station in West Palm Beach that only played hard rock from Metallica, AC DC, etc. The lightest group they played was Van Halen. They had Lindsey's Oh Well in their playlist from the 1980 live album. Lindsey killed playing that song. But its another song where I can see metal heads discovering the brilliance of Peter Green.

Edit: Bob Welch's psychedelic guitar intro to Green Manalishi on the 1974 radio concert is so freaking good. If you check the threads and my posts from 2018 when Lindsey was replaced, I suggested they should open with Green Manalishi and blow everyone out of the arena. I can see Mike Campbell really getting into it like his Oh Well. Of course they could never be that daring and played for the casual fans.
I think Lindsey hated playing these vintage Mac songs. Didn't he say he felt like he was in a cover band? His guitar is fine but his singing does not fit the mood of the song. But incredible guitarwork at the end. Stevie screaming constantly at the end actually sounds really good and bat **** crazy which is so freaking cool.

I agree bob and Chris were pretty awesome on that song. and i think Lindsey did a decent job with it too but he sure never seemed to like covering it. (also have to point out the rhythm section has always been great on that song as well.)

I was just listening to that version from the Deluxe White album, I liked a lot. And yes, I've read Lindsey didn't like to play the old blues songs, I guess they included them in the first tour as a way of continuity. I guess Oh Well was included in the Live album at Mick's request.

I liked Stevie screaming too, I guess that was to give the song a new lineup sound.

Lindsey performed Oh Well on the Mirage tour too. And its just as kick ass as the 1980 album.

A goat moaning in pain does add something to the song. Give me an exorcist Stevie or give me nothing at all.
Can you imagine Chris's inner thoughts during this? "What is this bloody mess? I though Bob talking mid-sound was bad. Now this bloody mess. Girl needs an exorcism"

On another note I do not think that is Christine banging the organ. I watched them perform Green Manalishi on The Midnight Special in 1974. It was the other guy on the organ. Maybe the additional keyboardist was not there for the studio live concert but he is there on this performance and does a bang up job. But maybe both of them playing is giving me that vibe that I love.
