Default Stevie Mourns Robin Gibb

Belfast Telegraph Excerpt:

Fleetwood Mac star Stevie Nicks also revealed her sadness at the death of another music icon this year.

"RIP Robin Gibb. The soundtrack of my wonder years is vaporising one artist at a time with these iconic musical losses lately," she said.

I agree 110 percent what Stevie said.Yes nobody in the last 20 years will never fill the shoes of these artists.

This reminds me of the old classic country tune from George Jones.

"Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes"

Just listen to the words. This tune could be for all music types .This song makes me tear.

Barry Gibb put a video up on his website with footage showcasing Robin, but really of all of them. Background music was "Heart Like Mine". Yeah, I didn't shed a few pretty tears, it was more the blotchy face, nose full of mucus, type sobbing.

I would have been cool if she posted it at her website.
Not only about Robin but Donna also.

I'm guessing she must be referring to the earlier passing of Etta James when mentioning "the soundtrack to my wonder years".Both Robin and Donna were younger than Stevie.

The Bee Gees had hit songs in the late 1960's(I think?).

That they did but I always thought of the wonder years as pre-puberty.Stevie was 18 in 1966.

It does seem like its the end of an ERA. I was a kid in the 70s, but the Bee Gees and Donna Summer were soo hot. Sometimes I forget how long ago that actually was and I don't think of these people as being old.

I don't believe either of them died of old age.The Gibb brothers in particular seem to have had some really bad luck healthwise. It is the oldest brother who is the only survivor and even their mom is still alive.

Yes indeed. They started in the early 60's then in the 1970's turn to disco with 1975 hit "Jive Talkin'" and a big killing with Saturday Night Fever and the rest is history.

Not sure about Robin but Maurice had a serious drinking problem several years. For that reason, as Barry and Robin told in an interview, he couldn't even join his brothers to collaborate on Barbra's Guilty album. So I wouldn't blame on luck.

Fortunately it seems the excesses from the past has no paying its toll to Stevie now, in that way as to the Gibbs. Or so I hope.

I laugh when I think of Guilty because Barry was all over that album. It was like a total duet. It was a spectacular record, but oh my goodness. If Dave had done that much bogarting with Stevie, I would have been disgusted. I still don't know what that horse thought it was doing on the cover. If Dave had been as presumptuous . . .

I know the Gibb brothers wrote for a lot of people, but I didn't know that Islands in the Stream was theirs too. Hard to think of them dead. I get chills because you build up all these memories with your siblings and it must hurt so much to be the last one standing. One Gee. If there's no one there who shared it with you, did it really happen?

Maybe it was Bab's idea.

I'm sure it was. Streisand being Streisand, no one is going to tell her what to do.

Similarly, I'm sure the horse didn't put his hoof down and give Stevie an ultimatum about being on the album cover. She probably readily agreed when he asked her.

Although, equine have tried to kill Stevie in the past, so she might have felt pressured and intimidated.
