Question Blue Denim/Docklands

The first time I heard these songs when I bought the CD I could swear I had heard these songs before. I believe I was too young to really remember hearing them on a radio, plus my adopted parents raised me listening to country. So...i'm stumped I know Blue Denim had a video made but was Docklands released as a single?

As far as I know, Docklands was never a single. There is something about the song that reminds me of another song (but I can never figure out the other song's name!). Maybe you heard a song that sounds like it?

When Entertainment Tonight interviewed Stevie in July 1994 as the Street Angel tour was kicking off, they showed concert footage of "Docklands" (as well as "Dreams"). Then, during the end credits, they played the video for "Blue Denim".

If you somehow saw that episode of Entertainment Tonight, you would have seen & heard both "Blue Denim" and "Docklands" at the same time. Maybe?

Docklands sort of reminds me of something else as well, I've yet to figure out what.

Has anybody heard the original Betsy Cook version of Docklands? I have always been curious about it.

Idk if I might have seen the ET with that, I know until I watched School of Rock I had never heard of Stevie Nicks. I remember I liked EO17 from the Soundtrack, but I never payed attention to it til I rewatched it in 2009 with a friend, my boyfriend (now husband), and our friend said Please tell me you know who Stevie Nicks...unfortunately i really didn't! Until I looked her up and the rest is history.

wow...Betsy Cook version is so weird and new agey -- yet it works. And it's MUCH more solid and cohesive and flowing than Stevie's. plus, this chick can get away with singing about "your sister at the laundrymat " without making us cringe.

Thanks so much. I just knew the original couldn't be as bad as the remake, which is my vote for worst song of Stevie's career. It is indeed very interesting.

You know, there's that alternate version of "Unconditional Love" that is very soft and New Agey, like Betsy Cook's "Docklands". I wonder if maybe Stevie had recorded a softer version of "Docklands" that it might have been better received.

I love the Street Angel version, but now that I've heard Betsy's, I wonder what Stevie's would have been like more in that vein.

Well, I went through all my "Docklands", and there's one where the music is very much like the Betsy Cook version. The song sounds great overall, but Stevie's vocals fade in & out, unfortunately. But the music is very nice!

Betsy released hers in 1992, which is the same year Stevie recorded it. I wonder if Stevie heard it and wanted to record it, or if someone suggested she cover it. If Stevie is the one who fell in love with the song, it would make sense why she would want to perform it in concert. I just LOVE how she sings it in the Pittsburgh 1994 video!!! Throwing her hands up in the air as she yells, "And there are ships passing through your night!"

Well Betsy Cook's version isn't too bad but musically to me anyway is does sound very similar to Stevie's version. It maybe a little bit better. I probably don't mind Docklands.....on SA its better than Jane or Just Like A Woman.....or That Made Me Stonger from TISL.....anyway, thanks for sharing....
