Thumbs up Who remembers Asia?

Asia was defined as a "supergroup" with their debut album in 1982. Asia included keyboardist Geoffrey Downes and guitarist Steve Howe from Yes; King Crimson singer-bassist John Wetton, and Emerson, Lake & Palmer drummer Carl Palmer. Their album was the biggest seller in the States in 1982 charting 3 hits. Their blend of incredible keyboards, hard drumming and good guitars really made their sound stand out. Their album charted fairly well in the UK and Europe too but nowhere near the success in the States and Canada where it went right to #1 for 10 weeks. It was the summer of Asia before Mirage finally knocked it out of the top spot in late summer. I forgot how crazy the keyboard set up was for the keyboardist. He had so many keyboards on stage and would run back and forth like crazy. Here is a live clip which shows how good the band was. The keyboardist running back and forth with that headband is so freaking good. The keyboard breakdown in the bridge just is so good on Sole Survivor. Check this out:

Yes, I remember the singles videos. Only Time Will Tell, and Heat of the Moment. Cool songs.

A few years back, it hit me that “Heat of the Moment” and “Video Killed the Radio Star” were very similar.

Both were co-written by Geoff Downes.
