Hello all,
Been a while since I've posted -- I know -- but am psyched for new LB album and can't wait to see what the future holds. Wondering if anyone here has heard of Animal Collective? I've been listening to them a lot lately, and recently saw their homecoming show in Maryland. They are a phenomenal group of dudes who combined a lot of different disparate sounds together and known for their live shows. They have been heavily compared to the Beach Boys / Pink Floyd and Lindsey. In fact, it's pretty cool. Basically if Brian Wilson and LB started a group today and had total disregard for any commercial success you'd have Animal Collective. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztvr09J7KK4 One of the members, Dave Portner, had this to say about LB...(Noah Lennox, another singer in the group, has been heavily compared to Brian Wilson)... Noah, actually, says a lot of my songs remind him of Lindsey Buckingham...I like Fleetwood Mac a lot, in terms of older bands or pop bands, they're one of the greatest. Tusk, Rumors-- the Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, that whole lineup has definitely been an influence on me. I wrote an e-mail to the dudes when I sent a demo of "No More Runnin" to them that I saw it as this beach-side or lagoon-- we talked about lagoons a lot when we were making the record-- and just how I saw it as this guy sitting next to this really shallow lagoon with frogs and other things going around him. Just to get this really lagoony, laid-back, hazy feeling going with it, and sad, too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyrRuLV1oeY There was also an edition of Tusk out for the 33 1/3 series, a pocket guide for obsessive compulsive music lovers, and there is a chapter where Dave Portner aka Avey Tare talks about "Tusk." I think you can read most of it on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Fleetwood-Macs.../dp/0826429025 Anyway, yea, Animal Collective remind me a lot of LB. (forgot how to post a video directly to thread. need a refresher) [URL="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxhaRgJUMl8[/URL]

Yup, I'm a big fan. I've always said that Sung Tongs has a very strong Tusk vibe. There was a thread on Collected Animals about that 33 1/3 book and a lot of the AC fans on there showed a lot of love for Lindsey. That's why I think he should be marketing to the Indie audience, not the mainstream.

I'm also a fan of Animal Collective and can def. hear the similarities/influence with Lindsey's Tusk and earlier solo stuff. Thanks for posting this.
I, too, think Lindsey would be/is wise to market to an indie audience. He gets a lot of love from music nerds/snobs such as those at The A.V. Club (Tusk is in the A.V. Club Album Hall of Fame, for example). Recently he's discussed his interest in new and/or hip bands like The Arcade Fire, Dirty Projectors, etc. and a few years ago Rilo Kiley was being hailed as "the new Fleetwood Mac." |
