Default Anyone know why Landslide isn't on the 1988 Green Greatest Hits?

This has always struck me as odd - why isn't Landslide on the 1988 Green hits album? It was a single yeah? It just seems weird that such a big song isn't on there. I thought it was maybe a publishing issue but I don't know.

I don't think it was a single until The Dance.

I don't think it was an actual single until The Dance. It's just one of those songs like "Gold Dust Woman" and "The Chain" that was very well known based on live performances and word of mouth.

Yeah Landslide wasn't a single until the Dance version was released. All the songs from '88 GH were singles except for the 2 new songs. However several singles, i.e. "Seven Wonders" were missing along with Gold Dust Woman, The Chain, and Songbird, but those last 3 weren't singles.

Its still a good single disc album. Its the one I found at my local library that got me obsessed with this band and eventually becoming a member of the Ledge. Aren't you guys happy?!?!?!!?

You don't have to answer the part in bold.

It wasn't even a HIT until The Dance, and then suddenly people started covering it as well, most notably The Dixie Chicks. That shot the song to legendary status, though it was already a favorite of a lot of FM fans.

Smashing Pumpkins covered it before The Dance, I believe.

The latter tracklisting was also on the "gold" CD version.

Also, Tori Amos has performed the song in some of her concert perfomances.

Landslide was always an under-the-wire classic among fans, but it wasn't until it was revisited and brought to the light with The Dance. Then it gained huge public prominence, and the live version was issued as a single.

That song has had immense traction since then. I can't imagine the size of royalty checks that stream in. I'm sure it's a landslide of cash.

That's the thing with 'Best Of' and 'Greatest Hits' packages, the record companies always leaves off certain songs that you would think that would be on a disc of hits. That's why they release so many Greatest Hits CD's.

For FM, the best one would be the 1992 'The Box Set'.

I saw an interview of Stevie on youtube promoting her 'Timespace' CD back in 1991 and she told Rhonda Shear that the songs were her faves, like she picked them to be on there but I have a feeling the record company did. All the songs were the singles from her 4 solo albums up to that point. I'd think she'd would of picked some album tracks but atleast we got a box set from her 1998!

Yup - this is the one I have. Should have realised there'd be different US/UK European editions, especially since Tango In The Night was so huge here.

"Landslide" was a FMac concert favorite since '75. But, the song actually gained huge public prominence when the Dixie Chicks covered it. Widened the listening audience by reeling in the Country crowd who probably wouldn't give Fleetwood Mac or Stevie Nicks the time of day prior to that.
