So in several of Stevie's songs she talks about being in the wind. In Sweet Girl she says, "And you come running out in the wind with me" in Straight Back she says, "And you will find, while in the wind, something that you lost". There are other songs where she mentions wind, such as Angel (Til I become that part of the wind), Rhiannon (a woman taken by the wind), and Forsaken Love (I've ridden with you within the wind), so here is my question, what is her meaning/significance of "the wind"?

the majestically rewarding, yet costly whirlwind life of a rock and roll singer.
or just being in life - like a feather floating on a wind current - what ever happens to be at that moment in time, in that timespace or space of time. This is of course only in my perspective within my own life. others will see it differently |

She talks about water a lot too. Wind and Water and also, sands.

IBS. I've heard it can cause very significant wind. |

I think that wind refers to life. Life goes by.
Like Rooms on Fire. If not, it's probably a metaphor to something that moves away.

Wind stands for fleeting and urgency, Sands for time, Water for reflective and expansive when it comes to Stevie. That is what I always gathered.

Ha, I'm listening to Stairway to Heaven thinking about Stevie. ...And she is buying a stairway to heaven. So Stevie.

I have a bit of a theory about the wind but I could be wrong...I was doing a University project on Federico Garcia Lorca, the Spanish poet and he wrote about gypsies. I researched Gypsies and they're afraid of both wind and water. Stevie said she was a gypsy, so perhaps that's why she always makes reference to it? Running from the wind and the water...This could just be a theory though...

The wind blows on all alike.
Who will stand? Who will fall?

IIRC back in the day (60's- 70's) when we would take off with our friends we would say we were 'hitting the wind" which meant that we were all going to go out to roam, to be free... sweet freedom...riding the wind, getting high and tuning out perceived oppressive squares.
Not that I would ever participate in deviant or illegal activity.... |
