I live in Minnesota and wouldn't miss this for anything! I am going with my daughter's best friend. She love Lindsey. We have been to several midwest Lindsey/Mac shows. Any meet ups going on before the show? We'd love to say

@raggedorchid Lindsey Buckingham. Mind officially blown. Fantastic variety of old and new, and gave even the classics fresh interpretation. Fabulous!

I love it. And look, someone thinks his hair is awesome. (I never mentioned this but I took my indifferent BFF a few years ago to a show of his in Chicago and the only thing she can remember from the night was 1) he was late 2) "Go Insane" was her favorite and 3) his hair was pretty awesome. )

I am SO excited for next week!!!

David, That was so nice of you to do that last night. Waiting for your review from this show as well. Have fun tonight and tomorrow, and see you in Jacksonville.

I'm glad David made it to the show last night. I went and was looking for him to say,"Hi"to, but I didn't see him. I'll post a review and pictures later, but for now, I'll say it was an awesome show, although Lindsey did do one thing that disappointed me slightly. A group of us made our way to the front of the stage for Tusk. Near the end of the song, a security guard came down and started yelling at us to take our seats, we couldn't be there. We didn't move, and the security guard, who was a female, grabbed a woman by her arm and started pulling her out. When the song ended, Brett said, "Lindsey, say something!" Lindsey just turned his back and walked towards the rear of the stage to get a drink and wipe his face off. The rest of us went back to our seats then...until GYOW when Brett started motioning for us to come back down. This time, there were too many fans rushing the stage for the security guard to do anything about.

Lindsey Buckingham should have shut up & let his guitar do the talking

Lindsey Buckingham may be more in touch with his feminine side than any other male guitar hero.

He manifested his considerable guitar prowess Friday night at the packed Pantages Theatre. And he also talked about his feelings. His life. His philosophies. His career. His new album. Himself. Too much.
Buckingham is a piece of work. No need to critique and psychoanalyze your songs before you play them, dude. Just shut up and play.

He did play. Plenty. It was a mix of stuff from his solo career and from the Fleetwood Mac catalog. He didn’t say much at all about the Big Mac except after some guy shouted out something about where’s Stevie Nicks, Buckingham said, "Unfortunately for that one gentleman, Stevie’s not in [this band]. What show is he at?"

Buckingham, who turns 62 next month, started the 110-minute concert playing solo. His vocal phrasing was slow and deliberate, enhancing the emotionalism of his singing. He showed a splendid sense of dynamics, especially with the exaggerated drama on Fleetwood Mac’s "Never Going Back Again."

After five numbers, three musicians joined Buckingham — guys who have worked with him on his solo projects for many years. The sidemen helped frame several songs such "Tusk" with its primitive drums and "All My Sorrow" with its vocal echoes of the Association and Brian Wilson.
Buckingham played six selections from his new self-released disc, "Seeds We Sow," his third solo studio effort in the past five years. "Illumination" was dark new-wave, "End of Time" sounded R.E.M.-ish, the choruses of "That’s the Way Love Goes" rocked like the Pogues and "Stars Are Crazy" felt like Broadway rock with every lyric delivered like it was so important. "Seeds We Sow," the night’s finale done solo, found Buckingham going from a vocal wail to a whisper and ending the piece with some lovely classical finger picking.
Most of the night, Buckingham’s guitar work was heavy on mesmerizingly swirling repetition but he cut loose and soared with rock ‘n’ roll abandon on "Go Your Own Way" to the delight of the Mac-loving fans, who offered several standing ovations during the concert.

Buckingham came across as strikingly self-satisfied and basked too much in the adoration, responding with some kind of grand gesture — hand over his heart, clenched-fist salutes, hands pressed together while he bowed his head, etc. — after nearly every song. His manner, like his conversation, seemed a bit much. But his music and his guitar playing were worth savoring.

