Obama's Justice Department is making quick use of Bush's tactic to put himself above the law. Bush made sure that anything related to his demented crimes against humanity and democracy couldn't be challenged in court because he would spout "State Secrets!" and demand that victims be denied justice.
This is what Obama is preserving. And like his solemn promise to exclude lobbyists from jobs in his administration, its a practice he promised to change, but hasn't. Scroll down to where it says "Secrecy Dominates Government Actions" http://www.barackobama.com/issues/ethics/ Maybe if you had been captured by a team of men dressed in black, had your clothes cut off, a suppository forced up your ass, been chained to the floor of an aircraft, and been rendered to a foreign country for torture, you would want your day in court for justice. Obama wouldn't want you to have it. This comes just days after the new administration threatened the U.K. that if its courts didn't conceal evidence of torture done on one of its former residents, that it could retaliate by stopping the sharing of intelligence information. Thereby jeopardizing the safety of the whole country. link. These actions are despicable. If real and thor0ugh change is going to happen, the American people have to hold the new president to his promises. |

I believe the way some of these detainees were treated was atrocious.
However, I also believe that allowing them to appear before a court would be disastrous. These men have civil rights, not rights as American citizens.

Disastrous for who? Even for the people who are evil, we have a history of succesfully convicting and safely imprisoning terrorists. Omar Abdel Rahman, who was involved with the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, is currently in North Carolina.
More likely, it would be disastrous for the people who disregarded international law and brutalized innocent people. But this may be off the subject because the trial the Obama is trying to stop is one in which an American company would be the defendant, not an "enemy combatant". Jeppesen Dataplan, Inc. facilitated the CIA in its transportation of people to foreign countries, with full knowledge that they would be subjected to torture. How do scalpal cuts to the penis sound? Yeah, let's just give them a pass. |

Soon, y'all will realise that he is the biggest mistake since the seventies...
Not that I think Bush was the best president, I might add.

Another week, another crime that Obama is desperately trying to cover up. I don't remember Obama saying during the campaign that he was okay with illegal "Big Brother" type spying. Nevertheless, he's trying to prevent a court from ruling on the illegality of just that.
http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2009...taps.html?_r=3 Torture, domestic spying, the power to detain Americans indefinitely without charges, etc. No abuse of power is too abhorrent for Obama. |
