Thumbs up City Threads #1- St. Augustine, FL

Alright folks, for some reason today I had a random hankering to do some research on the city of St. Augustine, in Florida. As the oldest city in America, it appears to be gorgeous. Any of you all visited before?

I've been through St Augustine a couple of times... never stayed. From what I've seen of it, it looks pretty much like the rest of Florida... touristy and lots of suburban sprawl. I'm sure the old downtown part of it is nice... but I've never seen it firsthand.

Never been there but I've heard it's pretty. I've been to the SW Gulf coast side when in Florida so I'm partial to the beauty over there and there are quiet secluded beaches along there too if you know where to look. I love that clear emerald green water around there and the sugar white beaches.

Anyplace equidistant from Jacksonville and Daytona Beach has got to be...... nah, too easy. I'll be merciful.

Whatever, Luke. St. Augustine is very nice. My family used to go there on vacation when I was a kid. The beaches in the area are nice and less touristy around the Flagler area than say Daytona. The city itself has the old Spanish fort and some other kitschy attractions. I always liked it better than Daytona, or places like Clearwater on the Gulf side because it wasn't generally crawling with tourists.

Clearwater is touristy yes, but from what I've heard from my sister who was just there summer before last, she said they have changed that entire barrier island so much from what it used to be and all the newer construction and condos. But yeah any of the more popular beaches in that area are going to be busy in season. But there are quieter beaches all along there as you travel down the coast even a few minutes.

I've spent a day or two there. The Fort is pretty neat. I remember the shopping being decent. Flagler College has a pretty campus. That's pretty much what I remember.
