Default Do you think Stevie should do a new solo album?

A solo album could be a risk. What's your opinion? I know a lot of fans want new material, but what if it's not an album that's as well crafted as Trouble In Shangri-La? I know most fans don't want another Street Angel.....

While I'd simply love new material, I think she tied up her solo career pretty neatly with TISL. I'd hate to see her do something which doesn't measure up to that. I also fear any new solo material might result in more covers or bad pairings with other artists... and I don't think any of us are interested in seeing any more of that. I think Stevie has some loose ends with the Mac that need to be addressed... but I don't know how possible that is without Christine in the mix. She really was the glue.

yes. i think she should do a solo album. she should do an album with fleetwwod mac first if thats the plan. then she should do her own thing. she should do the rhiannon album. because its something shes always wanted to do. she should just do it, if not for the world...do it for yourself.

I picked, "I want her to, but I'm afraid it will not go over well"

Probably an unpopular opinion ahead but here goes,

I can't pretend that her voice sounds that good anymore most of the time, I saw her live with the Unleashed tour and - Yeh not too bad, but seriously I can't listen to 'Say you will' or 'Soundstage' .. just can't , Bob Dylans granny kinda thing.

And as much as she says she writes all the time, I suspect in reality she's got very little up her sleeve in terms of new songs.

I say all this, I AM a fan, I don't want her turning out crap, either with FM or solo, I'd rather have nothing.

Yes, she should record a new cd. And I think she has started already. I expect new music solo first, and then with Fleetwood Mac.
Though Christine was smart to be 'done', I think Stevie, Lindsey, Mick , John, their management(s) and concert promoters will move heaven and earth to get Christine back for the cd and a 'reunion/farewell tour' to have Fleetwood Mac get back into the stratosphere. Turns out the band does need her, the last two Fleetwood Mac tours just did not have the impact that Fleetwood Mac had with Christine and it would be pointless for there to be another. Another tour without Christine would be a hard sell, with Christine it will be a slam-dunk. I think Christine will be ready to brave the private jets again and do a proper farewell, because she is going to get bigger a deal than she ever dreamed possible, and it will lure her back, and she'll get to do that proper farewell, which she hasn't done. It will appeal to her to reclaim her position as a major, vital ingredient in the success of Fleetwood Mac.
I'm nearly postive Stevie will have a new solo single released at least online by summer, and a full new solo cd by September, with about a 3 month solo tour from September to December.
Next summer a Fleetwood Mac cd with Christine will be out, possibly even by May 1, and a huge summer-into-fall Fleetwood Mac farewell tour, which is how they'll have to present it to Christine. Also, for the 3rd time now, I'll go out on a limb and say the Stevie solo cd (AND the Mac cd) will be on Iovine's label.

It's going to have to be much better-crafted, or perhaps, less-crafted than TISL. Her voice was Pro-tooled to death on that cd, and many here on The Ledge have pointed out that there was a sterile or mechanical feel to her vocals on that cd, especially the Sheryl Crow-produced tracks.
More than a few of us agreed that John Shanks brought out the best in Stevie on that cd, he did a great job producing the tracks that he did.

I'm voting yes, because although it wasn't as great as we were all hoping (thanks Swifty), performing at the Grammys was a bold move for Stevie, who admitted in 1998 that she would really never have a reason to perform there again. If she doesn't do anything this year with FM, then i suspect that she will continue working on an album, which in my opinion, is in many pieces, but is in some stage of progress. All she has to do is sit down, pick up the pieces, and put them together. It's like with TISL, it was an album that was in progress for 7 years, but it just took a looooong time for her to put all the pieces together.

I'm not saying all of TISL was stellar, but it is a solid enough album. Most fans were overall pleased with it. I guess it mostly comes down to thinking that Stevie should put Fleetwood Mac first and that we want Stevie to be respected musically. A not so great solo album could ruin both of those things.

I think, seriously, it's thoughtful and nice of you to be concerned. I don't think that Stevie has to put Fleetwood Mac first, do they put her first? Even if they do, I doubt that Mick or LB consult her about solo projects they work on. SN has been there when they have wanted her, the 'Say You Will' tour went on forever, longer than she initially expected, and the Unleashed Tour was proof of her being there for the band to great commercial gain for all involved. I really think the behind-the-scenes game plan is that the band very much wants to have Christine on their next cd and tour, and that it will happen, in time for summer of 2011 and the cash-c0w reunion tour, and that leaves time for Stevie to do a solo cd. The band knows it will take more than a few months to work out the return of Christine, there would be no way to have it all together by this summer, and record, and have a tour ready to go, so I believe they're shooting for the summer of 2011 for the return of Christine and a major Fleetwood Mac renaissance that they've been unable to make happen without her. They need Christine for their next tour and in the next 16 months they can work it out and have a cd ready for summer 2011, the reunion tour is their ace up their sleeves, and it can't happen by this summer.
As for Stevie not being respected musically by a not-great solo album, there are some people who never have and never will respect her. Their loss. I think her next solo cd is going to be amazing, because she has it in her, and also because it really needs to be. If it turns into a "not great solo album" I don't think it will 'ruin' her chances at being 'respected musically'-- She has, and has had, the public, forever, and even some of her most excellent work, at the height of her career, got slings and arrows from critics or from people who felt like Stevie deserved the criticism. I think she's critic-proof by now, but I agree it's way better to have her held in high esteem than not to be.
I just want the new music. I'd rather have new music than worry about critical response, she's a legend, that can't be taken away from Stevie Nicks!

Definitely would love to see new material from both Stevie, AND the Mac. Doesn't really matter a whole lot which it is- just new songs overall would be a great thing.

If she WERE to record another album, id like to see her do something pretty far out.

Edge of seventeen, and Stand Back, (as well as plenty of her material within FM) broke the mold in their day - they still sound pretty unique now.

Some of her later records however were a bit "just a bunch of songs".

"far out", or don't bother I'd say.

I think she definitely has another record or two in her. However, she should steer clear away from Sheryl Crow, been there done that.

Not really. It's just going to be more of the same. I didn't love TISL. Do you really think a new solo album is going to add something to her legacy? I just think it won't go over very well.

The only way I would want a new solo album is if she got a great producer and really concentrated on the songwriting. Maybe she should exeriment or something.

Hell yeah Stevie SHOULD do a new album. Will she is the real question. But I believe she will. Especially if she's heard any talk about her over the past 24 hours. I can't count how many articles I've seen with the words "legend" and "Stevie Nicks" in the same sentence and it makes me happy that most of the world outside of us stevieatics realize that there is something special about Stevie and that she really is a legend. People keep saying she may be afraid of ending her career on a bad album so she won't do one, but I don't think that's true. The main reason Street Angel was a flop was because Stevie didn't like it. I guarantee you, had Stevie loved that album and promoted the **** out of it, we'd all be singing a different tune about Street Angel, even if it were the same songs. And the reason Stevie wasn't happy with it was because it was recorded during the klonopin years, but released not too long after rehab. And she tried to "fix it" but she couldn't. I think Stevie has a lot of material and she will get in the studio and record some stuff just to see what it sounds like. If she doesn't like it, she won't release it, but I'm sure there will be many tracks she ends up liking and putting on a record. Hell, she even once said she may just release a few songs on iTunes here and there, so who knows? I really think we will get a new Stevie record, but I am positive we will get some new Stevie material in the years and possibly months to come.
