Default Women Who Rock (PBS) snub Ms. Nicks

I just watched a new show on PBS titled Women Who Rock.
A very interesting show for the most part. Definitely worth watching.
And like the title implies it's about the women who were and are part
of the Rock music scene.

All this leads to the few seconds they devoted to Stevie Nicks.
We get a few seconds of live material from one of Fleetwood Mac's Tours
in the mid seventies. I'm not even sure her name was used when the
footage was played (I'll rewatch it later to see).

It wouldn't be that big of a deal, but when you see who they take up
your time with later on in the program - it kind of makes you want
to say What tha?

I'll be nice and not say who shouldn't have been in the program, but Stevie
deserved much more. It's going to be shown several times this weekend.

I watched this last night as well... they didn't even say Stevie's, Christine's, or Fleetwood Mac's names... they just played about 15 seconds of Rhiannon from the '75 tour. Honestly, this didn't surprise me though. I knew when PBS didn't show Stevie on their commercials for this upcoming show that she'd be snubbed. Documentaries like these are always centered around more esoteric figures too. All the aged hipsters they kept citing for commentary no doubt think Stevie is too mainstream, and not 'cool' enough. Which in itself is actually quite a passe ideal these days. Stevie is finally beginning to be recognized as the true legend she is.

I know just what you mean about the usual suspects in these documentaries wanting to show how "cool" they are by talking about non-mainsteam artists. Laura Nyro, Judee Sill are usually referred to - and of course Judee is wonderful - but not rock as such so I'd be interested to know why they did cite for rock other than the mainstream artists such as Heart, Pat Benatar etc?

She wasn't snubbed, per se. They focused on the women that consented to interviews, i.e. Cyndi Lauper, the Wilson sisters.

I have no knowledge as to whether or not SN was asked to cooperate. The list of who wasn't
mentioned is almost endless.

The grainy footage of Rhiannon(done at light speed LOL) at least was something.

I agree the show dissed Stevie. Even though they did show a small clip of Rhiannon and they put her name on the screen when they played the clip, the clip showed nothing but the "Rhiannon" chorus part and Stevie could hardly be seen. Plus, you can't even really hear her on that part. They could have at least shown her singing a verse. She was put in the "70's" section so it had to be a FM performance rather than solo. I did note, however, that Joni Mitchell was also only given a very short clip showing a fragment of one of her songs. Maybe it had something to do with the cooperation of the artists?? Still, the editing on the very small Rhiannon clip could have been a lot better.

There seems to be fans of other female artists
that are equally disappointed. It's funny, what
was a good show started to disintegrate about
the time Stevie showed up.

womp womp waaahhh.

Just catching up on my dvr....
Just wow... I'm stunned how many people they left out... Besides Stevie, but also, Melissa Etheridge, Sheryl Crow... Just so many women.... And they focus on Bikini Kills? (sorry if I offend anyone on that or if I got the name wrong) As detailed as the producers were for the first 20 minutes... They dropped the ball on the surf mode with the rest of the show.... Maybe they were just trying to be "obscure" trying to be smart. However, they failed.
Shame on PBS since they are an educational channel.