Here is Buckingham’s set list from the Pantages:
solo: Shut Us Down/ Go Insane/ Trouble/ Never Going Back Again/ Big Love/ band: Under the Skin/ All My Sorrow/ In Our Own Time/ Illumination/ Second Hand News/ Tusk/ Stars Are Crazy/ End of Time/ That’s the Way Love Goes/ I’m So Afraid/ Go Your Own Way ENCORE Turn It On/ Treason/ solo: Seeds We Sow

some comments submitted under the review:
Too bad you can't just see this stuff & say "that's Lindsey". I thought it was a really wonderful show & that Lindsey, whatever he said or did, was genuine every minute. You see this 62 year old guy rocking like a teenager and sweating like a football player and your critique is mainly about him being in touch with his feminine side (what's your point?) and that he shouldn't explain the songs just "play them". Somebody must have been in a cranky mood before the show even started.

he's paid to critique the shows, he isn't drinking the same Kool Aid as you.

Yes Bream is paid to critique the show but it's rude to tell a performer of Buckingham's caliber to "shut up and play the guitar". It reminds me of what happened to the Dixies a few years ago. I was at the show and I thought that Lindsey set up each the songs appropriately with a short intro. It actually helped to enrich the songs because you get to hear first hand the thinking behind the song. To report it the way Bream did was just laziness on his part. Also to compare some of the songs to REM, New Wave, etc, I guess gives some insight into the reporter's dated references. I'm sorry it wasn't one of your shows, Bream, from the 80's. The show was as near perfect of a show that I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of them over the years. The performances were performed with a great balance of dynamics, nuance, and power. The guys supporting: Heywood, Tuggle, and Reyes really appeared to be on cloud nine and looked in perfectly with Buckingham. I've never left a comment on ST before but I really that this Jon Bream review was way off the mark. And as far "drinking the kool aid", that's a reference that would better left at Jonestown.

MUSIC | Lindsey Buckingham and Caroline Smith: Jubilant celebrations of new music from two generations

Lindsey Buckingham. Photos by Jay Gabler.

Sometimes rock stars seem to regard their job as a chore, or a sacred duty—but the best performances come from people who just seem to love what they do, and consider themselves lucky to be doing it. When the performer has talent, charisma, and restless creativity, those of us offstage are lucky too. Such was the case with both of the performers I saw on Friday night: 23-year-old local singer-songwriter Caroline Smith, and 62-year-old rock legend Lindsey Buckingham. Both have just released strong new albums, and both seemed to be having the times of their respective lives.

Buckingham was first, taking the stage at the Pantages just a few minutes after 8:00. It was my first time seeing Buckingham perform—with or without his band Fleetwood Mac—and while I certainly didn't expect a bad show, I was surprised by the energy, focus, and bounding enthusiasm Buckingham brought to the stage with his three-piece touring band. Like David Byrne of the Talking Heads does, Buckingham worked his old band's big hits into a solo set with inventiveness and intelligence, shedding new light on both bodies of work.

Fleetwood Mac's astounding commercial success—the band still gets together every once in a while for tours during which, as Buckingham put it on Friday, "commerce is robust"—has bought Buckingham the freedom to do whatever the hell he wants, when he wants as a solo artist. What he wants to do right now, it seems, is to keep making new music. His just-released album Seeds We Sow is his third solo album of new music in the past five years, after a drought of 14 years between 1992's gorgeous Out of the Cradle and 2006's unassuming Under the Skin. The new album is a fine collection, though the songs would benefit from having more room to breathe than the hard-driving performances on Friday night allowed.

In a set mixing material from throughout his career and generously dotted with personal reflections that leaned toward the mystic ("That took me right back to Mendocino County," said my Californian friend), Buckingham's virtuoso guitar work was always at the fore. His self-taught fingerpicking style, with a clean and bright tone, creates a distinctive sound that unites his work from his 1970s records with Fleetwood Mac to the present. Buckingham walked along the front edge of the stage as he played, happily mugging for fans and even slapping one a high-five after a typically ripping solo. After many songs he'd stomp his foot, pump his fist, and whoop like a wide receiver who'd just caught a 40-yard touchdown pass. It could have been obnoxious, but Buckingham's enthusiasm was infectious and endearing. "I can't think," he said, "of any place I'd rather be."

People seem to be noticing TWLG on this tour.

I like the way Lindsey handled the "where's Stevie" shout.

I don't want Lindsey to shut up, but it's a good thing that this reviewer didn't see his show more than once. Once he finds out that Lindsey says the same thing every night, he'd have some kind of fit.

Speeches aside, Lindsey is very feminine. That's always been true.
