I just wanted to start a thread to discuss a few ideas which have been occurring to me lately...
When I find myself listening to artists other than Stevie and Fleetwood Mac, I sometimes notice similarities. These are things which are either simply coincidental, or which may have actually inspired Stevie's songwriting. For example, one of my favorite artists to listen to is Jimi Hendrix. Stevie has spoken of the great impact he had on her, and these similarities may be obvious, but I will go ahead and detail the connection: ~ Jimi and Stevie both have songs titled "Angel" ~ Jimi has a song titled "Little Wing"; Stevie sings "You will fly like some little wing" in "Straight Back" ~ Both have songs titled "Freedom"' ~ Jimi's song "Night Bird Flying" ; Stevie's song "Nightbird" ~ Jimi had an album called "Band of Gypsies", and a song "Gypsy Eyes" ; "Stevie's song "Gypsy" ~ Jimi's song "Purple Haze" ; Stevie's purple haze reference in "Bombay Sapphires" ~ Jimi's song "Burning of the Midnight Lamp" ; Stevie's song "Blue Lamp" ~ Overall other-worldly mysterious presence (ex. voodoo chile) ~ Stevie has covered "Wild Thing" ~ Both sometimes perform in bandanas ![]() Van Morisson's canon of legendary rock also has a few similarities with Stevie's... Although his style of music is very different from hers, the topics of his songs are similar. For example, Van Morrison contains countless references to gypsies in his lyrics... ~ In his song "Into the Mystic," he sings "I want to rock your gypsy soul" ~ His song "Caravan" contains the lyrics "Gyspy Robin" ~ Van Morrison's song "These Dreams of You" ; Stevie's "Dreams" ~ VM's song "Just Like Greta" on his album "Magic Time" ; Stevie's songs "Greta" and "Garbo" Though he may not have directly influenced Stevie Nicks, I enjoy listening to songs with familiar themes, by other artists One last item which other Stevie fans might enjoy is the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. The main character's name is Bella. Stevie fans would likely enjoy the themes of forbidden love and mystery/magic. I find the novels darkly humorous, suspenseful, and romantic. Anyone... thoughts on Hendrix, Van Morrison, Twilight, or other artists with similarities to our Gyspy Queen? Last edited by SmileAtYou; 09-08-2008 at 04:48 PM.. Reason: added the "Greta" similarity |

^^^ Stephanie Meyer is also from Arizona, and makes afew references in her books.
Funny you bring that up. My sister said one time in reference to those books "bet Stevie Nicks would enjoy this story."

Prince's Fury always reminds me of Lindsey and Stevie, because of the idea of lovers in a band together some and not least because of the king without a queen line, combined with the "he's so afraid" lyric.
Also, the thorn thing reminds me of something you don't touch because it hurts too much. And the line about trying to reach him on the phone reminds me of Stevie saying Lindsey wouldn't even take her calls. You Must Have Heard It On The News This Morning Congratulations! New Star Is Born Sun to His Shadow, Rose to A Thorn There Ain't No Fury Like A Woman Scorned Y'all Must Have Dug It, When You Did Your Thang It's Like A Song, Everybody Wanna Sing When The Music's Over, Your Ears Ring With A Voice That's Saying, 'queen Got No King" He Got A Message Saying, You Tried to Reach Him On The 'phone He Didn't Wanna Answer Cuz He's So Afraid You'd Probably Tell Him Just to Leave You Alone I Bet You Heard He Got Another Band They're Makin' Money, They're Makin' Plans You Feel Left Out, But You Need to Understand Word On The Street - He's Still Your Man Look Out, Here Comes Your Rainy Day But You Think You Got A Good Reason to Say Always In Your Heart, Come What May, Even Though His Might Get Broken Who's The Guilty One When There Ain't No Judge Or Jury? Shadow to The Sun, Lets Do The One Hell Ain't Got No Fury Will This Song Have A Happy Ending? Will His Heart Need A-mending? What's The Name? Only She Knows Only The Woman Knows, Only She Knows Two Sides to Every Story One Man's Gloom, Another Man's Glory Sun to His Shadow, Rose to A Thorn Ain't No Fury Like A Woman Scorned Ain't No Fury Like A Woman Scorned No Fury Like A Woman Scorned |

Well, Stevie Nicks is one of the 'Un-Official' creators of the genre of music known as "Beauty & the Beast" metal - Which is equal parts symphonic and equal parts melodic hard rock (ALWAYS with Female lead vocals and an accompanying male vocalist) with lyrics VERY similar to what Stevie may write.
Think Stevie's "Beauty & the Beast" played a progressive metal band backing her with strong symphonic musical parts and ya have "Beauty & the Beast" metal. Examples of this genre: Nightwish Epica After Forever Xandria Edenbridge Blackmore's Night (More 'renassiance' than metal, but falling under the same genre umbrella) and the American act Evanescence (Considered "Goth Rock", but still falls under the umbrella of "B&BM") Of course, almost all these bands have great looking female singers who apparently heisted Stevie's wardrobe when she wasnt looking ![]()
