I just saw this on the Bob Welch website. Bob makes the following announcement. It sounds great! I'll be "there" for sure.

Cool! Thanks for the info, I hope a techie here can save the stream as an mpeg so we can burn it to a DVD and watch it on our standalone DVD players?

The Tennessean
http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs....ESS01/80714038 Nashville-based Gibson Guitar said it will launch on Wednesday virtual world Gibson Island on online community Second Life, allowing consumers to experience virtual Gibson guitars for free. Gibson said it will become the first major music manufacturer to have its own island on Second Life. The island will feature theatres with musical performances by celebrity musicians, radio broadcasts of Gibson artists and a chance to customize virtual Gibson guitars, among other options. On Wednesday, former Fleetwood Mac vocalist and guitarist Bob Welch will perform in a concert with other Second Life musicians on Gibson Island. |

What a great idea - to bring Gibson Guitars in-world and set up a few stages for performances! Bob Welch is playing to a sim filled with 110 avatars, and the crowd is doing it’s thing in true SL style…offering feedback and chatting with the performers like you just can’t do in RL. Some nice Fleetwood Mac anecdotes are a-flowing…the guys clearly are having a great time.
Click on link below for photo From the left: Bobwelch Magic (Bob Welch) Team Gibson’s Von Johin and Team Gibson’s Cypress Rosewood (who is an impressive inworld ambient performer in his own right!). Fun show! http://secondarts.wordpress.com/2008...gibson-island/ |

Viv...Thanks for posting that link...I went over to Von Johins house yesterday (7/16/) about 4pm....We all set up ( me, Von, and Cypress Rose) soundchecked...then had pizza until Cypress's set began. I played maracas and guiro on Von Johins set, and then when I went on.......it's all a blur, but it was very fun, relaxed......like playing in a club. Von has a huge upstairs studio, and he was projecting the 2nd life action onto a flat screen , so we could see comments etc.. We all predict that, maybe even less than 10 years from now, it'll be full blown 3d holographic real-time interactive performances...Quantum computers running in parallel will have the muscle to do this. All in all, it was great fun ! Von Johin and I go back a long way...he set up the 1st "online interactive interview and midi guitar lesson" with me in '92, on "Compuserve" (remember them ? ;-) using a 386 processor and a 2400 baud modem ! ;-) We've come a long way since then ... Best, Bob Welch

Dear Bob, Let me just say that it is a great honor on my part to post something that brings you great joy. How sweet of you to thank me in a public way. I wish I could find more articles about you on the internet because if I did, I certainly would be thrilled to post them here. I think it's totally effin' cool that you are a member of The Ledge!
In all honesty where your music is concerned I only know your hit songs. Sentimental Lady, Ebony Eyes and Hypnotized. All fantastic songs. I had never heard of Fleetwood Mac until 1975 but here in Massachusetts and Connecticut your song Hypnotized got a lot of heavy radio airplay between 1976 and 1982 on our album rock radio stations, as well as the other two songs I mentioned. The performance you did at Cal Jam 2 with Stevie has been a part of my video collection for many, many years. How I would love to know what that must've felt like to look out at an audience of 250,000 people. God certainly has blessed you. To many people around the globe you are a household name. You certainly made your mark in Rock-n-Roll history and in the great history of Fleetwood Mac. There are over 1,000 members on The Ledge and although many of them are simply lurkers and few of them are commentators I just want you to know that many a fan of Fleetwood Mac appreciate you and your musical legacy and many a fan of this Band has expressed the desire for you to perform with them again, especially on their final farewell tour. Lots of love and respect, VivFox(Mark) |

Re: Old School Fleetwood Mac Recommendations

Begin with Then Play On, which bridges Fleetwood Mac's transition from straight-ahead blues to more pop and rock-orientated efforts. If you like what you hear then try Bare Trees, which is an early 1970s post-Peter Green album that spotlights Christine McVie and newcomer Bob Welch. You might also try Pious Bird of Good Omen, which showcases the original band playing great covers of Elmore James, Robert Johnson, and others, and features the original version of "Black Magic Woman." It also includes "Albatross," which IMO is completely different from anything else they did. It's a gorgeous tune, and according to legend served as the inspiration for Lennon's ode to Peter Green, "Sun King." Finally, you might want to check out Live at the BBC. It contains both covers and originals of blues tunes, but also includes contemporary (i.e., ca. 1967-1970) rock and pop songs, lively but sloppy covers of 1950s rockabilly and doo-wop that will probably drive some crazy, and Jeremy Spencer's dead-on imitations of Elvis and Buddy. Great fun if you're in the mood and approach it the right way (not too seriously). The album concludes with "Man of the World," which gives a harrowing description of Peter Green's mental condition but is a terrific song nonetheless. http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/...ml#post3405725 |
