After performing just three songs on Friday night (July 23), the Kings of Leon canceled their concert because of unsanitary conditions at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in St. Louis, MO. After the Nashville-based band performed “Taper Jean Girl,” the third song of their set, drummer Nathan tweeted, “So sorry St. Louis. We had to bail, pigeons sh–ting in Jared’s mouth and it was too unsanitary to continue. FULL REFUNDS 4 ALL. SO SORRY. Don’t take it out on Jared, it’s the f–king venue’s fault. You may enjoy being s–t on but we don’t. Sorry for all who traveled many miles.” KoL’s publicist even released the following statement: ——————— PIGEON INFESTATION FORCES KINGS OF LEON OFFSTAGE EARLY IN ST. LOUIS An infestation of pigeons living in the rafters of the Verizon Amphitheatre in St. Louis, MO, forced the Kings of Leon to walk offstage after three songs last night. Even though opening bands The Postelles and The Stills came offstage complaining of getting riddled with large amounts of pigeon excrement, the Kings of Leon decided to carry on regardless. The band felt it would be unfair to the fans to cancel the show at that late moment. “I’m surprised they stayed on for as many songs as they did,” said Vector Management’s Andy Mendelsohn, who reps KoL. “Jared was hit several times during the first two songs. On the third song, when he was hit in the cheek and some of it landed near his mouth, they couldn’t deal any longer. It’s not only disgusting — it’s a toxic health hazard. They really tried to hang in there. We want to apologize to our fans in St. Louis and will come back as soon as we can.” When the band arrived earlier in the day, the venue warned management that there had been a significant pigeon infestation problem with summer shows over the years, but they were doing all they could to fix it. “We couldn’t believe what The Postelles and The Stills looked like after their sets,” said bassist Jared Followill. “We didn’t want to cancel the show, so we went for it. We tried to play [but] it was ridiculous.” Kings of Leon are headed to Chicago tonight to perform at the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre as scheduled. |

Um, if you don't like performing in the elements (birds are a factor in any outdoor event), PLAY INDOORS. These are the same assholes who quit in the middle of a set at a festival in Europe because the fan reaction wasn't up to their hero-worshiping liking.
Remember when KOL used to be good? |

Same thing happened to Fleetwood Mac on the Tusk Tour.
Except that it was Penguins. |

I'm not gonna lie, that was funny. I wonder if they ever canceled an outdoor show in the middle cause they thought it was too windy out (could easily happen at Jones Beach, which is, well, right on the water).
Please elaborate. |

This is why no one listens to KOL.
Also, if he's a bassist, why the refrigerator was his mouth open? |

Maybe if they didn't suck so badly the pigeons wouldn't have **** on them? I mean, I'm sure the birds would be appreciative if they were getting a free concert that was enjoyable.

I did monitors for them, twice, right as their career was exploding. I never got it. They just don't do it, for me anyway.

I saw Nathan tweet this that night and thought for sure he was kidding.
The reports I've read were that the opening bands were literally covered in crap, and that by the time KOL took the stage, their instruments already had been pooped on as well. There's a big difference between a little bird poop and being steadily crapped upon for two hours. I would be PISSED if I had gone to that concert and found out that was the reason why, but at the same time, I can't say the fact that they didn't want to be covered in bird **** really relates to if they or their music is any good. Then again, I think it is, so that's probably the difference. ![]() |

I don't remember the date, but it was in the later stages of the Tusk Tour.
They made a brief stopover in the Antarctica. Let's just say the Penguins made an everlasting impression on John after what happened that night. Of course John did recover after much therapy. But the 5 made sure they never toured the Antarctica again. |

I saw a video clip on Youtube where some news reporter is doing an outdoor story and looks up at the sky with his mouth wide open, and some flying bird just dumped the hugest payload right into his mouth. His reaction was priceless, no wonder videos like that go viral so fast.
Me? I'd be vomiting for days. Seriously, I'd have an ulcer in my esophagus from all the bile wretched up from my guts. |
