Talking Justified and Ancient (1991)

Who remembers this song? OMG this takes me back to college when this song was popular. KLF was a British dance music band that had some big club hits. Their drummer was a Tammy Wynette fan and dared to ask her to sing on one of their songs. They call this the biggest crossover success that ever was. I remember when I first heard this song I thought it was cute they had someone sound like Tammy Wynette on the song. It was not until I saw the video that I learned it was really her. Everyone was trying to understand what the hell she was singing about. What the hell is Mu Mu land? It turns out Tammy had the same concerns and asked them what was Mu Mu land and was not even sure what an Ice Cream truck was. Tammy got to sing next to people dressed as ice cream cones. All of this was so crazy but it worked wonderfully. Not only was it KLF's biggest hit, it went to #1 in European countries and on the Dance charts. It hit #2 in the UK and only blocked by Queen when Freddie Mercury died. It hit #11 in the states and was all over MTV.

Here is the video

Tammy talks about KLF experience and also the dust up with Hillary Clinton

I don't remember that song. I don't know if it was popular around here. But the one who sings dressed as a queen looks like Susana Vieira, brazilian actress. Though I know it's not her.

Maybe you are too young or lived in a cave
It was a huge worldwide hit.
Funny though is you don't hear it today or any other KLF stuff. The early 90s was such a different time in music in all aspects. KLF was a very unique and talented dance music band. Perhaps you heard their other hit that ruled the dance charts in 1991.

I think the "cave" applies more. Though I prefer "bubble". Nothing related to my country, but it happens that I have always, and more recently, lived in a kind of bubble in terms of music. Lot of songs I didn't pay attention. More so now that I hardly listen to the radio.

But in 1991 I used to go to clubs, and remember several dance songs and bands. And I also remember some top charts songs. Still, I can't remember J&A. Probably it's my age-related memory loss, although they say that one forgets recent events but never older ones.

Anyway I find it's a cool song.

I'd lie if I say Yes! I think I've danced that song at clubs. I remember several songs similar to 3am that I don't know or remember the names. Right now the only one I remember is Gypsy Woman, I think by Crystal Waters.

I was 25 in 1991. By that time I didn't look for dance songs at radios, as I did in the late 70s (disco). I had begun to get interested in music more in the style of Rick Wakeman, Pink Floyd, and less commercial rock.

The KLF were a crazy band with a crazy story. They were more performance artists than musicians. They famously ceremonially burned £1 million.
Their other big (UK) hit didn’t age well….Doctorin The Tardis featured Gary Glitter (a now notorious convicted peodophile). It doesn’t get played much these days.

I saw this music video on TV once or twice at the time and the imagery certainly stuck with me. I didn't remember it being a dance song though.

How are you doing? I hope you and your family are safe. I saw the tsunami hit Peru.
Please check in and let us know you are ok.

I’m ok, thanks for asking. The worst waves happened in north Peru (730 miles from my city, Lima), not far from the border with Ecuador. Serious damage to fishing boats and docks.

But here there were some waves that hit Callao, the port near Lima. They flooded some squares and streets but no victims, fortunately.

Nothing happened in my neighborhood, Miraflores, no waves but the beaches were closed anyway. I live a mile from the coast (used to live closer in the past), but fortunately this district is on top of some cliffs so we are kind of protected, though not all Lima is, some areas are at sea level. In the past when we have had earthquakes, there were no large tsunamis but there were waves that got strong and reached the beach road.

We are all glad you are safe and ok. After the 2004 tsunamis they really scared me. During the Haitian earthquake I was living in Miami Beach and there were alerts. Luckily nothing happened.
The 20th anniversary of the 2004 tsunami just happened. I was watching survivor stories and the destruction was horrible. They said the water was going 200 mph at times racing towards the shore.
