The Final Chapter.

Although this may be the most heartbreaking subject to talk about, it's also the most real. Throughout the last month alone we've lost music legends such as:

* David Bowie - Iconic singer-songwriter, actor, producer, multi-instrumentalist
* Glenn Frey - (Eagles founder, guitarist, vocalist, keyboardist, and co-writer)
* Robert Stigwood - Co-produced "Grease" and "Saturday Night Fever". Former manager of "Cream" and "Bee Gees"
* Lemmy - "Motörhead" front-man and founder
* Stevie Wright - Singer-songwriter
* René Angélil - Singer, producer, manager & husband of Celine Dion ***Dion's brother Daniel died two days following her husband's death***
* Dale Griffin - Singer, drummer, producer, and founder of "Mott the Hoople"

Apart from the deaths of these musicians, we've lost actors such as Alan Rickman and Dan Haggerty.

My point? All of the members of Fleetwood Mac are around the age group of these people. One day, we're going to turn our TV's on and learn the death of one of them. David Bowie laid out a catalog of posthumous albums after learning his diagnosis. It's time for Fleetwood Mac to make a great farewell album. Back in 1991 when Freddie Mercury was suffering and dying of AIDS, Queen recorded and released argumentatively their best album . "Innuendo", featured #1 hits around the world: "These Are The Days of Our Lives", "Ride the Wild Wind", "The Show Must Go On" and "Innuendo".

The final track on the album entitled "The Show Must Go On" ended Mercury's musical career with the words "I'll top the bill, I'll overkill, I have to find the will to carry on, On with the show, The show must go on". Fleetwood Mac needs an epic ending like this. We need to start preparing for the worst.

I've organized a playlist of appropriate farewell-like songs. It's called "Forever". It's a combination of underrated/new songs from the Mac. Due to respect of the artists, I will not post any download links for these. They are all actual songs however.

You've certainly made an eye opening point.

When the Mac do decide to go ahead with a new record, I'm just praying that they take the high road. With Lindsey at the helm, I'm sure they will. By taking the "high road", I mean that at this point in their journey, I certainly don't want a cookie cutter album like "Tango In The Night" or "Behind The Mask". I really would like the Mac to work with an outside producer like Mitchell Froom to make a masterpiece in the Tusk style. Experimentation and an effort to explore artistic integrity are a must for this project. I'm not looking for adult contemporary radio airplay here. There are countless artists who stepped outside the box in the later years of their career to create groundbreaking music. Just think about Johnny Cash working with metal producer Rick Rubin to create "The Man Comes Around". Of course, Lindsey will be on board to push the envelope and blur the lines. The others may be harder to convince, since there are dinosaur rock arena tickets to sell out, and no one wants to hurt "the brand".

I think that perhaps 'farewell' themed albums or tours went out of fashion because of people like Frank Sinatra announcing their 'retirement'. And then they would return a few years later. It was being viewed as a gimmick. But Freddie Mercury and Bowie obviously knew it was their last work.

To me, FM's signature song will always be 'The Chain' which has begun to take on the same meaning as 'The Show Must Go On'. The showbiz cliche but it works for them.

In one month, the UK lost Bowie, USA has lost Glenn Frey, Australia lost Stevie Wright. To me, they all count as legends. If not for Stevie Wright I doubt there would ever have been an AC/DC as we know them. I was already feeling that when I heard about Bowie. Unless he was extremely ill, I think he would have noticed the passing of Wright and Stigwood. He had once covered a song originally done by Wright and Stigwood had involvement in his early career. Mott The Hoople had their biggest hit with a song written and produced by Bowie.

Huge losses from a particular culture and era. I'm glad that my 15 year old is still able to experience some of the original pioneers and entertainers because their careers have survived this long. But he may be the last generation to have that privilege.
