This supposedly tells you how much of a Southern accent you have:

50% Dixie. Barely in Yankeedom.
Some of those, aren't really my fault, though. I eat out a lot, when traveling the South, and there's no such thing as "crayfish ettoufee(sp)", so of course I pronounce it "crawfish". A couple of those, wouldn't normally be how I'd say them. |

A few of my Southernisms:
- "Route" is pronounced like "rout." - "Caught" sounds like "kawt" more often than not. ![]() - I address groups of people with "y'all." - I say "crawfish." Where I come from, "crayfish" will get you some dirty looks, if not a boot upside the head. - A carbonated beverage, regardless of brand, is "coke." I don't know anyone who calls it "tonic." If you asked me for tonic, I'd think you wanted moonshine. |

34% Dixie. Makes total sense.
Carrie says that I have a Buffalo accent. I don't know wtf she's talking about - she's from Ohio, only 4 hours away. ![]() Last edited by skcin; 04-13-2011 at 11:52 AM.. |

Crayfish Etoufee? That's just wrong!(I hate it when spellcheck has no answer - only telling you that you're wrong!) My friend from Texas was telling me, just the other night, how I pretty much have no accent. I love that! |

40% Dixie. You are definitely a Yankee.
![]() I didn't realise people outside Northern Ireland addressed a group of people as "youse". It's not even common in the rest of the UK and Ireland. Nice to know we're not alone ![]() |

44% Dixie and I've lived in Texas and North Carolina my entire life. And I have a significant drawl. Weird. I guess the score reflects the fact my Mother was something of a language and pronunciation nazi.

18% Dixie. Wow! You are a Duke of Yankeedom!
Haha, makes sense. My parents are from Connecticut and I grew up in New Jersey and spent my summers on Cape Cod...parents also retired on the Cape. Last edited by gretchen; 04-13-2011 at 12:21 PM.. |

65% Dixie. Well under the Mason-Dixon Line.
After living in Kentucky for 12 years, I've picked up some of the local pronunciations and vocabulary. For example, I finally had to start saying "Loo-uh-vul" instead of "Lou-e-ville" to avoid getting dirty looks. I still call a carbonated beverage "soda" and refuse to call a shopping cart a "buggy." There are some definite advantages, though. "Y'all" is a great all-purpose word. And the best thing about being in the south is that you can be as mean as you want, so long as you include the "bless his/her/your heart" disclaimer. |

95% Dixie. Is General Lee your grandfather?!
Not surprised, but I don't have a typical Southern accent, I'm a Cajun. |
