Default Peter Green's Rumours

I read in thisdayinmusic.com that today, 1967, Fleetwood Mac made their live debut when they appeared at the National Jazz and Blues Festival in Windsor. Also on the bill Jeff Beck, Cream, Small Faces, The Move, The Pink Floyd, Donovan and Chicken Shack.

John was still with John Mayall, but since they also played at the festival, it is likely he and Christine met for the first time. Mick wrote:

I also remember a big commotion over a hot new blues band from Birmingham called Chicken Shack, word having gotten around that the singer and keyboard player was a beautiful blonde named Christine Perfect. We all went to see Chicken Shack's set at this blues event, and everyone in Eleetwood Mac immediately fell in love with Christine.

But it was during the Mr. Wonderful sessions that Mick recalled John began to feel attracted to Christine.

We all loved Christine. Pete fancied her and she fancied him in this period, which was quite complicated because John McVie was also taking a shine to her and she to him. Anyway, Christine made her debut with Fleetwood Mac at that session.

That potential love triangle seemed to me a teaser of what 1977 would be like. Were they too british to become what Rumours was?

When I looked for pictures of that festival I found two posters that mentions tha band as Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, just as his first album was known.

Afaik john and chris didn't actually meet at the windsor thing, even though they prob saw each other performing that day. i believe they actually met- ie were formally introduced -- at a gig in nov 1967, so that would be a few months after the festival. and john may have still been engaged to the other girl at that time.

Peter may have thought chris was attractive and vice versa, but they never dated or had any sort of relationship beyond a friendship/working together a few times. This was actually one of many things in the Jones book that irritated me, that she was insinuating that maybe chris made the wrong choice and should have been w peter etc. (did she even say that the reason pete called the night before the wedding to tell her she shouldn't marry john was because he was jealous..? now i can't recall for sure but she may have, i'd have to check.)

also i think the Mr. wonderful sessions were in april of 68.. Chris says she and john dated casually for about 6 mos, so were they dating at this time? Perhaps. and this is why i never understand where John gets his 6-7 week window of meeting/marrying Chris. he's totally wrong lol. i mean if they met in Nov 67 and then worked together in April 68 and probably dated then as well, and then he went off the America for six weeks in June/July 1968, where he is getting this time frame from?! It doesn't make any sense.

anyway-- Chris said john charmed her and that she fell head over heels and was totally crazy about him by the time fm went to America. then she wrote him the letter and he proposed 4 days after he returned. so I don't think she was ever in a love triangle with john and peter ( and i also don't think she ever felt she made the wrong choice!!)
