Default Stevie's Angry Songs"

Stevie has written A LOT of awsome songs about enchantment, love...but some of us experience the "angry" side of Ms. Nicks through her songs.

"Nothing Ever Changes" When one accuses the other of doing this.... when they are no better. A great fighting song! This song is me and my boyfriend at times. LOL!

"Silver Springs" The "what you could've been to me" song. This one has lots of rage and anger mixed in with a beautiful gentle piano.

"Smile At You" This is my favorite most of all. She is so furious, she has steam comming out of her ears. Everything about this song is phenomenal. "My first mistake was to smile at you...." Damn, that's harsh! I didn't care for the version on "Say You Will". I liked the early version. Damn! I love this song.

I won't name off anymore. I will give all of you a chance to post up your favorites
!

I think the "angry demo" of Smile At You is perfect, as well as All The Beautiful Worlds ... Fall From Grace is always a good song to listen to for me when I'm angry.

for me, Stand Back is an angry song. is like: go away, you weren't there when I needed you so just leave.

I agree Stand Back is one of my favorites. I think it is angry. "Stand in a line." To me, IMO, means get in line like everyone else. You want from me the same as strangers who, "love" me.

The other is, Fall from Grace. To me, this song illustrates what lengths we would all go to have, "THAT FEELING." The feeling of being loved, the feeling of dissappointment, and the feelings of protection. "There is so much going on you could easily wake up with a stranger..." "One night in a world of my pain and you will finally understand."

To me, the guy does NOT want the same thing as all the other hangers on in her. He wants more of her and he refuses to stand in line, to be one of many. At one point she shunned him and said look, this my life. It's hectic. I'm always on the go. If you want me, you're going to have to "get in line" but then later she regretted that decision, said do not walk away my friend, like a willow I can bend. Hey, I can compromise. I can make some changes for you.

But he didn't return. So, in retrospect she remembers that one man who did not fall, did not want her fame or to share part of her spotlight. He asked her for her love that was all. When he did, she wasn't ready. It was more than she could do. She was too busy to give him what he wanted at that time and lived to see the folly in that decision. That's why she sometimes sings "it's NOT all right" to be standing in the line.

Stevie talks about POTU as being an angry song. Now, I like the attitude in EFO. It's not anger, so much as indignant, boastful, taunting, but also self-deluding, teeming with false bravado. So, while I'd love to see the "attitude" part of it on stage, when I listen to the album version, I hear the second part of it, as the narrator of the song tells us that all is not what it seems.

Those are alot of great choices too but I'd also include Long Way To Go from Mirror in there too. Its a great angry song as well.....when I was mad(or am mad) its a great song to sing to.........Smile At You angry version is much better than the SYW version totally. I also like the other choices too.....

I agree "Long Way To Go" is one of my favorite kiss off songs....I think it might be even more vicious than Smile at You.
I too sing this song when I feel that certain attitude towards someone or a situation...It always makes me feel better!!!'
HAVE FUN TELL THE WORLD!!##! WOW!

Another great attitute song that she wrote but never recorded ( or at least it hasn't surfaced) is "You Like Me (dont you), recorded by the Williams Brothers in 1987 on their self titled debut CD (they were the songwriters who wrote Some Become Strangers).
That song has some killer lyrics and a is great rock song....I would kill to hear Stevie sing this.....
"Ohhhh your rage I see through, you like me dont you.....you cant help the feeling ...you lies I see through, you like me dont you."
"Wrote me a letter of hate or of love, well I can do without it!....You stand there and accuse me and you want to know who is it. Well, you outta know who is it!"

ohhh yeesss!!! it has a great harmonic change before going "it's a real long way to go". I always thought this song was about Joe Walsh and when he asked her to go to his house after they had split up and she played ROL for him.

by the way, another great angry song IMO is No Spoken Word. if you tell me one more time, baby take it easy, well you won't see me EVER AGAIN!!! Great. I also love it when she goes: ohhhhaaahhh come around, tonight indicent baby well, you fill the room with the wind and the rain and the waattteeerrr.
For a long time I thought she was saying: tonight in pieces...

Totally agree with that one. I love the delivery of "Well I play too hard, still I'm not tough enough". I do that one a bit in my car when no one's watching. Perhaps more frustration than anger there though.

It's one of my favorite demos. The chorus is haunting. Glad to find someone else who likes it.

OHHH YEAHHH! Love that one too!

I've been listening to the angr song Nothing Ever Changes all the morning. How do you interpretate that song? If it hadn't been released before "go insane" I would think NEC is a response of it, specially for the lines:

Would you take a look at your life and your lovers (CAH?)
Nothing ever changes

(she's a lot like you)

I love it when she says :

I can turn all your music on
I can make you feel alive

I can turn your music on, but I can turn you on too so you'll feel alive. she synthesizes both things perfectly!

I am gone but I'm never gone from you
It was just the first time

Hey Lindsey, don't blame me! don't try to put the weight of your own madness on my shoulders! I already carry mine!

Stevie has said that "Planets of the Universe" contain some of her cruelest/meanest lyrics ever.
