Default Music - I Need Something New

I grow weary of the contents of my iPod at the moment. My "Oldies" playlist is starting to look a little sparse. Anyway, I'm a big fan of "60's and 70's" music and I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions of artists or songs I may enjoy from these eras? Of course I mean besides the obvious ones (Lipps Inc, Disco Tex And The Sex-O-Lettes, Ohio Players etc etc).

From the 60's try to explore some of Motown music:
-Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, The Supremes, Martha Reeves & The Vandellas etc. Sound of Young America as they used to describe this music...

Thumbs up

Not a fan of the 60's music too much, but for the 70s, it's depends on the type you're looking for.

For rock: Heart, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Kansas, BTO, The Eagles, Foreigner, Steve Miller Band

For disco/pop: KC & The Sunshine Band, Hall & Oates, Elton John, Billy Joel, Doobie Brothers, Genesis

I'm going by my iPod a little for this.

Maybe it would help if I gave a few examples of the style I like. By the way, already a HUGE fan of Eagles and Billy Joel

* Stealers Wheels - Stuck In The Middle With You
* Ohio Players - Love Rollercoaster
* The Undertones - Teenage Kicks
* The Young Rascals - Good Lovin'
* John Fred And His Playboys - Judy In Disguise (With Glasses)
* The Buggles - Video Killed The Radio Star
* Racing Cars - They Shoot Horses, Don't They
* The Band - The Weight
* David Dundas - Jeans On

She ain't from the '60s or '70s, but I've been listening to a lot of Blossom Dearie lately.

Most of these suggestions seem pretty good to me. I think services like Pandora offer suggestions for new songs based on your play history.

Go with what you know you like and branch out from that.

I branched out from Fleetwood Mac and now enjoy Heart, the Eagles, and Hall & Oates.

A few that have popped into my mind...

Love
Buffalo Springfield
Badfinger
Raspberries
Jim Croce

A more current band I highly recommend checking out - Scissor Sisters. They are heavily influenced by the sounds of the 1970's.

The Beach Boy's Sunflower album sounds like it would suit your tastes!

I'm on a big Allman Brothers kick, maybe start with a compilation of their best.

I just rediscovered my love for the Bee Gees Spirits Having Flown album. Falsetto like whoa!
