When you listen those radio programs with music from the 70s, 80s, don't you always find Dreams, Hotel California, Another Brick in the Wall, Stairway to Heaven, and other nice or good songs but you are tired of?
And there are lot of songs, that were actual singles, but never played on radios now, and even not included in Greatest Hits albums. What song do you remember, and again, I mean singles, not any favorite song from an old album. My list would include: Melody Fair - The Bee Gees. From Odessa (1969) and included in Melody soundtrack (with Mark Lester). A popular song in Peru, I remember the vynil single, but never found it in any GH album, nor played in peruvian radios nowadays. Actually I'm not sure if it was released as single in several countries. There's a vynil single in Amazon, with japanese characters. Treat Me Right - Pat Benatar (1980 Crimes of Passion). Another hit in my country, even included in An Officer and a Gentleman soundtrack, but not included in Pat's GH. Dress you up - Madonna (Like a Virgin, 1984-85). another top-five single I don't usually listen on radios, one of my favorite hits (and videos) from that album. I would include also Angel, also a top-five. Lost in You - Rod Stewart (Out of Order, 1988) A cool song, a single probably eclipsed by Forever Young or My Heart can't tell you no (those songs usually included in Rod's collections, but no LIY, except by the Storyteller boxset). Hell on Wheels - Cher. From Prisioner, an underrated and criticized album, maybe that's why it's not included in any hits collection; here it was a huge single when it was included in Roller Boggie movie, 1980. Finally it was included in Cher's Casablanca Years cd.

Totally agree with this. Dress You Up is probably my fave song by Madonna.

Radio always sucks. They run test with a handful of people and get their opinion if they like it or if the tune will be a hit.

And what about Deeper and Deeper? It's a great song, but she performed it only in two tours, and was not released in the last GH, Celebration.
Mybe I'm not a fan of Madonna, but I think this song deserved more recognition... So...Hi! There's lot of songs that maybe are popular, but were not included on GH, and I never listened on the radios. Or maybe they were included! But in shorted versions, or only once. Here's my list, I'll try to be brief! Marooned (Pink Floyd). As an instrumental song, is a great masterpiece of Gilmour/Wright/Mason. But it was included in Echoes, their last GH, in a version of only...2 minutes!!! when the original is over 5 minutes, and you must listen to the long solo to love it... Sysyphus (Pink Floyd). Ummagumma, and nothing else. The over-13-minutes-song was performed only four times, and never appeared on a GH. I didn't know Ummagumma, but after this first song, it became one of my favourites. Is an underrated song? I really don't know. ![]() Bonnie (Supertramp). Maybe the best ballad of Supertramp, with My Kind Of Lady. It's beautiful, but so criticized by the fans and the critics. And I love the piano of Rick Davies and the solo of Roger Hodgson. Every instrument is on its place. Is wonderful! Crazy (Supertramp). The first cut of Famous Last Words. The own Roger Hodgson refused to play it after his departure. He prefered the live version against the original maybe one of the best "last" songs of Supertramp. Well, I must say Famous Last Words, is like Mirage. They're from 1982, and they were both so criticized... ![]() How could I fall (Simply Red). Another ballad, that Mick Hucknall never played a lot live. It appeared recently in the Montreux Jazz Festival from the special edition of Stars, that included this concert from 1992, where they only changed the sax solo, but the vocals are well. Twenty years after its appereance, is a beautiful song, lost, among many others... The moment you left me (Wet Wet Wet). Yes, the name maybe doesn't sound familiar, but...can anybody explain me why a brilliant ballad like this never appeared on a GH? The song is from 1987, and the Wets never performed it live, or put it on a Greatest Hits. And I, only listened it on the radio...once. Nothing else. ![]() Well, I could include more songs but I said that I wanted to be brief! Maybe they're the firsts that came to my head. So these songs are part of the GH of my life! Regards and thanks Villavic for start the threat!! |

Tragic Surf and Envy - The Motels. Two tunes that showed that the Motels were definitely MORE than a power-pop band...they were a ROCK band.
