Seems like Anne Heche (and banjos) are not the only things Steve and Lindsey had in common. Steve recalls his early days as a comedian:
NJ.com http://www.nj.com/entertainment/musi...banjo_pla.html They first crossed paths on the Greenwich Village club scene circa 1974. At the time, Martin wore an arrow through his head as a standup comedian and Trischka had a group called Breakfast Special. They were booked together at a nightspot called the Metro, along with Fleetwood Mac precursor Buckingham Nicks. "Not one person came," Martin deadpans. "I went to the owner and I said, 'You know what, you don't have to pay me. I'll just go.' He said, 'Let's give it another night.' The next night, no one came. He said, 'Okay, go.'" |

Weird how Steve Martin and Fleetwood Mac with Stevie and Lindsey hit around the same time...

How do you know those dates, David?
I had heard this before, and I thought that they performed the same night as Steve Martin, but apparently not. The guy from the band, Tony Trischka, said "[Steve Martin] opened for us in 1974 for the first two nights of a four-night stand. For the second two nights our opener was Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks!" link. I also didn't realize that these New York performances were the ones that got them their first concert review! Billboard, 3/23/1974. Mr. Trischka and Alison Kraus covered "World Turning" in 1993. edited to say: Now I know why I thought they were Steve Martin's opening act. Because that's what he wrote in his book. "My dubious status as a headliner led me to a tiny pie slice of a folk club in Greenwich Village, the Metro. Now I had an opening act. Still no one showed up to see me and a new duo, Lindsey Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks." link. Who's telling the truth? Mystery! Egos jockeying for position!
