I had the misfortune of seeing Stevie Nicks on July 24 at the Jones Beach Theater. After keeping us waiting almost an hour and a half, she said she was upset that she had to play in a scary place like New York City and that we should all make believe we were in someplace nice like Casper, Wyoming. Later on she stated that she was walking off stage to wipe off the sweat, and asked how we could live in this place. We should all go to California, where she lives, where it is evidently pleasant all year long. I will never go to another of her concerts. She can stay in California and have an earthquake during a riot while she is enjoying the sunny skies. I would rather be at Jones Beach and enjoy the four seasons in New York.
Okay I found this clipping in my Street Angel notebook. This was a letter to the editor, but I don't know if it was from a newspaper or magazine or what. Theodore was not happy as you can tell from his letter. But either I am crazy or this guy is lying. I can't tell you how many times I have heard Stevie say she loves New York. She plays Jones Beach every tour, and I am pretty sure Stevie is too professional to show up an hour and a half late for a show unless there was a pretty darn good reason. And I really find it hard to believe that Stevie actually said that she was upset to have to play in such a scary place like New York. Now this was July 24, 1994 on the Street Angel Tour. Did any of you happen to go to this show? Is anything in this guys letter true? Well anyway I thought you guys would get a kick out of reading it. |

I find this story difficult to swallow too. I know Stevie has her dippy moments, but I just can't see her being stupid enough to tell a crowd of New Yorkers that their city is awful and scary just before a show. Especially on the more-or-less sober SA tour.
I'd be interested in getting a second account, too. But I'm pretty sure this is just someone with an axe to grind. Glad the guy seems to love his city, though. |

I was at this show. It was only the 2nd show of the Street Angel tour, the 1st one was in Boston.
There was an opening act, Darden Smith, but I didn't remember her taking the stage too late. I think Darden played for close to an hour. I do remember the Casper Wyoming comment, but she said something about New York being scary in the context of her being nervous or anxious about performing that night. She said she was nervous that it was only the 2nd show of the tour and she was playing such a big audience. As we know now, this was the first time she was sober in about 20 years, so no wonder she was nervous. I didn't take offense to the comment at all. Maybe because I was just so excited to be there. :-)

That is pretty hard to swallow. She seems to be very understanding of the whole hometown thing that most of us have. I saw her on that tour two show's later. She definitely seemed vulnerable, but she was wonderful, personable and HONEST about where she was in her life. The show was great! We sang Landslide so well and loud and clear that she got choked up "by our love and support". I get emotional just thinking about that moment. Pure Stevie, just so real...

Stevie 's scared of NYC.
When I went on my little mini Enchanted tour four years later from the SA tour which I seen those two show and some others on that tour. As I was traveling to places that I feel unconformable with getting robbed or mugged at.After doing the 1998 Enchanted tour and about a day later from the last Stevie show which was the Camden NJ show which was a Friday night . I had to get back to Connecticut to see a country music fest the local radio station was putting on the next day which was sat at 12PM which was held at the Meadows Amp theater in Hartford CT.Now I think its called Comcast theater at Meadows. I got there and enjoyed the all day show with great seats and great weather ,then when I got back to my car and notice it got robbed.I guess the security was sleeping that day in the parking lot.Probably about only about $40 bucks total including my 35mm camera flash along with some toll change from the night before was takin.Luckily my camcorder which was a old model and a portable boom box TV was untouched.I did not even bother telling my insurance agent because of the deductible amount will be more then it worth. The only time I went back there is to see FM perform for the SYW tour. I stay away from that venue. I feel conformable everywhere that Stevie played including Jones Beach,Atlantic City ,Camden,Boston and so on, I hope Stevie or FM dont book in Hartford at that place again in with they have not in years which is great.Maybe Stevie thinks that the place is not safe too. Yes thank goodness for Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods MGM Grand that are taking most of the shows away from Hartford venues. It really sucks to come back to my home state the next day and get robbed.

Yeah, I'm sure the person who wrote that article just took her humor the wrong way. Some people can be so touchy.
I remember seeing The Dance tour in Pittsburgh. It was fall and it had gotten really cold pretty early in the season and we were in an outdoor amphitheater. Stevie came out all bundled up with a coat and scarf, I want to say she was even wearing mittens but that might be my imagination. She took the mic and said something along the lines of "We left sunny warm California this morning to come... here. Where it's cold." But she said it in a cute way being funny, not rude. She'd made comments before about loving Pittsburgh because she had friends from there or something. And she made a few other comments about the cold and I think she said something about if they were cold under all those lights how cold we must be. I should see if I can find that show somewhere. I remember being really amused by that because she never used to talk during her shows and ever since she had been on Storytellers she had been really chatty. |

Sorry, got my shows confused. I always try to at least get an audio of each show I go to. You're right...Landslide was on the Enchanted Tour set list and I saw the show at The GTE in Virginia Beach. It is on cassette and if I can figure out how, I'll try to put it up because the recording just gives me chills and her comments are great. She was a little weepy now that I think about it...an associate was the Rock Doc for that show and he said she was not sleeping well and complaining about menopause, having a really hard time with it. That came out a little later.
Saw the Street Angel Tour in Richmond, VA and at The Starlake Amphitheater in PA. In Richmond she almost tripped on Rick Vito's cord and called him out, but he was fast to make sure she didn't fall. |

The show was recorded and Stevie did say everything that Theodore mentioned. But I think he misinterpreted, or more likely overreacted to, what she said. I got the impression that she was referring mainly to the heat and humidity, which nobody really enjoys. This was also the Street Angel tour, so she was still in a mental funk from rehab, gaining weight, and frying her hair. I'd be cranky too.

I've been to many of her shows and she is Always very personable and interactive with her crowd, regardless of the locale. Stevie is very sensitive and sensitive to her audiences, as well. |

Spynote said, OK, I dug up the show. Here's what she said that night: Wow! I am always amazed at how some of you come up with this type of material, you go! I'd kill for that kind of FM, Stevie Nicks library!
