Question about The Time Album
Alright, so I was just wondering something about this era. When Fleetwood Mac was recording this album, did they know or intend for this to be their last studio album? A few of the songs, and some of the liner notes seem to be that way- but I was just wondering if any of you all knew, since I am a little unfamiliar with this era!
Thanks!

They tried calling you at that point, Ethan, but they were apparently never able to get a firm commitment from you.

Absolutely NOT!! It was "a fresh new beginning" for Fleetwood Mac. That they held up the album to include Christine's material changed the entire feel of the album. It's apparent from the topics of Christine's lyrics that she was "done" with Fleetwood Mac, but the band itself was ready to head down a new path. Which was ultimately aborted by Mick & John after the one album. Had they carried on with that lineup, I think brighter days would've ensued upon release of the next album. But, alas, Mick & John decided to take the easy road and go for "nostalgia" rather than forge new territory.

Just because that's how it turned out (with only Say You Will as an effort to "forge new territory" in 15 years), doesn't mean that's what Mick intended.

lol I edited my post already. But yes, I'm not disagreeing with you, per se, just with attributing it to Mick making a conscious decision.

Well, it was exciting to see these 5 people reconvene. But I would have loved another album or two from the "Behind the Mask" band. "Time" comes close to that, but the phase of the "The Chain" boxed set was a missed opportunity in place of an album that could have saved the band. "Love Shines" and "Paper Doll" are amongst the best songs of the BTM band. And it would have been great to hear more songs of the boys in the band, like "Victim Of Love", in properly recorded versions. Instead, Billy's "Now I Know" was sung by Lola Thomas of the Gotta Band. Her album is a nice one, too, but personally, I think there is not enough Billy on it compared to what could have been.
